Defect Description:
EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Potential Consequences:
The headlights have excessive moisture on the inside. Genesis replaced them once a year ago but now they have moisture on the inside lens so bad that you can't see the LED bulbs. This is a known issue with the GV60 and even though the car is under warranty Genesis will not cover this under warranty, they say it's normal! The moisture is changing the way the headlights light up the road and this moisture issue is a major safety concern. This needs to be fixed, no headlight beam should ever be obstructed by material inside the headlight assembly. Thank You [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
I leased a 2023 Genesis GV60, which was misrepresented as new but had multiple safety recalls, including ICCU battery failure, AWD/powertrain malfunction, and seatbelt defects. From the start, the seatbelts didn’t secure properly, and the car failed NY state inspection, causing me to lose a job that required a safe vehicle. Despite six visits to different service centers in 3 months, no actual repairs were completed. Mechanics admitted they didn’t understand the battery defect. The recalls later disappeared from the system without resolution. This is highly unsafe and deceptive. Genesis refused accountability, claiming they don’t control dealership practices—yet they allowed a dealer to fraudulently lease a car with open recalls. They also filed a false insurance claim under my name, inflating my premium and causing me over $33,000 in damages. I visited five other luxury dealers and confirmed that other brands do not allow demo or recall vehicles to be sold this way. Genesis’ refusal to fix or buy back the car and their attempt to cover up recall issues reveals a systemic failure in recall enforcement and corporate responsibility. I urge NHTSA to investigate.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
The vehicle's instrument panel, behind steering wheel displaying things like speed and warning signs, periodically goes blank at start up for between 30 seconds and 15 minutes. There are lots of reports of this problem on sites like Redit and Genesis Forum, however, Genesis has not issued a recall for even a service bulletin. This apparently common problem is a safety hazard as the driver does not have access to critical safety information, including the vehicle's speed, for a period of time. Because this problem is periodic, it is often difficult to verify at the dealership as it does not produce fault codes. This leaves consumers in a bind as the problem persists since the dealership and manufacturer will not always address.

Defect Description:
POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
I leased a Genesis GV60 in July 2023. The car was under a stop sale order and had to be repaired before it was leased to me because of a known issue with the rear axle. The dealership performed the fix to the vehicle and then proceeded to lease me the vehicle. In January 2025 while driving approximately 40 MPH on a paved flat road, I experienced a sudden thud and loss of power. When I applied pressure to the accelerator a loud angry noise came from the back of the vehicle. Smoke and a burning smell came from the back of the vehicle. There were electrical issues with the car being initial unresponsive to attempts to put the car in park, unlock doors and turn off the vehicle. We left the vehicle on the side of the road. We were in a remote location in a very cold climate with no cell phone signal at dusk. We flagged down a passing-by driver for transport to a safe location where we could call Genesis Emergency Roadside assistance. The car was towed to an authorized Genesis dealership and the rear axle was replaced at no cost to me. Repair staff at the dealership confirmed that based on their inspection there was no indication that the car had experienced any type of impact / injury that could explain the fractured rear axle. In March 2025, again I was driving on a paved flat road going approximately 30 MPH. As I was approaching a stop sign, I again experienced what felt like a sudden thud, and heard a high pitched whine. When I tried to accelerate off the stop sign and cross traffic I again experienced a lack of power with an angry noise and the smell of smoke. The car was towed to the original dealership where the vehicle was purchased and it was confirmed that the rear axle had broken again just two months after having been replaced. I am unwilling to drive the vehicle again our of concern for my safety and that of others.

POWER TRAIN
Potential Consequences:
On 3/5/2025 I was driving my car and accelerating to 45 miles per hour when the Stop vehicle and check power supply warning on my car showed on the dash followed by a loud and starting audible tone. I pulled over to check the car and it still worked well. I then went home and tried to charge the vehicle off of our level 2 charger and the vehicle would not start to charge. I brought the car to the dealer the next day after charging the 12 volt battery overnight. I charged the 12 volt battery because the car was no longer charging it as the charging system was not working. The dealer then diagnosed that the ICCU and main fuse were broken and needed replacement. These were the problem parts that previous NHTSA recalls were issued and completed on this vehicle to address this failure. My car still failed with around 6,750 miles driven. I want to let the NHTSA know that the failures of this critical part are still happening despite the manufacturer's recalls being completed in a timely manner.

The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact then started to hear an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The dealer was contacted and scheduled a second appointment. The dealer repaired the driver's side seat belt; however, the failure persisted with the front passenger's seat belt, and the all-wheel drive. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100.

Upon startup, the dashboard cluster that displays safety information and the speedometer did not power on until several minutes had passed. This happens randomly. This console includes the safety warning information and the speedometer and is not the infotainment screen (which worked as it should). This has not been reported to the dealership yet, though the issue is known and discussed on several owner forums.

Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
This car is fully electric. Upon start up in cold weather and for up to about 5 miles thereafter, the instrument panel remains black. This eliminates any displayed driving information including warnings, speedometer, driving mode and other items such as brake regeneration, etc. The distance traveled before the panel eventually energizes appears to be increasing. All other vehicle functions continue to operate. A saving grace for my car is that it displays the speed in the heads-up-display but all other information is unavailable. The dealer has determined that the instrument panel will be replaced under warranty. They state that the book price for the panel is in excess of $9,000! The car has approximately 23K mi at this time (1/13/2025)

Ever since the update that came to my car last October (update 24.11.1), the instrument cluster screen of my car does not turn on initially upon starting the car around half the time I start it. It will turn on eventually, varying in time anywhere from 1-10 minutes later. My local dealership has yet been able to fix it and tell me they have no idea why this would be happening and over the many attempts to fix this and many service appointments they now say that they need to replace the entire display but that none of available and not sure when they will be. Reading through the owners forums, I am not alone with this issue [XXX] ) Obviously, the car isn't safe to drive this way even though I continue to make my monthly payments to Genesis, so hoping someone can help me. (I've included two photos for reference...one where you can see the instrument cluster information screen off and then about 5 minutes later when it turned on.) Defect Description:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Potential Consequences:
When starting the car on cold mornings--parked outside, under a carport--the instrument cluster is blank. It stays blank for two to seven or so minutes, whether or not the car is being driven. This only happens on the cold days, and didn't happen last winter. When the display comes on, it doesn't register the miles that were driven while it was blank. Using the pre-warm climate function before staring the vehicle--so, warming up the car--will cause the instrument cluster to work even on cold days, but that shouldn't need a workaround.
