concerns regarding vehicle seatbelts.*mr the design of the vehicle's seat belts are inadequate for short or small people. the shoulder belt cuts across the neck instead of the shoulder which is a concern for the consumer.*mr

i have a concern on my new 2004 isuzu ascesder seat belts. my wife is 5'4" tall, and the seat belt both driver and passagers slides up around her neck and right underarm. can not keep the seat belts is place. no adjustment for seat belts for height. it is attached to the back of the seats. the concern is if we had to make a hard stop, then the seat belt would cause injury for sure. presently she holds the seat belt away from her neck when driving the suv, and it is her car. something needs to be done about this problem before someone gets hurt. please let us know what to do. incident date i note as today, but problem was noted just after we purchased the suv. *ak

while the vehicle was parked, liquid was leaking from underneath the vehicle. the check engine light flashed on and off on the dashboard. the consumer noticed that the vehicle was running rough. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and the mechanic determined that the head gasket needed to be replaced. the consumer informed the mechanic that the head gasket was replaced three times and the problem recurred. *ak

dt: was driving at about midnight when suddenly the vehicle started shaking. there was a loud thump. pulled over ,and tire had exploded. had towed to home. called aaa to come out and change tire and put on spare tire. there was no evidence of running over or striking an object. when went to service dealer for tires, dealer said tire should not have deteriorated. dealer suggested consumer take picture of this unique damage to the tire. no problems since this has been replaced but there was concerned because the remaining tires were continential brand tires ,and the vehicle still shook, even afteralancing tires and alignment.*ak

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK

i own a 2004 isuzu ascender. there has been a host of problems that i have had to deal with in the minimal 10 months that i have owned the vehicle. two of the problems have yet to receive any type of fix from the local isuzu service center. the first problem was the belt screaming every day. i took the vehicle in three times for the belt and they finally fixed it. the second problem is all four door windows. debris consistently makes its way into the door and any time i roll down or roll up my windows my windows get severly scratched. i addressed this issue with the service center and they said there is nothing they can do about it and that it is not a product malfunction. i have never had a vehicle do this and nor do i know anyone that has had a similar issue. lastly and most importantly, my family and i were on a routine drive back from new hampshire. the conditions were clear and the roads were of typical new england repair. a vehicle pulled out in front of ours and in reaction i applied heavy, not excessive, pressure to the break pedal. the petal started to click, most likely the abs, but nothing kicked in to stop my vehicle. when i say nothing, it was like i never stepped on the break at all. i had to swerve in to the other lane of traffic to avoid a collision. the next day i took the vehicle in to be looked at and the service department sent myself and a mechanic out on a road test in hopes to duplicate the malfunction. i did not have any real luck with duplicating the malfunction but i know it exists. it has happened to my wife three times and myself once. the service department said there is nothing they can do right now and to wait for a gm certified mechanic to have the opportunity to look at my vehicle. the breaks have gone unchecked since the latest incident and my confidence in the safety of the vehicle wavers more and more every day.

SEAT BELTS

the safety belts on the vehicle for the driver and front passenger do not work properly. when you put the seat belts on they ride on the next of the person wearing them. they also do not fit properly across the chest of the person wearing them. they can not be adjusted to accommodate people who are taller or shorter. when i put the seat belt on it applies pressure to my neck it can not be adjusted to ride over my hips instead of my stomach. *jb

instrument panel began working intermittently. took in for check. dealer repaired. left dealer and instrument panel failed again within 15 minutes. returned to dealer and had to wait for (8) days for replacement dash module. car was unsafe and undrivable as no information (speed, gear location, etc.) was available to driver. this vehicle is a gm product and is the same as trailblazer, envoy, etc. i have been told by envoy owners that they have experienced the same problem,trailblazers also. dealer service rep stated to me that gm knows there is a problem with the instrument modules. this complaint form does not allow for the identification of the manufacturer of this vehicle. it is manufactured by general motors. i had to select isuzu manufacturing due to your error in programming drop downs correctly. isuzu has no manufacturing facilities in north america. please update your information. if this vehicle is not classified as a gm product it will reduce the failure incidence of the gm instrument panels. *nm

TIRES:TREAD/BELT

the tire failure occurred while driving eastbound i-10 in the right lane, approx. 40 miles west of phoenix az. the local time was approx. 3:30 pm. outside temp. was 102 f according to the vehicle's thermometer. the vehicle was normally loaded, & was inspected prior to departing on the trip - including tire pressure & tread within specifications. my wife was driving at 75 miles per hour when we both sensed an abnormal vibration from the rear of the vehicle. the sensation was similar to driving over heavily grooved concrete. my wife asked what i thought of it, & i asked her to change the vehicle's speed to see if the sound changed. she decelerated around 5-10 mph, then was accelerating again when we heard a loud explosion from the left rear of the vehicle. the entire suv was jolted as if we had been struck from behind, followed by a loud flapping/thumping sound. i felt the vehicle yaw to the left, then fishtail right - left - and right again. this yaw oscillation was accompanied by a coupled rolling motion. my wife did not apply steering wheel or brake inputs, & removed her foot from the gas. the vehicle oscillations damped & then we coasted off onto the right shoulder. upon inspection, the aft left tires tread separated from the tire body. the sidewall split in multiple locations. the tire tread was broken into two sections circumferentially and wrapped around the axle, brake, & suspension assemblies. this required substantial force to unwrap & remove. additionally, the lower aft portion of the affected wheel well was bent forward toward the axle into the space normally occupied by the tire. finally, the vehicle's rear fender was cracked in the area behind the left rear tire. the damaged tire was removed & the wheel well metal was bent out of the way on site so the spare could be installed. the appraisal & repair process is ongoing. the tire was under oem warranty, & the manufacturer has been notified to expect a claim.

the speedometer in my 2004 isuzu ascender which is a gm product is giving false readings and shows higher and/or slower speeds than the correct speed. i am aware that this is a nationwide complaint among other gm product owners. the dealerships are refusing to fix it, citing "out of warranty" excuses and saying that it is not a safety issue. it is in fact, a safety issue and should be fixed at no cost to the consumer.

just to let you know. gmc envoy, chevrolet trailblazer, buick rainier, oldsmobile bravada, saab 9-7x, isuzu ascender they are all exactly the same vehicle that has just been rebadged. i personally drive a 2004 isuzu ascender, and i can't get gm , chevy, or isuzu to fix it without charging me $475. my tachometer always reads wrong. my speedometer sometimes reads wrong and my gas gauge does not give me the correct reading. this can be real dangerous. the speedometer issue is more wide spread than you guys think.

i own a 2004 isuzu ascender and several months ago the instrument panel began working erratically, and now, not at all. specifically the tachometer and speedometer are non-functioning, and the voltmeter and oil pressure gauge give false readings. i have contacted the dealer and am told there is no recall and the warranty is now up. i have contacted isuzu of america and told there is no recall and will have to take the vehicle to the dealership. because this involves the speedometer, i feel this is a safety issue. additionally a co-worker owns a 2004 gmc envoy which is a sister vehicle, and she is also having the same problems.

tl* the contact owns a 2004 isuzu ascender. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked when the contact noticed a burning smell and smoke being emitted from inside the vehicle. the contact stated that the smoke came from the power switch for the front driver side door. the contact removed the cover for the door and power switch and discovered a burned power switch. before the failure occurred, there had been a delay when the contact attempted to use the power switch to open or close the window. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repair shop for inspection or repair. the contact was concerned that the defective component would be replaced with a similar defective replacement component. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure however no further assistance was provided. the approximate current and failure mileage was 138,000.

i have owned this car for three years and in that time heres the issues, rpm, oil, tempature, speedomter gauges have quit. the car virbrates extememly hard when sitting still. if the ac is on, its virbrating harder, the front vents have quit working and only the defrosters and rear vents work. the car likes to die at red lights. i see the oil and tempature gauge as a safety issue. there will be no warning if the car is too hot and the oil pressure is to high.the engine light stays on no matter what we fix. it says the car had a cylinder one missfire. can be caused by a bad spark plug, a bad coil or vacuum leak. replaced the first two and had it inspected by a mechanic for the second. nothing. the cold to hot setting on the heat, only one side of the light works, but if i slide the knob up and down fast, the light comes on. sign of a short.

continuous gas smell in and around automobile when starting the engine. engine light came on in jan 2013 although the smell has been present for many years. took auto to repair shop and discovered that their was a sizeable crack at the opening of the gas tank. around 1,500 dollars later a new gas tank, new fuel pump assembly, i find it hard to believe there is no recall on this part from gm, especially since searching the internet and discovering how many have reported this same exact issue and the scary thought that the car could have blown up and any time. a class action suit needs to be filed against gm.

i have a 2004 isuzu ascender. my check engine light came on so i took it to a dealer to have it checked out. i was told that the car had a fuel thank inlet fracture. a service bulletin was released but no recall. i bought this car brand new, it will cost me $2178.33 +tax to have it repaired.after doing some research i have found other owners with the same problem. i think that something should b done about this. i contacted an authorized dealer and my car is not in the recall models. i think that this a manufacture' problem and it should be taken care of beofre something serious happens

there has been ungoing electrical issues since buying this vehicle new. the headlights have stopped working and there is an intermittent problem with the lights and the internal chime. sometimes the lights don't come on or the chimes can not be heard and then it is working properly again. the engine in the vehicle ihad to be orepalced just before it went to 60000 miles so, it has an 2005 engine. this engine has a hard revv when shifting gears. there are gas fumes coming into the cabin. the vehicle has been taken to the mechanic several times and they have not been able to find the leak. i don't live in the salt belt area. i live in northern fl and this is not the only place that the vehicle has been, but it has not been where there are salted roads like the nort east and midatlantic. request your assistance.

speedometer showing different speed than actual. car will show it is going 50 mph and will be actually going 60mph. car will show going 45mph and will be going around 56mph. took to mechanic and he said was probably stepper motor. estimated cost to fix is $365.00. 2nd problem i've had with dash!!

abs and brake warning lights and warning chime comes on every time we drive the car. the chime will go off after about 15 sec. of chiming. lights and warning on the "readout" stay on. our mechanic said its the abs module and gm doesn't have any. they have been on backorder for at least 8 months. he said it's a problem with "like" gm vehicles also. this is a safety hazard. don't know to take it seriously or not. don't know if our brakes are going to work. we need this fixed and we can't even get a part. help!!

my car has smelled of gas and i have been told there is a fracture in my fuel tank inlet check valve. this has been a problem with the 7 passenger ascender but they are doing nothing with the 5 passenger ascender though it is the exact same part that is faulty. i have contacted isuzu and am taking into their service center but i want this complaint on record in case something should happen such as my car exploding. the fumes inside the car are so noxious they are making me sick and i have to drive with the windows down.
