Defect Description:

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL

Potential Consequences:

The contact owns a 2020 Luxe Fifth Wheel Towable RV. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the rear passenger's side tire experienced a blowout. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road and inspected the RV. The contact noticed that the failure had caused wires to detach underneath the RV the ship underneath was damaged. The contact replaced the tire with a spare tire. The contact was able to continue towing the RV. The contact, an independent mechanic, diagnosed that the brake rotors of the trailer brake assembly, were generating excessive heat that caused the tire to blow out. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the axle manufacturer, Morryde Independent Suspension, who had provided the trailer brake axle assembly to the RV manufacturer. The axle manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the trailer brake assembly manufacturer Kodiak. The RV manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The contact repaired the RV himself. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000. The VIN was unavailable. The contact stated the trailer brake caliper mounting plate failed.
