THE SYSTEM IS CAUSING SAFETY ISSUES IN CONFUSING DRIVERS THINKING THAT THEY ARE LOOKING FOR THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, VAN SPEED CONTROL, OR EVEN THINKING THAT THE VEHICLE IS IN PARK WHEN ACTUALLY IN DRIVE. WITH OUR INCIDENT THE DRIVER THOUGHT THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK HOWEVER IT WAS IN DRIVE. THE DRIVER STARTED TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT STARTED MOVING FORWARD CAUSING A COLLISION TO ANOTHER VEHICLE WITHIN OUR GARAGE LODGING THE DRIVERS HEAD IN THE TOP PORTION OF THE DOOR AND LEG IN THE LOWER CAUSING INJURY NOT TO MENTION DAMAGE TO EACH VEHICLE INVOLVED. THE DAMAGE COMBINED TO FOR BOTH VEHICLES IS WELL OVER $2,000 FOR A MINOR COLLISION AND ALSO TWO SEPARATE COLLISION CLAIMS ON OUR AUTO POLICY. CHRYSLER IS CALLING IT A DIVER ERROR AFTER REPORTING IT TO THEM UNDER CLAIM #24280455. WE FEEL AND AFTER TALKING WITH OTHERS IN THE PUBLIC IN JUST THIS SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME THAT IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS OTHERS IN OUR AREA ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE HOWEVER NO ONE WAS INJURED OR IN A COLLISION FROM OTHERS THAT WE HAVE TALKED WITH THUS FAR. *TR [CMPL_TYPE] => IVOQ [POLICE_RPT_YN] => N [PURCH_DT] => [ORIG_OWNER_YN] => N [ANTI_BRAKES_YN] => N [CRUISE_CONT_YN] => N [NUM_CYLS] => 8 [DRIVE_TRAIN] => [FUEL_SYS] => [FUEL_TYPE] => GS [TRANS_TYPE] => [VEH_SPEED] => 8 [DOT] => [TIRE_SIZE] => [LOC_OF_TIRE] => [TIRE_FAIL_TYPE] => [ORIG_EQUIP_YN] => [MANUF_DT] => [SEAT_TYPE] => [RESTRAINT_TYPE] => [DEALER_NAME] => [DEALER_TEL] => [DEALER_CITY] => [DEALER_STATE] => [DEALER_ZIP] => [PROD_TYPE] => V [REPAIRED_YN] => [NICAR_FAILDATE] => 0000-00-00 [NICAR_DATEA] => [NICAR_LDATE] => [NICAR_PURCH_DT] => [NICAR_MANUF_DT] => [nicarid] => 0 ) [3] => Array ( [CMPLID] => 1033037 [ODINO] => 10559744 [MFR_NAME] => Chrysler Group LLC [MAKETXT] => DODGE [MODELTXT] => RAM 1500 [YEARTXT] => 2014 [CRASH] => N [FAILDATE] => 20140111 [FIRE] => N [INJURED] => 0 [DEATHS] => 0 [COMPDESC] => POWER TRAIN [CITY] => OAKDALE [STATE] => CT [VIN] => 1c6rr7gg4es [DATEA] => 20140113 [LDATE] => 20140113 [MILES] => 2300 [OCCURENCES] => 1 [CDESCR] => TRUCK WAS PARKED, WE EXITED THE TRUCK, I WAS GETTING BAGS OUT OF THE BACK SEAT AND A FRIEND WAS GETTING HIS TOOL BOX OUT OF THE BED AND WHEN HE LEANED IN THE TRUCK BEGAN TO ROLL. THE ALTERNATOR'S FUNCTION IS TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY ONCE IT'S BEEN USED TO START THE ENGINE. AND TO KEEP THE BATTERY CHARGED WHEN VARIOUS ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS ARE USED IN THE VEHICLE. THE ALTERNATOR DETERMINES HOW MUCH TO CHARGE THE BATTERY BY MEASURING THE REFERENCE VOLTAGE FROM THE BATTERY. IF THERE'S A PROBLEM WITH THE BATTERY WHERE THE REFERENCE VOLTAGE IS VERY LOW, THE ALTERNATOR WILL TRY TO RECHARGE THE BATTERY. THE ALTERNATOR ISN'T DESIGNED TO RECHARGE A DEAD BATTERY. IT'S INTENDED TO MAINTAIN THE CHARGE ON A GOOD BATTERY. WHEN THIS DOES HAPPEN, THE ALTERNATOR BEGINS TO RUN HOT, AND THIS IS WHAT KILLS THE ALTERNATOR. IT DID NOT RESTART AND RUN WELL IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER, BUT AFTER 3 TRIES I WAS ABLE TO KEEP IT RUNNING AND AFTER THAT IT BEGAN TO RUN SMOOTHLY FOR THE REMAINING SHORT DISTANCE TO MY HOME. I WAS WORRIED THAT IT MAY BE A LOOSE GAS CAP, SO I REMOVED THE CAP AND RE-INSTALLED IT. THEN LESS THAN A WEEK LATER, THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS DURING THE SAME OUTING. FIRST TIME WAS IN A PARKING LOT, AND THE SECOND TIME WAS IN A BUSY INTERSECTION. IN EACH CASE, I WAS ABLE TO RE-FIRE AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING AGAIN TWICE YESTERDAY. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RESTART THE MOTOR IT WILL JUST AUTOMATICALLY START RUNNING. THE TRUCK HAS DONE THIS ON ME SEVERAL TIMES AT LOW SPEED BUT FRI I WAS GETTING ON THE EXPRESSWAY AND WAS MOVING PRETTY FAST WHEN IT WAS JUST LIKE THE TRUCK HAD STALLED OUT IT WAS A GOOD THING THAT I STILL HAD THE ENTRANCE LANE TO SWING BACK IN AS A BIG TRUCK WENT BY. WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS PEDDLE IT WAS JUST LIKE IT HAD STARTED BACK. IT DID THIS ON ME 4 MORE TIMES WHILE ON MY WAY TO AND FROM WHERE I WAS GOING. I CALLED THE PLACE WHERE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND TRIED TO GET THEM TO LET ME STOP BY AND CHECK THE TRUCK BECAUSE I WAS ONLY ABOUT 5 MILES AWAY AND THE SERVICE MAN TOLD ME THEY WERE TO BUSY THAT HE HAD NO ONE TO CHECK IT OUT THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO SET ME UP AN APPOINTMENT WHICH HE DID FOR THIS COMING FRIDAY A WEEK FROM THE DAY THIS HAPPENED. WHEN IT STALLED WHEN I WAS GETTING ON THE EXPRESSWAY THIS REALLY SCARED ME WHEN I HAD TO SWING BACK INTO THE ENTRANCE LANE AS THE TRACTOR TRAILER WENT BY. TO ME THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHECKED IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE A RECALL NOTIFICATION ON THE RADIO FREQUENCY WHICH I TOLD THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT(JEFF) AN HE SAID HE DIDN'T THINK THIS WOULD CAUSE MY PROBLEM. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

we were driving our new truck (only 13 days old) and came up behind a car going 25mph in a 50mph zone. we slowly accelerated the truck to pass the vehicle. during this acceleration, we saw large amounts of white smoke coming from both tailpipes. then a brief single chime started from the instrument panel. because it was a new truck we didn't know what was happening and there was no safe place to pull over. we continued up the road and the chiming increased in frequency and white smoke began to come into the cab and from under the hood. we came to side road and immediately pulled over. we got out and the white smoke continued to bellow from under hood. after truck was turned off, the smoke slowly subsided. we towed the truck back to the dealer on a flatbed.

the new ram trucks use a dial like shifter that chrysler is calling the "rotary shifter" in which the driver uses to select the transmission position from park or drive. the system is causing safety issues in confusing drivers thinking that they are looking for the windshield wipers, van speed control, or even thinking that the vehicle is in park when actually in drive. with our incident the driver thought the vehicle was shifted into park however it was in drive. the driver started to get out of the vehicle when it started moving forward causing a collision to another vehicle within our garage lodging the drivers head in the top portion of the door and leg in the lower causing injury not to mention damage to each vehicle involved. the damage combined to for both vehicles is well over $2,000 for a minor collision and also two separate collision claims on our auto policy. chrysler is calling it a diver error after reporting it to them under claim #24280455. we feel and after talking with others in the public in just this short amount of time that it is a safety issue as others in our area are having the same issue however no one was injured or in a collision from others that we have talked with thus far.

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

on or about march 6 2014 when the truck sits over night or after about 5 hours when the motor and trans are cold , i notice a hesitation going from reverse to forward, this is a hesitation that is about 2-5 seconds, it seems that the motor is not getting enough air it seems like it wants to idle down. when this idle down it goes from the hesitation then like a idle air issue. with the hesitation from a low idle to idle that makes it go then i have to give this gas or try to since its a lot of electrical know. i am not sure. i live on a busy road and this is a issue that can affect my safety. i should not have to worry if it will go into drive. at this time this is a issue, i want to know when i put this into drive, it goes like it should this is a brand new truck.

on or about march 6 2014 when the truck sits over night or after about 5 hours when the motor and trans are cold , i notice a hesitation going from reverse to forward, this is a hesitation that is about 2-5 seconds, it seems that the motor is not getting enough air it seems like it wants to idle down. when this idle down it goes from the hesitation then like a idle air issue. with the hesitation from a low idle to idle that makes it go then i have to give this gas or try to since its a lot of electrical know. i am not sure. i live on a busy road and this is a issue that can affect my safety. i should not have to worry if it will go into drive. at this time this is a issue, i want to know when i put this into drive, it goes like it should this is a brand new truck.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

the lighting system (headlights) on my 2014 ram truck are dangerous to use at night. they are very dim and produce sub-standard lighting for safe driving. i am forced to use high beams during night driving. this is notably not safe for oncoming drivers, but it is the only option i have. after a quick internet search, this is a known problem with many chrysler, ram and jeep products.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

there is a continuous unknown electrical draw causing the battery to drain to the point the vehicle will not start. an electrical surge will cause the electric suspension to activate along with the console cluster after the vehicle has been turned off. the vehicle has been back to the dealership 6 times and neither the dealership or chrysler has a fix. the condition is getting worse and now there is a new issue affecting the electrical clutches in the transmission. i have requested a loaner vehicle until i can purchase a different vehicle i feel is safer. on april 3, 2014, the district chrysler representative denied the request. i believe this vehicle is unsafe for multiple possible reasons but especially concerned about he alternator. the alternator's function is to recharge the battery once it's been used to start the engine. and to keep the battery charged when various electrical systems are used in the vehicle. the alternator determines how much to charge the battery by measuring the reference voltage from the battery. if there's a problem with the battery where the reference voltage is very low, the alternator will try to recharge the battery. the alternator isn't designed to recharge a dead battery. it's intended to maintain the charge on a good battery. when this does happen, the alternator begins to run hot, and this is what kills the alternator. a dead battery while driving means no electric steering, no antilock brakes, no air bags, ect. i'm very concerned about the safety of this vehicle.

ENGINE

vehicle is a 4x4 ram 1500 express with 5.7 hemi and 8-speed transmission. i purchased it new. the first incident occurred at around 200 miles on the odometer, on the third day after i purchased the vehicle. it stalled when approaching a stop sign near my home. it did not restart and run well immediately thereafter, but after 3 tries i was able to keep it running and after that it began to run smoothly for the remaining short distance to my home. i was worried that it may be a loose gas cap, so i removed the cap and re-installed it. then less than a week later, the vehicle stalled again on 2 separate occasions during the same outing. first time was in a parking lot, and the second time was in a busy intersection. in each case, i was able to re-fire after a few attempts. the vehicle did the same thing again twice yesterday. today the vehicle stalled again near my home. every stall has been when slowing to stop or to make a turn. i do not feel comfortable with my family riding in a vehicle that stalls unexpectedly. it is an accident waiting to happen. i have contacted the dealer and have an appointment for a diagnostic test on this friday. the check engine light is not illuminated, and the dealer has already indicated during a phone conversation that it will be difficult to do much if there are no obd codes to read. i have contacted other dealers to inquire if other customers may be having a similar situation. none have heard of this issue in this model year.

WHEELS

i recently purchased a 2014 dodge ram 1500 4x4 truck that came equipped from the factory with 20 inch wheels. i have discovered that the spare is a factory 17 inch full sized wheel. i was advised by my local tire dealer that it would be highly dangerous to travel any distance with the a spare that differentiated that much in diameter and could infact cause damage to the vehicle which probably would not be covered by the factory warranty. when i inquired at the ram national customer center i basically got the run around. they did however give me a case number (24922683) their phone number is 866-726-4636. i believe this could cause a situation that could result in injury to an unsuspecting purchaser that was not aware of the wheel size difference and drove unkowiningly a great distance with the spare provided by the factory.

i wrote a prior complaint regarding the air bags. i had taken the truck in 7 times. after i received an email back stating the case was closed, i was upset. i contacted chrysler one more time, and they apologized and reimbursed me for most of the repairs. in the end, i was pleased that they recognized the problem and were willing to rectify the situation..

driving the vehicle at night with both headlights and fog (driving) lights on does not provide enough illumination for safe travel. my wife and i both noticed several times that you cannot see at night when there is any wet pavement surrounding this vehicle. on the highway at 55 mph you cannot see your lights on the pavement (scary!). in addition, i drove the vehicle multiple times at night and found it extremely difficult to navigate with the stock lighting supplied by dodge with this vehicle. i replaced the stock system with an aftermarket hid system to correct the defect at considerable personal expense. i would have expected dodge to supply a vehicle of this type with proper lighting technology. please see prior model years complaints. dodge refuses to correct this defect even though multiple safety complaints been made regarding it. also check dodge truck forums and you will see there are multiple complaints regarding stock lighting systems on ram vehicles.

my 2014 dodge ram hemi truck is like the motor is just stalling out it looses all power and slows down. you do not have to restart the motor it will just automatically start running. the truck has done this on me several times at low speed but fri i was getting on the expressway and was moving pretty fast when it was just like the truck had stalled out it was a good thing that i still had the entrance lane to swing back in as a big truck went by. when i let off the gas peddle it was just like it had started back. it did this on me 4 more times while on my way to and from where i was going. i called the place where i bought the truck and tried to get them to let me stop by and check the truck because i was only about 5 miles away and the service man told me they were to busy that he had no one to check it out that he would have to set me up an appointment which he did for this coming friday a week from the day this happened. when it stalled when i was getting on the expressway this really scared me when i had to swing back into the entrance lane as the tractor trailer went by. to me this was something that should have been checked immediately. i have a recall notification on the radio frequency which i told the service manager about(jeff) an he said he didn't think this would cause my problem.
