while pulling into a garage, the accelerator pedal became stuck, and the vehicle accelerated through the garage wall into the kitchen. the consumers daughter had to shift the vehicle into park to stop it. the consumers wife sustained injuries, and was transported to a local hospital. dealer and manufacturer were notified.*ak *jb

under normal driving conditions the digital dispay for audio system, digital display for odometer and gauge backlight went black, resulting in reduced ability to see gauges and inability to see odometer and audio system display. if this occurred at night, there would be zero ability to determine driving speed and other conditions of the vehicle as displayed on the gauges. checked fuse box located under vehicle hood and found that multiple fuses were not seated properly. additional owner of same model and year experienced same problem. checked new stock at dealer lot and found same problem.*ak

while driving a normal highway speeds the hood will shake. on winding days the hood will vibrate and twist violently. the hood latch and hinges are tight. hood is made of thin aluminum and is to flimsy to tolerate the wind load. with time i believe hinges will loosen and the problem will worsen. *nm

when making turns left or right there is a very loud click from the front end. this is a constant occurrence, usually when the vehicle is not on level ground but when there is a slope such as in parking structures. i have taken it to the dealer regarding this problem , but they have not fixed it yet, and the parts they originally ordered they now say will not fix the problem. in addition, there seems to be a less audible click coming form under the front part of the car, usually when the heater or the air conditioning is on, which no one seems to pinpoint. this is not constant but is an off and on occurrence. lastly, i have a problem sometimes when fueling as the pump turns off right after i begin fueling as if the tank is full when it is not. i solve this by changing the pump or gas station but it happens too often for it not to be mentioned.*ak

unable to fill fuel tank. pump kicks off after a few seconds and will not fill tank. dealer replaced gas tank per ford tech line. problem was gone for about 1 month now having trouble again at certain gas stations. dealer called ford tech line again and was told that i would have to use gas stations that worked for filling gas tank and also was told the enginers at ford were no longer working on this issue. there is another person in the area with the same car having the same problem. if you would like his information please contact me.

clutch is jumpy starting off in 1st gear...i have to let it out almost all the way to get it to fully engage. owned the car since dec, 7800 miles....all highway..feel like i have no power. .dealer told me to test it in the pking lot by revving it and letting the clutch out...even w/ twc off, barely a chirp!!!

dt: the latch that holds the convertible top onto windshield came loose and unlatched while driving 75 mph. the convertible top went backward, no debris came off, but papers flew out of car. dealer reported that the convertible latch must not have not have been latched. no repair yet, dealer has the vehicle. very windy outside, heading into a head wind when incident occurred. vehicle h had no other problems, and there was no warning.*ak

problems with my 2005 mustang gt taken possesion of jan. 2005: 1) 500 shaker system, skipped cds constantly....replaced 2) fog light failed to operate...repaired 3) noise in front end while turning at slow speeds...repaired 4) heat/ac vents are not in sync..air does not exit proper vent selected...not fixed as of yet...heat is felt from under dash even when off 5) after car warms to driving temperature, there is a thumping noise heard in engine, very prominent in interior...dealer is working on problem, even had a ford engineer listen to it...still unsolved... 6) "god, what next?"

on more than one occasion (approx. 3 total), when attempting to refuel the gas tank, the handle will release as if the tank was full after less than a gallon has been added. this has happened at multiple gas stations, including one i visit often. when this happens, it is necessary to hold the fueling handle because it will constantly release if the handle lock is used.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

problen 1: when slowing to a stop, maybe 5 mph or so, then pressing on the gas pedal to accelerate, the engine rpm's increase as if the transmission is in neutral, then jumps into gear causing a sudden jerk forward. the problem has been reported and confirmed by ford dealership. problem 2: started vehicle, with foot on brake put in reverse and heard a strange noise and blue smoke outside passenger window. the right rear tire was "burning rubber" pulled shift leaver back to nuetral and engine rpm normal. possibly related to the problem above or i could ahave had my foor on brake and gas pedal at the same time but can not that easily.

purchased the car on june 1, 2005 and on three occasions have been unable to fill the gas tank more than half way. i have even left the gas station and gone back later in the day to finish filling the tank, but was unable to do so, as the pump continued to shut off as if the tank was already full.

cannot fill up gas tank. once the tank is half full, the pump stops. this has happened twice - first time on 6/12/2005 & 6/22/2005. we purchased the 2005 mustang on 6/1/05 and could only fill it up once without the pump stopping. the car was looked at by a ford dealership and a new gas tank has been ordered. will follow-up in the next few weeks to see if this will correct the problem.

dt: consumer complained about fuel system problem. there were 2 unit systems. when going from stop to start the car hesitated, and it took at least 2 or 3 seconds before it went back to normal. dealer had seen this car, and ordered apart for the replacement of fuel system. they said the parts would be in four to five days. dealer told consumer to drive the car normally. but hesitation recurred.

i was driving my 2005 ford mustang gt coupe northbound on a 35-mph city street. i was preparing to turn into a business driveway. while attempting to brake into the turn the (abs) light lit up on the dash console as well as ¿�check trac control¿� on the heads up display. in that very instant the brakes became ¿�light and mushy¿� causing the vehicle to lose traction while turning. the end result of this was that the vehicle struck the curb inside the driveway entrance. the driver¿�s front tire hit the curb with a solid impact. this caused serious damage to the rim, tire, front axle, and probably some other underlying damage that is yet to be determined. fortunately no one was injured, but if this had happened on the highway some one may have been killed. i do not if this is an isolated incident but i thought i would make some one aware just in case.

dt: contact states. the pinion gear (which the consumer says is part of the rear end) is bad on his 2005 convertible ford mustang diagnosed by the dealer. the manufacturer says there is no fix for this. the dealer says they cannot get the parts because ford will not relinquish the parts. the dealer and the manufacturer tells him there is an indefinite backorder on the parts. the vehicle has 4500 miles on it. he also cannot put the convertible top up or down on the vehicle. the motor on the top is blown up and the dealer and the manufacturer do not have a new one and refuse to give him the old pump back. they have told him there is no fix for the convertible top. he can only put one half gallon of gas in the car at a time because the gas pump clicks on/off telling him the gas tank is full. the dealer has diagnosed that the gas tank is bad and has ordered a new gas tank that will be there on 7-29-05 which is covered by the warranty. other was selected as the component for the pinion gear because the consumer was not sure where the pinion gear was located . *nm

i purchased a 2005 mustang on june 17, 2005. on july 6, 2005, while in traffic i noticed in stop and go traffic the car was accelerating when it should have been decelerating. i actually smelled rubber burning from the tires that were still moving although the break was pressed. when i began to accelerate, the car acted as if it was in neutral and would not move for approximately 4 to 5 seconds, but the engine reveled up high then the car jerked and accelerated on its own. on july 8, 2005 while stopping at a stop sign the car accelerated when it should have decelerated causing the tires to continue to turn, once again i smelled the rubber burning from the tire. on june 11, 2005, car accelerated when stopping. i took the car in to automax ford, explained what was happening, took repair office attendant for a test drive, problem did not happen during the test drive. attendant said if it happens again bring it in. on july 12, 2005, accelerated at stop sign, when tried to accelerate car would not move, then kicked into gear after 4 to 5 seconds accelerated high and sped off. july 13, 2005, accelerated when stoped, july 14, 2005, when stopped and started car would not move when accelerated. called automax ford spoke with same repair attendant, voiced my concern of being afraid to drive the car. i have kids and this car is not safe. asked attendant for a loaner car becasue i have no other transportation and he said he will call me when a loaner car is available. pleaded with him not to forget about me and how afraid i was to drive the car. i haven't made the first payment on this car and it is causing problems for me.

several trips have been made to the dealership for repairs. the gas tank was replaced because it wouldn't allow the pump to fill up the tank. problem still happens occasionally. the fuel gauge stopped working and the service department could not repair it. the gauge will not always show the correct amount of fuel. it seems to take several miles and several starts to correctly display the amount of fuel. i never really know how much i should trust its accuracy. the fule gauge was replaced and it did not work any better. ford engineers asked that i use 3 tanks of premium gasoline with techron in order to clean the sensor. this did not work. now ford is working on the problem and still has no solution. the shaker 500 cd player was replaced when the cd's wouldn't play and would not allow the cd's to be removed. bushings were replaced when clicking noise was heard while turning.

dt: the consumer has 2005 ford mustang. when the consumer was driving south from grass valley during the day, he could not see the instrument panel. the consumer believed that it was due to the instrument panel being located too far into the dashboard. the consumer said that at night he could see the instrument panel fine. if the vehicle passed into some type of shade during the day the instrument panel would become visible. the consumer says that he just got off of highway state route 49 and noticed that when traveling with the sun behind or in front, he could not see the instrument panel. anytime that the vehicle was shaded the instruments could not be seen easily. this was a safety problem due to not being able to see what speed the vehicle was traveling at. when changing speed zones, not being able to see what speed vehicle was traveling at caused the issue. *ak *sc

the tunnel down the center of the car gets extremely hot at the front of the tunnel near the pedals. when the bare metal of the tunnel is touched it is hot enough to induce a burn. dealer contacted ford and told me it was "normal". as the plastics and carpeting touching the tunnel age, i am concerned this may present a fire hazard. after reviewing posts on two mustang forums, others apparently have experienced this problem as well. the car is a gt v8 with a manual 5-speed transmission. *jb

initial problems: 1. pin strip on driver side was peeling off 2. a/c vent fell out of console 3. convertible top got stuck in the down position. stopped by closest dealer because i was on vacation and we pulled the top back up. brought it to a local dealer for repairs and they said it was not covered under warranty because the entire convertible top frame was twisted. they stated this was because i most likely had driven while the top was half way up/down. after several weeks ford engineers decided to cover the repairs for the top. took the dealer five weeks to get all parts and replace the top. 4. gas tank replaced because gas pumps would constantly cut off while refueling. 5. a/c makes popping noise every once in while. current issues: 1. noise in front end while turning at slow speeds 2. after car warms to driving temperature, there is a thumping noise heard in engine, very prominent in interior 3. driver side exterior door handle sticks in the out position 4. convertible top making a thud noise when raising and lowering top 5. exhaust is making a popping noise when if engine is revved right after starting the car 6. slight vibration/rattling noise coming from console while car idles 7. a/c making popping noise every once in while. *jb

dt: purchased vehicle on april 27, 2005 , and the engine blew out on august 12, 2005. there was a ticking noise, stopped vehicle, and checked the oil, put oil in it, kept ticking, and the engine blew out. the safety lights on the dashboard did not come on. contacted dealer, they hooked vehicle to the machine. they said water got into the air intake valve. called another ford dealer to get second opinion , they said that was impossible and it was hydro locked. it should be covered under warranty. *ak

dt: while backing car into garage vehicle was in reverse. consumer had to put it in drive to move forward a bit with foot on the brake at the time. with slight brake pressure and ease the engine revved and lunged forward and struck the right side on driver's side mirror into the side the garage when the vehicle accelerated forward. consumer was able to get control of vehicle by slamming on the brakes and putting ignition into park which stopped the acceleration. had towed to a ford dealer, who did a diagnostics check which reported no codes or failures. the car was in dealer 2 days with no repairs, no problems were found. would not fix mirror because they could not duplicate a problem. this was the first and only incident.*ak

i purchased my 2005 ford mustang on may 28, 2005 and about a week after i started noticing the paint had chips in it, then i started looking the car over with a magnifying glass (almost) and noticed that the tint that had been placed in florida where the car was purchased from dealer to dealer was bubbling in places and since it wasn't done by ford nothing could be done, then i noticed when i came to a stop and pulled it out of gear the rpms would run extremely high then fall low and back up again, and it continues to do this, about 1 1/2 months ago i started noticing a rattling in the front of the car, not sure what that is yet, we will see what the dealership says about this all tomorrow. *jb

i was driving approximately 75-80 mph on i-10 westbound in katy, tx on a sunny day, appx 90 degrees. i noticed the back end of the car sway from side to side. i slowed to approximately 60 mph and then heard a pop and the car started swaying almost uncontrollably and bouncing. having experienced blowouts before, i knew that i had blown a tire. i pulled into the breakdown lane and noted the driver's side tire was completely shredded around the entire circumference of the tire at the sidewall. i had less than 200 miles on a brand new 2005 roush mustang when this occurred. if i had not had high-speed driving training, i probably would have lost control of the car and crashed into the concrete barrier. i returned to the dealer where i purchased the vehicle and demanded a replacement at no charge. the dealer replaced the tire. i don't know whether the dealer destroyed the defective tire or not. when i asked the dealer what they found when they replaced the tire, the dealer stated that the tire was defective because there was no apparent damage that would have caused the catastrophic failure of the tire. dt: 2005 ford mustang gt -had an electrical system problem which resulted in a crash. while turning off of the highway into a residential area the transmission malfunctioned causing uncontrollable acceleration. the brakes were appliedbut the vehicle continued to accelerate. the front brakes did not stop the vehicle. the vehicle went into a clock wise spin. the car turned onto the driver's side and then hit a tree. what happened next was that the electrical system was still acting strange, the trunk opened and trying to close it back down the lights came off and on. the door locks would lock and unlock by themselves. the vehicle had $6,300 worth of damage. the dealership did not assist the consumer with anything. the vehicle was purchased on august 29, 2005 as a new vehicle which only had 72 miles on it. upon impact the airbags did not deploy and the fuel cut off switch did not activate. a police report was taken. *ak *mr

2005 mustang brand new has faulty gas tank. i was unable to put gas in tank. dealer is ordering a new tank from manufacturer to be replaced. also replaced front upper strut bearings and lower sleeves brackets that where defective. everytime i made turns in vehicle i heard clicking noises. also trunk latch is getting replaced due to trunk wont unlock with remote key. part is on order as well as gas tank. there is to many of these gas tank problems that other consumers are having for ford not to recall them or investigate. same goes for the struts. *jb

purchased our 2005 mustang convertible on 4/27/05, after waiting two months for it to be built. started having a problem with vehicle taking in fuel after about a month of ownership. tried several gas stations to be sure it wasn't a pump problem, but made no difference. called don reid ford in july and asked about problem and was informed there was a service bulletin on the issue and they ordered a new gas tank. tank was installed on 8/4/05 and filled up without a problem for the first 2 tanks. after that the gas pump started clicking off again after the third fill up. tried different gas stations again and had the same results on the next two fill ups. took vehicle back to dealer on 9/12/05 and was told they would have to test some things and call a ford engineer on the matter. was called by my service advisor on 8/14/05 and told that ford was aware of the problem and the engineer told my advisor and the service manager that "if all the stars were aligned, they would have a fix in about 90 days." i was told by my service advisor that i should try using gas stations with slower pumps until they get the fix...and i paid $27,570 for that answer??? *nm

after driving my mustang approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours at highway speeds, i exited the interstate. at the top of the ramp i attempted to merge into traffic but when i pushed the accelerator the car shut off right in the path of oncoming traffic. it did restart so i avoided being struck. since then it has done it several times even while driving along then accelerating. i have had several close calls due to this problem. i have returned the car to the dealership on three different occasions. the first time, they replaced a o2 sensor. the last two times they said they can not find a problem.

the 2005 mustang windshield glass seems to be much "softer" than others on the market. with only a few thousand miles on the car i started noticing quite a few very small (pin size) chips in the glass. now after 17k miles there are thousands of these little chips. this windshield looks worse than my old pickup that had over 250k miles. i have spoken to several other 05 owners in the forums and have found that they too are experiencing something similar to this issue with their vehicle. the dealer stated that it too seemed to be an excessive amount of chips when looking at the general condition of the rest of the vehicle. a few minor chips on the front fascia and hood are all that there is up front. no gravel roads in my area, not much construction either. my habits when driving are to avoid large vehicles and stay in the other lanes when behind one.*jb

there have been no crashes or injuries, but i am concerned about something. when i fill my gas tank, it seems as if there is some kind of "vapor lock" or something that keeps causing the gas pump to kick off.....i have to reposition the hose and try varying amounts of pressure on the nozzle to get the gasoline to flow into the tank. on occasion, gas has spewed back out of the tank from the nozzle. it seems to be worse when the tank is near empty or i've been driving for a long period of time. *nm

dt: contact stated that there was a small amount of brake fluid that was leaking from the cap on the master cylinder. the service dealer replaced the cap on the master cylinder to remedy the problem. this did not stop the brake fluid from leaking. the concern was that the brake fluid was leaking onto the structure of the vehicle. over time, this may cause excessive corrosion on the structure of the vehicle. the service advisor stated that this was normal for this model. another complaint the contact stated t was that he power driven seat made a creaking noise. the dealer would adjust the seat to keep it from creaking. the concern was that if he has to adjust the seat while driving it may cause the contact to become distracted and could result in an accident.

POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION

(1 and 2) the manual transmission on the vehicle has intermittent problems where it will not go into gear (up-shifting). regardless of type of driving (fuel efficient, hard driving), the vehicle will lock out of the next gear. for example, from first to 2nd gear. the transmission will go approximately half-way into gear and stop. the result is an inability to continue accelerating. the vehicle must be taken out of the locked gear, put in neutral, clutch released and re-engaged, then shifted back into the previously attempted gear (2nd gear in the current example). possible results of this incident include accidents and injury. i have almost been rear-ended several times. (3) the vehicle has been taken into service twice for the issue. the first time (june '05), the dealership adjusted the linkage resulting in no change. the dealership also told the consumer (me) to make sure the clutch was completely engaged. the second time (10/18/2005) the vehicle was put in for repair, the dealerships service advisor and service manager informed the consumer that it was a design flaw in the transmission. ford is "looking into it, but there is no solution available at this time and may not be available in the future. *jb

since i purchased my mustang 30 days ago it's been in the shop four times for the same problem. the first time they could not find anything wrong, the second time it was the canister valve, the third time the fuel pump module, and now they don't know again. the car stalls and refuses to start. i called ford motor's roadside assistance on friday 11/18/05 for the fifth time because my car would not start. the gentlemen had me push a button to reset the fuel pump and the car started. ford also reneged on their promise to offer me a loaner car, stating i exhausted that benefit, however that makes absolutely no sense because if they had fixed the problem the first time, i would not have had to miss so many days from work and delayed my vacation because i cannot rely on my vehicle. *jb

right brake sticks causing rotors and pads to heat up and catch on fire. the dealer replaced the pads and rotors and i had to pay for it. the problem still there. i have also read forums online where other owners have had the brake catch fire due to it catching. the mechanic at the dealer admitted that the caliper was not working right, but dealer refused to replace it. my dealer will not fix problem or ever look at the rotor that is already torn up and over heater again after only 2 days of driving. i don't know if anyone else has been injured or killed, but i am sure if this is not looked into someone will be soon. i am not the only owner that is having this problem. dealer tried to claim we drove with e-brake on. it was not on. vehicle pulled to the right as if it was a alignment problem. when i stopped there was smoke coming from the right rear brake. i have the rotors and pads to prove that the only one that was messed up is the right. it almost caught on fire. *nm

difficulty in filling fuel tank. i have had this problem from the time i purchased vehicle, to present. vehicle is 2005 mustang gt and has over 5000 miles on it. basically, approx. every other time i try to fill fuel tank, one of two things happens: (1) fuel nozzle will almost immediately shut off- as if tank is already full. after multiple attempts (waiting, experimenting with angle and/or depth of nozzle insertion) i can almost always get fuel to start flowing into the tank. that's when symptom (2) can happen (again, roughly half of time i pull into station). at about the point when tank is half full, the nozzle will stop filling (as if tank is full) and will refuse to take anymore gas no matter what i do. i have experimented with different gas stations, and even with different pumps at same station and have yet to determine a pattern - or why this happens so randomly. one thing i'm sure of is that it's the vehicle's problem, as other cars i have had recently never did this. i have seen that this issue is known about by ford and a tsb has been issued. however, from forum posts i've seen on internet, it appears that fuel tank replacements ford has done for this issue many times do not fix issue. for that reason, i have lived with this annoyance so far. *jb

on december 30, 2005, my daughter (age 17) was preparing to stop for a red light, as she hit the brakes, she stated: "the car accelerated (full throttle), and would not stop. she called us by phone (crying) and reported the incident. we asked if she was ok and whether she could drive the car. she said yes. she drove the car back home (approximately 3 miles) where we (father and mother) questioned her about the incident. she stated: "she was driving about 50 mph and when she applied the brakes the car accelerated. i was unable to stop and went through a red light". at this point, my wife and i believed she somehow hit both the brake and accelerator pedals simultaneously. she stated emphatically, this was not the case and she would never drive the vehicle again. on monday january 2nd, at approximately 3:00 pm, i was driving the subject vehicle when the accelerator stuck full throttle. i pressed the brakes as hard as i could but the car continued to accelerate until i turned the ignition to the off position. i was in the center lane of the highway. i restarted the car (for fear of being run over by on-coming traffic, raining, decreased visibility), placed my foot on the brake, placed the car in gear to gather momentum, turned off the ignition, and rolled into a parking lot. the throttle remained open. i contacted ford who picked up the vehicle. team ford could not find anything wrong with the vehicle and wanted to return the car. i refused to accept the car for the following reasons: - car failed in full-throttle position (fail-safe position should have been no-throttle) - error codes did not identify this condition - (ford had not included this in their failure modes analysis) - replacement parts may have the same problem - - needed assurances from ford in writing that the root cause to this problem had been identified and corrected. ford corporate is sending an engineer to inspect the vehicle. *jb

i have experienced complete battery failure twice on my new ford mustang. the local ford dealers service department cannot give me a good explanation as to what is causing this problem. they told me that my car was not being driven enough. this is no answer. they tried to sell me an under the hood power disconnect apparatus. i said no as this would make me reset all of my radio and clock settings every time i disconnected the battery. i don't dare leave my car idle for any length of time as this will probably lead to another power failure. my car only has 1,100 miles on it and it has had to be towed twice to the dealer to have a new battery installed. no new car should have this problem. *jb

one week after car purchased paint flaking off and car has blue smoke coming from exhaust at start up. car has been painted since then 3 times and to date paint is flaking off and you should see all of the buffing scratches from the dealership(town & country ford/bessemer, al) trying to correct their mistakes. i might add this is a roush mustang. car has been in 2 times for blue smoke and service department can't duplicate the problem(common statements made by ford's service department). ford motor company refuses to even send a representative out to look at the vehicle. to say the least they do not stand behind their products and we will never purchase another one. we are in the arbitration process at this time with this vehicle. i would not recommend a ford to anyone. read all about their problems online before you purchase. i wish i did. *jb

i was driving through a shopping center parking lot at a speed of approximately 5-10 mph, approaching a stop sign. there were about three cars ahead of me. as i applied the brakes, the engine suddenly revved and bucked 3 times right into the back of the vehicle in front of me. the brakes were applied throughout, but did not stop the vehicle. that monday vehicle was taken to ford dealership and they could not duplicate problem, therefore no assessment was made. they suggested the after market floor mat i was using could have possibly been the cause for the sudden acceleration. i disagree, the floor mat was very heavy and did not shift about and was not in the way of the accelerator pedal; although, i have removed the floor mat. any further incidents will be reported. *nm

i took my car back to dealer for some warranty repairs and they asked me if my car had been in an accident. i advised them no, it was purchased new. they said my vin# was invalid. after checking further they discovered my vin number on the dash and the vin number on the door were different. i have been told to never allow a vin# to be changed, however, they want to remove my windshield and replace the vin plate to match what they say is the rest of the vin#'s on the vehicle. i do not feel this is acceptable. i entered the contract to purchase this car in good faith and feel that ford should do the same. i was told by a highway patrol officer that if i had ever been pulled over and they had run my vin# that they would have impounded my car for an invalid vin and probably arrested me for driving a stolen vehicle. they say this is a simple fix and won't cause problems down the road for me. i want them to buy back the vehicle or replace it with one that has matching vin and vin plate numbers. this is the only fix that will allow me to feel safe. the regional rep jocelyn dunning for ford said no way, although this doesn't happen often, it doesn't fall under the lemon law. when asked to speak to her superior she advised us she was it. when questioned further, she does have a superior, but she is the only one to make this determination. help! *nm

transmission stuck in neutral four times within the first six months. it happens when you are going slow and you shift into 1st gear and don't let the clutch out and you try to bring it back into 2nd gear. the 3 times it did this in parking lots it was not a scary problem but when it did this at a busy intersection i almost got rear ended. at first ford could not make it stick while testing and didn't know why it was doing this. now they are saying when it does stick you either have to come to a dead stop( which i figured out myself) or double clutch it. i haven't double clutched a car since way back in the 60s. they say it has to do with the sensors not working at slow speeds. and they say there is no repair because it is a normal operating characteristic of this transmission. by the way this is the 2nd transmission put in this car. i hope you can help other people with this info before someone has a serious wreck. thanks. *jb

my 2005 mustang gt has had several problems since ownership. i purchased this car new and even had to order the details i wanted on the car. since ownership, i have had the car into the service department on several occasions. there is a vibration that has been unable to be identified as of yet. despite the service departments calls to ford. vibration is still present. the other problem is the fuel gauge drops to "e" and an error light comes on. service dept. was unable to detect problem until the service engine light remained on. computer code said that the problem was in the sulfur in the fuel. am to suppose to add an additive to fuel occasionally. feel that this should be totally unnecessary since high-quality fuel is used and it is a new vehicle. apparently a service bulletin came out stating this problem. the fuel tanks are the same in other vehicles but this is a mustang problem???? this problem should be fixed without any other costs to consumers. also, not being able to fill fuel tax to maximum capacity. was told that it must have had an "air bubble." the service department at ford in grand junction colorado is trying very hard to fix the problems but is getting no where with ford. i have my car in more times then i can drive it. they have now had the car 4 days!!!! i then received a recall on an item on my 2006 ford f150 king ranch. what is up ford??? two new vehicles, too many problems. *jb

the parking brake calipers and pads freeze and will not release when temperature drops below 32 degrees--while the handle is fully released inside the vehicle. when in neutral and pushed car will not roll, and when in gear and given gas car barely budges. taken twice to dealership--by tow truck--but when arrived temperature had risen above 32 degrees and pads etc had released. dealership has not yet been able to reproduce the problem. dealership inspected entire assembly twice and found no problems. no repairs have been made. i am a firefighter/emt first responder and respond in my personal vehicle to fires/accidents/medical emergencies etc. having a car that does not operate correctly in cold weather is not an option for me. *nm

i was driving 30-35 miles on a busy street (over pass) in a 2005 ford mustang with my wife. the car went crazy unintended sudden acceleration with a frightening noise. i tried desperately to stop the car by braking hard and meantime to avoid the cars ahead and opposite coming cars. the car would not stop. i applied hand brake ,that did not help either only to leave heavy skid mark and the car to spin once thankfully in a corner of a three way road,at that stage i tried to put the car in park position ,but the second the gear reached the reverse mark the car went full speed backwards crossing the busy nordhoff way hitting a pole and fire pump and with car tires spinning at full speed at the moment i managed to put the car in park position and turn off the engine. luckily nothing serious happened to me and my wife and no car or other person .thanks to god. how.? i don't know ,someone up there must have taken care of us and the others because this street is near a shopping mall and the day was saturday 15 april and tim was 1 pm afternoon. the police and fire team got there immediately and there is a police report of the incident. i have hard time to convince insurance allstate and ford dealers to assign an engineer to look into the matter. i need your advise please. w e are emotionally disturbed . *jb

i have had repeated problems with my cd player (shakker 500) i have had six stereos in the car and all six have done the same thing. they will make horrible noises, say bad disk or disk error or nothing at all before it starts spitting out the cd's. if i do not grab the first cd, it will spit out all six. i have had an independent inspection of the car to determine the problem because i do not feel it is the stereo. the inspection states that the voltage is dropping in the car which sends the stereo into an erratic state. ford motor company says that they cannot duplicate the problem so their solution is to keep putting stereo's in the car. i just had a "brand new" stereo installed on april 26, 2006. this was to be ford's final attempt to fix the problem. the stereo went crazy again twice on friday april 28, 2006. i have repeatedly complained about this being a safety issue because i can't keep taking my attention from my driving to catch cd's. i want a resolution and i am not getting it with ford. i want to know how to go about getting a recall issued on this car stereo/ car/ voltage problem. any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. *jb

purchased my mustang on 4-05 and have had one problem after another. i brought car in on 12-05 for gas tank problem because i can't fill my gas tank up it keeps shutting off like it's full. i have to hold the nozzle upside down to get gas in my tank and stand back from it because it throws gas back at me. they said that they updated gas tank still problem. 6-2-06 took car in for same problem said they could'nt fix it and try using other gas stations tried that same problem.6-8-06 received phone call from the service mgr said they can fix my problem can you bring it in.6-13-06 brought car in for gas tank and hesitation in gas pedal which almost caused me to get in an accident.6-13-06 received phone call said they could not fix the problem with tank or gas pedal. i ask to speak to the gen mgr i explained my problems to him and he didn't want to listen to what i had to say that i needed to talk to the service mgr. i had to explain the problem again to the service mgr that they couldn't fix it. so why did you call me on 6-8-06 an ask me to bring it back in.the service mgr said this was not acceptable that he would take care of it .received phone call on 6-14-05 said they found the problem with gas pedal that it's the fuel pump and the tank that there going to re-route the filler neck hose and this should fix the problem. they said they will call me on 6-15-06 and let me know the outcome.6-16-06 i picked up my car and they said they tried to re-route the line and it still diid'nt work. i followed up with the service mgr that i don't want this car anymore and demanded my money back. he said that a factory rep would be contacting me and would be asking me a few questions and then we would be starting the paperwork.6-20-06 received phone call on my cell from service mgr stating that he had spoke to the factory rep. and he said that there's nothing more that the dealer can do for me on my car he told the service manager to tell me to call consumer affairs. *nm

the gas tank on my 2005 ford mustang v6 overflows when i fill it. i stop in advance of the tank being full then the fuel comes up and out the fill tube sometimes with enough force to splash onto my clothing. this happens every time i fill the tank and i have taken to not filling the tank completely any longer. this is after the tank was replaced by my local ford dealership where i purchased the vehicle. the tank was replaced because the fuel would not continuously flow from the pump(pump would shut off after about 1 second of fueling) causing me to spend 10 minutes or more at the pump at each fill up. *jb

i started to have problems with the handling of my 2005 mustang gt when i would drive down the road. it would swerve in the other lanes and it would hit the road bumps and holes like a "go kart" would. i noticed since i put on my 245/45/17 b.f.goodrich tires that i started having all these problems. i asked the ford place what i needed to do because my tire in the inner part was wearing out and my fabric had started to show. the ford dealership would not help me at all, all they would tell me is that i should have never changed the original tires and wheels. i have now american racing wheels with those b.f.goodrich tires still on, but i have not drove my car in about a week. *nm

january 3, 2006 the driver was traveling north on i-24 (nashville, tn.). the cruise control was on! she prepared to turn off i-24, at haywood lane exit, she applied brakes. the car first slowed down to 40 mph. then accelerated/sped up. the car was exited the highway at great speed. the driver braked again, the car slowed down a little. the car immediately sped up, with such force the driver was thrown to the back of her seat. pressing the brakes now had no effect. the consumer cleared the exit lane onto haywood, the car was still speeding. the driver faced no cross traffic at the intersection of haywood lane/antioch pike ( intersection-haywood the i and antioch pike the top of the t). the driver car was stopped by running into a car and a van at a gas station. the vehicles were spun around and hit the gas station at the t. the driver has driven this highway turn off and intersection over 23 years. she has been driving this make and type of mustang for several years. she has owned 5 mustangs. the driver was transported to hospital by ambulance. with a broken nose, broken foot (right where the foot was positioned over the brake), cracked ribs, bruised and lacerated face/ legs. after a hospital stay and follow-up visits before being able to return to work. ford consumer affairs was contacted and they did a telephone interview of the above factors. questions seemed to be aimed at determining if an electronic malfunction had occurred. the questioner may have been reading from a checklist. later, we received a letter from ford demanding all sorts of information. this was forwarded to ford. about 1 month later, we received a curt two line letter indicating "we are unable to offer any assistance at this time". our insurance company elected to try to perform a crash analysis. we apprised them of the similar cruise control on this website and provided information on "rogue signals" and other data concerning this event. results pending.

i have a 2005 mustang. it had fuel filling problems since i got it. the pump would click off continuously making it virtually impossible to fill. at times, it would even allow the gasoline to spew out of the vehicle. i took the vehicle to the service department and they already had a bulletin from ford indicating the problem and that the tank should be replaced. recently, i have been having the same problem again with the new fuel tank. i don't fill up that often, because i work from home and rarely drive the car. again, difficult to fill and fuel spewing out of the car onto the side of the vehicle and the ground. i know from reading online that hundreds if not thousands of other mustangs are having the same issues. i took it back to the service department and this time they decided that they were not going to fix it. according to the service ticket it is a normal characteristic of that vehicle to spew fuel out of the side of the car when you are attempting to fill it up. yes, i have the ticket if you would like a copy of it. the date i provide on this form will be for the most recent incident. it spent a week in the shop following the incident, but, according to the shop foreman, was never looked at. *nm

on 7 march 2007, while driving down the highway at speed limit of 55, my 2005 ford mustang accelerated to over 100 mph. the gas pedal was all the way to the floor. i had to put the vehicle in neutral and find a place to pull over. i held my foot on the brake to try to slow down, but this only caused the vehicle to fishtail. i finally made it to a gravel driveway and put it in park, but the accelerator stayed on the floor causing my tire to spin throwing gravel and then they began to smoke. i killed the engine and had to call roadside assistance to be towed to the local dealer. accelerator never lifted back to normal position. car is currently being checked at the ford dealership. *jb

purchased a 2005 ford mustang in may, 2005. ford failed to notify costumers that some of the 2005 ford mustangs may exhibit the fuel bank being slow or difficult to fill. basically, the fuel pump will shut off while pumping gas, as if the tank was full. ford did issue a service bulletin, tsb 05-4-8, after i purchasing the car, suggesting that ford's service department will replace the gas tank. the bulletin stated that the condition may be due to the fuel tank vapor venting system inside the fuel tank. although the gas tank was replaced the problem remained. ford did not consider this a defect, but rather a characteristic of the new model of ford mustangs. as a result, i could not take the car on extended trips because i was not sure that i will be able to find a pump that will allow gas into the car. out of 7 service stations in vallejo, i was only able to use 1 successfully, and even that one now failed to give me more than $10.00 or less worth of gas. *ak

over the winter my ford 2005 mustang v6 had an issue. the emergency brake would freeze up. you would not beagle to move the car, until the thing d-iced. now months later, due to this issue happening in the winter, finally the e brake got stuck in a position where the car could drive, but the brake pads and rotors were tore up in the process. the dealer is going to charge me $700 dollars to have all this fixed (new rear brakes and to fix the cable) ford put out an internal memo about this issue, why is there no recall on it. if you search the internet there are many others who have this issue.

filling fuel tank - in response to all those consumers having problems filling their 2005 ford mustang gas tanks, here is a method you can try which works for me everytime. turn the gas pump/hose nozzle in an upside down position within your tank and it should fill without shutting off!

2005 mustang convertible top failure. no prior warning of failure. i took it the the ford dealer in lugof, sc (james ervin ford) to seek repair. dealer said they did not repair failed convertible tops, i should take it to a body shop. i explained that the top had failed after just 42.000 miles on the car and that ford had issued 2 tsb. they did not investigate the tsb and refused repair.

while driving in light rain, i experienced a total failure of my electrical system, including headlights, door locks, interior lights, radio, trunk release, etc. at that point, all warning indicators lit up on dash. i pulled over, put the car in "park" only to discover that, while the electrical issues continued, i couldn't get the car out of "park". after ~ 10 minutes the electric systems came back online, but the "check engine" light remained on. after taking the car to the dealership, i was told the problem was a water leak. there are numerous posts about this issue online, but the dealership claimed to have never heard of it before and refused to fix it free of charge, despite the fact that it's a manufacturer's defect. this could cause a serious problem if the problem occurs while driving at night, when loss of headlights could have catastrophic consequences.

2005 ford mustang accelerates on its own. consumer states that the vehicle will accelerate on its own. he states that the rpm's would be up to 1500. he states that since then, now it accelerates up to 2500 rpm's. *kb a flight recorder was installed in the vehicle. the flight recorder captured the problem the consumer was referring to. the flight recorder was then sent to ford engineering and they stated the computer was demanding the vehicle to accelerate. the consumer also stated the transmission did not shift smoothly. the transmission would clunk when the clutch was let out, especially in lower gears. *jb

the air bag light behind the steering wheel comes on at random occasions. after starting the car in cool wet weather, or after the 3rd or 4th stop in a series of errands. it stays on until i turn the ignition off. after turning the ignition on again, sometimes it stays on again, and much of the time it goes off after the initial computer check. of course the dealer says they cannot do anything unless it is on all of the time. so what does it mean when it decides to stay on? will it not deploy in the event of an accident?

hand brakes are not locking or releasing properly, i had my car parked in my garage, i was warming it up, i pulled on the emergency brakes and went home to get something from inside the house and when i came back the car was already on the street with a dent, the hand brake did not lock, luckily no kids were there at the time, or a stroller. when releasing the hand brake it locks up it does not release and when driving it, it over heats the whole wheel.

the battery in my 2005 mustang convertible has gone dead twice. there is a technical service bulletin out on this, tsb 07-5-13 which says to tell the owner to buy a battery charger. this tsb applies to 2005-2008 mustangs, 2005 explorer sport trac, 2005-2008 expeditions and explorers, 2007-2008 explorer sport trac, 2005-2008 lincoln navigator and the 2005-2008 mercury mountaineer. ford knows there is a constant drain on these cars that drains the battery unless the car is driven basically every day. they refuse to even replace the battery.

there is an electrical problem. first 1 blinker started blinking fast(all lights were good), then it stopped, then the other blinker started, then stopped. next the window would not auto close when the door was opened and closed letting water in when it rained. then that stopped. next both blinkers started blinking fast. i was told by the dealer that the extended warranty i bought does not cover finding the problem.

the transmission failed. i was driving home from work and the car would only go in second gear. i made it to my mom's business and had it towed to ford dealership after talking to a ford customer service rep. the dealer told me the transmission would have to be replaced. every transmission place i talked to said that these transmissions are failing in all of the ford vehicles that have them between 60,000 and 90,000 miles. ford refuses to fix or replace the transmission because i didn't buy an extended warranty. it is going to cost me several thousand dollars to replace this transmission. there is a defect in these transmissions and all of them should be recalled and ford held responsible for the costs. my car isn't fixed yet because i don't have the money to do so. i have a 3 and a half year old mustang i cant drive that i am paying for.

all of my tires have bulges and pits in them. i've only had my vehicle for one year. the tires still have excellent tread on them, but they've developed pits and bulges. i never drive on the gravel and i live on a paved road. i took my car to my mechanic and he believes that the tires have some kind of defect. the size of my tires are 215 / 65/r16.

complete lighting failure while traveling at night. while driving home all of my lights began to flicker then completely failed, no headlights tail lights dash ( seemed to be a complete electrical failure ) initially thought engine had quit but no it was still running. i did get an engine code indicator light on the dash. once pulled over i checked the battery cables both were tight still no lights in the process i had put the car in park, transmission locked in park. after a short while lights came back on . everything seemed normal so i resumed my attempt to reach home however a few miles down the road it did it again. next day i took the vehicle into the dealership where they told me they had to reprogram the computer. vehicle so far has operated fine so far. not sure if the problem was related to the chips in the keys or the anti theft system however if this had occurred on a remote road or highway it could very well have caused an accident. i had no electrical period including the emergency flashers. the battery , alternator , and fuses were all functional.

at 60000 miles my transmission failed. it was leaking internally from the bell housing to the transmission. this caused the transmission to get hot. there were not outward signs of problems. no external leaks or any sensors warning me. since i could not afford the exorbitant extended warranty, i had to pay over $3000 to have it repaired. i think this is unfair to the consumer. my car is only half way paid off and i have heard since this has happened to me of other consumers having the same problem. i am a 43 year old woman and not a teenager hot rodding a car. i will never buy a ford again or use randall not dealership.

this complaint is regarding an air-bag light that comes on when driving my 2005 mustang. the car was purchased new from joe meyers ford in houston. within the first year, the air-bag light started coming on randomly. it might not come on for days, then decides to come on. the owner's manual says if this light comes on to take it to the dealership, nothing else. the first time i brought it to the service department's attention, i was told if it wasn't on it wasn't a problem. within my second year of ownership, the air-bag light came on while driving to the dealership for a routine oil change. this time the service again saw the light on. they kept the car, sold me a battery service where they removed the cable and sprayed anti-corrosion stuff on the terminal. this did not change the random light coming on while driving. i brought it back to the dealership for the ford mustang recall to re-program the airbag system. this did not change the random light coming on while driving. received a call in may 2008 that they had a replacement sensor for my car. brought it in and was told it was the wrong sensor. the service agent told me to call back later (no specific time line)to see if they had the new sensor. the car's warranty was up in july 2008, the light comes on all the time, and the dealership said they do not have the sensor for my car, but there are 5 dealers in town that have them. i plan to bring the car back this next week for them to fix the sensor, and feel they should honor the warranty. whether they fix the problem or not remains to be seen.

during the raising of my convertible top the mechanism failed leaving the top half way up. the damage is so bad the top will not go up or down. the dealer says it will cost $6,000 to repair. the car is a 2005 and has only 43,000 miles and the top has not been cycled that many times. my extended warranty does not cover the top. i feel that this failure has occurred very early in the life of the vehicle and the cost of repair is 1/2 the value of the vehicle. i did not abuse the top because the raising and lowering is all automatic and can not be abused.

three times in the last 3 years, my daughter's mustang experienced uncontrolled acceleration. the engine raced without pushing on the accelerator. the brake was useless. twice she was in traffic and narrowly avoided a crash. this week my wife was using the car and it did the same thing, and she crashed into a building. she was backing out of a parking space when it happened, hitting a pole. then, when placed in drive, the car raced forward. again the brake was ineffective. two years ago, this was reported to a ford dealer, who didn't find, nor fix, anything. strangely, they now have no record of the problem being reported. however, ford does.

at 43,000 miles the check engine light would come on and then go off. the engine rpms will surge up and down when first starting and there seems to be a greater amount of exhaust visible. the warranty ford dealer for this area in germany (kohlhoff ford in mannheim) checked the vehicle and determined that the engine air/gas control sensor (anti-knock sensor) is defective. this is a 50 state emissions control vehicle (california) but ford warranty advisor states that the warranty is only when it's in california. i am stationed overseas. so the 3 year, 50,000 mile warranty for this and the 8 year, 80,000 mile emissions warranty is not covering this. replacement parts are on order.

was driving down the highway dec 23, 2008 when the entire electrical system on my 2005 ford mustang with 25,000 miles on it went completely dead. i purchased this slightly used mustang at a chrysler dealer six months ago and i purchased a top of the line extended warr, for $2000.00 when the vehicle was taken to the ford dealership my top of the line extended warr. did not cover the repairs due to the problem being a known factory defect. ford motor company was no help with the problem also due to the car being slightly over the 3 year warr but not over the 36,000 mile warr. i have done some research since then on the matter and found this problem is a big problem with ford . the internet is loaded with complaints from consumers with this exact same problem as mine. i would imagine driving down the highway at 65 miles per hr could be a catastrophe after losing all electrical power. ford has a tsb number for this problem, it is tsb 07-14-6. the problem is water is entering the cowl area on the front of car and getting to the electrical system and shorting the system out. to make things worse, after all denied response to fix factory defect, they handed me a bill for $508.00 to trouble shoot problem when i specifically told the dealership there was a tsb notice on this problem and the problem was that of the tsb 07-14-6. this is no way fair and something has to be done.

in the winter of 2006, i had to bring in my car in for the dealership to fix the parking brake. what happened was, the brake cable split somewhere allowing moisture to collect. when the parking brake was applied it would cause that moisture to freeze, with the result of locked brakes. this has also happened in 2007. the car is no longer on warranty so i don't bother getting it fixed anymore, knowing it will just happen again. instead i just park on flat areas and leave it in gear. ford has never offered a valid solution other than bring it in every time it breaks. not impressed!

the emergency brake on my 2005 mustang began freezing up and wouldn't release. shortly after this began to occur the brake discontinued to work at all. after shelling out $300+ for a completely new emergency brake assembly, the same problem is back again. my guess is they have a design flaw in this assembly.

on saturday april 18, 2009 my daughter called to say that her car was hard to steer. she pulled over and her main belt had come off, which in turn caused the car to overheat. upon further investigation and turning the ignition over, the belt fell off again and so did the pulley on the harmonic balancer. we had to have the car towed to a shop. upon arriving at the shop i was told that the harmonic balancer broke off the crank shaft. when the new part arrived you could clearly see that it has been redesigned. we paid $600 to have the necessary repairs done. i was told by our mechanic that he has never seen anything like this and there should be a recall on it. i hope this will make that happen.

my brakes started making a noise so i decided to get them checked. the dealer said my emergency cable had slipped and fell on my rotor and split it. they had to replace both cables,my back brakes my rotor, flush out my brake fluid and replace it i called the ford contact number and the person i talked to you took the information down and ask if i thought ford should be responsible to fix my car i said yes because i researched online and found a lot of 2005 for mustangs that have had problems with their emergency brakes and cable. i think there needs to be a recall on this. some of the people that have had this issue states the ford puts out an internal memo but will not recall it. no at my dealership can explain how this happen. when i picked my car back up i asked is there a way i will know this will not happen again they said these cable have better rubber on them. this makes me think that the ones put on the 2005 mustang were not good so they made new ones better. so this is why i think this needs to be recalled so no one else will have to go days without a car.

2005 ford mustang i purchased the car as a used vehicle. on most occurrences it takes 15 minutes to fuel the car with about 1/4 -1/8 of a tank of fuel remaining. there appears to be an issue with pressure in the tank causing the pump nozzle to shut off repeatedly. the nozzle must be removed from the tank inlet and then put back in about 20-30 times in order for the tank to be filled.

i have experienced on several occasions water pouring into the vehicle under the dash board and in close proximity to the fuse panel on the passenger foot well. the dealer has indicated that the air intake to the cabin air unit is also connected the drain lines that drain water from the hood cowl. when debris from trees, bushes and shrubs finds it's way onto the hood cowl it gets into the drain lines (due to poor design and lack of any type of filter) with any rain. the rain washes debris into the drain lines which then backs up as the line fills into the cabin air unit. my dealer has told me the best way to prevent this from happening is to not park under trees. they did not tell me that when i bought the car. an internet search shows many people with a similar problem on the model year and later years. a tsb exists on this problem.

trying to refuel at some pumps is a problem. something keeps shutting off the pump. i have learned to recognize this and go to another station down the road. i can usually fill the tank at another station. there are some stations where this has problem has occurred more times than not, so i try to avoid these stations.

popping noise up front when i turn left or right, also very hard to put gas in tank my brother is a certified mechanic and he said it was the strut bearing plate making the popping noise on the passenger side. it is like 300.00 plus labor to replace. i have read alot of people complaining on the popping noise, this should be a recall. the gas tank should be a recall too. thanks

i am not sure exactly who to send this to. i am contacting you about a vehicle safety issue. this is about a 2005 ford mustang. i have talked with the ford dealer about this and they are unwilling to help. this is a known issue with this vehicle model according to the ford dealer service dept and i would assume other ford vehicles with this engine. this mustang has 60,000 miles currently. this issue has been going on since approximately 45,000 miles. the issue, according to the dealer service dept, is with the engines throttle body. apparently the throttle plate bushings become worn and allow the plate to become stuck shut. this causes the engine to become "stuck" at idle. this has resulted in multiple near miss vehicle accidents. this has happened quite often when trying to pull out into traffic from a stop and the car will not accelerate when the gas pedal is pushed, even to the floor. the car just idles into traffic or the engine dies completely adding the problem of no power steering. i have two vehicles that were affected by safety recall 07s57. this seems to me to be a similar safety issue and thought i should contact the nhtsa. i am not sure who to contact about this for help. if this is not the correct place to send this can you forward it to someone or reply to me with info. thank you matt mitchell san antonio, tx

my 2005 ford mustang shut totally off while traveling in the left lane of a busy interstate highway in nc (i-95n). i managed to get off road and had the car towed to a dealership near fayetteville, nc. the diagnosis was a bad mass air flow (maf) sensor. i feel that a vehicle should go into a fail-safe mode and not totally shut down due to a minor issue such as a bad maf sensor. under slightly less favorable road/weather conditions, this dangerous vehicle fault could have resulted in an accident.

while driving my 2005 ford mustang (v6 with 7,000 on the odometer) at approx. 40mph the gas pedal suddenly became totally inoperative. this occurred only once but was followed in two subsequent events with the check engine light coming on and the (yellow wrench light) for the throttle control. this then activated the "limp home" mode. obviously loosing all gas pedal response while driving was the frightening part of all this.

lost power steering when belt came off. the harmonic balancer separated with the pulley part moving 1 1/2" toward the motor taking it out of alignment with the rest of the belt. ford admitted this has been an ongoing problem with the harmonic balancers and there is a nationwide back order on them.

PARKING BRAKE

freezing temperatures and snow led me to use the parking brake on hill overnight. the next morning the rear brakes did not disengage despite releasing the e brake handle which turned off the sensor. i did not attribute the difficulty of the drive to the brakes as there was lots of snow in the parking lot and the light sensor was off. the car was driven half mile, and when i parked, i was inspecting the rotors, the temperature of which immediately burnt a hole in my winter glove. i called the dealer to ask about problem and they seemed like it was the first time they have heard about it, but there are numerous online posts relating to the same issue. has not yet been fixed, as i am in process of trying to figure out if this is a problem the dealer should cover, or if i am going to have to pay for it out of pocket. it would seem as though a safety recall should have been issued for this problem since the parking brake is a safety feature and this is not a part that normally goes bad under normal wear and tear conditions. please continue to make ford aware of the extremely disappointed owners they have due to their refusal to take care of this safety issue.

1. ran out of gas on freeway 2. within 1 week after buying my 2005 mustang the gas gauge would read out of fuel when i had a full tank. now the fuel gauge stays on full even when i am out of fuel. 3. fords solution was to add tekron fuel booster, which to my surprise worked for a while. now i put in the tekron from chevron and it does no longer solve the problem. i talked to the ford dealer and ford motor company and got the same answer, the mustang has a split fuel tank and both sides have a fuel level sensor and they both have to be replaced to solve the problem. to a tune of over $600.00. why is it that nissan has a recall back to 95 to fix fuel gauge problems but ford puts the repair cost on the customer, its not right.

2005 mustang had routine automatic transmission flush done at 46k miles, prior to service no leaks, only complaints of noisy transmission. now transmission leaks, noticed some oil at a few hundreds wiped it clean thinking it was residue from the flush. at 50k checked again and leak in worse and took back to dealership (jones ford, n. charleston, sc). dealer refused to cover the repair of the leak, stating leak was not caused by routine maintenance they performed, although states they do these routinely and occasionally cars come back leaking from the procedure. contacted ford motor crc and they stated it is a dealership service issue. dealership says it's not. yet i'm out to pay for a repair bill ca. between $700 and $1000 depending on damage done.

took my 05 v6 to the dealer because there was a collection of lights on the dash lit up, check engine, brake, oil pressure, traction control, traction control off, low fuel, fuel gauge not working and the turn signal lights on dash didn't work either. this happened after water leaked into my car after a hard rain. dealership said smart junction box got wet due to bad sealant,which caused the leak. however, smart junction box is not covered under warranty and my car only has 65k miles. this is now the third time this has happened due to their mistake.

initially, the tachometer stopped working unsure of the date, early 2009. 5-speed. replaced a fuse thinking that was the problem but it didn't fix the problem. in september 2009, while on the highway for about 45 minutes heading out for the weekend, the temperature gauge indicates the car is hot. we pull over and check under the hood; no smoke, no leaks, no smell, everything seems normal. we decide to return to our house, park the car until we get back to further investigate. the gauge continued to move hotter so we ran the heater all the way home. upon our return from the weekend trip, we started the car and the gauge automatically went to hot. a search on the internet came back with many others with the same year/model and the same problem and indicated that the dealers were saying that it was a bad instrument/cluster panel that would have to be replaced and that the other gauges would also stop operating. cost to repair about $1000 and mileage would have to be certified. we continued to use the car without any heating up problems although the gauge indicated otherwise. recently, the speedometer has started going bad as well. sometimes it tells you speed and sometimes it doesn't. only thing working right now is the fuel gauge and don't know for how long. mileage is under 25k.

water leak in passenger side kick panel ford knew of water leak issue when vehicle was manufactured. i had about an inch of water on my passenger floorboard after a storm. also rear brakes stick after using emergency brake. if i ever have to use my e-brake in an emergency the rear wheels will lock up and be even more of a hazard and danger. both these issues are very safety related. searching the internet you will find literally hundreds if not thousands of complaints about this water leak and e-brake damage issue. please do something about this. i am currently thinking of suing ford for the water leak and the fact that the technician at the dealership admitted this is a known ford problem but not enough people have complained for them to care...

in reference to tsb-08-26-7 and tsb-07-14-6, there is a difficult to diagnose water leak in the floor board of the vehicle. the water leak coming from the passenger side of the vehicle from the wheel well into the floor board of the vehicle comes into contact with the smart junction box (sjb) of the vehicle. when water seeps into the sjb, it short circuits the majority of the electrical system of the vehicle including: headlights, tail lights, a/c, instrument panel, radio, windshield wipers, rear defroster, windows, door locks, and a variety of other items. if all the correct conditions prevail, such as, night time driving in the rain and the water seeps into the sjb and short circuits it, the driver is left in the dark with no lighting, no wipers, or instrumentation of any type. quick fix for dangerous condition was to pull the kick panel out of the floor board, unplug the sjb connector, and allow to briefly air dry before reconnecting. vehicle was taken to dealer only to be claimed the "instrument cluster" was bad. even though the tsbs were mentioned by the owner, nothing was said of the sjb being the problem.

i have a 2005 ford mustang convertible. without warning the top jammed about a 1/4 of the way going up. it appears the left side torsion bar snapped causing the weight of the top to shift to the right and bent the right side frame. i can not put the windows up because the whole top is now out of alignment. vehicle is stored all winter long and has less than 15,000 miles on it. the convertible top frame is a poor design. i brought it to 3 places to be looked at and have been told from all 3 places that this is an on going issue with the 2005 ford mustang convertible tops. i do not see that a recall has been issued but have seen some tsb. i feel that ford motor company should be held responsible to produce vehicles without mechanical flaws and use quality parts. ford motor company needs to step up to repair them without financial burden on the consumer when they are exposed.

i am the owner of a 2005 ford mustang with a standard transmission. this morning (with overnight temperatures in the 20s) as i started out of my driveway to go to work, my car stalled. i restarted the car and tried one more to move forward. the vehicle stalled again. on the third attempt, i was applied more fuel to get the car moving, but my back wheels were very hesitant (as if the brakes were locked up). i drove the car several blocks to my repair facility. when i got out of the car, i could smell that the brakes had gotten hot. my service associate took the vehicle into the garage and put it on the lift to inspect. he stated that the brakes had seized (unknown reason at this time). upon removal of the driver's side wheel the problem was resolved. the mechanic stated that there was, most likely, some moisture in the emergency brake line and that during the short time that the vehicle was in the heated garage the line had unfrozen (melted). he suggested that i not use the emergency brake for parking in subfreezing temps. he also stated that ford is aware of this issue and that i should contact ford for final resolution. i contacted my local ford service department who read a bulletin confirming that ford is, in fact, aware of this defect in the original emergency brake cable / boot. the service technician went on to say that ford has an improved part and that the boot and cable lining have new features to resolve the defect. i then contacted ford customer service who also acknowledged that ford is aware of this defect, but at this time there is no recall and that ford's current policy disallows reimbursement for the stated defect. failure of the braking system could potentially cause severe injury or death to myself, passengers and anyone who might be in the vicinity during a failure with the braking system. at this point, i obviously need to have the vehicle repaired. since there is no current recall ford has declined reimbursement.

on september 1, 2010, the gas gauge on the vehicle failed - reading more than full, and other various irregular readings. repaired for $75, then failed again next day. have not repaired again as dealer estimates cost at $1500 due to multiple failures according to their tests. gas light still works when fuel is very low. on november 1, 2010, the speedometer failed - reading 80 mph when vehicle is stopped. have not repaired, using gps to estimate speed. i contacted ford about these issues as they seem very common with this model & year vehicle by a quick search online. they advised that i should just get it fixed at the closest dealership. given the frequency of this failure i feel they should be responsible as the original parts must be faulty given the number of people posting the same issues online. ford advised that your agency was the only one that could order a recall. i would think that knowing how much gas you have or knowing how fast you are going are valid safety issues that ford should be required to fix at their expense.

i am the owner of a 2005 mustang. i have already had to replace the throttle body as my car (which is an automatic) would randomly stall out at lights. one time leaving me stranded in the intersection. it is very difficult to fill my gas tank as the gas pump nozzle kicks back for some reason while pumping. my speedometer will read inaccurately at times, sometimes reading extremely high numbers, sometimes not at all. i am using gps and my own discrection when gauging how fast i'm going. after a heavy rainstorm, when making left turns, my passenger floor becomes flooded by water pouring out from under the passenger side dashboard. my passengers feet get soaked as well as carpet, floormat and any other things i have in the floor board.

e-brake malfunction on a 2005 ford mustang v6. i leave the car in gear all the time because of the issue. my vehicle rolled down a hill over a curb and caused $980 worth of damage to the condenser and radiator. apparently ford said the e-cord is wrapped all around the unit and i need a replacement at $565.

2005 mustang v6 automatic. stalling unexpectly this has happened several times. repair shop unable to find out what is wrong. also temperature gauge not working already replaced the sensor and it worked for a while now not working again. now my transmisstion is slipping. and of course filling the car with gas is also a problem. seems to be that all these problems are very commong and i think ford should be taking care of fixing them.

i have a 2005 ford mustang and went to go to work and my emergency brake will not release. i can not drive my car. left it running for 20 minutes to let it warm up but it still will not release. this happened when i first got the car new and the dealership replaced the brake stating it was a defect. but now its doing the same thing.

while driving in the evening the engine temperature and fuel gauges failed. the temperature gauge gradually kept climbing higher above the red line. an inspection of the engine compartment reveled that the engine was operating at normal temperatures. the fuel gauge also started registering incorrect reading; gradually moving past the full line even though no fuel was added. starting and stopping the engine caused the fuel gauges and temperature gauges to turn clockwise (or higher). both gauges currently point down and are effectively useless. the repair shop in researching how to replace or repair the component and how much the part will cost. the failed components appear to be linked to the vehicle's speedometer.

when stopped suddenly the car will remain idle for about 30 seconds before it will kick back into gear. when this happens, car will roll backwards in drive. if you try to press the gas to force the car to move it will stall completely. car has been doing it since 2007. ford dealership could not find anything wrong with it. car currently has 44,000 miles on it. also gas, temp and speedometer gauges have started going crazy the last three weeks.

gas tank will no longer accept gas from a gas station pump. we have repeated shut offs of the pump. can only use pump by turning gas pump upside down. this is a public safety issue as gas will overflow the tank and will spray into the ground. ford is aware of problem as a design defect, but will only cover expense if car is under warranty. this is a problem in 2005 and 2006 mustangs which are most likely out of warranty. ford should be required to fix this problem when it occurs.

when attempting to put gas in the vehicle you have to run it in real slow or the pump will shut off. it acts as if the tank is full even though it is almost empty. apparently the gas is pooling where the end of the pump releases the gas, there is a sharp slightly uphill right angle for the gas to travel and there is not enough room to for it to move through like other cars. the gas float stopped working as well, the gas needle is buried on the far right side of the guage inside the car, it is worthless, i believe these are related because they happened right around the same time.

went to start my car and noticed the speedometer was sitting on 20mph. up to this point, it had no problems. i tried to reset according to manufacturer instructions with no success. a few days later it had moved up to 80mph. after a few more trips and several attempts to reset the speedometer, it finally dropped back down to 0. however, less than a month later, i have noticed it moving back up. up to this point i have not replaced any parts as it is unknown what part is not causing the issue.

2005 ford mustang coup v6 - instrument cluster failure - headlight failure -turn signal failure - false information via digital instrument display - door lock failure - radio failure. indications of failure began in january 2010 with speedometer failure. in the fall of 2010, the charging system gauge failed but in-car system check reported all was normal. during the summer, speedometer returned to normal operations. winter of 2010, speedometer failed again. end of january during warm weather, speedometer return to normal operation. february 1, speedometer fails again. february 2, ticking sound from behind the instrument cluster is noticed when ignition is turned off and speedometer fails. on february 4, 2011, entire instrument cluster failed, on board diagnostics reported traction control failure, low brake fluid, low oil pressure, parking brake on, low fuel warning, seatbelt warning, abs warning. at the same time, the power locks failed, power windows failed, security system failed, service light illuminated, interior lights failed, and radio failed, and windshield wiper fails. all these failures/incidents happen in cold weather only.

i have an 05 mustang, automatic, v6 it has about 65,000 miles. i like everyone else am having problems with the gauges and the car stalling for no reason. i noticed no one has been killed yet so i guess that is what ford is waiting on before doing a recall. this is crazy. someone should make them take a look at what is happening with this vehicle and issue a recall.

speedometer failure. the speedometer in my car started showing i was going 10mph while the car was not moving.i had to turn the car off and restart it to get a correct reading. eventually that didn't work. the speedometer would stay at 10 or 20mph till the car warmed up, then it worked fine. then it started staying at 20mph if the weather was cold. (at night it didn't work, in the daytime when it was warmer outside it worked). now the speedometer doesn't work at all any more. its permanantly stuck on 55mph even when the car isn't running. i did research on line and found a large amount of 05 mustang owners with the same exact problem. this is a safety issue and an obvious manufactured defect and needs to be recalled to fix the problem.

the car's instrument cluster suddenly completely malfunctioned, the "fail-safe" engine system light came on, causing the engine to shut down and to suddenly stop the car in moving traffic. this was truly a life-endangering situation. the speedometer and the engine temperature dials of the instrument cluster had been erratic in the past weeks before the incident. obviously, this car is unsafe to drive. for more than five weeks ford motor company has claimed to have no instrument clusters available to fix the problem.

my 2005 ford mustang failed virginia state safety inspection due to all 3 emergency brake cables needing to be replaced. this is a known defect by ford (tsb 0654) and no recall has been issued. numerous owners found on the www have similar complaints and have faced large repair cost ($500-700) as well as vehicles rolling out into the street causing accidents when left unattended on inclines. the parking brakes have locked up in cold weather. this in my opinion is a safety item and should be recalled and repaired immediately. please make ford issue a recall before someone really gets hurt.

i was driving on the 407 traveling 110 km per hour. windows, radio, fan, lights, emergency lights started to fail. the car was losing speed. it broke down on the highway and emergency lights nothing would work. i called 911 because i was scared of getting hit. police came and my car was towed to the ford dealership. they replaced the alternator and battery costing 566.00. a month later the same thing happened. i find out that this is a common problem with ford vehicles, a faulty firewall seal causing water damage to the smart junction box. i found many ford consumers online with the same problem. this is a danger to our highways. ford is now telling me this will cost 3000.00 to fix, not only is their manufacturer's defect a danger, it is costing consumers thousands of dollars. they have lied to me saying it is caused by a crack in my window. they are trying to cover up a bad defect.

i have a 2005 ford mustang. there seems to be a problem with the panel the rpms do not work,the gas gauge doesn't work and the cold to hot gauge does not work. i contacted ford they said there is not any recalls and it my problem. and i needed to have it fixed thought it seems to be a computer system error with the car.to start the rpms would work then not work. i thought well not big deal might work its self out then i noticed when adding gas the gas gauge would spin around like a clock and you could not read it or know when you were running out of gas that is very unsafe to be on the road with out knowing how much gas is in your car. and the low on gas light does not come on to tell you either. then what failed was he cold to hot gauge. nothing works on the panel at this time. i cant drive the car feeling safe.everything seems to be some sort of computer problem with the car and ford does not want to step up to the plate and say there is a problem with there car but there is and there refusing to fix it like they told me its not there problem. i told them they need to pay for and fix this problem i didn't build the car they did they refused.

i own a 2005 ford mustang gt rain leaks into the passenger side interior above the fuse and smart junction box. when i was driving it in the rain i lost all electrical functions ie headlights,brake lights wipers, horn and so on. luckily i was driving during the day and could see had it been night time i would have crashed. i called my ford dealer and they stated that are aware of the water leaks with the mustangs but did not offer to fix for a defect on their fault. a search of the internet shows many people with the same problem.

i own a 2005 v6 mustang. the speedometer stoped working properly at 75k miles. most of the time it stays at zero mph and then others it is all over the place. now my oil gauge seems to get stuck on cold mornings and i also noticed that temp gauge doesn't work sometimes. what is going on with this vehicle. i have read numerous complaints online about the same issue other 2005 mustang owners are having. i have never had this happen to any other vehicle i have ever owned, and i believe that this is an iherant issue with the year and model. ford should do a recall and fix this problem. i am asking for the ford company to pick up the tab on this one before something happens and someone get's hurt. the speedometer malifunction could mislead driver's of speed and cause an accident. ford want to charge $1k to fix the issue that obviously a flaw with the car model. please help! mileage: 81,729.

2005 ford mustang been to the service department 3 times for not being able to fill gas tank, spews out even at a trickle from the pump 4th time returned to dealer and said there was a repair but now my warranty has run out. they knew the repair was available long ago. surely this qualifies as a defect in the system. when it happens my wife gets covered in gas shooting out the filler neck.

my 2005 ford mustang v6 has been having speedometer malfunctions weekly. these malfunctions cause the speedometer to start at numbers that are not 0, resulting in an inaccurate reading of my speed. it read 120 while i may only be going 40 and even when i shut down the vehicle it will remain at 40+. a temporary fix is to turn the vehicle on and off which sometimes causes the needles to slowly drop, but usually it will stay over 20 for extended periods of time, and when i do succeed in reaching 0 within a week or two the problem will occur again. i have been in contact with many other owners of the same model and year of this vehicle and all are having similar problems, most of us have gone to a ford dealership and have been told that it will be a $500-$650 repair/ replacement of the instrument cluster which seems to be the reason for the problems, but since so many are having a similar problem shouldn't this be a recall?

the issue with the vehicle is the instrument panel. at first the temperature gauge failed to work and the needle showed the temperature cold regardless of how long the car was running. next the fuel gauge failed, it would work erratically and show fuel for days or completely go in 360 rotations until it finally stopped working all together. and recently, the speedometer gave and remains stuck at 30 mphs even at idle. i've been able to live with the temperature gauge not working, and have been keeping track of mileage to determine my fuel remaining, however, i do not have an alternative to judge my speed. i will unfortunately have to replace this part.

there is a manufacturer's defect that allows water leakage into the instrument panel/smart box junction and subsequently into the vehicle itself. resultant issues include the inability to drive the vehicle (frozen shift), electrical failure with loss of instruments including various gauges, brake lights, ventilation/ac, power windows, and headlights, and physical water damage (mold/mildew). ford is aware of the defect and later models were redesigned to compensate for the flaw. however, ford refuses to issue a recall or acknowledge the deficiency, nor will they provide any kind of financial assistance with the necessary repairs directly caused by this defect. should the mustang experience the above mentioned electrical failures while being driven, an accident could occur. there are numerous similar incidents reported about this exact same issue, and ford must be held accountable. i spoke to ford "customer service" on 5/5/11 to report the issue and request financial assistance for the repairs. i was told to take my vehicle to the dealership, pay for the diagnostic test, and have the dealership confirm the "defect". i made a follow-up call to ford "customer service" on 5/9/10 to report that the service manager did confirm the defect and that he had seen similar problems. however, ford said they were not responsible, would not provide financial assistance, and that i was "misinformed" by my initial call to ford in giving me hope they could somehow help me. additionally, they stated that i "should not expect my ford vehicle to last beyond 100k miles". in the meantime, we are responsible for the towing, diagnostic, and repair bills, so the ford service department is profiting from this. this was our fourth ford vehicle, and it will certainly be our last.

it had rained in the day, but was not raining at the time. turned the a/c on as the glasses were foggy. dashboard warning system went off with all kinds of warnings. all electrical components including lights, radio, locks failed while the car was being driven. the engine was running ok. drove home as it was during the day. found water in the fuel cutoff switch on drivers side and on the floor on passenger side near the fuse box. used paper towels to dry both. did not help. left the car for an hour or so and then it was working fine. could have been a major safety issue if it happened at night. car has been running fine since.

2005 ford mustang convertible. severe water leakage occurring in passenger side front and rear areas. water leaks into a compartment that surrounds the cabin air filter and then blows in through the cabin airway and leaks out below the glove box. this has severely damaged carpeting and causes mold and mildew to form. very bad for anyone who breaths this in while traveling in the vehicle. currently trying to seal with no luck and see hundreds of complaints on the internet. occurs whenever vehicle is left outside in rain. the first 5 1/2 years of ownership the vehicle was garage kept. thank you

upon following the instructions in the manufacturer issued owner's manual which states "to set the parking brake, pull the parking brake handle up as far as possible", i experienced a loud popping sound followed by the inability to use previously mentioned parking brake since the cables had been snapped. i have seen that there are numerous issues and complaints pertaining to the parking brake/parking brake cables with 2005 ford mustangs, but it appears that nothing has been done to resolve this issue even though ford has acknowledged the inefficiency of these cables by replacing them in the 2007 and later mustang models. the rubber coating of these cables is apparently inefficient in keeping moisture and water out of the cable itself as expressed by many unhappy ford mustang owners, which in turn caused my cables to rust and eventually snap. i find it extremely alarming that this is such a prevalent complaint yet nothing has been done to remedy this problem by either ford or the nhtsa. had the owner's manual issued by ford not said "pull the parking brake handle up as far as possible" my issue and possibly many others would not have come to fruition, since in an attempt to secure my vehicle based on the manufacturer's instructions my parking brake cables broke as a result of the faulty rubber coating. also, there is a good chance i would have not encountered this problem had the owner's manual stated to only raise the parking brake until a fair amount of tension is felt. however, the issue i experienced would have most likely been inevitable given the numerous issues and complaints already surrounding the problems with the parking brake and cable, so luckily i experienced this problem without myself or anyone else suffering any injuries. something needs to be done about this issue as it is extraordinarily unfair to put the responsibility of repair on the consumer when the manufacturer could have taken steps to fix this issue, and has done so in later models.

my complaint is on my 2005 ford mustang. the speedometer and rpm went out a few years ago when it had approximately 40,000 miles when the warranty expired. at looking online there are many complaints on the same vehicle same problem. i called gene messer ford and they said it would cost $99 just to diagnose problem. apparently it appears that the clusters on these vehicles were not made to last. it is not safe to drive without not knowing your speed. my vehicle begin with the speedometer and rpm jumping around and not displaying right speed and then just stop working! we have replaced the transmission speed sensor and it is still not working. the fuses and relays are fine. so it has to be a bad cluster!

i have a 2005 ford mustang with a speedometer failure. having accessed the internet have found an amazing amount of other folks within the same problem. the failure can lead to problems with the transmission shifting causing unsafe operation of the vehicle. it's unbelievable how many other people have had this problem. when contacting ford motor co. their response has not been to side-step the issue and not acknowledge the problem. their rep suggested that a recall would have to come from your agency. those of us that have the problem feel that the repair cost($500.-700.) should be ford's responsibility, not the owners of these vehicles. it's a shame that when something as obvious as this defect is cannot be admitted to be the faulty manufacture of the component by the company that produced it. makes one reconsider what brand of vehicle one should buy next! please help. i'm sure you've had plenty of complaints about this same issue. in 2008 ford replaced the gas tank on the ford mustang because of a defect in the gas tank for refueling. engine light comes on indicating either low fuel pressure or emitting emissions. verified problem at perry ford poway ca with [xxx] explained that the new gas tank needed to have new fuel pump cell to match the new gas tank. ford customer service verified only new gas tank installed in 2008. ford wants me to pay for correcting their error of not matching the right fuel pump cell to the new gas tank. if the gas tank is leaking fumes this should be considered a risk to me and other that had a gas tank replaced. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

speedometer at times sticks or shows the incorrect speed. even sitting idle the speedometer will show 5 miles an hour or even 20 mph. it's extremely inconsistent, so determining the correct speed is difficult to do. the speed will display both, higher than actual speed and lower than actual speed without ryhme or reason. additionally the needle moves in a sporadic behavior, like a second hand tic on a clock, rather than a smooth consistent flow. the tachometer appears to also be affected although it's much less noticeable. *kb

my son was driving his 2005 ford mustang yesterday when it burst into flames. he was pulling onto i 95 when the car suddenly shut off. he couldn't even make if off the driving area when it came to a complete stop. once it stopped black smoke started pouring out. he jumped out of the car and ran away from it when it burst into flames. the car was in perfect condition. never even missed an oil change. no warning signs of any issues. i am thankful that my son is safe but very upset at the ford car and have now read many ford fire issues that ford has not corrected.

i just visited an online ford forum after being quoted $950 to repair my speedometer on my 2005 ford mustang. there are 4 pages of complaints detailing the same problem with the same vehicle. perhaps ford has avoided a recall by stating this does not effect safety or emissions. however, i got my first speeding ticket in over a decade 2 days after this problem began. speed control does effect safety, and apparently, if gone without repair, the non-working speedometer effects the transmissions ability to shift properly, which is also a safety hazard. i do not have $950 to repair this problem, nor can i afford to pay the costs of speeding ticket fines, and the rise in my cost of auto insurance due to these fines. please investigate this problem, as it appears to be a recurrent issue with this vehicle that ford should take responsibility for.

the speedometer began to malfunction on my mustang last winter. some days it would work fine, other days the needle would not move at all, and on other days it would read a speed that was below what i believe i was driving based on the other vehicles traveling around me and my experience driving my car. the speedometer was mostly fine over the summer, except on a couple of occasions where my speedometer was reading 10-15 mph under what i was driving (at least what i think i was driving based on other vehicles on the road). i am not sure what caused it, but i would stop on a long road trip and when i got in and restarted my car the speedometer would be reading incorrectly. now that the weather has turned cold again for fall my speedometer and now my tachometer have quit working properly. they speedometer hardly ever works correctly now. mostly, the speedometer needle doesn't move and when it does it is showing a speed below what i am driving. as for the tachometer, it now longer works correctly as it is currently pointing at 6:00 o'clock. the needle still moves, but it is not reading anything when its starting position is at 6:00 o'clock.

my ford mustang has now 32k miles on it purchased new and only one owner/driver. all of my instrument are no longer working or work erratically. i am having problems knowing what speed i am traveling, if there is gas in my car. i am a woman who does not like to get stranded on the highway and this is now a big fear. i cannot tell what my speed is and therefore am very leary driving unless with traffic so i can keep with them. it is apparent alot of others are also complaining about the same problem to the point it starts to cause transmission problems. is there something we can do to get this up as a recall, what options do we have? i cannot afford to replace all clusters for 600-700 dollars and find out it is still having problems. any suggestions?

approximately a year ago, the speedometer and fuel gauges on my 2005 ford mustang started to malfunction. since then, they have been giving me false readings. examples include my fuel level will read at half a tank when i will actually be near empty, the more pressing issue however, is that my speedometer keeps giving me increadibly inaccurate readings, saying i'll be going 90 mph, when i'll really be going 20, or saying that i'm constantly going well over 150mph...even though my car will be parked and turned off. i have read that many other 2005 mustang owners are having this problem and being told they are having to pay anywhere from $500-600 for the repair when it is clearly ford motor's fault. i cannot afford to pay this, but i cannot afford to continue having to guess my speed either, it is unsafe, and potentially causing me to break the law by speeding. a recall order needs to be issued to save me and my fellow mustang owners from having to pay this excessie cost for a problem that is the maker's problem. *tt

the paint on the front edge of the hood is bubbling. i was told by the dealership it was oxidation and they were aware it was a problem with the 2005 mustang. however i was told by an employee of another dealership that is was not oxidation but an initial poor paint job. however, i am no longer under warranty. my car is kept in a garage at night and during the day while at work. it never sits out in the sun or rain. the dealership told me there is no recall because there were not enough complaints from owners. that cannot be true because the internet is full of complaints on this problem. i was told it would cost $895 to paint the whole hood and it would have a lifetime guaranty. i refused to pay that amount and they reduced it down to $695. but i would have to pay for a rental as it would take 2 days to paint. i refused to pay for the rental and negotiated for a free rental. i am getting 2 more estimates.

i stopped at a rest stop on the pennsylvania turnpike and after restarting the car the temp gauge went all the way past hot but the engine was at normal temp. after the next three starts the gauge needle is past all readings and essentially pointing toward the bottom of the temp gauge, at nothing. i cannot tell if the engine is hot or cold or in the normal range.

failure of instrument cluster and water leak in passenger side foot well. speedometer non-functioning, fuel indicator non-functioning, and engine temperature gauge non-functioning. provides serious safety hazard without knowing vehicle speed. any substantial rain results in water pooling in passenger side foot area, and saturation of fuse box area, which provides concerns for a vehicle-wide loss of electrical power and brake/steering control. i have looked at several online owners' forums and there are numerous cases of this commonly-documented safety problem, but ford motor company refuses to address it until nhtsa issues a recall. i have called fmc, and they refused to address the issue.

i first started having an issue with the temp gauge not working. now when it is cold outside my speedometer and rpm meter are not functioning until the car is warm enough. this first happened in feb 2010 but just one time. the first time it happened it was cold out and my speedometer went from 0 to 120 while stopped at a light then it stuck there and did not fix itself till the last part of that day. now it is happening again each time it is cold out the speedometer just stays below zero and so does the rpm until i drive for 5 miles or so. it seems to only be happening when it is cold out about 65 and below weather. temp gauge still not working and has been pointing at the bottom of the cluster since then. it still moves like it wants to work but never goes back to normal. ford says its the instrument cluster but i am a single mother and can not afford to pay 700 to 1000 dollars to fix what i think should be a defect because i have seen a lot of people online posting about the same issue and they are all the 2005 models. someone help please. i love my car so much. i have had it for 5 years now and still love it. thanks.

all the gauges on my 2005 v6 are failing. first, i had problems with the fuel gauge, which i figured was bad gas (sulfur?) a fuel system cleaner seemed to fix that one. then it was the temp. first it read hot, now it's stuck on cold. then the tach and speed got sticky. anyway, i was told by mechanic buddy the many fords mustang 2005 is having gauge problems, and the culprit is the syepper 'motor'. ford has heard of the problem but won't do anything about it (no recalls) unless you guys do something about it. my son was stop by the police because of the speedometer was displaying the speed incorrectly. this problems needs to be look at. pleas help.

i'm writing to you about my 2005 ford mustang and the issue with it's instrument cluster. this is a widespread problem with this make and model of car, just search "2005 mustang instrument cluster" on google and you'll see what i mean. evidently the motors in these clusters, which operate your instrument dial needles, fail regularly. my car is a 2005, with 55,000 miles on it. serviced regularly and well cared for. first, my tach started malfunctioning. i figured it was cold, and it only did it sporadically, so i lived with it. however, two months after the tach started acting up, the speedometer started malfunctioning as well. i did not feel it would be safe to ignore that. so i contacted my local ford dealership, described the problem on the phone, and the first thing the service person said was "it's the instrument cluster most likely. $500-800 to repair. when i got home, i started researching, initially just to see if i could find the part cheaper. the google search i did pulled up entire forums dedicated to this problem. that's when i went from resigned to mad. ford is putting the onus on the nhtsa to initiate a recall. and they said you won't do it if safety is not effected. well i don't know about you, but me and i'm sure every state trooper on the planet, would consider a malfunctioning speedometer to be a safety issue. and with the economy as it is, and ford charging $500-$800 to repair what they already know is a faulty system, a lot of people are not going to have it fixed. and take that 25 mph curve at 35 or 40 instead. that's not only going to be illegal....it's also dangerous. we were advised on the forum to write both ford and the nhtsa. i have now written both. surely one of you will do the right thing.

the speedometer, gas gauge and fueling gauge on the instrument cluster has failed. today the lighting behind the panel started to go out. this is a known common problem on the mustang with several people reporting to ford without any response to the public. we paid good money for these cars and this is a safety hazard. i cannot afford the 600+ quote, so i'm using a gps to gauge my speed and i'm having to track my mileage so i know when to get gas. ford needs to recall and fix before someone looses their life.

the instrument panel in my 05 mustang has completely failed. in 2008, the gauges would become erratic at times. (tach, speedometer, etc) this has become more problematic over the last couple of years usually only occurring in colder weather. at this point, the gauges have completely failed. case in point: during the summer of 2011 the car "actually" overheated due to a cracked thermostat housing and the gauge never displayed the issue before the failure. we were fortunate to have picked up on the issue (while driving the car at highway speed) before a fire or other unfortunate event occurred.... or before the car was permanently damaged. when i've consulted with the local ford dealer ship, (cookeville, tn) they act as if this the instrument panel failure is something new. this issue is posted on every major mustang forum or support site. heck, there are even businesses on the "web" that advertise their ability to replace the "stepper motors" that control the gauge functions. apparently the stepper motors that ford opted to use in their instrument panels are the cause of the issue. furthermore i receive customer complaint updates via the carfax web portal monthly. each update contains dozens of new reports with this problem. so.....the excuse that ford doesn't know anything about this issue..... doesn't hold water. if ford wants to offshore its components to 3rd world countries for cheaper labor and parts..... fine. the least they could do is stand behind their products when / if they fail. after all, they should have extra $$$ in the coffers from the savings of offshoring their components. any help you fellas could provide in pressuring ford to step up and take care of their problem would be greatly appreciated. *kb

when car is shutdown, the speedmometer needle sticks at different points on the dial. when running the speedometer registers speeds not consistent with actual speed as measured by gps. *tt ford motors has elected to repair this defect by replacing the entire instrument cluster at an estimated $770.00 price. an internet search will show that this problem -- caused by defective stepper motors -- is pervasive for this model year. i believe that knowing one's speed is critical to driving safely for the driver, the car's occupants and pedestrians (e.g. school children) near by.

speedometer began working erratically at around 33,000 miles. speedometer needle would hover at 20mph when in idle and would jump up to 80mph and then work sometimes, other times it would stay at zero. have not noticed any changes due to weather (rain or temperature). compared speedometer reading with gps speed and found inconsistencies of up to 10 mph when the speedometer did work.speedometer complete failure at 33,500 miles. temperature gauge failed at same time. i'm concerned about not knowing how fast i am going. i drive "pacing" traffic which still is not safe. multiple incidents of instrument cluster failures reported on several ford mustang forums by current owners. fords solution is a new instrument cluster which costs about $700. apparently the problem is with the failing stepper motors that drive the gauges. this should be a recall item as it does present a serious & potentially deadly situation in not knowing what the car's actual speed is. instrument clusters usually don't fail much less at 33,000 miles! there is clearly a design flaw, please issue a recall on this item!

on my 2005 ford mustang v6 the speedometer often gets stuck or performs erratically and stays stuck when the car is turned off. this is a large pain as it does not register any accurate speed and one must turn the car on and off several times to get the speedometer to zero. the failure occurs randomly about once a week. the quote to replace this product is ridiculous at around $600.

i was slowly turning into a parking space (cars on both sides and a car in front of me). i was in a parking lot traveling at idle speed. my foot was on the brake pedal. the engine suddenly began to run up. i immediately increased my pressure on the brake pedal. the engine was running so fast that the rear tires were burning rubber. i immediately put the car into park. my foot was still on the brake the engine was running at full speed. i shut off the ignition. the engine stopped. i waited a moment and then restarted the car without touching anything. my foot remained on the brake pedal. the car restated normally. this is the first time this happened. it has not recurred since the original incident on march 1.

first the gas gauge hand would stay on empty even when filling up or it would go straight down way past the full mark. never know how much gas i have. now the speedometer is not working properly. it will either stay at 0mph while i'm driving or say i'm going 20-30mph when the car is shut off and not even running. at times it says i'm going 110mph when i'm driving through town which is a 35mph and clearly i am not driving 110mph. i find this to be a great hazard to other drivers since i never know how fast i'm going. after doing internet research it seems many mustang owners have this same issue. i feel that having a defective speedometer is a safety hazard that needs to be addressed if safety is really important to the nhtsa.

the temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and speedometer began malfunctioning. now if car gets hot the fuel and temperature gauges cease to operate and the speedometer fluxuates between not working to being somewhere between 0 and 30 mph to fast or slow. ford said it wasn't a warranty repair and i received two estimates between $500 and $700 to repair the problem. looking at the various ford mustang forum sites i have observed hundreds of owner's with the same problem for the 2005-2009 mustang. as this is my wife's car, and i don't have the funds right now we have had to park the car since it is too dangerous to drive not knowing the car speed, if it is over heating, or running out of fuel.

speedometer gauge failure. the speedometer gave progressively more inconsistent readings until it finally settled below the 0 line and now does not move at all. the battery light also flickers randomly, although no problems were found with multiple batteries or the alternator. the light comes on even when battery testers are showing it having a correct charge. it appears to be a problem with the instrument panel.

the first thing to happen around june of 2011 was my gas gauge dropped to empty and the low fuel light came on when in fact i had a full tank. this started doing it every so often and now does it on a daily occurrence. the next thing approx. a month later my tach started acting strange and is now stuck in one position and has been that way for about 6 months. starting last september the speedometer would drop down to 0 while driving, sometimes it shows going 20 or 25 miles per hour when in fact i am probably doing 55 or 60. this is very distressing as i love my mustang and bought it brand new in december 2004. it now has a little over 70000 miles and i am seeing where others have this same problem. this is not a fluke but sounds like a defect on these mustangs. it is not a cheap fix and ford needs to step up to the plate and a recall needs to be done. this is a safety hazard that needs to be repaired.

3 incidents: 1.needed to use the passing gear and the car kept accelerating with the pedal stuck to the floor. as i was about to go to neutral the pedal released. dealer diagnosis was to clean throttle body and fuel system at a cost of $160 2. a week later, during moderate acceleration entering an interstate on-ramp, it happened again. traffic was light so i let it go and eventually the pedal kicked back 3. in early may, did it again during light acceleration on a surface road, this time i was in heavy traffic. put car in neutral, turned to a side street to stop, put it in park and shut off engine. upon restart, it was ok returned car to dealer on may 9, left car for a week. they said 2 things, they agreed the floor carpets were not at fault and when one was available, they would put some sort of recorder device on the car that i would activate only when the problem occurred again. today is july 28, 2012 and they have not produced the device. occasionally, when road conditions are ok, i try to trigger the condition, but it has not happened again. i'm not a believer that mechanical things fix themselves i've seen multiple articles on the internet about similar problems with 2005-2006 mustangs and also ford recalls of other makes/models with similar problems regarding accelerator pedals and automatic speed control malfunctions causing rapid acceleration needless to say, i drive the car with much caution and a lot less enjoyment.

i was traveling down the highway and the speedometer went to 0 mph and has not worked properly since that time. my on-line research has revealed that this problem is quite common with this make and year of car and stems from ford installing substandard stepper motors on the instrument cluster gauge circuit boards. this is a safety issue in that i cannot gauge my road speed while moving down the highway. ford should be forced to recall these vehicles and make the necessary repairs since this is a safety issue and ford is aware of the problem.

the speedometer constantly malfunctions, which makes it impossible to know what speed you are traveling. the speedometer will either stick at zero or be 10 to 15 mph off. this is common problem based on personal experience with many other 2005 mustang v6 drivers. the problem requires the entire instrument panel to be replaced (~$500-800), and ford continues to give us all the run-around. a simple search online also returns numerous postings about this problem. not knowing the speed in which you are traveling is a very unsafe driving condition. please look into this matter promptly and issue a recall. thanks for your help on this matter.

the morning after a rain storm when pulling out of my driveway water started to pour in behind the glove box and passenger air big area and onto the floor. it was about 1 or 2 inches of water all together. after doing some research i found that the ford knows what the problem is and still has not done anything to fix it. it effects all ford mustangs from 2005 through 2008. they have a tsb 07-14-6 which describes the problem and states how to fix it.

my speedometer started acting erratic. it does not work at all now. the needle is stuck past 120 miles. now my oil, water & battery gauges do not work. asked my ford technician during my regular oil change and checkup about the problem and they stated that is was a sign my alternator was going out. i had my alternator changed, but it did not correct the problem and after that is when my other gauges quit working. since this is a problem with almost every one made during that year, you would believe that ford would not want to tarnish their name by not issuing a recall. i have always owned a ford, but my family has recently changed to different makes and i will definitely consider changing after this. this is a safety issue because if your gauges are not working, you could stall in traffic by running out of gas, overheating, engine lock up, etc. i need my car so i can make a living for my family and i do love my car, but i am considering getting rid of it because i am afraid something will happen while i am in traffic. this does not need to wait until people start having accidents or dying. with the economy the way it is today, most people cannot afford to get their car repaired or change cars so they are left with no choice but to take chances. if it was your family in the car and something happened in traffic, would a recall come any faster? i have noticed recalls in the news happening faster when someone dies, but i wonder how many complaints were received before that happened? i suppose it would happen faster if the news were to pick up the story of how many problems existed and were left unnoticed. thanks for looking into the problem, but please don't wait too long.

while driving on local road heard a noise from engine compartment, lost power steering, battery warning light came on and shortly after car stopped running. found accessory belt detached from pulley. found out from ford that this was the crankshaft pulley, and this is quite common on the 4.0 v6 engine.

my 16 yr old son was driving and the speed gauge started reading 90 then 60 then 100 also the temp gauge went into the red. he panicked that car was going to blow up and pulled off the highway at night to call to see what he should do. i find this to be very unsafe in both aspects of not knowing if the car could of caused an accident and also the fact of him being on the side of the highway at night. i have read of others having this same problem, this differently needs to be addressed before a major accident does happen. ford should be ashamed of this and offer a correction on this problem.

first thing that happened with my car was the two inches of water it started taking in every time it rains. then the rpm gauge and speedometer went; never can tell how fast i am going (real safe). next went the gas and temp gauges. now it rained again a few days ago (12/2012) and i have no working locks, windows, radio or headlights along with water in my floorboard. ford needs to fix these problems that the 2005 mustang has with it. these are not safe driving conditions and it looks like i am not the only one with these problems. i will not pay $3000 to fix their mistake. i will spend that money on a lawyer against ford before i pay for their mistake. they need to do a recall and fix this. i had to get my car towed last night because i had no headlights. the tow truck driver said that my car was the fourth mustang he had to tow that night!!!

i was driving at night at around 30mph when everything electrical went dead in my car including headlights and dashboard but the engine was still running. i was able to drive the car home but could not start it the next morning. had to flat bed it to the dealership where they told me the whole computer system failed and had to be replaced. this happened 3 more time since then. each time i was charged $3000 to have it replaced. it shouldn't happen once let alone 3 times. another recent problem, my engine caught fire causing everything on the left side of my car to be replaced. ford denied any "real problems they could find". also had my gas tank replaced twice because it wouldn't fill up. and to add to everything, my gearshift needs to be replaced because a little plastic piece that hides the holes when u shift up or down, broke. $600 estimate at ford. as well as my engine smoking after driving for 2 hours at 65-70 mph. do not buy a ford. iv'e spent over $12k fixing the problems that i never caused. ford refused to pay a dime or take any responsibility. too many problems causing unsafe situations for me as well as other drivers and pedestrians around me. ## vin failed ##

fuel gauge, speedometer and digital read out. comments: hello, i am having significant problems with the speedometer on my 2005 ford mustang v6. this is by no means an isolated problem. speedometer jumps to anywhere between 20 to 80 mph and remains at 20 to 80. i have seen it on every forum that i could find and in large numbers. i have noticed is it seems to be more prevalent when it is below 40f degrees outside. the same thing happened with the fuel gauge so i filled the tank, but the gas gauge still shows 1/4 tank. this is a safety issue and there needs to be resolve before someone gets hurt, if not already. i checked ford site, there are no recalls on this i'm surprised they haven't had a recall yet.

i was driving about 55mph and heard a beep, looked in the dash and saw the engine went into a "fail safe mode". the car slowed down and jerked and slowed down quite a bit. went to the dealership and could'nt find anything wrong w/ it. it started happening more often, so finally found a mechanic that was able to diagnose and fix the problem for $800. i saw in the paper that a few toyotas had this problem and wanted to let you know it happened on a new ford mustang as well. also, whenever it rains, (the same car) leaks water into and puddles up under the passenger's seat. this has been a problem from the beginning of purchase. i don't drive this car in the rain because of this. i have talked to other mustang owners at the oil change facility, and they said they have the same problem. i really don't understand why there has not been a coulpe of recalls on the 2005 mustang gt. i waited a long time to get my dream car and paid a lot of money for it. if i'm not the only one having this problem, i would think the ford company should take responsibilty and fix the problems.[xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

the instrument cluster on my 2005 ford mustang has a shortage or is defective. based on internet research and a discussion with an authorized ford dealership and my long time auto mechanic, this is a part that should not fail at 73,000 miles. while ford has not issued a recall, there is an obvious manufacture defect, as there have been numerous complaints and issues reported. when a gauge (fuel, temperature, battery, etc) fails on this vehicle, the entire instrument cluster must be replaced. this is a costly part and service fee (over $900) for something that should not be defective or have issues with a car of this age. when the instrument cluster signals an issue to the internal computer, the vehicle may go into a "fail safe mode" and the car will not operate. ford needs to issue a recall for this part and replace it at no cost to the owner.

all gauges stopped working. first speedometer, than the tact, gas gauge, and finally the hot/cold gauge. i don't know how fast i'm going and i don't know how much gas i have in my car. every time i drive my car it's a guessing game between gas and speed. ford needs to issue a recall before someone gets hurt or even worse killed because of this. if not a recall at least make the part cheaper so we can get it fixed instead of going to some make shift shop to get it repaired. $440.00 plus a $300.00 core is way to much for a cluster.

back in 2011 my thermo gauge showed car was over heating when it was not. i had vehicle looked at and there was no indication that car was running hot. this would happen occassionally not an everyday occurance. then this past winter it started it again and then my speedometer started showing that i was traveling at high rates of speed or would not work at all. the same thing happens with the gas gauge it works when it wants to. after doing some research i found out that i am not the only one with these problems. it seems to happen in states where weather becomes extremely cold and then when it warms back up everything works. this should be a recall.

my dates and mileage may be off. i purchased my mustang used at a local dealership with the warranty and extended warranty and about two months later my back wheels locked up on me. i pulled into the ford company and they took a look at it and unlocked the wheels charging me $70 saying it was not covered under the warranty. i was told by the tech that the emergency brake cable had froze up causing the tires to lock up. i was told that this was not covered by the warranty and it would cost by close to $600 to fix. the gentleman told me at that time to file a complaint with ford because it should be a recall. i did file that complaint back then and nothing ever became of it. i never had it fixed because i do not have $600 and therefore i do not use my e-brake which is dangerous! i have done some research and have found that others have the same issue with there car. this should be a recall.

my 2005 ford mustang temperature gauge read hot, into the red warning section. i drove it immediately to auburn ford. they kept the car for 4 hours and told me i needed a new thermostat. i had it replaced. the problem persisted and i went back twice. the ford dealership again said there was no problem and to ignore it. within a month my speedometer failed and said i was traveling at 120 mph when i was going approx. 55 mph. then the instrument gauges started to all give inaccurate information. to not know how fast you are driving, to not know if your car is over heating is dangerous. i have since learned that this problem is happening alot with other 2005 mustangs. why is this not being fixed by ford for free?? read "mustang monthly" on the web and see all the people experiencing this pragmatic and dangerous non recall issue. this should be a recall and shame on ford for charging me for something i did not need and the problem should not be ignored. this is my 4th ford but most likely my last! hope you do something about it.

the instrument gauges on my 2005 mustang gt started to fail. first the speedometer and then the fuel and temperature gauges. only the tachometer remains functional. this is a serious safety hazard as there is no way to accurately measure how fast your going. this can be a big issue on rain soaked, icy or otherwise hazardous highways where knowing your speed is crucial to safe operation of your vehicle. ford is obviously not standing behind their product and will not fix the problem without a recall, unless i pay up 1,000 dollars...then wait for the same thing to occur again. nhtsa has the power to issue the recall if safety is an issue. how can it not be? how many have to be maimed or injured before you issue the recall and demand that ford fix this problem?

was driving the car and the gas gauge started acting weird. stopped and filled up the car and after starting the car the gauge went all the way past 'e'. shortly after that the speedometer started sticking. i could be at a stop light and it would show i was going 20 mph. usually turning the car off and back on would get the speedometer to go down. the higher the speed said the more you had to turn it off and on since it only went down a little at a time. now the gauge is stuck at 80 mph and doesn't move at all. the tachometer is also messing up now. it will vary from being too low to being too high to being just right.

i was driving home. the road was wet. because of this, i relied on my speedometer to make sure i am going a bit slower than my speed limit. i did not noticed until i had to hit my brakes to avoid a stray dog. my car skidded; i was going faster than what the gauge was saying (which is lower than actual speed) since i had to stop abruptly, another car rear-ended me. ever since then, the gauge is all over the place, below 0 above one hundred...this could have cost another life, if not mine.

recently purchased 2005 ford mustang and was told upon sale that there was a problem with the fuel gauge. i figured it would be easy enough to fix so wasn't really concerned. now a week later i noticed the speedometer doesn't work as well. it sticks on 15 mph for periods of time or then will show at least 15 - 30 mph faster than i am actually going. i searched online for a fix and found thousands of threads of individuals with the exact same issue and even copies of letters sent to owner stating that there wasn't a recall because it's not a safety concern. i bought this car for my daughter. running out of gas late at night because her fuel gauge is broken is a safety issue. sure can she write down mileage every time she gets gas, yes. but after reading so many comments by so many people it seems as if this issue should be resolved by ford. seems to be isolated on the 2005 only. in addition not know your speed limit is also a safety concern and also a financial concern should you get pulled over having no idea how fast you are driving. its seems as if the entire cluster of gauges are faulty and need to be addressed. your response or help in getting ford to rectify is greatly appreciated.

our 2005 ford mustang v6 started showing no fuel on the gauge approximated in june of 2013. at first it was random but now it never shows gas in the tank even when the tank is full. we keep track of the miles and keep it filled because we have no gauge. as of march 2014 the car has a check engine light on and has started to stop when at intersections. it acts like it has no gas. it is frightening when your car is sitting in busy traffic and won't move. so far it has started up after a few tries. we are very concerned after reading other mustang owners have the same problem and ford has done nothing to recall or try to help owners fix this issue.

dash board gauge stepper motors are faulty resulting in no speed registered...no coolant temp registered..improper/no fuel level reading...incorrect/no r.p.m. readings... upon start up, the gauges go ,for lack of better word, crazy..or don't operate at all lots of ford mustang owners are experiencing this issue>>>> dangerous to not know the speed rpm fuel level and coolant temp.... could result in accident, vehicle damage...or worse!! ford needs to be advised to recall and fix this issue....

my speedometer was reading a lower speed than i was actually driving. it was confirmed with a speed radar sign. my speedometer gauge was off by 15 mph. i checked online and noticed there were many other owners with the same defect. i contacted ford regarding the issue and they told me there wasn't any recall for my car. i did some more research and found out the steppers in the cluster gauge have been known to go bad.

the instrument cluster on my 2005 mustang is failing. the rpm (tach) does not work at all. my temperature gauge does not work at all. my speedometer is starting to fail. i have researched and found this is a common problem w/ the 2005 mustangs, yet there is no recall. if my car overheats, i will never know it. when my speedometer finally fails, i will not know how fast i am going.

returning home from work, the engine stopped operating. i pulled onto the median and managed to bring my vehicle to a stop. the check engine light as well as other icons were lit up on the information panel which indicated there was still electrical power. after a couple of attempts the vehicle started and i proceeded on my way. traffic was heavy by this time. within the next mile or so the vehicle stalled an additional 4-5 times particularly when stopped at intersections. i managed to restart the vehicle and proceeded directly to the auto dealership since it was on my way.

i was driving down the road at the speed limit when all of a sudden the engine light came on and the car immediatly stalled. i had to pull over to the shoulder and put my hazards on so i didn't get hit from behind or cause a dangerous accident to the other motorists. i turned off the car, left the hazards on and waited a few minutes before starting it up again. it started thankfully and i was able to pull into a parking lot safely to avoid an accident. very frightening experience. eventually someone was able to come and help me get my car home. we believe that the incident had something to do with the defective throttle body, and throttle body sensor. ford should have recalled this problem and pay for their faulty parts. this car is a 2005 ford mustang convertible with a v6 engine.

my car shows erratic needle movement and gauges are reading over heat 0 miles per hour while moving and sticks at 120 mph after use and is parked. gas meter is off, odometer is off, it's very scary to drive and expensive. already dealt with the water leak issue form passenger side. cluster panel is broken i believe. bad dash board. hundreds of forums explain same issues on going years on new models. not safe or fair for ford to not address this death trap.

automatictransmission has trouble shifting into low gear. doesn't want to accelerate after stopping. sounds as if it is stuck in a gear. have read many complaints about this online and ford just claims it isn't their problem. also, all gauges quit working at approx 70,000 miles. fuel system is terrible. will not pump gas past half a tank and spits gas back out while pumping like its full. causes pump to constantly shut off. all of these are incredibly dangerous and makes this car unsafe to drive.

the car was coasting and then just completely turned off reducing steering and breaking ability at least 50% until i could come to a complete stop, turn off the ignition, then restart it again. since then this has happened at least 5 times, 4 in the last week! my totally trustworthy mechanic did a diagnostic test and found no failures besides the fact that the fuel gauge hasn't worked in years, the speedometer doesn't always tell me the speed, the gas tank shuts off before filling up, the head lights and interior lights have stayed on after turning off the car and hasn't turned off after it's rained. the rpm seems to be the problem for why the engine turns off when they are too low. there used to be a jerky problem during acceleration when the car would shoot forward then back off a couple times before returning to a more steady acceleration. i would consider this vehicle a complete lemon and threat to the safety of me and anybody else on the road but since the warranty period is over and it's been taken to a mechanic i don't have any other options besides reporting it to you, i really wish there was some way this problem could be solved and i'm certain many other owners of this same vehicle are dealing with the same problem.

in heavy city traffic, stepped on gas to accelerate, car would not go. kept giving gas would finally respond. did this several times in one day. next time we tried to drive it "engine safe mode" light came on and car would not accelerate at all. through research and talking to others determined that it is the throttle body (drive by wire) a known problem with some ford vehicles. talked to the ford dealer where we bought the car and the service person we spoke to told us it would be covered by ford's extended warranty in response to csp 13n03. took the car in today for appointment and they said it was not covered by that extended warranty and that consumer satisfaction program 13n03 did not pertain to a mustang. does not seem right to us that our car would not be covered when research has shown that mustang's have had the same problem and the same "drive by wire" system. we are left being responsible for over $500 in costs for this repair.

after the leaving the car turned off for approximately 1.5 hours my two teenage daughters, age 17 and 15, got in the car to drive home and noticed that the car smelled a little smoky. they drove down the road for about 5 minutes when the electrical panel went dead, then the power locks began to go up and down continuously and the smell of smoke became more prominent. at this point, they became very concerned that they were going to be locked in the car with smoke pouring out and not be able to get out of the car. so they pulled into a parking lot, immediately exited the car and called 911. as soon as they got out of the car, smoke began billowing out of both doors which were left open. 5 minutes after exiting the car, flames which reached two feet high, began coming out from under the glove compartment. a passerby obtained a fire extinguisher and tried to put out the flames, then the fire department arrived and proceeded to put out the fire completely. the fire department indicated that it was an electrical fire but were not able to determine the source. they indicated that they thought the vehicle was totaled, which was in fact the case. clearly, this was a very upsetting situation for our entire family. we feel blessed that the girls were able to get out in time, but also upset at the thought of what could have happened had they not acted immediately or were not in a position to do so.

the instrument cluster on my mustang began behaving erratically at about the time and mileage noted for a long time, the speedometer and tachometer would work for 30-45 minutes of driving (less when it was hot outside) then quit, however the gas and temperature gauges worked consistently until a few years later. in 2010 or thereabouts the other gauges quit working. the warning lights still work and the speedometer/tachometer come on feebly for a few minutes when you first start driving the car the gas and temperature gauges never change at all. i used the low fuel light for the last few years to tell when i needed gas and have had no idea how fast i was going most of the time. apparently this is so common there is a cottage industry providing a rebuild of the instrument cluster for these cars much more cheaply than ford. although my car is far out of warranty (254,000 miles and still running good) i thought it would help to report this issue since it appears to have happened to so many of these cars. otherwise a great car, bought a 2014 v6 mustang replacement.

after a light rain i noticed water dripping into the passenger side kick plate/glove box area. car would not start. had it towed to dealer. started next day and could not replicate problem. next day, same problem. water noticeable in passenger compartment. shook smart junction box and notice water leaking out. car started and stopped when sjb shaken. took to dealer. replaced sjb for $750. month later same issue, this time car shut off while driving on freeway in rain. loss of all control, electrical and power. could not restart. pounded on sjb and eventually started. got it back home. now brakes lights, turn signal, headlights, a/c and display panel not operating. i am surprised that someone has not been killed yet. in trying to solve this issue, it appears that the internet is fully of the same stories. sickening.

the speedometer on my ford saleen mustang 2005 recently has stopped working properly, the needle on the speedometer sits on 10 mph when idling, when i accelerate the needle is off by 10 mph, this is a safety issue, not knowing how fast you are traveling. i have looked up if there are any recalls available through the web and have only found similar issues on forums.
