while looking at the vehicle at a dealer, the hachback door opens too fast until slamming to the end and it bumped a little up and down when completly open, it appears the two little shock absorbers or whatever they are called do not help the door to open slow. i noticed the body of the car on the sides (betwen the windows and the roof at the level where the hinges are) there was a little line and it was bent to the outside a little and it was about two inches long on each side. i told the sales people in case they sale the car without fixing it. *jb

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL

i have a new 2005 dodge magnum which is a new car. the car has the 5.7l hemi motor. on 6-7-04, my wife cranked the car and put it in reverse. she then depressed the accelerator and the engine did not respond with any rpm change until the accelerator pedal was depresssed in excess of 50%. when the engine did respond, it was violent, causing the car to spin tires and accelerate backward at a high rate of speed, hitting another car in our driveway. this has happened about 6 times and actually happened while the insurance appraiser was in the car. his report says that "there is an apparant mechanical problem with the car that needs definant attention". i notified the dealer and i have notified dodge 4 times, 3 of which are emails with confirming responses. the last email dated 6/24 said that i would be contacted by daimlerchryslers with a decision. i have had no other response and i cannot get anyone from chrylers to talk to me. chrysler sent someone to look at the car 2 weeks ago, but i have had no response from them. the dealer could not repeat the problem and said that they would not replace any parts without recreation of the incident. i would think that chrysler would take this matter seriously since it is a new model car. i have posted this problem on a dodge talk forum and am finding additional people with very similar problems. i had asked the dealer that i would like for dodge to replace the car which was only about a week old with 700 miles on it and also to repair the other damaged vehicles. i have been very patient with the matter but feel that i am getting no response from dodge. please help if possible. thanks, mel phillips. *ak

since the first time i drove my 2005 dodge magnum, it has pulled to the right. the dealer and manufacturer say that they all do that and it is an engineering problem and they can't figure it out nor can they fix it. the car comes up to specs on the alignment and everything is supposedly fine, but it continues to pull to the right.*ak

driver's side front tire blew out completely at 70 mph. consumer did not lose control of vehicle since it had traction control. this occurred without no warning considering that the tire only had 700 miles. manufacturer was notified, but the cause was undetermined. *ak

my 2005 magnum rt has had a right pull problem since it was purchased. i've taken the vehicle to 3 different dealers to have it fixed. now it is a mild pull but i'm experiencing uneven tire wear. the dealerships have worked hard to correct the problem but daimler chrysler is denying that it is a problem. there are hundreds of us that have this problem all through the magnum internet forums and nobody has gotten dodge to fix the issue. the vehicle is especially crown sensitive and will run off of the road if you dont keep both hands firmly on the wheel. my car still does not drive straight and the dealer says it is "in spec" and they act as if i'm stupid. the dodge 1800 number people are useless and only try to send you back to the dealership.*ak

car purchase in late october/early november 2004. as of now it has 3800 miles on it. december 18th, the car breaks down after driving through some body of water (a big puddle) on a publicly maintained road. my wife checked with a couple authorities and they confirmed that this is publicly maintained and no special vehicle is needed to drive down it. (note: no water got into the inside of the car? not like it was driven into a lake or anything weird like that). the car was towed to the dealership where purchased (century dodge in mount airy, md). they gave me a rental car. after about three weeks (jan 4 maybe), the dealer determined that water had gotten into the engine and blew it (hydro locked i believe). at this point they said they needed an expert from dodge to come in and evaluate whether or not this was a warranty or insurance issue. a few days after that, the expert said that this was not covered and that insurance needed to be brought in to cover damages. on about january 14th, the dealership called and said that insurance would cover the damages and they needed to order a new engine. they also said they could not pay for the rental anymore, but they did give me a dealership loaner. as of today, i still have the loaner and do not have my car. they said that they are waiting for an engine to be built and shipped to the dealer. then that will be installed. *jb

headlights and dash lights make substantial flicker/pulse while driving after the vehicle sits for several hours (all day at work or overnight). the flicker/pulse is noticeable enough that two vehicles i was following have pulled over to let me pass and i get many strange looks from other drivers. vehicle was examined at selling dealer on 2/15/05, work order states "vehicle appears to be operating within design spec's at this time." this safety defect still exists. also, tires flat spot after same time as stated above. for the first 3-4 miles, at speeds greater than 45 mph, tires make thumping noise and car shakes. shaking is felt through seat and steering wheel. after 3-4 miles, thump and shake gradually disappear. tire dealer has not answered questions regarding replacement through continental after one visit and later phone call. *nm

my 2005 dodge magnum has pulled to the right since day one. i have had it to the dealer 3 times and twice they told me that the magnum is designed to pull to the right as a safety feature to keep you from going into the left lane in an emergency, ie passing out etc. i have that statement in writing on the second service order. dodge will not take any action. *ak

the transmission in my 2005 dodge magnum has stuttered, clunked, vibrated, and surged since the 3rd week i had it. it has been in the shop 3 times for a total of 15 days so far for this problem. my dealer called star hotline and were told that there is no flash for this problem, and that i need to drive more aggressively (like i can drive 80 in a 35 mph zone!) or just live with it. the dealer and the manufacturer have told me they cannot help me. it has also been realigned once for pulling to the right, and now it is pulling to the right again. i will be making another appointment with the dealer to have this looked at.*ak

my 2005 dodge magnum r/t experiences alignment issues with the vehicle pulling to the right. while the manufacturer claims it is "within spec" the dealership does not deny the problem exists. i have visited the dealership twice regarding the issue and will most likely go back a third time. i am aware of a tsb that is out regarding this issue, however i feel dealerships may not have all the information or choose not to perform the necessary work to fix this obviously widespread flaw.

upon driving the vehicle horn and the air conditioning became inoperable. took the vehicle to the dealer, and they replaced the fuse. then, horn and air conditioning failed again. consumer took the vehicle back to the dealer. they could not find the problem. they put a higher voltage fuse in the vehicle, which made the cd player and the battery become inoperable. consumer has to jump the vehicle to get it started. *ak

backing from parked position, put car in reverse, needed to correct, put car back in drive, drove forward, put car back in reverse gear and car appeared to operate as if in neutral. neutral was also neutral. rolled forward, could not accelerate. moved car from park to reverse several times with no change. when i was rolled up to the parking block, i waited a few minutes and tried again and reverse worked. also had electrical issues, such as turning off the blinker manually, but the blinker stayed flashing. *ak

repeated failures of the wiring harness related to the interior tempature controls, the wiring continues to melt within 5 miles of each repair. the vehicle is now waiting for the fourth service appointment to again attempt to repair or replace this wiring harness, i am fearful of having a fire start in the interior of this vehicle. i have also been seeing "airbag failure" warning lights, i do not know if these items are related, i do not know if this can cause unexpected deployment of the airbag system. the vehicle also has harsh and or premature shifting while driving.*ak

2005, dodge magnum rt, 3800 miles. struck tire tread debris on roadway. broke vehicle fuel line adjacent to exhaust system. vehicle immediately disabled due to engine stoppage. raw fuel spilled on ground. no fire. fuel system is primarily metal with exception of plastic connector at rear where fuel tank joins system. connection needs deflector or guard of some sort if not total redesigned to avoid failure with fuel leak and fire hazard. *ak

while slowing down to turn (3 times) and driving over dipps in the road with the cruise control set at 60mph rpms suddenly drop and engine goes dead without any warning lights or anything. the steering wheel becomes almost locked and vehicle cannot be controled. these incidents were reported to the dealership, diamond dodge in bastrop, la and there only explanation for the problem that they acknowledged as existing was to flash the computer. the service technician said he thought it might solve the problem but wasn't sure. it did it again the very next day! my magnum also pulls to the right and sometimes is a fight to keep on the road.

i have severe outside shoulder wear on both front tires of my 2005 dodge magnum, vin [xxx], more on the driver's side than the passenger. chrysler has replaced the tires once, and aligned four times, but the problem still comes back within 600 miles. without rotating, my tires would only last about 8000 miles. the car also exhibits enough steering wheel "feedback" on road seems to cause loss of control to anyone "new" to driving this car. the chrysler district representative has driven this car and claims this is normal. i do not agree! he also claims that severe vibration at various highway speeds and braking conditions is normal. in heavy highway traffic, light braking will make it difficult to stay in my proper lane. once again, i cannot agree with chrysler. thank you, [xxx] ps - i retained two of the original tires that were on the car when delivered. these were replaced by tires i purchased from the dealer. *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

air conditioning/ventilation system shut down. extreme heat behind the ac control panel, determined by touch, and ac system shutdown as well as the ventilation/fan system. tried to correct by shutting the system off, trying both automatic and manual settings, but did not work. even with the ac off the fan/ventilation system would not work either.only after turning the car off would the system work again. it must reset an overheat sensor someplace. dealer took the panel apart and inspected all wiring and found nothing. still doesn't explain this failure occurring twice in 10 months.

we bought our 2005 magnum rt, may 11, 2005. as we drove out of the dealership the salesman punched the trip meter and a mileage difference showed up between the paperwork (25 miles) and the odometer (236 miles). on our test drive we discovered that the handle on the adjustable steering wheel was broken. dodge ordered the part and i returned two days later to pick it up. it was not in, but had the salesman drive the car due to a feeling of pulling to the right and a steering vibration. he felt nothing. the next week, i took the car in to see if the steering wheel part was in and they advised me that the whole shroud had to be replaced. they did that and the steering wheel still did not adjust. the next monday they replaced the whole steering column which fixed the adjustment. they also balanced the tires and aligned the front end in a attempt to fix the steering problems. that did not work . i took the car in june the 1st to have a kit installed to stop the vehicle from pulling to the right. that did not work. so they kept the car and are installing a new rack in the steering mechanism. now they have kept it a third day. i don't think the dealer knows how to fix the problem. many others are experiencing the same types of problems as www.dodgeforum.com shows. i feel that this car is still experimental and probably should not be on the road. my car has only 1,800 miles on it. it may be a little early to complain, but i feel that this car is unsafe and that someone is going to get killed before chyrsler comes with a fix. my wife drives 80 miles round trip to work a day. i think the front end problems should be investigated. i am also wondering if i bought a car that was a lemon that was bought back and then resold.

2005 dodge magnum [xxx], ordered 30 jun 2004, assembled 26-27 august 2004 in brampton, ontario; delivered to purchaser 17 sep 2004. liftgate fails to open due to a failure of the electronic release. only alternative method to release the liftgate lock is to crawl into the rear of the vehicle, remove an access panel over the locking mechanism and release the lock manually. i notified dodge via their web site (20 sep 2004) and was told to take the vehicle to my dealer to have the problem fixed. i tried to explain, in 7 subsequent emails, that the problem is not so much with the failure of the electronic locking mechanism, but with the fact that dodge would release for public sale a vehicle with such a poorly engineered backup system for accessing the rear compartment via the liftgate in the event of a liftgate latch failure. according to the dealer service writer, there is a failure of the ground wire to the latch mechanism. this sometimes results in the failure of the right-rear passenger door to open as well, although i have not experienced this part of the problem. dodgeland, usa apparently has a technician who has diagnosed and repaired the problem on at least three (3) other magnums in las vegas. i am planning to have my magnum repaired within a day or so. i have recently been informed by my dealer (dodgeland, usa) that dodge now recognizes a design problem and will be installing keylock access on the outside liftgates of 2006 and newer dodge magnums. i insist all current owners should receive a retrofit of this keylock capability. thank you for any assistance you can provide. right front tire has viberation and slapping noise. abnormal wear on outside. 1st time--cnd. 2nd time--cnd. 3rd time--rotated tires. 4th time balanced tires. dealer said i was making too many long trips, driving on curvy roads. recommended rotation every 3k miles. after three visits for the same problem, dealer rotated tires sending the problem tire to the rear of the car. on the 4th visit i insisted they remove the wheel and check for balance. the tire was out of balance. balanced tires and fixed the viberation, but the slapping noise is still there. i now have to fight the tire company, which in most cases, the company wins. jh

after filling up fuel tank, and driving away vehicle dies, engine cuts out and will not start right away. then once it starts it will cut out again and engine stalls. usually by the 3 time engine starts and car gets driven the problem of stalling goes away. concerned because this happens once i am driving on a road way.

when my wife depressed the accelerator in reverse, the pedal went to the floorboard with no engine reaction. approxiamtely 3-4 seconds later, the car violently took off backwards, ramming another car in our driveway. this action was repeatable for months and it was documented by the insurance adjuster as a major mechanical malfunction. dodge did not address that there was a problem and every time said there are no problems. we have found others with the same problem on the internet. this cost our insurance compnay several thousand dollars. also, the factory tires had very premature tire wear. i had to replace them at 18,000 miles. dodge did replace suspension parts under warranty prior to the premature tire wear. again, dodge said there was no problems with the car attributable to the tire wear.

dt: owner feels that it is a safety defect that there is a blind spot because when you look out to the driver's side window, the view is blocked by the position of the rearview mirror. this problem was noticed when the owner was driving on a main road. the owner has reported to dealer who states there is a design of low bucket seats and that the vehicle fits with all federal motor vehicle safety standards. the manufacture was contacted and reported the same as dealer. owner is also pursuing the lemon law about this car. 2005 magnum had to be chosen even though it is a 2006 vehicle, daimler chrysler had no listings in 2006. *nm

2005 dodge magnum - transmission failure 2 times in 1 week. known issue with dodge - service bulletin issued. transmission was repaired as per bulletin - picked up car from dodge repair, jasper dodge, jasper alabama, drove 115 miles with 3 year old and 7 year old in vehicle and transmission shut down doing 70 mph on hwy 78. could have been fatal. since this was a known issue and since it appears that their service repair failed to resolve problem - i personally feel the vehicle should be recalled before a fatal accident occurs. at 70 mph vehichle just lost all power. had i been in a major metropolitan area, i may not have been so lucky.

i bought a 2005 dodge magnum on april 9. on april 15 i had to have it towed because the check engine light came on while stopped at red light. when i took off the car was sluggish and would not change gears. the car was stuck in second gear. the dealer had the car from april 15 until april 29. they never did explain what caused the problem. i can't tell you what all they replaced because my car is in the shop now. this happened in june july and august all under the same circumstances. i contacted chrysler and a man named larry mcclain contacted me. he was in touch with the dealer every time they had the car. he always returned my call until this time when i said the car fell under the nc lemon law. each time the dealer has had the car it was something different replaced. i was told the third time that a service bulletin had been issued because moisture could build up in a solenoid in the transmission and cause it to fail. this is what they replaced the third time. this time i have no idea because no one will call me back. all i was told today when i went by there was the part they replaced didn't fix the problem. the dealership is anderson's in waynesville. i bought the car at thomas hll burgin in kodak tn and i have tried to contact the general manager gene morris but he will not return my calls either. no one will help me.*jb

i bought this car on april 4, 2005 and had the torque converter and valve body replaced on april 17, 2005. hard shift into gear in the transmission and one day was driving at 50 mph and the transmission came out of gear and then went back into gear. this was very dangerous i had my 5 and 6 year old children in the car. i believe this needs recalled. i have had my car in the dealership 8 times to try to fix the issue with the transmission and the shop manager the general manager and the transmission tech tell me this car is not normal but they don't know where to start. they had a representative from chrysler come out and look at it and he deemed it normal. i am stuck and am going to have to go to the next level and file under ind. lemon law to get any resolution. this issue needs to be taken care of before someone gets hurt or even killed. *jb

a car with no headlights hit us on our way out to dinner we were quater mile away from home. we stopped at the intersection and made sure traffic was clear before we proceeded, it was so we indicated a left turn and moved off. by the time we saw the other vehicle it was too late, it hit us with full impact at 100 miles per hour on the left side, no airbags went off. my boyfriend the owner of the car received a fractured rib and has pain along his left side, my daughter has headaches along with pain and bruises to her left leg and side and i received a hit to my face on the right side which hurts if i try to turn my head, pain in my right wrist and a little swelling and pain to the left elbow. the failure occured to me when the air bags didn't go off. for the type of vehicle which it is a 2005 dodge magnum hemi ( silver) do we have a valid complaint and if so, how can we receive some kind of compensation for the failure of the airbags and the proper steps we should take to make sure this complaint is registered and where to go after receiving some kind of response from your web site. *jb

in an open asphalt parking lot with no dividers or potholes or any surface material other than painted line, while driving about ~ 15 miles/hour i proceeded to make a left turn. i turned the wheels hard to the left when i felt like my vehicle hit something and the air bag deployed. upon coming to my senses and outside inspection of the vehicle, the left front wheel assembly came off the structural members which hold it to the axle/frame. two of the members had broken. the wheel itself was "laid out" in a ~ 30 degree angle with the ground and was shoved up against the firewall. this vehicle is a dodge magnum awd rt model with hemi engine. *nm

dodge magnum sxt 2005. i purchased june 30, 2005. while driving the vehicle, a vibration could be felt which seemed to come from the tires. we contacted the dealership and were able to replace 1 tire that seemed to be the problem. this did not fix the problem. i took the car to a local service center for a rotation and balance and they were out of balance about a 1/4. the technician also found the belt protruding out of the inside of the rear left tire. we took the car back to the dealership and they replaced that tire. we then were directed to take it to another facility to check out the tires further. the technician found one of the tires to have an "egg shaped" condition which meant it was out of specification. we took it back to the dealership and they replaced the other two tires. even though i have 4 new tires, i still feel this same condition. the main concern are the tires. the fact that i only had about 3,000 miles on the vehicle and a belt broke through the tire concerns me. good year has been contacted on this issue as well regarding the problem. i have also contacted daimlerchrysler customer service and reported the problem to them. notes: the tire size selected from your drop down menu was the only option (175/70r13). this is not the correct tire on my vehicle. the correct size is p215/65r17. *nm

consumer had repair done on steering column module, and on a/c cooling for fungus growth which had a bad odor inside vehicle that is still unresolved. *ts the steering column module failed two days after the vehicle was purchased. as a result there were no wipers, horn turn signals or cruise control. there were six attempts made to remove the foul smell from the vehicle, all unsuccessful. according to tsb #24-013-05 dated august aug 4, 2005 the cause of the odor was due to condensation forming around the a/c cooling coil which resulted in bacteria and fungi growth. the consumer wants the manufacturer to buy back the vehicle. *nm

purchased a previously owned 2005 dodge magnum from local dealership 45 days ago i experienced very serious pulling to the right. the dealership has indicated it had the vehicle aligned and two (2) new front tires installed before purchase. they have had me (they paid) take it in for three (3) more alignments with the last time the technicians needed to replace bent tie rods before the alignment could even be completed. it continues to have a very serious pull to the right, with no resolution in sight. the alignment shop has indicated it is using the latest dodge bulletins pertaining to the alignment issue (2 previous version also exist). feathering of the 'new' front tires is already apparent and i know it will only get worst; whether it is the unnecessary replacement of tires or an incident caused by this excessive uneven wearing of tire tread. the dealership is now non-responsive and has refused to do anything more. they have declared it as 'normal' for this vehicle and it is due to a manufacturer design problem. i have a new born baby that i am scarred to strap her into this death trap. it is the only vehicle that my wife and i own and are afraid to even drive it. it is an accident waiting to happen. *jb

on four occasions, while driving my 2005 dodge magnum, the electronic system has shut down and the blinker, headlights, windshield wipers, power windows, air-conditioning, mileage indicator, time clock etc. stop working. during three of the events, power steering and braking abilities were lost causing dangerous driving situations where the car cannot be controlled and in two of these instances, automobile accidents were narrowly avoided. my company asked me to file this complaint as this is a major safety concern that could cause death or very serious injury. the car has been back to the dealership for this complaint, however, they have been unable to find the problem and correct it. it is currently in the shop again. *nm

2005 dodge magnum make s a buzzing noise from the trunk and windshield wipers do not work properly. *ts ***nar*** the consumer noticed the inner paneling around the hatch door was not cut properly. one side was flush, inside the groove and the other side was slightly separated, which caused the vibration. the consumer placed small pieces of cushion inside the open areas to hold the panel steady. the fabric molding around the window was sagging. the window controls on the rear left side sunk into the door and the window locked on its own. the consumer took the vehicle in to have a recall repair performed regarding the transmission and the dealer had the consumers vehicle all day and failed to inform them that they would not be able to get to their vehicle. *jb

the front tires have worn out on the outside edges, car pulls to the right, growling noise at low speeds now beginning to show up at higher speeds. have complained about the problem since 6000 miles on the car, now has 19500, dealer says the alignment has no problems, blames the tires, the tire people (continental) blame the car. the car is now undriveable without replacing the tires, they are so out of balance and cupped vibration is severe. i was last told by the dealer it is my problem. *jb

recently bought a 05 dodger magnum on dec. 13, 2005 and have been back dec. 14,22,23,26 for alignment my key transmitters gave out the rear window stopped operating at these times the car was serviced and problems still occur. have been back to the shop jan. 17 and a few more times since then for the same reasons only now my key still won't work but won't go in keyhole either the air bag light comes on while driving. it is in the shop now and has been there since saturday i cannot continue to pay for a car that me and my children are not safe in. i have called the 1800 # for dodge and am waiting for a response i am also making a complaint with the texas attorney general and also the txdot motor vehicle board since the bbb didn't want anything to do with this complaint. these problems are recurring problems that the dealership will not acknowledge i have tried to give them a written complaint but they would not accept it as to there attorney did not write it i am not an attorney just a consumer why wouldn't they accept my letter i have it here along with all work orders and still no help. the letter was written on dec. 26 and was supposed to be taken when the car was put in the shop so they can see i am not going to be pushed over to the side and that's what has happened the car salesman lied from day one come to find out after i made the complaint with bbb he was terminated for "drug use". great now we are buying cars from liars and the mangers of this car lot wont acknowledge me or my problem he sends a car salesman to me i don't want to discuss the problem with a salesman i want an owner a manager or even the manufacturer but no they hide. thank you for letting me complain on this website maybe it will help others to not get a magnum they are dangerous and dodge doesn't care at our expense. *nm

i purchased my new 2005 dodge magnum r/t on 12/20/04. manufacturer date 9/04. vehicle continues to pull right. has pulled to the right from the beginning. must keep constant pressure to the left on the steering wheel. if i let up, vehicle travels right. lane does not make difference. without constant pressure to left, vehicle will travel across 3 lanes to right and keep going right. first complaint at 4400 miles 5/05. dealer realigned. second complaint 7900 miles. dealer realigned. third complaint 15900 miles. both front tires showing extreme wear on outside. tread in that area on driver front almost gone. requested tire replacement. dealer told me they contacted daimler chrysler about my complaint. two new tires were mounted, at no charge to me, on rear of vehicle. older rear tires moved to front. rear tires did not show any abnormal wear. vehicle came with continental tires. replacement tires also continentals. vehicle aligned again. on drive home, vehicle continued to pull to right. took vehicle to reputable, national company for a courtesy road test. they confirmed vehicle pulls to the right. returned to dealer a couple of hours later with the complaint that the vehicle still pulling to right. management is contacting the "dodge technicians" to see what can be done about my vehicle. i was told by this dealer that they had experienced similar problems with another 05 magnum, that they were told by the "dodge technicians" that the vehicles are within specs and within tolerances." within tolerances of what? i know that if i let go of the wheel, or do not apply constant pressure to the left, this vehicle will run off the road! the extreme tire wear i experienced was directly related to the front end of this vehicle. at present my vehicle has 16000 miles on it. left front tire that was removed was extremely scary as to how it had worn so badly. i am not in possession of the removed tires. *jb

sunroof does not close properly. pops open when attempting to close. the first incident, the dealer claims that they replaced motor. the second incident, they claim that they calibrated it. it still pops open when attempting to close the sunroof. the driver side window does not always work. the first incident, the dealer claims that they replaced the master switch. the second incident, the dealer claims that they replaced the motor. now you can hear a weird sound when rolling down the window. *jb

dt*: the contact stated that after 200 to 300 miles of freeway driving, the vehicle appeared to be shutting down but would not allow the contact to accelerate. when the contact drove the vehicle on the freeway about 2 to 3 months later, the vehicle also idled up and would not allowing the vehicle to accelerate. this only occurred during highway driving. the vehicle has been driven to work daily without incident. the speed difference was 75 mph on the freeway versus 45 mph to go to work. the contact expressed that the problem may be caused by the difference in speed or the increased in mileage. both incidences occurred after 200 miles of driving. the dealer test drove the vehicle for 20 miles and ran a diagnostic test but could not find the problem. the contact expressed concerns for safety. the vehicle's brakes were also a concern. since the vehicle was purchased, the brake warning light has been illuminating. when the emergency is released, the brake warning light turns off, even though the emergency brake was not previously engaged. there was also a terrible squealed when the brake pedal was depressed. this has occurred since the vehicle was purchased. the dealership was alerted of all of these problems but they have offered no resolution.*ak

i was driving along kings highway at about 35 mph and the hood suddenly flew up. the hood slammed back down as i came to a stop thus trapping the hood struts outside the hood on either side damaging the hood and both fenders. july 3 i called the local dodge dealer landers dodge and reported the problem to them. i also inquired about towing and they said they use smiths towing. i called smiths towing and they told me that the hood was going to fly up no matter if it was on a rollback or not and suggested that i save the wrecker fee and drive it. i drove the car from my home to fern ave which is about 3 miles upon driving on fern ave the hood flew up again causing even more damage. i again secured the hood and drove to the dealership at 10 mph with my emergency flashers on. i left the vehicle at the dealership for their inspection as their chrysler rep would not be there until wednesday. on wednesday the dealership called me and said it is not a covered defect and that i would have to file with my insurance company. there is a tsb on this issue number 2302004 but yet they say they are not responsible. i need some sort of effective recourse on this as at this point i have none. *jb

details: i have 9800 miles on my 2005 dodge magnum rt which came from the factory with continental tires. i have rotated the tires every 3000 miles. in talking with other magnum owners "online", they are experiencing the same problem. some people are getting adjustments from their dealers, others are not. these tires should be recalled . these tires do not live up to their listed wear ratings and the car manufacture should recall the cars for defective tires.(continenetal tire). at 10.000 miles alot of people don't even think about checking there tire's.they could have bald tires and not know it until one blows or they lose control on wet pavement. *nm

the front tires are cupping every 3,000 miles. dealer has checked alignment, rotated the tires and replaced them for free 4 times with 2 different brands of tires. i now have 30,000 miles and the tires are worn out again and the dealer has told me that is just the way it is and to stop coming to them to resolve the issue. it has been quite rainy where i live and i feel that the tire damage is now putting me at risk. the ability of the tires to perform in rain soaked roads has diminished significantly because of the unusual wearing and i feel that it is unsafe to drive the vehicle in any inclement weather. i really hope this issue can be resolved before there is a fatality. since the tires are so badly worn on the outer edges the vehicle vibrates at highway speeds and seems quite unstable. any little bump in the highway causes the steering wheel to jerk violently. i am not sure if this is caused by the worn tires or an inherent design flaw in the front end. i know from researching the internet that there are many owners that are having the same problem. *jb

no events lead up to the failure. i was going out of town on emergency and air bag light came on and stayed on. i was not able to get vehicle fixed due once i arrived at my destination due to parts not available. i was forced to drive home without airbags and driving over the mileage of the original warranty. it has been over a month and just now getting the part on. the vehicle had to be driven without airbags (and who knows what else that was tied into the wiring harness and clock spring). *nm

despite two tire rotation within 18000 miles,( following the recommended service by chrysler and performed by the dealership) the continental tires on my new, 2005 dodge magnum were declared "trash" by the bangor dodge service manager, to the extent that he would not even attempt to align the front end of my car. i needed to by four new tires- goodyears this time- before i could get a front end and rear end alignment. i did not get even expected wear from these tires. it cost me $800 within 18,000 extremely conservative miles( i am a retired person) because of a judgmental error by chrysler to put soft and inappropriate tires on my car. i expect compensation for lack of expected wear. *nm

i purchased my 2005 dodge magnum new in october of 2004. the vehicle has had a right pull/drift since it was new. conventional alignments have not corrected problem. the dealer now informs me they need to realign the sub frame and then realign the vehicle. this is a $300.00 or more repair and is not covered under warranty. i have complained to chrysler and they will not cover repair under warranty. the tires have premature wear also. with less than 25,000 miles i need new tires now. *nm

the continental tires on my new, 2005 dodge magnum were replaced with goodyears due to the fact that at 10,000 miles the front tires were completely bald and the rear tires only had 1/8" tread left, i rotated the tires every 3000 miles and noticed the wear bars had started showing when i rotated them at 9000 miles. the dealer said it was not their problem and that i should bring it to a continental tire dealer and complain. continental would only pay 35% towards the cost of new tires. after spending $32,000 on a new car then one year later having to dish out over $600 for tires really hurts. my whole reason for buying the car was to not have to worry about expensive mechanical repairs for a long time. *nm

i have a dodge magnum rt (it's now 7 mos old with 4000 miles). 3 mos after i bought the car, the engine started stalling intermittently when i tried to reverse out of the parking stall. then when i tried the start the engine again, it would not start until i pressed on the gas pedal. i brought it in the dealership the first time, they "cannot duplicate customer's concern". brought it in the second time, they installed a co-pilot in the car to monitor the stalling hoping that the computer would tell them something. i took the car in the third time for another problem, at the same time they took the reading off the co-pilot. the dealership told me that the co-pilot shows that the engine did stall, but the sensor was showing everything was running well with the car. they suggested to replace the computer sensor thinking that it might be defective that's why it is not showing anything. weeks later they called and said they found the same problem in the pacifica. they re-install some software in my car and the engine stalling seems to disappear. however, the reversing is still not normal. the car seems to have problem with reversing. when reversing most car will move without having to push on the gas pedal. my car will stop at a certain point, then when i try to press on the pedal gently and slowly, the car will suddenly reverse really fast. i almost hit someone and another parked vehicle last week because of this. i brought my car in the dealership again this week (8th or 10th time in 6 mos) for this incident. of course, their response is "cannot duplicate customer's concern". *jb

tl* - the contact stated that had transmission failure. the vehicle had 18,000 mileson it. the check engine light first turned on at 10,000 miles. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, and the check engine light was reset. in june 2006 the contact was driving in heavy traffic 70 mph with clear and dry road conditions and the vehicle dropped to first gear. the contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. the contact stated the air bag light and the check engine light came on. the contact called the dealer, waited a few minutes and drove the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer changed the throttle body and transmission control module. the vehicle performed well for approximately 3,000 miles. on dec 22, 2006 the check engine light came on, the contact called the dealer and because the contact was concerned about driving the vehicle, the dealer came and towed the vehicle. the transmission control module was changed. the contact was called on dec 28, 2006, and was told the vehicle was ready. the contact picked up the vehicle and within three miles of leaving the dealer, the contact accelerated and the vehicle dropped to first gear. the traffic was heavy and the contact can not remember if any warning lights turned on. the contact drove the vehicle back to the dealer where it remained. the contact did not have the vin information, he will call back. *ak

2005 dodge magnum rt, continental tires started showing tread wear at 6000 miles. dealer at 9000 miles made note of unusual tread wear and blamed it on excessive speed. at 11,000 miles 2 out of the 4 tires were completely worn through and the other 2 almost worn through. car is 1.3 years old and has only been driven 11,000 miles. dealer will not replace tires and continental will only give a 50% rebate on the tires but will not reimburse for mounting and alignment. car also pulls to the right consistently. *jb

tl*- the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum with 3500 miles. the contact stated that the passenger side air bag sensor did not work properly. the contact explained that when someone was sitting in the passengers seat the air bag sensor often indicated that the airbag was off, even though the person that was sitting in the seat met the required weight for the air bag to be on. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but they could not find a problem with the sensor, and told the contact that it was working as designed. the current and failure mileage were 3500. *ak updated 03/06/07. *jb

in feb 2005 i purchased an 05 dodge magnum with continental tires. i now have 26000 miles on my car and the continental tires are worn down to the wear bar and maybe a bit more. the ride has always been rough with questionable performance in higher speed turns and evasive maneuvers. are there any other complaints with these tires and what can be done to keep these dangerous tires off the road. it would also be nice to have continental to pay for replacement tires (from another tire company). *nm

i have not had a complete failure. waiting on that to happen. my husband and i purchased a used 2005 dodge magnum se with v6, automatic transmission)in late march early april of last year from a dealership. it had approximately 36000 miles on it. we have not had the pulling to the right everyone else had, but we have experienced several other problems that are common. i have depressed the brake and felt vibrations from pedal on several occasions. the car doesn't seem to be able to stop completely. i even got out to look,thinking i hit something. upon take off, the transmission doesn't shift smoothly. you can feel it jerk, and slam your head back into seat. a few months ago, the power outlet located inside the astray stopped working. it blew a fuse, we replaced it. then, two weeks ago, the power outlet in the console stopped working. just two days ago, the battery went dead for the second time in three months. we replaced the battery again. now all the sudden the ac/heater stopped working. you can hear it trying to come on, but the fan motor doesn't seem to be coming on. sometimes the rear passenger side window will not roll down by either the driver's controls or the back controls. there was an occasion this week that the rear hatch wouldn't open. my husband had to crawl through the back to open it. my husband has also been driving the car to work in the morning and the car won't accelerate when the gas pedal is pushed. we've noticed that the headlights seem to surge at night, too. our factory integrity tires also had the belts break. we will be taking our car in to the dealership, along with copies of complaints from other consumers. i was so excited to have a nice looking car. apparently thats all that is nice about it.*ak

2005 dodge magnum. pulled to right when first purchased. tires were aligned and balanced. wear on tires. replaced tires after 18000 miles due to a blowout on right rear tire. tires had no tread on outside edge and overall tire. dealer would only pay for two tires. car pulled to right after new tires installed. the vehicle had all four tires aligned and balanced. the dealer paid for the alignement and balance under warranty. the vehicle pulled harder to the right after the alignment, contacted the business of where the vechicle was aligned. the vehicle was taken again, and had the owner personally check the vehicle before and after the alignment. the dealership would not cover this charge. the car pulled harder to the right than before. the car has 23000, and the tires wore out and will needed to be replaced again soon. *ak

tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum se. the rear passenger and driver seat belt doesn't come with an automatic locking mode. she stated that when putting a child safety seat in one of those seats it doesn't restrain the child securely. the dealer informed her that the vehicle doesn't come equipped with that feature. the contact was not informed before purchasing the vehicle. the failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.

WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS

while rotating the tires i quickly noticed the lug nuts seemed to be installed very tight. they were, in fact, installed above the specified 100 lb. ft. they were on so tight that the permanent chrome caps striped off 2 separate nuts! i then used a smaller size socket to remove these lug nuts. on another wheel i could not, by no means available, remove 2 of 6 lug nuts. the tools i used were; a conventional socket wrench with the specified 21mm socket, air wrench w/220lb of torque, and even the wrench that is included with the jack and spare. this now left me with no choice but to put the other wheels back on the car and head off to the dodge dealer where i purchased the car. they worked on it for 2hrs. and were only able to remove 1 of the 2 stuck lug nuts. after another half hour, they informed me that they would have to cut the wheel off to get the other lug nut off. i would have to bring back the car the next day while they ordered another rim. i dropped the vehicle off at 7:00am the next day and it was finished at 11:30am. i wasn't able to pick it up until 6:30pm. according to the dealer the cause of the problem was corrosion. (which there were no visible signs of and the problem can be repeated) they did replace the wheel, 2 studs, & 2 nuts under warranty. they also said they re-torque each lug nut to specs. (100 lb ft) the next day i decided to finish the tire rotation. in this process another chrome cap stripped off. this led me to realize that the oe nuts are harder to get off than the new ones that were put on. upon further investigation i visually compared the oe nuts with the new ones side by side. there is indeed a difference that can be seen. the oe ones have a gold tone to them on the underside, where as the new ones have a silver look on the under side and a much tighter crimp on the chrome cap. also, when each lug nut is torque to specs on the same wheel, the oe is much harder to remove. up to 220 lb ft of force to remove.

my son, after exiting the highway turned north on chaffee road to go home. he went to change lanes into the left lane where the road turned to a four lane road and, as reported by a witness, smoke came out from the front right tire area and the car swung to the right hitting a pole. as witnessed, the vehicle was traveling no more than 25 mph. the car was totaled. the front right tire was obviously not on the vehicle because it and the entire front right suspension beat the car to the scene of the crash. it was lying in front of the car. if it were on the vehicle it would have been under it due to the way the pole took out the front right side of the car all the way into the passengers compartment. the police reported it as a mechanical failure.*ak

i was driving the 2005 dodge magnum today and i pushed the accelerator to the floor to avoid a collision. the accelerator would not stop accelerating until it hit about 6000 rpms. i braked, and it had no affect on the increasing speed. i had to shift to neutral and then back to drive to get control of the accelerator was an unnerving experience. the local dealer 's shop said this was due to carbon build up in the bitterly. this car has 45,000 miles on it. if that is the result of carbon build up prepare for more complaints such as this one . this could have been a life threatening situation. when you stand on the brakes and the car goes faster something is plain wrong. *ak

tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. the vehicle has bridgestone turanza tires, size 215/65r17. while driving 65 mph, the front driver side tire blew out and the vehicle crashed into a guard rail. the contact stated that a state trooper witnessed the entire accident and filed a report. he stated that the front driver side rim struck the cement. the crash damaged the front driver side door, fender, and bumper. the "a" frame (axle, subframe, struts) of the vehicle were replaced for $4,500. the contact injured his back and is still seeing a doctor. the tires are original equipment. the dot number was unknown. the current mileage is 56,000 and failure mileage was 55,950.

premature tire wear on my o5 dodge magnum r/t. i have replaced the front tires at 10k miles due to them cupping and balding on the outside edges. i did this and had the front end checked out. then at 35k miles i had to replace them again!i then took it to a front end shop and they aligned it and said the factory has a bad set of specs as it will wear out the tires in no time!this is not normal or right!

beginning about april 2007 (i bought the car new in june 2004), i began having a problem after every refueling - the car stalls out while driving. it takes 3 or 4 attempts at restart, then starts, only to stall within 5 minutes or so of more driving. this has happened many times, and my car has been to the dealer 3 times and it will not misbehave for the dealer. it seems that it only happens when the car is below 1/4 tank at refueling, so i have avoided problems by filling up before that point. however, i tested it today, drove it below 1/4 tank, refueled, and it did it again. note - i only use the appropriate grade gas and only chevron - never any other brand. i never top off. i have asked the dealer to check the fuel filter, fuel delivery system, to no avail. they insist that the "computer says its fine" this is a dangerous situation because the car stalls while i am driving, not just idling. *jb

on my 2005 dodge magnum whenever the vehicle has been sitting for several hours, upon start up and operation, all interior lights and instrument panel begin to flicker/pulsate. headlights and taillights do the same. for my headlights it causes them to turn off, and then i have to flip the switch to get them on again. this is a everyday problem and is very unsafe at night. vehicle has been to the dealer twice and they could not locate the source of the problem.

tire wear and tread loss - causes premature balding and dangerous shaking. second set of continental. first came with car new, second set after causing steering shake, required replacement of tires with dealer, tie-rod ends, many rotations and services. in both cases ware on tires was excessive and around 18,000 to 22,000 miles. very rapid tire wear - causes vibration and dangerous driving conditions. tires required rebalancing and excessive air loss. updated 07/29/08

i was exiting the freeway and heard a big noise, right after the noise my front tire locked on the passenger side. i pulled to the side and called aaa to tow my car home , when i got home i took of the tire and came to find out that my caliper with the bracket broke and cracked my rim too. the weird part of it was that only the front passenger side tire locked and the other 3 tires are fine. i still haven't fixed it due to funds at the moment.

vehicle: 2005 dodge magnum r/t with hemi engine with approx. 76,000 miles (car put into service in late spring '04). i was driving on the highway and all of a sudden the car started whining -- like it was in the wrong gear. i pulled over, couldn't hear anything and got back on the road -- everything sound okay. the next morning, after driving for about 1 mile, the same thing occurred -- i was going about 55-60 miles per hour. after i put the vehicle in park and back into drive, everything seemed to be okay. the next day, the engine/transmission light came on for a few minutes and the car again sounded funny, but now if i slowed down or stopped the vehicle (like for a stop light), the car sounded as if it was still in fourth or fifth gear when i put on the gas. i took the car into the dealership immediately and was informed by the dealership that the transmission wiring harness was so burned up that technicians could not get a read out from any of the associated computers to determine what the error codes were relating to my transmission/engine. i was also informed that it could not be determined what caused the harness to melt the wiring. chrysler refuses to explore cause or to pay for repair. i am concerned that this could have been a disaster and i just got lucky before the vehicle caught on fire.

airbag light comes on. took to dealer who replaced the clock spring. a day and a half later the airbag light comes back on. took back to dealer who stated that the part was faulty. replaced with another clock spring. may 12th the airbag light came on again. took back to dealer who wants me to leave the car with them next week so they can call chrysler to try and figure out why this keeps happening. they think it might be a wiring issue.

the car stalls on turns. this has happened several times over the course of a month. found out on june 12, 2008 that dodge has a "service bulletin" out to update the computer to stop the car from stalling! when were they going to tell the customers after we have an accident! i am just lucky that i haven't been hit from this stalling problem. this is the 4 recall of something on this car and i am very sorry that i ever bought this dodge magnum.

over the last month i have had my 2005 dodge magnum sxt in the dealership for the airbag light coming on 3 times. all 3 times they had stored codes but could not find out what was causing the problem. the storied code was lost communication with the occupant classification module. the first time they could not get it to duplicate the problem so they did nothing except a wire wiggle test. but they did tell me if the light come on i have no airbags. the second time they recalibrated the pass front seat. this time the storied code said ocm out of calibration. the last time i had it in they had it for a week because a rep from chrysler was going to come and look at it. like i said it was there for a week and the rep was to busy to go to this dealership, so they talked back and forth on the phone. what did they do. they wiped out and reset the computer, reinstalled latest software and recalibrated the ocm and sensors.

tl*the contact owns a 2005 dodge magnum. while driving approximately 30 mph, the steering wheel loosened and the interior lighting became very dim. on occasion, the contact smelled a burning odor inside the passenger compartment. there were no warning indicators prior to the failures because the warning light indicators have never worked since the vehicle was purchased. the vehicle would start roughly from time to time. when the contact depressed the brake pedal, the contact heard a loud noise underneath the vehicle. in addition, the vehicle shutters when proceeding to turn, the air conditioning unit is not working properly, and the transmission hesitates intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the steering failure was related to the front suspension. the mechanic replaced two control arms and tie rods. a diagnostic was performed and the mechanic stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. the failure mileage was 20,000 and current mileage was 23,000. updated 07/08/08. *bf there was a loud clicking noise when braking. the vehicle was hard to start and when it start it would stall. the transmission make a shuttering noise. updated
