2010 ford focus se driver's side floor mat is not properly and securely retained in position and may slide up and under the accelerator pedal causing "stuck" pedal condition. the retention system consists of 2 posts mounted in the carpet and 2 corresponding holes in the mat. most other cars use a metal hook in the carpet that clips to a hole in the mat. the focus mat retention posts in the carpet are not strong enough to hold the mat in position. the mat easily comes off the posts during exit of the vehicle and then migrates up the floor kick during future ingress and egress. there was no incident in my situation but today i had to pull the mat down when it had migrated up the floor kick to almost touching the pedal mounting frame. if the mat "rolled up", it could catch and hold the pedal and not release when the driver removes his foot. tw*

2010 ford focus-shocks appear to fail on front of vehicle with a loud noise on a moderate bump-some indicated loss of steering control-bottoms out completely this is an ongoing problem i wonder if i should park this thing.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

car engine kills while driving at all speeds without warning. this has happened 7 times in the last 23 days, the last time on interstate in the left at 60 mph. car will not start for some time after but will start but stall again. the last time it stalled while turning across a 6 lane intersection with oncoming traffic at highway speed. first events occurred at 174.5 miles on the odometer and was towed to the dealer. on the evening of 31 march 2010. car returned on evening of 8 april dealer stating the instrument cluster caused problem with the coded key making the car think it was an unauthorized key. new instrument cluster would not load into the computers, dealer stated they had to force the computer loading. car returned to me the afternoon 8 april and brought back to the dealer the afternoon of 9 april for same issue with 300 miles. dealer states he is working with the manufacture on programming a new computer as this might be the problem but they are unsure, have never seen this before in a new car. of the 23 days i have owned this car it has been in the shop for over 20 days. i have lost my trust in this car and feel there is something very wrong for it to stall while moving in 60 mph traffic or in the center of intersections.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

our 2010 automatic ford focus demonstrated problems with shifting gears at about 7,000 miles. once the car is warmed up it will not smoothly shift. this occurs while driving between 10-60 mph, and demonstrates major jerking when it finally does shift, with revving/increased rpms. this problem occurs everytime the car is driven. this is a major problem when entering a highway or a major road with traffic, since the car acceleration does not respond. the dealership said they are aware of the problem and if caught in time the computer is reprogrammed. at a certain point the reprogramming not longer works and the transmission needs major repair. the problem was not corrected with computer reprogramming, and is now in for major transmission repairs with 13,000 miles on it.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

while braking when coming to a complete stop, the engine starts revving very high. depending on whether or not the car is in gear, the car will move even when applying the brake as hard as possible. this is an intermittent problem, in fact a very infrequent one. car has been brought into dealer on two occasions re: this problem and no diagnosis has been obtained. the car has less than 1500 miles on it. eight separate incidents have been noted, approximately every 150 miles. the problem has only occurred when stopping, never while driving.

information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) i am wondering what action i can take next. i own a brand new 2010 ford focus purchased in feb 2010. the car has a terrible smell on the inside, i have taken it back to the dealer where i purchased it and all they did was spray something in the car and send us home. the smell is so bad that all i can do is back the car out of my garage open the doors and windows and after doing that for several hours a day i drive it back into my garage to sit. i can't drive my brand new ford anywhere because i get so sick from the smell. i have contacted the ford motor company about my problem and they sent me to tousley ford. tousley had my vehicle for a few days and believe the problem is the plastic parts inside the car, and claim they can't do anything about my "toxic" car. i am wondering who i can talk to get an answer and some help getting my vehicle replace by another 2010 ford focus that doesn't have a very bad smell in it. my husband and i get sick every time we get in the car to drive it down the road. the hotter the inside of the car gets the worse the smell. the dealership even took the carpet in the truck out to see but found nothing but a terrible smell. ford has admitted that they don't want to spray anything more inside the car because it will "mask" the smell it already has l. how many months does it take owning a vehicle that you can only drive out of your garage to air it out and can't drive it down the road cause you get sick. STEERING

driving with my family in my new ford focus 2010 and the steering wheel lock is like a stone, i could not turn either to the right or left. in the instrument panel appeared "assisted steering failure". fortunately for my passage by a quiet road and i stop. turn off and restart it and the failure disappeared, but listen to hum turn the steering wheel. take it to ford dealer and only reset the computer to delete the witness of fault and told me that is ready now. how can i drive safely after the lived?

i was not able to turn the ignition key in my 2010 ford focus {ses trim level} past halfway between the accessory and on positions, then could not turn it back to "full off" to remove key. ford has known about this since the 2000 model year, but has not issued a recall.

driving on highway 65 mph than i heard a loud boom and glass was all over me . the sun roof had shattered . pulled over very scared that i may have been cut. sunroof was vented open when this happened . dealership refuses to replace at their cost . had to report to insurance company. on my way to independent glass company at my expense ! 2010 ford focus 8700 miles.

my 2010 ford focus cannot be driven with the headrest in place. it pushes my head too far forward to an unnatural and painful posture. i know it's a safety item, but i had to remove it so it compromises rather than enhances safety. i would replace it with an aftermarket headrest with better design if i could find one.

mom and i was driving a rental. 2010 ford focus. earlier that day she was driving the car an complained it was wobbling when the steering wheel still. for me, at first when i was driving i thought it was the wind making the car wobble, but as i was driving down the highway and notice my back right tire rotation was very unusual (it just didn't feel right) so i slow down to feel the same reaction. when i did my car fishtailed into the median wall of the highway (smashing in the right side or driver side of the car) (when hitting the wall , the breaks and steering wheel locked up) and bounced me across to the left side of the highway hitting the metal rail that help me stop rolling, ended up with minor injuries, serious headaches, and a so called ticket of $130 failure to control my vehicle i don't know if ford focus function that way, but i will never advise anyone to ever get a ford!

2011 ford focus @ 1281 miles on 3/4/2011- windshield wiper blades not clearing windshield and lift off glass. wiper blades then broke off of wiper arm due to defective plastic clip attachment. drivers side blade partially detached while driving at highway speeds in heavy rain and became trapped under passenger blade disabling it. passenger blade had to be replaced due to cracking of plastic clip 1 week later @ 1587 miles. both blades were replaced at a ford dealership with non-defective parts at no cost to owner.

four weeks after i purchased my 2010 ford focus, i turned on the a/c and to my surprise the a/c never got cold. i had it running for 20 minutes but it never got cold. the next day called and took the car to be checked out, they kept it two days and had me come pick it up saying that they would have to investigate. the next day i got a call from fairfield ford saying that there was a object in the a/c and not covered by my warranty! when i bought the car in february it was still cold weather so never turned on the a/c when i did the test drive, never would think that a almost new car that is pre-owned would have a bad a/c system!! i truly think the a/c was bad and they knew it prior to selling the car to me. now having squeaks when i back out my garage in the mornings, recently had it checked and the say my back drums are no longer round and need to be resurfaced or replaced!! only have had this car 6 wks now and so far have two major problems with it, have notified the bbb about the a/c, guess now have to contact them about the brakes too.!

noises coming from transmission.....sounds like gears possibly grinding a bit? had dealer check out problem, said ford co. was aware of noises but may wait till further complaints come in. dealer told me to call or come back if gets worse..its getting worse. car is about 2 months old with 1800 miles on it, 4 speed auto tranny. noise is most prominent while going over bumps and accelerating and stopping and accelerating.

2010 ford focus was having rough idling while stopped and the car being on and on park. took it to the ford dealership because it's still under warranty, the supposedly checked and fixed it. it stopped doing that for a few days then it started back again within a week i took it back to the dealership. they kept the car for a day and a half and when they returned it they didn't say what was wrong with it they just cleaned out the throttle as per the paperwork the gave me. then about a week later i was driving on the freeway and the gas pedal (acceleration) stopped working and the wrench light came on! it's amazing how many people really don't pay attention on the freeway i almost got rearended. so i had to have it towed to the dealership at almost 10pm saturday night. come monday afternoon they wanted to release the car because they could not find anything wrong with it. i told them there is no way i am taking the car back. a car doesn't stop working in the middle of the freeway for no reason now come wed. still have not heard anything as of yet!!!!

i had similar problem as complaint filed odi10307817. i would have a loud noise like the car suspension was bottoming out when going over moderate bumps. i also had excessive tire wear on front tires at only 32000 miles, front tires had to be replaced. ford said they could not duplicate the problem of bottoming out after much complaining ford finally fixed everything but said the front end was out of alignment. when asked what was done to fix the problem was informed that the subframe had to be adjusted and because of that an alignment had to be performed. i even found on ford's website a service bulletin for there service technicians for the loud noise when bottoming out.

i bought a 2010 ford focus in october of last year. i have not had any problems untill now. i was driving up the road and my vehicle lost its power completly and the wrench light came on. the 3 things i have found common when this happens is that my rpms are at 1.5 trying to push to 2...the mph is about 45 to 50 and i had just filled up with gas a few days prior and was at approximately 3/4 tank full. i pull it over to park and it shakes violently. i have no power in the gas pedal. i turn the car off for a minute then try to start it up again and it takes a bit for it to turn over. then its running fine..that is untill it does it again. this week will be the 3rd time the dealer has my car to try and figure out what's wrong. they continue to tell me nothing.g is wrong and they arent picking up any codes. i asked them if they looked under the hood and they sd yes. they have gone to ford this time to find some kind of answer. this car doesn't even have 20k miles on.it. i bought it brand new. it is under full warranty thank goodness otherwise i would be screwed. *tt

tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford focus. the contact stated that the ignition wiring was exposed and would cause the third cylinder to misfire. the vehicle would also stall while driving 10 mph. the vehicle restarted immediately, but the contact had to continuously apply pressure to the accelerator pedal due to the loss of the third cylinder. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the wiring was chewed by a rodent, resulting in the stalling. the vehicle was repaired by replacing the exposed wiring. there was no recall for this failure. the manufacturer was notified, and stated that it was up to the dealer whether or not to repair the vehicle. the failure mileage was 25,000.

bought used 2010 ford focus in february. had no problem for the first 3 months of owning the vehicle, then all of a sudden i was having issues. the car started pulling to the right too much, took it to the dealership where i bought the car, they said its normal for the "slight" pulling to the right as it's the road and not the car (tire pressure was all in range), so they sent me home. this is an ongoing issue with no answer. two weeks after, i was having steering wheel problems. it would shake("rattle") when coming to a stop(breaking) and when i was driving over 45 mph. same dealership ran a diagnostic testing as well as test drive,found nothing was wrong, this has been an ongoing issue for 3 months with no fixes. i took it to a ford certified dealership, they found nothing that was causing the problem, nothing they can do to help me further. i am also having an a/c issue, it is not cooling at max and is emitting a foul odor after turning the vehicle on. dealership checked the cabin filters and cooling liquids, all was clean and full - offered to do a "spray" to try and eliminate the odor,but did not want to proceed with that option.. my biggest issue is with the car not accelerating when pressing gas pedal and also keeps rolling forward after applying breaks and when at a stop. this is a recent issue within the past month. i will press the brake pedal when coming to a stop, but have to push the brake pedal almost down to the floor to make it stop completely. i have had close-calls with running into the back of other vehicles in front of me because of this issue. also when i am at a complete stop, the car will unexpectedly "kick" and keep moving forward, thus causing me to have to put even more pressure on the brakes to make it stop. along side that issue is with my accelerator. i will apply the gas pedal and the car would not accelerate and will give a few kicks if i press it down on it more to make it accelerate. no fixes. ongoing issue over a month.

the incident occurred on 9/1/2011 at about 3:00 pm. traffic was light and weather was dry and sunny. we had been driving about 3 ½ to 4 hours when the problem began. while driving the posted speed limit in ohio on i-75 southbound just south of mile marker 99 the car started behaving like i was out of gas even though i had at least a half tank left. it started to stall as i pulled it to the shoulder of the road. as i got it stopped i noticed smoke/steam coming from under the hood. i attempted to open the hood latch inside the car but was unable to. my wife and i exited the car and went to the front where she noticed it was on fire. we immediately called 911 for help. the fire department and ohio state troopers arrived and attempted to put the fire out. the car was totally destroyed as the fire completely engulfed the car. the vehicle was never modified from stock and was maintained as required.

2010 ford focus driver's front brake pad completely worn away prior to 18,000 miles, took in for warranty coverage and told if the calipur was bad it would be replaced per warranty. ford tech stated caliper was sticking but i was over the 18,000 mile timeframe for maintenance issues. i contacted several independant brake companies and was told that there was no reason for the brakes to fail at that mileage and age. ford wanted to charge almost $500 for repair. took to another independant brake service place and was told that the caliper is sticking, had to replace driver's front brake pad as it was worn metal to metal and did damage to the rotor. no warning that brakes were going bad until the pad was completely worn away at which time i contacted ford and took it in. ford refused to recogize it was a defect.

the car bottoms out easily when driving on paved roads. if you hit a slight variation in the road, you have to slow way down or the car hits bottom. going over dirt roads or crossing railroad tracks requires a minimal, barely moving speed. the tire pressure is accurate. ford dealer tells me there is nothing wrong.

my 2010 ford focus was purchased on 3/10/2010. within the first week of ownership, the door locks were not working properly and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair. the problem repeated intermittently and the vehicle was taken back numerous time with the same complaint. today, after having dealt with working/non-working locks on the doors, especially the driver's door for more than a month, we got the same response, "we need to see the vehicle when the problem is occurring." how am i supposed to recreate the problem to suit their objection to making a repair? in checking further into this i found that this situation has existed since the 2000 ford focus. when is ford going to be made to fix this so that we do not end up pay out nearly $500 for a 4-door lock assembly replacement? enough is enough! in an accident, someone is not going to get out of the vehicle and if there is a fire, possibly none of the occupants will escape. ford is not willing to fix this. i think it is time that this safety matter was address by an agency that can make them deal with it once and for all. a ten year intermittent failure record is not a good one. it makes me wonder how many people have died or been injured dealing with locks that do not operate as expected? crawling over the center console to exit from the passenger's side of the vehicle is not practical for those of us who are elderly and/or disabled. i am both elderly and disabled. now what?

vehicle constantly "bottoms out" over minor pot holes in road or over speed bumps...if dip in freeway at freeway speeds the jolt will knock your teeth out. been to dealer and independent mechanics and all say that suspension system is intact and nothing bent or broken. it is horrible however to have to experience. the shocks must be horrible and not well built for the car. have had constant tire wear from poor alignment and again, it's the front suspension that does not hold. *js

i bought this car new with 182 miles on it. i had all of the service performed at the dealership where i bought it (all-star ford in palestine, tx), beginning with the oil changes. at the first oil change, i had the tires rotated. after that, i had them rotated at every other oil change (without exception) and at 18,940 miles, i am told that all four of the tires are "cupped" on the inside tread. all the dealership wants to do is sell me more tires and suggest that i have them rotated at every oil change. for a car that has less than 20,000 miles on it, this is unacceptable. my first reaction was to put it back into the showroom! right through the glass windows! but, i refrained. nonetheless, this is a design defect and should be corrected by the manufacturer. *js

on june 22, the mechanic's wrench appeared in the dashboard while sitting in idle with the gear shift in park. the ford manual states that the warning sign is related to the throttle/transmission. i turned the motor off and restarted the car and the mechanic's wrench went away. on june 25th, the mechanic's wrench appeared again while driving at about 30 mph and the car started to jerk. it was hard to keep it in the road. i dropped it off at the dealership and they said they could not find any codes registered in the computer system. they stated they could not find anything wrong and even checked on the ford website but could not find anything. i was told to bring it back if it happens again. this does not help because i know something is wrong or the light would not come on and the car would not act the way it had. i am afraid to drive the car in fear of having an accident. ford is not concerned about this safety issue. there should be a recall on this problem since i have seen many online complaints about this same issue. please don't wait until someone dies like the issue that loomed around the ford pinto that caught fire on impact due to where the gas tank was located. *jb

was driving in town and my information display notified me that the car had 50 miles left to empty. suddenly info display started dropping 1 or 2 miles every 10-30 seconds and went from 50 miles to 8 miles to e in less than 10 miles. i was lucky to be driving in town. if i had been on the interstate i could have run out of gas without enough warning and could have caused an accident. not sure if the display was inaccurate and i had more gas? for perspective: if info display shows that car is getting an average 35.4 mpg and holds 13.5 gallons, should get 477 miles per tank. i added 11.4 gallons, and info showed 441 miles to empty. 441/ 35.4mpg = 12.45 gallons should be in tank. 12.45 gallons - 11.4 added = 1.05 gallons left in tank at fill up, which should have shown = 37.17 miles to empty, not 8. i will keep and eye on this and see if it happens again. i will also keep track of mileage and calculate my mpg.

in medium/heavy rush hour traffic, the engine speed began to rise while the vehicle was coasting (foot off the accelerator) in 3rd gear. i shifted into neutral, applied the brakes and was able to avoid striking the car in front of me, but the engine speed continued to climb. a blip of the throttle eventually halted the engine speed rise and the rpms slowly returned to normal. the vehicle seemed to run normally for the following couple minutes and i was able to exit the freeway safely, stop and restart the car. after a quick examination, i found nothing in the driver's footwell that could've interfered with the pedal's operation. this is the second occurrence in which the vehicle has accelerated on its own volition. the first incident happened with cruise control engaged on a rural stretch of interstate. i stopped the vehicle by shifting into neutral, quickly pulling over to the shoulder and turning off the ignition. at the time i assumed it was a temporary malfunction with the cruise control system; the car acted normally after being restarted. during this most recent incident, however, the cruise control wasn't engaged at any time during the trip.

we have taken our car to the ford service center no less than six times because the interior door locks will not unlock (power locks). there is not a manual way to unlock the doors. our teenage daughter drives this vehicle and we are concerned for her well-being of being able to get out of the vehicle for any reason (accident, fire, and inconvenience). ford has claimed that nothing can be done and it's attributable to us living off of a dirt road and the car design does not include door weatherstripping. we are giving ford one last opportunity to correct before hiring an attorney. the car is still under warranty and has not been in any accidents.

engine speed began to climb while decelerating/coasting in 2nd gear between signaled intersections on hwy 25 in monticello, mn at about 4.30pm this afternoon. a minor collision was avoided by quickly shifting into neutral and firmly depressing the brake. the engine speed remained elevated (above 2000 rpms) for a few seconds after the vehicle came to a stop. ford customer care was last notified after a similar instance occurred with the vehicle about 4 weeks ago; i requested a return call from a customer service manager at that time but have yet to receive a response from the manufacturer.

this car was just purchased. parked car in driveway and the next morning my wife could not start the car. i called seller and he said to 'wiggle" steering wheel and car would start.wife could not accomplish this feat. i tried and with much force got the wheel to move and then car started. problem seems to be in steering wheel. this seems to be a real poor design. i am taking the car to : locksmith and then ford dealer to see what the "fix" actually is. have seen many complaints on this site and others.

i was driving with cruise control on at about 60 mph when the car suddenly began to lose speed and a wrench light came on. when i tried to accelerate, the car did not respond. i put on the hazard lights and the care "coasted" at 20 mph for 2 to 3 miles until i was able to pull off at a convenience store. i turned off the engine, was about ready to call a tow truck, and thought to restart the care again to see what would happen. the wrench light was off and i was able to make it to work with no problem. i am taking it into the ford dealership tomorrow; however, i have ready many on-line complaints about this same type of incident and i am skeptical that they will be able to solve the problem. needless to say, this will be the last ford product i purchase (i bought the car new).

first automatic power door lock problem: the passenger side door lock would not respond to fob, interior door lock opener or manual intervention. repair shop checked fuse, checked good. scheduled appointment for repair. started working again after i left the ford dealership. second automatic power door lock problem: 21649 miles. the passenger side rear door lock would not respond to fob, interior door lock opener or manual intervention. shop notes: customer states pass rear door will not unlock, service writer verified. happens when hot out, works when cool in the morning. failed door latch right rear, test verified pinpoint test lead to latch replaced right rear door lock latch assemble 901. third power door lock failure. mileage 49826, the driver side rear door lock would not respond to fob, interior door lock opener or manual intervention. 4/29/2013 returned to dealership, service writer verified, scheduled service appointment for 5/1/2013. this is a safety issue. if drivers door lock fails and driver needs emergency exit of vehicle, driver could not exit. we also own a 2010 ford fusion with approximately same mileage and had no problems with it. ford could re-engineer the 2010 focus power door locks like the ones they engineered for the 2010 fusion and replace all locks upon failure of first lock. i found 14 other reports of failures of power locks on the 2010 ford focus. i didn't report this until my third failure. i would thus assume for every reported failure, there are over 100 not reported, maybe more. this is a safety issue and needs additional action by the ford motor company.

the driver door ajar alarm switch suddenly thinks that the driver's door is always open. this is a safety issue because 1) the car leaves the dome and map lights on for a few minutes until they fade out, even while driving, which is hazardous at night and 2) the car will not automatically lock the doors when the car starts moving, and if i lock them myself they instantly unlock since the car thinks that the driver's door is open. i went to the ford dealer and they said that since i have over 36,000 miles they will not fix it under warranty. instead, it will be $182 for the parts and about $150 for the labor since the 2010 focus has had a lot of reports of this problem and ford has redesigned the door latch mechanism so you now have to replace five parts (door latch, door ajar switch, several rods and plates) instead of just the door ajar switch. the ford parts department manager said that i am not the first person to report this problem to them, but that ford has not issued a recall or technical service bulletin for this problem so it is my responsibility to pay for a fix. this just does not seem right. ford should recognize this as a safety issue and issue a recall for this item.

i bought this car in 2010. a few months later my children said they couldn't get out of the car even though i had opened my door. i tried to manualy unlock this door and was unable. i made an appointment to get it fixed but on arrival at ford service it had started working again. when it happened again i made the same appointment this time they saw the problem for themselves. they could not diagnose the problem but knew it was a safety issue and therefore changed the door actuator,latch and linkage.it worked for a while and then failed again along with two other doors. ford service department was stumped. they then change all the door actuators,latches and linkage still not knowing what happened. some more time passed and then an all door lock failure happed. same thing all locks stuck in lock position unable to unlock with keypad, interior doors switch or manually. with there hand in the air unable to find out what was wrong they put all new updated actuators, latches and linkage in all doors .this worked for a much longer period of time and just recently jammed in lock position again . i brought it to my salesman and he wrote a report and we got another appointment to get it fixed again .the day before i brought it in it started working again and like they always tell me ' it has to me malfunctioning in front of us ". this has been an on going problem since i bought this car . i have had serious issues regarding people not being able to get out in a medical condition situation and my locks were stuck .now my warranty is up in a few months and they have told me i will have to pay for parts and labor as soon as that happens again .i tried to get a warranty extension just on the locks and just until they figure out this ongoing safety issue but ford motor company wouldn't here of it even mocking my safety concerns on the phone .ford knows there is more to this problem!!

it's not just the mercury milan and ford escape having the throttle body sensor/assembly issue. i was driving down the 694 interstate in minnesota when my car went into limp mode and the wrench warning light appeared on my dash. i was able to find some shoulder and pull over, turn my car off and restart it and make it home. i brought it to automation in white bear lake, mn. the following day and spent $800 for the replacement of the throttle body in my ford focus ses. had it gone out 8500 miles sooner, it would have been covered under warranty. three days later, the same part on my wife's 2010 mercury milan premier went out and is being replaced today. luckily she purchased an extended warranty so all we have to pay for that one is $100, but what a coincidence, eh? i think not! i know you are investigating some ford autos from 2010 for this problem, but i think you better open it up to all ford products from 2010. thank you!

every morning when i start my car and begin to accelerate, the wrench icon will appear on the dashboard and i lose all control over acceleration. the car comes to a stop. if i restart car, it drives fine for the rest of the day until the next morning. i believe it is a throttle body sensor problem. this is not safe at all. especially with a child.

left front tires continue to wear excessively on the inside of the tread. i have had the alignment checked, and everything is within specifications. i rotated tires as shown in owner's manual. tires rotated front to back, back to front. the left front wears the inside of the tread; the tire on the left rear stops wearing, once placed on the back. also, upon movement, tire noise inside the vehicle is unacceptable, and this noise sounds loudest from the inside, front left of the vehicle (driver's side). at 25 mph, inside tire noise is 45 db. at 55 mph, inside tire noise is 85 db. radio is off: windows are closed. this is unacceptable. dealer says that it is not a warranty issue, and that i should align the car with every oil change, at 3000 miles: this is not what the owner's manual recommends. alignment shop says that alignment is within specifications, and provides a print-out showing the readings. vehicle tracks straight and turns appropriately. i will wear out the two left tires before 30,000 miles, while the right side tires show little wear for the mileage.

2/21/14 to whom it may concern, my name is [xxx]and i would like to raise an awareness to an issue that is reoccurring without any permanent solution. i set out in this endeavor to get a car in 2009 and needless to say the rocky road that had lead to this point in time has been rough. the car in question is the 2010 ford focus that i was told, at the time, would be a suitable vehicle to fit the required modifications i?d need fully operate a motor vehicle. the modifications that were made are as follows: 1. zero effort steering, 2. a hand control for acceleration and braking, 3. a backup steering pump in case the steering went out i would still have control of the vehicle, 4. a ?v? grip handle with counterweight on the steering wheel, 5, a pedal guard over the gas pedal. not but 6 months after the fresh install did it give me operating issues. the issue was that the stock pump is a light duty part and with the added stress of the additional backup steering pump it would make the main pump work too hard and allow air into the system. about 11 months later after this issue was ?resolved? it happened again, and 2 more times after the second incident in about the same time frame of every 11 months (almost a year but never quite exact) up until just recently when the steering system failing in early january(bringing the total to 4). there was a lot of back and forth ?he said, she said? in regards to the problem between ford, drive master, and the company that had installed the modifications (mc mobility). i would like to make the appropriate people aware of the incompatibility issue so that it does not happen to any future individuals and this combination is not recommended in any future circumstances [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

i was driving on the freeway when my focus suddenly lost power and speed despite my foot remaining on the gas pedal. i had to get over to the shoulder suddenly and narrowly missed being hit by a semi. the car would not start back up immediately and a check engine / wrench light appeared. i lost power several more times on my drive to work. it was a nightmare. the car would not accelerate beyond 55 anymore until fixed. it turned out that the throttle body assembly went on the car. it cost $700 to fix the issue despite the car having only 38,000 miles. this problem should not occur on a car with such low milage. this was a very dangerous problem!

i was traveling at highway speed with the cruise control set at approximately 70 mph when the tranismission/drive train warning light came on. it stayed for several seconds before turning off. i began to look for the next exit to get off and take a look. after another mile, the same light came on, only this time, the check engine light came on with it. the crusie control shut off and my car began to slow down and would barely accelerate when the gas pedal was pressed. the engine also started to run very roughly. i stopped on the side of the highway and had it towed to the nearest facility, thinking that it was a problem with the transmission. at the shop, they told me it was a defective throttle body. they discovered that the throttle body had been recalled on several other models of ford vehicles and called them. they were told that mine was not under the recall and not under warranty.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

i first started to notice a problem about 2 years after owning this car. bought it brand new from the dealership. one day after an oil change i was sitting at a stop light and the car felt like it was about to spudder and die out. i revved the engine and once i started to move it didn't seem to be an issue. i took it into ford and they told me it was the a/c unit circling on and that this was normal. i thought it was weird since this was not something that happened since day one, but instead started happening after 2 years of owning the car. i went back and forth with the dealership that there was definitely something wrong with the car. the guy that was working on my car told me at that point that he thought it was the throttle body and at that point it was still covered under my warranty but that if he were to replace it and there was nothing wrong with the one that came out of my car, i would be charged for it. so, being someone that doesn't have an extra $700 laying around, and believing the dealership, i chose to go on driving my car as it was. today was the most recent incident. i was driving down a very busy highway, going close to 60 when my car decided to turn off today. this has now happened 5, yes 5 times. the first time it happened i was slowly turning a corner and my car just died. completely died. check engine light came on, wrench light came on, and oil light came on. i pulled over to the side of the road and started my car again. how many complaints need to be filed before action is taken????? there is obviously a problem not only with the focus models but with all of fords throttle bodies! is this going to be another chrysler monstrosity?

while driving down the street i was a slight curve turning to the right and the car drifts while turn. it feels like the car is losing control. i keep replacing the tires but every few months i have this issue.

my husband, my daughter and i went shopping. we did our errands and my daughter got into the back seat. i proceeded to open the back door on the driver's side, and the door would not open. we left the store and drove home. i parked the car and my daughter was not able to open her door. both of the back doors would not open from either the inside or from the outside. she had to climb over the seat to get out of the car. my daughter is 44 and is a large woman. climbing over the seat in order to get out of the car is not acceptable, but we could think of no other way for her to get out. i live on social security and cannot afford to just go get the doors fixed. per the dealership, they think it's the actuator's in the door...but they're not sure. even if it is, the diagnostics and repair are close to a thousand dollars. i don't have this kind of money. per my online research, i have found others that also have the same problem. this is a "safety issue". people cannot afford to be locked in or out of their car. being locked in can be much worse because of the problems it can cause. i think this is a problem that needs to be looked at closely and ford needs to make the problem right. this is a serious "safety issue."

power cut off suddenly, and car had to be restarted multiple times to "limp home." the dealer diagnosed a problem with the throttle body and replaced it, but it was not covered under warrantee. i understand from the internet that several other models have been given an extended warrantee by ford for this problem, but not the focus yet.

similar to man of the complaints on this vehicle; it ended up being the throttle body issue. my mother-in-law was driving and it suddenly wouldn't accelerate. a car almost rear-ended her. she was able to coast to the side of the road. she noticed that the "wrench" light was on. she started it up and "limped" to the ford dealer. about $700 later, the throttle body was changed. there is only 30,000 miles on the vehicle and she bought it brand new. she is quite upset about having to pay for the repair, and i don't blame her. this should be part of the power train, or under the extended warranty coverage that was applied to some of the other ford and mercury vehicles that had the same throttle body issue. how many incidents or complaints does it need to take to have ford apply the same coverage to the focus? do they have to wait till people get badly hurt? this is ridiculous. please take care of it.

tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford focus. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle decelerated on its own and the check engine warning and maintenance wrench indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing, but was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 28,800.
