Defect Description:

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

This RV, purchased new, is uncontrollable in any cross wind. The wheelbase, suspension, and steering system do not work properly together. It takes an extreme amount of steering correction if there is any force of wind, whether from nature, small to large vehicles passing, grooves in road, pot holes, etc. For an untrained driver, this could be life threatening as maintaining the vehicle in the lane in which it is traveling is near impossible without constant correction. Even as an experienced driver, maintaining the vehicle is extremely difficult. We bought and returned the vehicle within 690 miles of ownership, due to the fact that the dealer insisted we returned it to their store, which was 250 miles from our home. Other mileage on the vehicle came from driving it to nearest Freightliner service center for assessment of chassis and engine belt replacement. We lost over $75,000 in two weeks of ownership, even though we purchased it on Friday night and asked to return it the following Monday, due to the erratic dangerous handling of the RV. I am a Class A Commercial Driver Liscensed in state of WI and hold a medical card for Interstate travel. I have several years of experience driving large profile, heavy vehicles over the road. I have held and maintained this license since 1999.
