honda gl1800 gold wing Problems

honda gl1800 gold wing 2007 Complaints

STEERING

i have a 2007 honda goldwing with heated seats and handle grips. the heat element sometimes does not turn on, and sometimes it turns off after being switched on. i am told by the dealer that alot of owners complain about this, but honda says it is designed this way, which makes no sense, for sometimes it does not even turn it self on when activated. last year the replaced on of the heated hand grips, but still i have the same problem and honda does not want to address it.

POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION

last year i complained about the transmission popping out of gear, when i took it in, i was told there was nothing wrong with it, and they could not look into the case unless it went out. this year it started to pop out of gear even more, and in july it popped out of gear again and took the transmission and drive shaft. it was repaired under warranty, but after the repairs i was told that honda had other complaints that were similar or doing the same thing, but they were not highlighting advertising it. in other words, they did nothing until it went out completely, and that occurred while i was driving it, it could have cause an accident with loss of power.

POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION

on a 2007 honda goldwing motorcycle the transmission will randomly shift from 5th gear down into 4th. this causes a hazard to the rider and passenger as the shift causes a change in the position of the rider and corridor throwing the balance off.

SERVICE BRAKES

my 2007 honda gl1800 (w/abs) has exhibited a braking problem since the summer of 2010. when applying the rear brake alone, a shuddering occurs that feels like i am driving over rumble strips. this is quite disconcerting because it is unsafe, yet honda politely refuses to fix it, claiming that it is not a problem as long as the rider uses the front and rear brakes together. it is true that applying the front brake lever will prevent or stop this rumbling, but applying both brakes is not always the best, safest way to apply braking force. compounding the troubleshooting of the problem is that it only occurs when ambient temperatures are above 90 degrees f. it appears to be a feedback loop issue since front and rear brakes are linked systems. based on the number of entries on rider forums, this is not a unique situation, but it does not affect all goldwing?s so there must be a solution. brakes should not shake the motorcycle, and a manufacturer should not be dictating brake operation to solve a design issue. requiring the front brake to be applied to stop this vibration is simply unsafe.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

there was a recall on the 2007 honda goldwing 1800cc for the rear brake caliber. i was involved in a crash and i do believe that the rear caliber did lock up when both front and rear brake was applied. after i purchased another 2007 goldwing i was told they had a recall on that year bike for the rear caliber. the big problem is i never got a recall notice and i blame the honda corporation for not forwarding me the recall. even though the recall came out after my bike crash, that is why recalls happen, i was never mailed a copy of the recall. i suffered 100% disability do to the crash and left my job because i was unable to perform said job. if i had got a recall on the bike like i should have, i would have never let the insurance company have it due to it being a total loss and would have sued the honda corporation. i believe that the honda corporation should still be held liable for not mailing the recall notice. if i was not told about the recall by a friend, my other 2007 goldwing would have never got checked. when i put my vin in the system for the recall, it shows it is still open and was part of the recall. i have tried several attorney's but no one will assist because the bike is gone. what ever happened to the liability issue of a company being held accountable for sending out recalls for the safety of its patrons? now i am out of work. on ssn disability hard to survive. i was traveling sb on i-75 when i entered onto some wet roads and noticed it was going to rain. i started to slow and change lanes from the center lane to the right lane so i could get onto the shoulder. during the changing of the lanes after i already had my breaks applied for over 200 feet during this process, it felt like the rear locked up and went out from under me. honda should be held liable. i have complained to honda and continue to complain with no satisfaction. thank you.
