Defect Description:

STEERING

Potential Consequences:

I purchased the brand new 2023 Dynamax Europa 31SS on May 20 for the dealership. When driving it home on the highway I experienced loose steering controls, pulling to the right and the steering rod clunking inside the steering column. It was difficult to maintain my lane of travel especially when going over small bumps or negotiating bends in the road. The highway was a flat, paved two-lane divided road and it was dry, clear and there was no wind. I experienced a sudden strong pull to the right and the motorhome veered sharply towards the ditch while on a straight roadway. When I tried to correct the steering it was loose and unresponsive, then suddenly oversteered to the left. This caused the motorhome to rock from side to side and nearly roll over. Thankfully due to 16 years of law enforcement highway patrol experience and driver training I managed to gain control and slow the motorhome. This would have been a serious injury or fatality roll over. The vehicle cannot be safely driven in excess of 50 - 60 mph. A journeyman heavy duty mechanic did a brief inspection and immediately found a rear axle and frame issue. A test drive identified loose steering, inexplainable clunks within the steering mechanism and a strong pull to the right at low and highway speeds.
