FROM E-MAIL TO FEATHERLITE: I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2018 FEATHERLITE 1620-14 FROM BICKFORD FORD IN SNOHOMISH WASHINGTON. AFTER DRIVING 20 MILES HOME I PARKED THE TRAILER. A FEW DAYS LATER I STARTED LOOKING AT THE INTERNAL WIRING FOR THE DOME LIGHTS. THE FIRST THING I NOTICED WAS THE WIRING WAS LAYING ACROSS SHARP EDGES OF FRESHLY CUT ALUMINUM. THERE WAS NO PROTECTIVE SPLIT LOOM COVERING THE WIRING. THERE WAS ALSO NO ATTEMPT TO FEATHER DOWN THE RAZOR SHARP EDGES OF THE CUT ALUMINUM. THE QUESTION IS HOW LONG BEFORE THIS SHORTS OUT? NOW THAT YOU HAD MY ATTENTION I BEGAN LOOKING MORE CLOSELY AT YOU HOW POORLY THIS TRAILER WIRING WAS INSTALLED. I REMOVED THE BATTERY BOX FOR THE 'BREAK-AWAY' TRAILER BRAKES. AS I SUSPECTED THERE WAS A FRESHLY DRILLED PENETRATION IN THE TRAILER FRAME COMPLETE WITH RAZOR SHARP EDGES. THE BRAND NEW WIRES WERE ALREADY SHOWING SIGNS OF CHAFING. YOU MADE NO ATTEMPT TO DRESS DOWN THE SHARP EDGES NOR DID YOU INSTALL A PROTECTIVE GROMMET. EVENTUAL LOSS OF THE TRAILER BRAKES WAS NOT A POSSIBILITY BUT A PROBABILITY. YOUR BATTERY WAS NOT EVEN HOOKED UP TO THE TOW VEHICLE TO KEEP IT CHARGED WHILE IN USE I HAVE REPAIRED THE WIRING AT THE FRAME PENETRATION. NOW I NEED TO CLIMB UNDER THE TRAILER TO CORRECT THE OTHER END OF THE WIRING WHERE IT PROTRUDES FROM THE FRAME. THEN I GET TO REPAIR THE INTERNAL WIRING. YOU MADE NO ATTEMPT TO DRESS DOWN THE SHARP EDGES NOR DID YOU INSTALL A PROTECTIVE GROMMET. EVENTUAL LOSS OF THE TRAILER BRAKES WAS NOT A POSSIBILITY BUT A PROBABILITY. YOUR BATTERY WAS NOT EVEN HOOKED UP TO THE TOW VEHICLE TO KEEP IT CHARGED WHILE IN USE I HAVE REPAIRED THE WIRING AT THE FRAME PENETRATION. NOW I NEED TO CLIMB UNDER THE TRAILER TO CORRECT THE OTHER END OF THE WIRING WHERE IT PROTRUDES FROM THE FRAME. THEN I GET TO REPAIR THE INTERNAL WIRING. ATTACHED ARE PICTURES OF THE FORWARD FRAME PENETRATION AND CORRECTIONS THAT I MADE. YOU PEOPLE SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. A RECALL SHOULD BE MADE TO CORRECT THESE TRAILERS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE ALSO COPIED BICKFORD FORD TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE AWARE OF THE SITUATION.
