NHTSA Campaign: 16V560000 SAFETY RECALL
3.1K Vehicles Affected
Recall Date: Jul 27, 2016
Safety Issue:

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Jay Feather, Jay Flight, Jay Flight SLX, Eagle, White Hawk, and Octane travel trailers manufactured January 5, 2016, to July 18, 2016, equipped with a Sway Command anti-sway system. When connected to certain tow vehicles that have an integrated brake controller, and after the anti-sway system has applied the trailer brakes in response to a sway event, the trailer brakes may no longer function to slow or stop the trailer.

Potential Risk:
A loss of trailer brakes may lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle and cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
FREE Recall Solution:
Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will remove the Sway Command system from the affected travel trailers, free of charge. The recall began on August 3, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901308.

Safety Issue:

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016 Eagle Half Ton fifth wheels and Eagle travel trailers manufactured April 8, 2015, to February 19, 2016. In the affected trailers, the positive cable (B+) connecting the battery box to the roof-mounted solar panel preparation package may not be protected by a circuit breaker.

Potential Risk:
Without circuit protection, the wire may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.
FREE Recall Solution:
Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will tie the unprotected circuit into a 30amp circuit breaker, free of charge. The recall began on March 18, 2016. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267. Jayco's number for this recall is 9901286.

Safety Issue:

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2016 Eagle Half Ton (HT) fifth wheel trailers manufactured May 19, 2015, to October 8, 2015. The affected vehicles do not have warning labels on the towing hitch to identify the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) for towing, maximum tongue weight and towing vehicle braking information.

Potential Risk:
A vehicle operator could unknowingly overload the trailer, which may result in tire or axle failure and increase the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES

Potential Consequences:

THE WIRING FOR THE ELECTRIC BRAKES WERE ROUTED OVER AND WRAPPED AROUND THE SPRINGS. THE WIRES WERE WRAPPED TIGHT ENOUGH THAT THERE WAS NO SLACK IN THE WIRING. THIS CONDITION WOULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO THE WIRES SHORTING OUT CAUSING A FAILURE IN THE TRAILER'S BRAKING SYSTEM AND POSSIBLY TOW VEHICLE'S BRAKE CONTROLLER. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO A FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE BUT I'M NOT CONFIDENT THEY UNDERSTAND THE SAFETY IMPLICATIONS. I FOUND THIS CONDITION WHILE INSPECTING THE TRAILER FOR OUR FIRST TRIP AND HAD THE WIRING REROUTED. I DO BELIEVE THAT THIS CONDITION EXISTS ON A LOT OF JAYCO'S PRODUCTS.
