Defect Description:
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
This safety issue and product failure is similar (possibly identical) to NHTSA Recall No. 22V-862, Genuine Scooter Co. 2022 Model Year Buddy Kick 125 model. "During operation, loss of motor power to the scooter can occur without warning. This could result in a loss of motive power, which can increase the risk of an accident." April, 2022: While operating the vehicle on dry, flat, paved roads between 20-45mph, with air temperatures between 40-65 degrees Fahrenheit, the engine light will illuminate (and stay on) without warning, and the vehicle accelerator fails to maintain speed or increase speed. Vehicle must come to a complete stop. Once at a complete stop, the engine light turns off and the vehicle can resume operation, until, once again, the engine light illuminates (and stay on) without warning, and the vehicle accelerator fails to maintain speed or increase speed. This happened on 3 separate rides, each ride was less than 8 miles. On last of the 3 rides, vehicle completely powered off during operation. This occurred several times between July-September, 2022 as well (mileage was 0-1,200). I was informed at the time that it could happen due to not using the vehicle every week. Genuine Scooter Co.'s partner business, Scooterworks Chicago (aka 'dealer'), 1st recommended to check the 2 15amp fuses in the battery compartment. The fuses were secure. The 2nd recommendation based on experiences with other 2022 Model Year Urbano 200 model scooters, was that the fuel system, specifically the fuel pump, may require replacement. Appointment has been made for their further examination, repair and replacement, as appropriate. My concern is that if this is similar to NHTSA Recall No. 22V-862, then the part itself may be produced outside of specifications. It was stated for the referenced recall "that the manufacturing tolerances on the fuel pump had changed and were too close causing the pump impeller to contact the pump body with subsequent failure of the fuel pump".
