ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

vehicle equipped with myford touch system. system controls heating/defrosting system. this system has failed to operate properly on multiple occasions. ford motor company is aware of issue and has not corrected it. ford should not be allowed to market vehicles that do not have properly functioning heating/defrosting controls. these vehicles are dangerous and the issue is well know by internet searches. people rely on vehicles to operate properly in winter conditions. this needs to be addressed. thank you for your help.

ford has the check engine light, which they refer it to "check engine soon" that comes on. there is a defect with ford's capless fuel tank. something about this issue causes the check engine light to light up non-stop! i am concerned that down the line, there will be numerous issues with the capless systems. it does not appear durable and will cost hundreds out of the pocket of owners whose warranty will expire after 2-3 years!!!!!!!!!!! a search on the internet does show consumers who have problems with this type of system, but then again there are thousands of those who are not computer savvy!

driver: 83 year old woman... new auto: ford edge 2012, no injuries, vehicle damage approx $2000.00 no property damage..... problem: lady stepped on accelerator rather than brake.... reason: the brake pedal at rest is higher than the accelerator pedal at rest. the driver is used to an older (chrysler 2009) vehicle which there was not an appreciable difference in pedal height, stepped on the accelerator pedal, thinking she was stepping on the brake.... resolution: discussing the incident, the woman was seated in the ford edge and asked to see if she felt a difference in height of the brake vs accelerator pedals. she did, and has since practiced going between pedals, lifting her foot to access the brake, rather than merely sliding her foot to the left........ it is this writers opinion that many of the unexplained accidents where a person, especially when an elderly person is driving, has mistook the accelerator for the brake is due to the height of pedal difference. ................ it might be wise to make aware this problem to manufacturers and the public. ........ thanks

tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the front passenger side seat belt pinned the passenger to the seat if there was too much movement. the passenger had to disconnect the seat belt and reconnect it in order for the seat belt to function properly. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and the contact was informed that there was nothing they could because the seat belts were designed that way. the manufacturer was notified, but offered no assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 15,000.

purchased this car brand new. the transmission has been a problem from the start. driving under normal, dry conditions when throttle is decelerated and then a slight pause before acceleration the car slams hard into gear when you begin to throttle again. the first event the dealership "flashed the computer" and said that would fix it. the second incident has netted no results. the dealer had my car for 10 days without even looking at it claiming a lack of certified technician. they set an appointment for me on 7/30/2012 and by 8/9/12 had still not looked at my car.

car was in reverse, backing out of a garage. the power brakes failed although i was still able to stop the car by pressing hard on the pedal. it was as if the power-assist went out & pedal traveled all the way to the floor. problem repeated, again when in reverse and parallel parking, on 7/31. had the car checked at the ford dealer on 8/4 but they did not identify a problem. symptoms repeated on 8/10 while backing out of a parking space and on 8/19, also while backing out of a parking space. so far this has only happened at low speed while the car is in reverse, but i fear it will happen while driving at normal speed. this car is unsafe to drive. updated 3/5/14*cn

on 2 back to back occasions backing out of garage and down the driveway, which is rather steep, there was needed an extremely hard pressure on brake pedal to stop the car. it was like stopping a car without power brakes, like when the engine is off. once car was on flat road it braked normally. there is a similar complaint noted about this model year edge. updated 3/5/14*cn

at randon the driver door ajar light & warning will appear. this prevents doors from being locked while the key is in the ignition switch. door is secure and closed. warning light will sometimes come on while driving. i am concerned it presents a security issue while driving in some urban areas. ford dealership where i bought the car said that they had seen the problem before and, since it was outside the warranty period, would cost approx. $300.00 to repair.

i was driving down a steep hill (parking lot from work) this leads onto a busy avenue. when i pressed on the brakes i noticed my vehicle rolled onto the street,i could not stop. i quickly turned right. thank god there were no cars coming. however, had i not quickly turn, the car would have rolled right onto the center of the street and i would have gotten side swapped both ways. i could not pull over so i drove slow going under 10 mph and turned on to a road and pulled into a pharmacy parking lot in which i let the car roll into a parking space and i called the towing company and had it towed to the dealer i purchased it from. i was told yesterday that the brake booster failed. after asking what it was, i then asked why and how did it fail. they stated it was defected and things like this happen and that is why new cars have warranty's. they were waiting to receive the part so they can replace it. i'm not confident that my car is safe and i told them i had a 5 year old daughter and was concerned about the safety of the car. the dealer said they can't guarantee nothing else will happen, but that is why new cars are under warranty. i'm not confident anymore and ford should really begin recalling these brake boosters. i could have died. it was god watching over me that i'm unharmed. something needs to be done soon!

bad brakes (?brake boosters?) - i am extremely upset and amazed that my new 2012 ford edge, purchased one year earlier and only has 15,000 miles had a catastrophic brake failure. my wife had been driving the vehicle with my five (5) month old baby and discovered the vehicle would not stop. my wife almost crashed the vehicle; potentially injuring her and my newborn. believing it was maybe a random event, i searched google for ?ford edge brake failure? and i was astonished to find that this is a common occurrence. several blogs described different experiences with brake problems related to a brake ?booster?; people almost crashing. so i called a local dealer (greenway ford) and had my vehicle towed in for repair. i was advised by the salesperson that it was in fact the ?brake booster? and that he had seen three (3) recently at the dealership for this same issue. this is called a ?clue? that something is wrong with the part itself and ford is not being a responsible company and correcting the issue. apparently, the cost of a life is measured is outweighed by cost of a recall and what your company may lose in civil litigation. the dealer (greenway ford) is repairing the vehicle under warranty and after a day of not completing the job offered a free rental vehicle. the vehicle has now been at the dealership for two days. the dealer also noted that they have seen several vehicles with this same issue. also, several online blogs have documented the issue. it appears this is a know issue and ford has done nothing ? proactively ? to correct the issue.

POWER TRAIN

vehicle experiences extremely hard transmission shifts. when slowing down and going to speed back up, transmission appears to shift into wrong gear causing vehicle to bang hard then shift into correct gear to the point the entire vehicle shakes/feels like you were hit. vehicle also engages hard into 1st/2nd gear when coasting and reapplying gas. i have experienced the hard shift into gear issue multiple times (at least 10-15) and 1st/2nd gear engage bump everyday. this is a problem that continues to get worse and will probably lead to transmission failure.

my 2012 ford edge a year old and only 9,350 miles had a catastrophic brake failure while i was trying to go down steep hill. luckily that i realized the problem immediately so i did not hurt others or myself. i proceeded to consult a local mechanic and he stated that i have a booster issue and i should not drive my car. i have towed my car to the nearest dealer the following day (today). i have been waiting to hear from the dealer service advisor since 10 am and no one has contacted me. i finally decided to stay on hold so i can talk to him in person. i have been on hold more than 20 minutes. after searching on google i realized this is a recurring problem and ford never issued any warning to inform its customer of the potential life damaging situation. i am willing to bet that ford is aware of this issue but the cost of recall or notification is worth more than catastrophic human life loss due to brake failure.

have a 2012 ford edge sport with pirelli 22" scorpion zero tires which came stock on the vehicle. i have had 3 side wall blow outs causing tire failure. i do not understand why a recall has yet to be issued seems to be a problem with other vehicles with these tires.

brakes began to have a hard pedal when starting the vehicle a few weeks ago. had hard brake pedal that was not consistent at first, happened twice in two weeks but was less noticeable. vehicle became unsafe to drive today as the pedal would become difficult to push after first application of pedal (such as in stop and go traffic, etc.). the vehicle requires pushing the pedal with both feet to stop it even from low speed. the brakes are about 10% stopping power. i have never experienced anything so dangerous in a new vehicle.

after seeing the recent issues w/ the ford v6 ecoboost engine, i thought it wise to tell about the 2.0l ecoboost engine in my edge. after owning the vehicle less than a year, i was driving thru a neighborhood at a very slow pace, i started to make a right turn & the car simply died. no shaking, no warning. lost all power steering & engine compression. turned off, restarted & all was well. took to dealership the next week, if we cant replicate it we cant fix it. last month, my wife was turning right slowly into a parking lot & it happened again. this time ford kept the car for over a week trying to duplicate the issue, no luck. if we cant find it, we cant fix it. i was told it could be numerous things & no bulletins or fixes at this time. so my pregnant wife now drives a brand new vehicle that decides to die in traffic while turning, maybe in front of oncoming traffic,. i have read numerous complaints online about this same thing happening to other edge ecoboost vehicles, but alas no fix. in the recent articles i have been reading it says the 2.0l ecoboost engine has not been affected, i feel that is incorrect. i think ford needs to look into all ecoboost engines & find a fix now or replace the vehicle.

during the night on 9/25/2012, the windshield spontaneously cracked from the lower driver's side corner extending diagonally toward the center of the window. the window was replaced by the dealer. on 7/2/12 same type of crack appeared on driver side in new windshield. on 7/21/12, a similar crack appeared on passenger side extending from the lower corner and continuing toward the center of the window. these 3 spontaneous cracks from corners occurred in about one and a half years, all happening over night and from the corners.

my 14 month old, 2012 ford edge, has had numerous issues, some very serious! from the beginning, i have had issues with the sync system, the navigation system, and controlling the temperature. they have had to "update" my sync system more than once. i frequently get a "no key detected" message when driving. (push start system) the first time that happened i pulled off the road thinking it would stop running, and did $1400.00 in damage to the car. (coverage was denied by the wheel and tire protection plan.) later was told the car would not have stopped even if it didn't recognize that the key fob was in it. (a car-jackers dream!) i had a hole in my brake booster causing me to not have the benefit of power brakes. found this out when i stepped on my brakes and wasn't stopping. i had the really push on them to prevent hitting a car. the battery died in 14 months. the latest is that the vacuum seal in the capless fuel system had a bad o-ring causing fuel to leak and vapors to escape. i truly believe that this car is poorly made. i'm just waiting for the next issue to surface.

while driving on the freeway we noticed a gas smell coming through the air conditioner. when we stopped on an off ramp, smoke started to come through the air conditioning vent. we turned the car off and evacuated. within a few minutes the car was engulfed in flames. there is a recall on file that affects the fuel lines but it says ford claims that our vin isn't included in that batch.

on various dates, moving at various speeds (from pulling into or out of a parking spot to getting off the freeway) i began to notice that when applying the brakes, the edge would not slow down as it should. at times, i became afraid that the vehicle would rear-end another vehicle or i would hit someone in a cross walk. i had to press very hard on the brakes and even then, it was difficult to stop the vehicle. at first, i thought i was just being paranoid, but when this occurred 3 times in one day on 9/17/13, we brought the car into the local ford dealership to have them inspect it right away. later that night, a ford mechanic called and explained that the "brake booster" was defective and pressure was not being applied adequately to stop the car. we bought this vehicle new in april 2012. i see no reason why this part should have gone bad in just 1 year.

fuel leak 2012 ford edge, eco boost while driving my 2012 ford edge eco boost home from work on ca101 i noticed a fuel small in the cabin of the vehicle. by the time i arrived home (15 miles later) the fuel smell was overwhelming. once i parked the vehicle i got out of the car to inspect the vehicle i notice a trail of fuel behind the vehicle and could hear "liquid" draining from the engine section. a large pool of fuel formed on the ground under the engine section. in total at least ~4-6 gallons of fuel leaked on the road and my drive way. i notified my ford dealership, santa maria ford (888)-440-7149, of the problem they said there were no recalls on my particular vehicle (vin:[xxx]). as of 8:45 am pst, 10 oct 13 the car was being towed to santa maria ford for an inspection. at the time of the incident there was a significant amount of fuel in the engine section, there was definitely a potential for a fire. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

while driving the vehicle losses all power and a power train failure error message is displayed. the throttle becomes unresponsive and you cannot accelerate. when the car stops moving, the engine begins to shake violently and shuts itself off.

when stepping on the brakes to stop, it felt like the car would not stop and i would need to press harder to engage the brakes. if at a stop light with foot on brake for a period of time, the engine would stall. the problem was a leak in the brake booster, which because of my miles on the car over 36,000, it was not covered by warranty.

driving home on 78 from julian and heard a loud pop pulled over to the side of the road and saw that the sunroof over the back seat had exploded. luckily the grand kids weren't the back seat the glass stay intact. took the car to heller ford where we both it and explained what happened. they said they have never heard of this happening before, something must hit it and it is our responsibility to pay for it. we are waiting for the glass to come so poway glass can re place it. then we will see if ford is going to pay for it.

made 4 mile trip from home to church on christmas eve 2013 and upon arrival at church there was a profound smell of gasoline around the front of the vehicle which also permeated the passenger cabin. contacted the dealer the day after christmas to alert then of the incident. the response was that they had performed an inspection on 05 feb 2013 and found no problem and that there was no outstanding recall. i have a printed copy of the recall notice from ford dated 27 september 2013 and the information is also on the idriveonline.com website specifically associated with my vehicle.

driver seat warmer failed to turn off when pressing buttons on myford touch system, or by turning off climate all together. it remained activated on high setting for 35 minutes. seat warmers are suppose to turn off after 15 minutes. only got it to turn off by turning vehicle completely off while stopped at a red light. i felt the heat on my back side for approximately 1 hour after. this vehicle "passed" the ford certified pre-owned check list. what a huge disappointment.

on a sunday afternoon i noticed a fuel smell in my car as i drove it to the store. the smell of gas was especially strong when i had the heater on. upon arriving home i opened the hood and noticed a mist coming from behind the engine near the placement of the steering wheel. i took it into the dealership where they identified it as a cracked fuel line damper. fuel was leaking on to the engine and into the cabin. i searched online and noticed that the 2012 edge had been recalled previously for the same issue. when i brought this up to the service team member, the dealership indicated that my edge was manufactured after the dates covered by the recall. the repair cost $700 because i was a few thousand miles beyond the 36,000 warranty.

i purchased a 2012 ford edge used with 34,000 miles on it. at 39,000 miles i started receiving a "driver door ajar" warning even though the door was completely closed. having researched this online i am finding multiple reports on message boards regarding this problem. the estimated repair cost is $250-$400 and requires a dealer part, the door latch module, to fix this. some folks report spraying something like dw-40 relieved the symptom but i have had no such luck. i find that if i use a pen or small object and push the latch closed manually and then pulling the handle to "open" it the symptom will abate for a while but returns soon. the door latch is on national back order which should indicate the number of people experiencing this issue. the primary reason i feel this is a safety concern and not just poor craftsmanship is for one, every single time you leave a stopped position a chime goes off and the vehicle display throws up alerts telling the driver to park the car. this is both annoying and distracting. secondly, once the driver is sufficiently numb to the erroneous message if the door truly is ajar he/she will most likely ignore the fact.

the drivers door ajar stays on all the time. you can't tell if the door is really ajar or not? i've read many complaints online about this problem in ford vehicles including the edge. the door ajar switch is part of the door latch assy and is not easy to get to or cheap to repair.

the brakes began to make a hissing noise every time they were applied. the edge would die when sitting at stop lights and my brakes had to be pumped multiple times to get the vehicle to stop. the problem worsened and my "service info trac system" light would periodically come on. i have replaced the brake booster for 536.00 now to find out the master cylinder is also defective and must be replaced ...which is another 300.00..................i have had close calls trying to stop my car , especially if there's a hill. i am very very unhappy with ford and my edge at this point. ford should fix this crap under defects!!!!! no more fords for me ...this will be my last!

when the edge is stopped and the driver door is opened and then closed the door ajar warning remains on. this causes the inside light to remain on and the doors to not lock. when in a parking lot at night this causes a severe safety issue. i have to open and close the door 5 or 6 times before it will register the door is closed to allow the doors to be locked. there was one occasion the passenger door was open and closed then the driver door ajar warning came on, i had to find a place to park out of traffic to correct the issue. on one other occasion i was driving down the road and the door ajar warning came on and the interior light came on. i had to pull off the freeway to open and close the door until it registered it was closed again.

nhtsa, this has happened a few times and its a bit annoying. when driving, or even parked, the door ajar light would come on for the driver side door even though the door is firmly closed. once you reopen the door, and close it again, the light _may or may not_ turn off. this has not only affected me, and a close neighbor, however it also happened to a number of people as well. the fix, according to ford, is to clean the latch assembly and if it fails, then replace. however this is a costly repair and since it affects so many ford vehicles, we believe this should be looked at by the nhtsa.

the door sensor says the door is open and every time the vehicle stops or slows down, there is a beep and the sensor on the dash says to put the car into park .the door is not open yet the car says it is. it is dangerous because if the door really doesn't close we wouldn't really know. there is also an annoying beep that is constantly going on to alert us to the fact that the door is ajar, but it really isn't. it can be very distracting. after the car is off the indoor lights stay on because the car thinks the door is still open. this needs to be looked into and i believe should be recalled. i spoke with another owner and they have had the same problem!

backing out of my driveway and depressed the brake as i reach the bottom of my driveway and it was hard to press and didn't not stop my vehicle. i had to press really hard on the brake pedal to get it to stop. proceeded down the street, reach a stop sign and pressed the brake pedal and it, again didn't not want to stop. i had to pump the brakes and then the pedal went to the floor and began making a squealing/hissing sound then my vehicle stalled. restarted my vehicle and then it does the very same thing at the next stop sign i reached. drove back home in fear of a major braking failure causing an accident. researched the problem and discovered that there is a problem with the brake booster. called the dealership and was upset at the lack of urgency regarding this issue. already went through the fuel line recall and now this and this isn't even a recall, which should be after seeing the amount of incidents regarding the braking issue. this may be my first and last ford. very upset that ford has not created a recall on this very clear issue. man up, ford. this is a big issue!

some times during normal traffic the brake pedal feels hard to press and does not stop my vehicle. some other times the pedal feels spongy and without braking power. at the same time as pressing the pedal i could hear a hissing noise sometimes with a �teapot witssle� like sound. this is a known issue that should be resolved with the customer service program csp-13n03. however, my ford dealer in colombia south america says that although the vehicle shows all the symptoms and complies with the manufacture dates, the program is only applicable for ford customers in the us and not the rest of the world. this is a manufacturing defect that involves very sensible parts of the vehicle and should be addressed globally. remember lives are at stake.

driving from columbus, ohio to louisville, ky i was stuck in slow moving traffic due to an accident on interstate 71 at exit 14. while creeping along, my edge low oil pressure indicator light came on and the engine cut off leaving the vehicle without power - battery accessories; such as the radio still worked. best i can describe is similar to the oil pump 'burped'. i pulled into the emergency lane, placed the car in park, restarted the car, allowed to idle for a minute or so and pulled back into traffic. my concern is that the engine power shut down leaving me without power steering or accelerator power. had this happened at a higher speed, i think it would have been worse. i have driven the car for 3 days since this incident and no issues. i plan to take the vehicle to the dealer this week to see if indicator light memory can be reviewed.

when in drive, and door closed, door ajar indicator constantly dings. when contacting dealership, they ascknowledged its a known issue for this vehicle, yet ford doesn't deem it a safety issue, therefore won't recall it. it is a distraction, and door is unable to be locked when in drive, creating a safety issue. also, since the vehicle thinks the door is open, when in park and locked, interior lights will not go off, leading to battery drain. dealership wants to charge a diagnostic fee, before it will fix the problem when they know exactly what the issue is. of course the issue happened right after vehicle went over mileage warranty. door lock was already replaced within a month of vehicle purchase, and the second one went bad already. those only have 1000 mile warranty on replacement parts, ford is knowingly putting defective parts in the vehicles.

when i started the car, the driver door ajar alarm would not go off. i tried to open and shut the door, but the alarm stays on - which means that the lights inside the car stay on draining the battery. i took the car into a ford dealership in meridian, id and the cost for fixing this problem is $316.00. after looking at the internet for solutions, i discovered that this problem is very common. please consider a recall and make the ford corporation stand behind thier vehicles.

on multiple occasions starting in the beginning of the year my car started stalling and would just cut off in the middle of the street. it happened many times after that so i took it to my local firestone because my car was out of warranty. they suggested it may be bad gas and they did a throttle body flush. so between the flush and using mid grade gas from a different station it worked for about 1,000 miles then the problem started again. my car would shake and rev and on many times cut off in the middle of an intersection, thank god it never caused an accident especially with my 2yr old daughter being with me most of the time. i took it to ford dealer and after the $100 diagnostic they told me the throttle body was defective and ford had recalled many throttle bodies recently just not for my car yet and the throttle body is not part of the drive train so it's not covered. so i had to pay $600 that i really didnt have to get this issue corrected after paying over $500 late last year to fix the brake booster on a 2012 vehicle. i have had so many problems with this vehicle and this new throttle body issue is the last straw. i will never buy another ford product again.

the 2012 ford edge door sensor has gone bad in my car. nothing happened or changed, but have read 100's of incidents online about this issue. it starts when opening and closing the door, and the door sensor light will not turn off. you open and close the door 1-2 times and it goes off. no big deal. over time, you have to open and close 5-10 times to get the car to acknowledge that the door is shut. not long after that, the sensor will come on while driving for no reason. ultimate, will not go off at all. sounds like it's not a big deal until you realize that the interior lights will not shut off when the door sensor is on, the doors will not lock, and the alarm will not set. with having children in the back, they can open the doors on the highway at any time. not to mention not being able to lock your car doors in general is unsafe. also, this affects the battery because the lights won't shut off. ford has yet to recall this issue.

bought 2012 ford edge it only had 24,000 miles on it, after one month the brakes stopped responding when parking the car almost caused accident more than three times. also when pressing the break i could hear the hissing noise like there is air leak in the brakes. you would have to really push hard to stop the car. took the car to the dealer they said brake booster is bad and its on a backorder nationwide. this is a very serious issue that requires immediate attention.

in stop and go traffic at low speeds, the vehicle has stalled multiple times (11 times in the last year and a half). the most recent time in heavy, slow-moving construction traffic. car loses all power without warning. loss of power steering, very tight brakes, no acceleration possible and a low oil warning. i have to turn the car off and restart, this sometimes works, other times i have needed the car towed because it did not restart. this is a company car and it has been to the dealership multiple times, and only this last week was anything ever found to be wrong. all previous times the stalling could not be duplicated, and i was told either nothing was wrong with the car, they fixed a part they thought might be the problem, or i must have put in bad gas. after stalling a month ago, this past week a data recorder was attached and a defective oxygen sensor was found in the emissions system when the car stalled for the dealership. the oxygen sensor was replaced and they test drove the car. the stalling did not occur during their final test drives. i received the car back a week ago, only to have it stall three times within 10 miles two days ago. almost was re-ended by a semi-trailer truck this last time as i was in the middle of six lanes of traffic, and with no steering, was helpless to move. have stalled out in a gas station, rounding corners in intersections, at stop signs, driving down my street, and now four times on the highway during low speed traffic congestion. having the car towed to the dealership as i am too afraid to drive it. there are at least four other complaints about this issue on the nhtsa website, and it sounds like very similar to symptoms seen in the gm recalls. car stalls without warning in more and more dangerous situations. this issue needs to be addressed by the manufacturer because of its dangerously serious nature.

on multiple occasions while driving between the speeds of 25mph and 80mph on european roads/highways the car loses ability to accelerate regardless of pressure on gas pedal. i had to pull over, luckily avoiding cars and possible collisions. car displayed yellow wrench and "awd off" on left side display. once in safe area i turned off the car, waited for a few minutes and turned it back on without immediate incident. this happened a total of 7 times within a week, however, after contacting ford service stateside i was told to go to an italian ford dealership. however, i stopped at two ford service centers located in vicenza, italy and the mechanics will not touch my car due to the model not being sold anywhere in europe. the problem stopped up until this past week where it has happened again twice within 3 days at, luckily, low speeds and avoiding all cars/hazards. we will attempt to bring it to a local mechanic in hopes of getting the problem fixed as we are leaving for the states in less than a month due to military pcs orders.

i am having the same issues as hundreds of others have had and posted on the nhtsa site. the door ajar issue followed by the shift to park issue. i am curious with this many issues with the door latch failure, why isn't this a recall???? very annoying to try to have something nice only for it to fail at 2 years old. battery also went dead around 47000 miles and crashed my gps. approximately $900 to fix the three issues. this does not include the 4th issue with the back hatch not closing the first time we hit the button - this has been off and on since day 1 and i'm told yesterday that it looks like it is out of alignment and would need to go to the collision center for estimate on repair. not likely.

i was unable to come to a complete stop and hit a cone in nyc. after, it was extremely difficult to come to a complete stop. the car was able to slow down but it took time. i drove slow and away from others. the brakes were hard and made noise when i pushed down on the brakes. when i went to the dealer, they informed me that ford has an extended warranty on the part and i asked why wasn't the part recalled if it put me and my family in harms way. why wasn't i notified prior to losing full braking power? i am thankful that i noticed the problem right away and my family and i are safe. i have concerns for others who may be at a greater speed when the brakes fail or have to stop unexpectedly. in addition, my car has returned to the dealership for service several times for not locking into the park position. it is not safe and again, i have concerns for my family and others. can this car move if it isn't secured in the park position? i have voiced my concerns with ford but have been given the run around by everyone i have encountered. these are safety issues and no one seems to care. everyone is nice and apologizes but they need to take care of these safety concerns for their customers and for the general public.

the alert for 'driver door ajar' comes on and will not turn off, regardless of how many times and/or how hard/soft the door is closed. this causes the interior lights to stay on after the car is turned off. i am now driving around, ignoring the alert, which is dangerous because i could potentially be driving with a door that is not latched properly, which could result in a serious injury. thank god it is not the door that my son uses. i am hearing from every ford owner i've spoken to and all over the internet that this seems to be a problem in the majority of fords, so i think someone needs to look into a recall on this. thank you.

i recently purchased a 2012 ford edge. in nov. 2013 a warning started showing on the dash every time i close the door (either driver side doors or passenger side doors) that says door ajar. no matter how many times i close the door it still says it. if i ignore it and drive down the road another warning pops up that says shift into park. when these warnings are on the interior lights stay on as well. which could leave to a dead battery . these warnings going off every few minutes is very aggrevating and for me a little scary as well especially when u r driving down the road and it says warning shift into park.... is there any kind of recall for rhis problem or anything that can be done to fix this? i thought it would stop but after having the vehicle for 9 months it is still doing it. i have my grandbabies in the vehicle with me alot and to me whenever there is any kind of warning showing up that is a problem and could lead to something serious and should be taken care of by ford.

after one and a half months of driving my newly purchased 2012 ford edge sel, the brakes were hard and i literally had to strain my foot and legs to the pulp and give it all the pressure i could to get it to stop and to avoid hitting something or running into someone. it was the most horrible and stressful experience i ever had driving and especially since the car had been just purchased less than two months when this started happening. what a nightmare it was!!!!! the car is currently at the ford place being repaired and has been there since friday, july 11, 2014. they had to order a power booster and replace that and whatever else that was needed to make the brakes work properly. there is a lot they are not sharing with me and after reading other complaints and reports concerning this very same model, i can see why they are being so extremely vague with me when i ask questions. another issue is that the vehicle is supposed to be a fuel economy vehicle and even though it doesn't cost that much to re-fuel, it sure does need refueling more frequently than i ever expected. i only do local driving mostly to and from work or to the local neighborhood stores and so forth, and as soon as i accelerate, i can see the gas gauge just going down, down, down. i am beginning to think with all due respect that for a vehicle that cost as much as they sold it to me for, i may have purchased a lemon or the edge is just not all that it is cracked up to be. highly disappointed and extremely frustrated. now i can understand why i have heard that ford stands for fix or repair daily.

had this 2012 ford edge for a little over a month and then was backing out of parking space and brake pedal was very hard. had to stand on it to stop, didn't think suv was going to stop. did it 2 more times on way home (3 blocks). next day i made a service appt. but brakes worked fine during my regular driving. was going to cancel appt. thinking it was a fluke but then went out to get lunch and it did it again. very scary feeling! the dealership could not duplicate the problem and said there was nothing they could do until they could "feel it". i told them about the "brake vacum booster" problem on the internet and was told not to believe everything i read on internet. they kept suv overnight and next day brakes worked fine again so there was nothing they could do. i went to pick up suv the second evening and as i hit the brakes before i even pulled out of lot it did it again! i backed up and thought i was going to go thru dealership wall. service dept. was closed so salesman drove it back & forth on the lot. he was able to "feel it". i also gave them a print out of these brake vacuum booster problems. they kept suv again and said they would get on it 1st thing in am. again they could not duplicate the problem, after several phone calls they actually took it in the shop and tested brake vacuum booster. called me at 3:30 to tell me brake vacuum booster was bad and they had to order the part. my vacation started the next day and we planned on taking the edge on 10 hour drive. i had to get assertive and they took brake vacuum booster off of another edge versus giving me another suv to drive for a week. so far the brakes have worked fine. the manager told me they don't always have time to research these problems on the internet, i told him i did the research for them! i do love the edge and hope there are no more problems.

i was driving around 55 mph on the freeway and went to apply the brakes. the brake peddal went straight to the floor with minimal slowing of car. if i really needed to stop the car i would have been in an accident. i used the emergency brake to control car. went to dealer and they stated this was a common issue with ford edge with the power brake booster pump failing. this hazard could have resulted in a significant accident for me had it failed when i needed a immediate stop to car. i sent ford this same feedback today via the ford service feedback form. my car is sitting in the shop fo rmultiple weeks since the part is on national backorder. this tells me this issue is a trend in the car model and more proactive action should be taken by ford. makes me very concerned how close i was to a possible significant accident with possible injuries.

i purchased a 2012 edge sel used from a ford dealer with 28,900 miles on it in june. while on vacation with the family this month (july) was backing vehicle up and when i applied a significant amount of brake pedal pressure, the vehicle did not stop but only slowed. i then had to stomp on the brake to stop the vehicle and avoid hitting a parked car behind me. the issue got worse over the next two weeks, so i took it to a ford dealer who told me that it was a bad brake booster. they installed a "new" one under csp 13n02 and said it was "good-to-go". did not even get off the lot when i noticed there was still the same problem with the brakes. drove it back into the service area carefully. ford tech said the new brake booster they put on was bad as well! really? is anyone from ford doing audits on that vendor??? so now i have to wait until august 15th which is the estimated date of repair completion as the "new" brake booster is on back order nation wide. my car will now be sitting on the ford lot lmost as long as it was sitting in my garage. this is an immediate safety issue and needs to be addressed as such.

we have a 2012 ford edge purchased new. we've been having issues with power steering failure going on for about a month. the service center cannot make appropriate/reasonable repairs to our vehicle. it's been in their shop 3 times and still looses ps fluid rapidly. 1st time, they didn't have part. 2nd time, replaced high pressure line. 3rd time, replaced failed ps pump. vehicle still continues to leak ps fluid. the vehicle is unsafe to drive, and we are afraid loosing control of the vehicle and/or being stranded on the road. we can't afford the time and cost to have it in the shop every other week. the vehicle will soon be out of factory warranty and are afraid of this ongoing problem. we are very unsatisfied with ford's products and services. we don't know what to do at this point. nobody seems to be able to help us.

applied the brakes and i was not stopping the vehicle. i heard a hissing noise and the brake pedal was extremely stiff but i was unable to apply enough pedal force to actuate the brakes. i then pumped the brakes and the pedal almost went to the floor and the vehicle brakes applied but way too much and the car came to an abrupt stop. i took the car to a ford dealer and they said it was the brake booster. dealer drove car and determined it was unsafe to drive. ford regional said there was a program for the brake booster and that according to the ford tech team the car was safe to drive until a repair part could be located. this is not the case. the brakes do not work. both i and the dealer service staff agree that there is a major issue involving the brake booster making the car unsafe. car has been at dealer since 7/31/14. no parts available and car is undrivable. how this car passed fmvss 135 and 136 is beyond me.

july 31, 2014 - i ran a red light when the brakes on my 2012 edge failed. it felt as if there was zero pressure & the brake pedal sunk all the way to the floor. after pumping them, or really "standing" on the pedal, the car finally slowed down. after this incident, there was an audible "hiss" when the brakes were applied. i had noticed for several weeks prior to july 31st, my brakes felt "different". when pressure applied for push button start, they felt very stiff. at other times, when applying pressure to slow or stop completely, considerably more pressure was necessary than had been previously adequate. the next day (august 1st), our local ford service center confirmed that my model was under the extended warranty for the brake vacuum booster. however, the part is on back order & there is no eta for a new part. i expect my car to be there several weeks, if not months. why is this item not a national recall?! this is a serious, known, issue that could result in serious injury or death.

an irritating and distracting danger signal and display icon shows "driver door ajar" when in fact there is no problem. early this month this occurred intermittently and is now consistent and repetitive every time i drive the automobile. ford dealer service says this requires a $200 repair. this repair is too complex for me to complete. to silence the alarm one must look away from the roadway on several occasions to find the ok button.

alarm and dash icon warn driver to shift into park. i pull off the road and shift into park with no problem apparent in the shift or transmission. this alarm is recurrent mostly when moving on the roadway and occasionally when car is still. this problem according to the ford dealer is a defective switch in the shifter lever assembly. this is a $325 repair and too complex to complete myself. this issue is distracting to safe driving requiring finding the ok button or pulling off the roadway to shift the lever.

vehicle states "door ajar with all doors properly closed. complaint is ongoing. here is the issue. the interior lights are on and remain on until vehicle is going over 5mph in a forward gear. you totally lose visibility to back up. you cannot see anything to back up. it is difficult to seeing going forward to attain 5+ mph to turn off the interior lights. the problem is minimally annoying during daytime hours and is extremely dangerous at night. you are forced to back up totally blind. it is dangerous you could back over a pedestrian, a fixed object, or another car. ford took a reliable and simple process and created a difficult (and expensive) unreliable process and it is failing on several cars.

this has reoccurred 3 times in the last 3 weeks. the last time it happened, i was backing out of my driveway and the car started jerking, wouldn't accelerate and the wrench light came on. i turned the vehicle off, waited a couple of seconds, restarted it and it worked great. the time before i was going about 55 mph and the car did the same thing. i pulled over to the side of the road, turned it off and restarted and it worked great. i'm afraid to travel in the vehicle. the ford dealership said it's the electronic throttle body and will cost $400+/- to fix.

pulling out of parking space and noticed brakes felt different. not depressing to normal amount. pulled forward and when coming to stop sign again noticed the difference in the brake pedal movement but now also the vehicle did not stop as quickly as it used.to. it slowed but was never able to get it to a complete stop, seemed like it coasted to a stop. after driving a few miles brakes returned to normal. next day experienced the same thing except now the vehicle does not come to a complete stop, it coasts to a stop at all times now. also have to put extreme pressure to get the vehicle to begin to slow down, much less stop the car. research online shows many others experiencing the same problem. will be taking vehicle to dealership on next day off.

brakes were really hard to press to get car to stop. frequency of occurrence increased. key incident was difficulty stopping at stop sign when a family was crossing street in front of me. had to press really hard on brakes to stop. brought into dealer on 8/19/2014. told me it was issue with booster and part is on back order, so had to give me a rental car for 2-3 weeks (had premium warranty service). based on the number of problems i see on this site, when is ford going to issue a recall? we are talking brakes!!!!!!! does someone have to die or be injured before something is done?

brakes started becoming difficult to apply regardless of speed, etc. most often most difficult to apply after the car was shut off for a period of time. took the car to the dealer and they replaced the booster. service representative attempted to back the car out of the service bay the the booster failed. couldn't stop the car so he put it in drive and it lunged forward and hit a car lift, creasing the front bumper, before it stopped. attempted to replace the booster and the dealer said it "failed" in the box. number three booster was installed and it failed. master cylinder also failed. the dealer claims the new master cylinder and the fourth booster is working fine. car in the body shop getting the front bumper repaired. ford regional customer care representative was to call me and three days have passed without any response. no one care tell me ford has corrected anything. all they are doing is throwing parts with an attempt it will fix itself.

when attempting to accelerate after turning onto a state highway, the vehicle would not accelerate. it took 1-2 minutes to accelerate to 30 mph and the vehicle would not reach speeds above 30 mph. this was extremely dangerous as i was in traffic going 60-70 mph. the dealership replaced the high pressure fuel pump and the problem was repaired until the condition reappeared in august of 2014. the conditions were similar circumstances as the first failure. as i was pulling into traffic, the vehicle would not accelerate and took several minutes to get to 30-35 mph. the vehicle would not reach speeds above 30-35 mph and several cars had to swerve into the other lanes to avoid my vehicle. i took the vehicle to the dealership and once again the high pressure fuel pump had failed. with this being the second failure of the same part in a 30 month period of time creating a very dangerous driving situation, i felt i should report the incident.

i was driving 65 down the road and there was a thump, the car lost all speed control and costed to the edge of the road. the motor continued to run but made a sputtering sound while running. the display showed a yellow wrench and the display said to press ok. i had control of everything except for acceleration that i was aware of. i turned the car off and back on and it drove normally. i carried the car to the ford dealership and it took a week for this to happen to them. it came up as a throttle body fault and that is what has to be replaced. i google these symptoms on the intranet and these same issues popped up all over the place. this is a factory defect and i am glad i wasn't in busy traffic and didn't get hit by a transfer truck!!

the brakes have been acting funny for the last week and on 8/22/2014 upon pulling into my garage i almost drove thru the wall into my master bedroom. i contacted elk grove ford the local dealer and took my vehicle into them the next day. i explained to them that when pressing on the brake it was either really stiff and it acted as if the brake pedal did not want to press down or it would go all the way to the floor and it would make a hissing sound. this sound when the pedal would go all the way to the floor would sound like the air being let out of a baloon. sometimes you would have to pump on the brake to get the car to stop. when i told this to the service advisor he actually laughed at me. aproximately 2 hours later i was told my car was ready. i was like great what was wrong with my brakes? he stated "it is the brake booster pump and it is on national backorder, we have no idea of how long it is going to be. it may be a month and it may be 6 months." this is putting my life in jeapordy having to drive a car with faulty brakes.

while driving down the highway my vehicle suddenly flashed a message that said "awd manual turned off." i could not accelerate, nor could i brake. i was lucky that the cars behind me did not rear-end me. i was forced to coast off the side of the road and wait for the car to stop on its own. had i not had access to a shoulder on the road i would have been stranded in the middle of the highway. my mechanic stated they are replacing the throttle body.

tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford edge. the contact stated that the interior light and compass malfunctioned. the interior lights failed to turn off when the vehicle was shut off and door were closed. as a result, the failure caused the battery to be completely drained and the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 37,173.

while driving at 45mph, vehicle lost power to the extent that i had to pull over on the shoulder. a mechanic wrench light appeared on the dash. vehicle remained running but idle was very erratic. after ignition was turned off, i used a code reader and dtc "p2111" appeared on the reader (throttle body failure). after clearing the code, i restarted the vehicle and engine idle appeared normal. drove vehicle for 20 miles with no other abnomalies. during a brief review of ford recalls, tsb's, etc. i am finding that there are known issues with the throttle body on other models but for some reason not the edge.

vehicle stalled in the middle of a busy freeway. this incident happened after 45 minutes of normal driving with outside temperatures about mid 80's and a/c on minimal level. just before the incident i was driving at average speed of 65 mph when traffic gradually slowed down to around 20 mph. without warning vehicle lost engine power and lost power steering in the middle of the interstate highway. all warning lights came on but the radio and fan still on. i struggled with the steering wheel while other drivers passed me as the traffic begun to pick up speed again. i was lucky no one hit me and was able to coast to the median by signaling with my left arm extended outside the window. since it was a long weekend the local ford service shop was closed until tuesday. after two days of testing and checking ford service couldn't find anything wrong. they checked their database nationwide but no similar concerns were found. i ran the onboard diagnostics and everything is ok. the irony is that the vehicle was in the same local ford service shop eight days prior to this incident to address a recall and for a 30k miles maintenance check.

the door ajar warning indicates the door is open when the door is actually closed tight. if you slam the door hard, the warning clears sometimes but may come back on without the door being opened. this is a poor alarm system design. ford should take responsibility for the design and issue a recall. the original latch was replaced under warranty at about 30k miles.

the door ajar warning keeps on lighting up. we have to open and close the drivers door up to 20 times and sometimes the warning goes off and sometimes it does not. it is very annoying because if it doesn't turn off there is a beeping sound going on while you are driving asking you to pull aside and close the door again. it also affects while you are driving at night because the interior lights wont turn off and it makes it difficult to see where you are driving, specially if it's on reverse, or when you get out of the vehicle and put the alarm on, the interior lights keep on and am afraid it will affect my battery in the long run. we took it to service at the dealer but there is no recall yet and it costs around $418 to fix. i think it's a manufacture thing and ford should be responsible for this fix.
