SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:HEAD RESTRAINT

headrest is not adjustable backwards or forwards, only up and down. it is curved forwards at an extreme angle, and when you sit in it, causes you to sit in a c position, all hunched over. at first, not too bad. after awhile, it is uncomfortable, and causes a lot of neck strain, leading to headaches and neck pain. please fix, honda! please send out replacement headrests that are adjustable! simple easy, quick fix, minimal impact. temporarily, i have resorted to taking them out, and putting them in backwards, and they feel so much better!! trust me, it looks awkward, but feels awesome! *ln updated 1/6/2013 *js

SEATS

got the car brand new from the dealership after a brief test drive. after the second time driving the car for a short trip, i began feeling severe pain in my neck/upper back area and felt the same discomfort every time i drove the car thereafter. the seat base is too deep not providing enough support to my spine and also the seat back is pushing my body forward causing me to round my neck and shoulders forward. in addition, my head cannot even make contact with the head rest unless i tilt the head back which is not a neutral position. i've tried multiple adjustments including buying expensive seat supports but nothing seems to help; the seat just seems to be poorly designed. i am at the point where i am willing to return/trade-in the vehicle for another at a loss because i do not want to sacrifice my health. prior to this, i drove a 2000 honda accord and this issue never occurred. i hope you can investigate so honda can take action to resolve.

VISIBILITY

it was a cold day with wind chilled down to single digits. i took something out from the trunk, got into my car and closed the door. then i notice that the rear passenger side window glass has been broken into tiny pieces. the whole glass was gone, with half landed inside the car and half outside. the car was parked at the time and there was no one around and nothing that i know of had hit the car door window. the glass just spontaneously shattered.

SEATS

purchased a new 2014 honda accord ex from the dealership. after a couple of weeks, i've experienced moderate to severe pain in my neck, upper back area and shoulders. i've felt discomfort even on my daily work commute of 15 minutes one way. the pain is more severe after driving for 40 min. i see my chiropractor more often now. i noticed the headrest is curved forward at an extreme angle, pushing my head forward, putting stress on my neck. my upper back and shoulders feels strained - regardless of the height of the headrest. the headrest was the cause of my pain. i am 4'11 and sit up straight. i've tried multiple seat adjustment and bought neck supports but nothing has helped. i resorted to putting my headrest backwards to provide relief. i've mentioned this to a salesperson and the parts dept. at the dealership. both of them said honda does not have any replacement and the headrest was designed to comply with federal regulations. prior to this, i drove a 99 honda accord ex and this issue never occurred. i've tried putting the headrest from my 99 accord into the 2014 but it won't fit due to different center-to-center post measurements. even the backseat headrests from the 2014 will not fit in the driver?s seat. i had pictures taken of me sitting in my 99 accord and the 2014 accord. in the ?99 accord, my neck, upper back and shoulder rest comfortably against the seat and headrest. in the 2014, there is a gap between my neck, upper back and shoulder from the seat with the upper portion of my head pushed forward from the headrest. please investigate so honda can take action to provide a replacement or make it a recall issue. this needs to be corrected for health, comfort and safety's sake!

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

2014 honda accord. consumer writes in regards to vehicle sudden acceleration. *smd as the consumer was trying to park the vehicle, with her foot on the brake, the vehicle suddenly accelerated out of control, and took off on its own, even though her foot was on the brake, as she pulled into a parking space. the vehicle careened at a high speed around the parking lot, jumped several curbs, and side swiped three other cars, before coming to a stop when three tires blew out and the front passenger side wheel turned perpendicular to direction of motion. the axle broke, so the vehicle ended up traveling on the rim sides with the engine still running. *jb

VISIBILITY/WIPER

second day i had the vehicle i was driving at night and had no issues on the highway but turning onto a rural highway with no lights i found that the visibility thru the windshield was relegated to the bottom third. the rest of the windshield appeared dark and almost impossible to see thru. i contacted the dealer and returned the vehicle and was told that what i encountered was normal because honda uses a look down headlight system, in fact the service manager said his wife only drove with the brites on in dark areas because she could not see thru the windshield. i said this was unacceptable and the service manager said he could try to mitigate the effects by raising the headlight adjustment, but he warned me that at some point the headlights might blind oncoming traffic. he raised the level of the lights and i then inspected the results later that night. i found that i had almost half of the windshield clear and the rest was shaded very dark. i believe that this is a safety defect in this vehicle and i have asked the dealer to make repairs. so far there seems to be no repair available. i drive a lot on these back roads and i hope i will not have an accident because of this defect.

head-rest problem -> neck pain. after driving a few miles, i notice that no matter which position i selected the pilot's seat , my head is always pushed forward making a neck pain. i tried to adjusted the head-rest with the different positions i could make my neck feel better in all i still can't make neck pain go away every time i drive it. it's really painful my head is always leaning forward no matter how i adjust the head-rest. this is the same problem i had for ford-f150 truck, the head rest are too big thus making always the head lean forward and causing me a next problem. in both vehicle, it's the same. i can't drive comfortable!!!! without starting to feel the neck pain right and feel my head is being pushed forward. please have honda and other manufactures review and add a head-rest adjustment feature to the head-rest so that we can push back the head-rest a little backwards to allow the neck/head rest comfortable.

POWER TRAIN

very annoying rumbling/vibration that occurs in the 1700-2000 rpm range when the variable cylinder management engages. the severe imbalance of running on only 3 cylinders transmits a distracting rumbling/roaring vibration into the cockpit of the car. when i originally test drove the car, i did so in stop-in-go traffic and also briefly on the interstate, and did not detect this phenomenon until i had purchased the vehicle. after experiencing this vibration, i wrote a detailed letter to the president of american honda regarding my unhappiness. a colleague of his, named [xxx], contacted me but offered no help. she acknowledged receiving my letter and said that it would go on file. i asked if it were possible to disengage the variable management system, but [xxx] said that honda does not recommend that. i asked if american honda would allow me to swap by new 2014 honda accord ex-l v6 for a 4-cylinder ex-l, but [xxx] said that would have to be between my dealer and me. i will never purchase a honda v6 again as long as it has any form of variable cylinder management (vcm). i feel that it is important to go on record regarding this matter. i have been a loyal honda owner for the last 30+ years and have owned 5 new honda vehicles over that period of time. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

i purchased new 2014 honda accord on 1/27/14 with 34 miles. on 1/31/14 with only 117 miles, i was attempting to park, perhaps 2 mph when all of the sudden, the car lunged forward on it's own with great force. i was appx 5 feet away from stopping when suddenly the airbag deployed, the car lunged, hit the concrete stop, jumped over and stopped only by steel cables.this occurred on the 4th floor (spiral parking) . if the cable system were not in place, i would have ended up landing on the top of the cars parked on the 3rd floor. this entire incident occurred in 2 seconds or less. i was completely straight in line having turned right from the central aisle, about 5 feet from the concrete block, traveling no more than 2 mph. with no warning, the car lunged forward, airbag deployed and sent the car into the cables. i received a burn to my right hand from the airbag and was completely and utterly in shock. i have an exemplary driving history for 44 years and have never had anything so traumatizing occur ever. as i stated, this occurred so quickly as i was only 1-2 seconds from turning the engine off. in reporting this accident to honda, they recommended having it towed to seidner's with whom they partner with. they completed the repairs on 3/1/14.the damage was extensive, $11,600 to the front end, hood, etc. the car was at the collision center until 3/1/14. because of the claim i opened with honda, they inspected the car 3/10/14, however only made a hand-written note that they test drove it for 48 miles, noting "no defects in mechanical inspection, no repairs recommended." i am utterly terrified that this could occur again. please, can you direct me as to what i can do to ensure that this never recurs.

POWER TRAIN

hesitation (unexpected acceleration) occurs intermittently at low speed. when the car is at a low speed and more power is needed and the accelerator is pressed there is no response initially; accelerator is then pressed more and the car then accelerates much more than was expected, resulting in a jerky, on/off type action. i believe this could cause an accident either when trying to merge into traffic or when trying to accelerate gently and having the car accelerate more than expected (in a parking lot or heavy slow traffic etc).

first time drove at night 4/20/2014. headlights are absolutely terrible, unsafe and cannot possibly meet us safety standards. they shine, maybe 50 feet on a flat surface. much less when going downhill. more when going uphill. very, very difficult to see street signs, such as bend in road, stop ahead, etc., parked cars, pedestrians and animals. there is actually a defined horizontal line about half way to 2/3 of the way down the windshield with the top part of the windshield being anywhere from completely black to dimly lit depending on ambient lighting.this is makes it very difficult and very unsafe to drive at night. took car back to dealer on 4/22/2014. they informed us headlights were aimed correctly. the service manager at the dealership also said he has had other complaints, but did not know if honda was working on a solution.

car is pulling to the left at moderate to high speeds and it's driving me crazy because i travel 90% highway and it's not a safe situation. the car is a 2014 accord ex-l 4 with only 1160 miles. i'm beginning to suspect the goodyear tires that came with it as i drove the v6 version which comes with michelins and i didn't experience any pulling. i also drove another new ex-l 4 cyl with goodyear tires and it pulled just like mine does. it's not pulling because of the crown in the road. i've been driving cars for 20 years and never experienced anything like this. been to shop under warranty three times. 1) adjusted tire pressure 2) full alignment 3) fresh set of goodyear fuel max tires. i don't think these are good tires but they are oem.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

i purchased a new honda accord ex, 4 door sedan on may 26, 2014. on june 1, 2014, i was at red traffic light (zero mile speed) and car was in drive position. i tried to adjust the temperature, but by mistake i pressed the start engine switch button instead of controlling the temperature switch, which is just next to engine switch. surprisingly the result was that my car turned off. on june 2, 2014, i contacted honda directly and the representative informed me that even if you are at street or highway speed and if you press the start switch for 2 seconds, the car engine will turn off at whatever the speed of car is, resulting in your car speed change, if you press the power switch and it will turn off your engine to 0 mph in a matter of a second. i am very scared about this safety feature and now have many concerns, as listed below: 1.why is the start switch so close to the air-condition control switch? 2.the engine should not be able to turn off while the car is in driving mode. 3.since all of the controls are by right hand, the engine switch should be installed on the left hand side, so it cannot turn off, even by mistake, and no one in the car can reach this switch except the driver. i hope you understand that a very important safety feature is needed please reply to me at your convenience, thank you.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

the exterior projector headlights on the 2014 honda accord ex-l are very unsafe as you can not see above the break line. there isn't any ambiance lighting from the front of the car when driving. this makes it very difficult to see any pedestrians, bicyclists, animals or signage that is above or on the sides of that line. i brought it into the dealership and they confirmed the headlights are aimed to their specifications. i brought in video that shows the issue and the service manager agreed that there is a problem but honda doesn't have a solution. she noticed it on her own car. also after talking to other 2014 honda owners they are having the same problem as i am. i just don't know how many would complain. i find this a safety issue which might cause accidents or even deaths and thought it vital to report it. i sent the complaint directly to honda and they have no plans on fixing it. i feel caught as there isn't anything we as consumers can do to fix it on a brand new car. please look into this issue because i would hate to read that someone died because of this issue.

the exterior projector headlights on the 2014 honda accord ex-l are very unsafe as you can not see above the break line. there isn't any ambiance lighting from the front of the car when driving. this makes it very difficult to see any pedestrians, bicyclists, animals or signage that is above or on the sides of that line. i brought it into the dealership and they confirmed the headlights are aimed to their specifications. i brought in video that shows the issue and the service manager agreed that there is a problem but honda doesn't have a solution. she noticed it on her own car. also after talking to other 2014 honda owners they are having the same problem as i am. i just don't know how many would complain. i find this a safety issue which might cause accidents or even deaths and thought it vital to report it. i sent the complaint directly to honda and they have no plans on fixing it. i feel caught as there isn't anything we as consumers can do to fix it on a brand new car. please look into this issue because i would hate to read that someone died because of this issue.

STEERING

i purchased this car new. and after a few weeks, i realized that the steering was pulling the car to the left, especially on the highway where it would take left curves in the road unassisted by me. i brought it back to the dealer 4 times, they gave it a few alignments, and since the problem still exists, they deny that there is any problem at all. the car is definitely a lemon, and i am wondering if other 2014 honda accord owners are experiencing a similiar problem with the steering. this is a dangerous condition as i must be constantly vigilant or the car will go off the road to the left. i am trying to get some justice through the ny lemon law because honda ha taken my money and delivered to me a defective, dangerous car.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

the car is experiencing a very hesitant acceleration upon initial acceleration to the point of almost stopping. this has continued now with just over 1,000 miles. called the local honda dealer and was told by a maintenance representative that this problem has been reported to them, but there is no fix known. the problem is definitely a safety hazard as you can not depend on the car accelerating when needed. it does not have reliable acceleration from a stop. i was told by the maintenance representative that the car is a fly-by- wire and has no throttle cable any longer, but is controlled by the computer. he assured me there was no fix known nor did honda corp inform them of a problem or a fix. i feel very unsafe with this condition and have no feeling of reliability with the car's acceleration.

honda accord ex-l 2014 will shut-off and coast to a stop if the "start push button" is pressed while driving. the car should be in park before pressing the start button has any affect !! while driving with the automatic transmission in drive, i placed my hand on my right knee and accidentally hit the "start push button" and to my surprise the car shut-off and coasted to a stop. i could not restart until i put the transmission in park.. dangerous !! i was leaving my house with the automatic transmission in drive when my hand going to my right knee hit the start button, the car stopped!. fortunately i was going less than 5mph so no accident. i spoke to the dealer and was told, that's the way it is - just like if you remove your keys while driving. however you can not remove your keys unless the car is in park and the key is turned from run.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

came out one morning to go to work and found all four car windows and sunroof slightly opened. the w j nodes and sunroof opened by themselves. unfortunately, there was a severe thunderstorm that night which rain entered the car. it's a 2014 honda accord. i googled the problem and found out that this has been happening going back 7 years that people windows and sunroof were opened without them doing so. it's been occurring in honda and acura models. they try to say that we must have done it by the remote; but i don't use the remote, i use the car handle to open the door and the black button to lock and secure the door. i believe this is a manufacturer issue and not a consumer issue.

POWER TRAIN

i had just left the dealership after they cleared a "fcw system failed" message and i entered the interstate. while traveling in the lane adjacent to the far left at a speed of approximately 68 mph, the car violently jerked, the fcw system failed message returned, all emergency icons were illuminated on the dash, and my car lost acceleration in traffic. despite repeated attempts to accelerate the vehicle, the engine had no response and was sitting at idle while i decelerated in the middle of traffic. the vehicle was returned to the dealership where it underwent 3 days of service for what was determined to be a failed accelerator position sensor. the day after picking the car up from the service department, the vehicle was being driven on the highway at approximately 65 mph. the car, without symptoms or warning, again violently jerked, lost acceleration, and displayed the same system failed message. the car has been at the dealership for 8 days and the ecu and main wiring harness are being replaced.

so far, no accident, but this trend to disable access to the navigation system while the car is in motion, even by a passenger is actually more dangerous than previously. it's highly distracting trying to use voice navigation and it always does not work very well. the alternative is to use a separate hand held gps or smart phone, which can be potentially more dangerous and distracting. has there ever been a controlled study that demonstrates disabling navigation access while driving is safer than the alternative? having used factory navigation systems for over 12 years, i strongly believe that disabling navigation systems while the vehicle is in motion is more dangerous, and represents a safety hazard if alternative routes are required in an emergency. for example, what if you are lost in a bad neighborhood, or someone is following you? you don't dare pull over and stop. i think this issue needs further attention.

just purchased my 2014 honda accord lx. i live in a rural area with many small hills. while driving home i noticed the low beam headlights seem to be out of focus, not illuminating objects on the side of the road within 25 feet from the vehicle, nor can you see street signs within that distance. worse, when going up and down the small hills the roadway visibility changes rapidly depending on the angle of the car, often dropping the visibility to a scary 10-50 feet at 55 mph. yes, you can use you high beams to help "if conditions permit". nevertheless, when this happens it is very unnerving and undoubtedly unsafe! i did notify honda america and open a case #n012014-08-2801669, however, i was informed that nothing could be done, as that was the design of the headlights. this is very unsafe and needs to be addressed quickly!!!!
