brand new vehicle lease. at dealership when vehicle was put in gear engine stalled 4 times. salesman entered vehicle and accelerated engine then put in gear and vehicle continued to run and stated vehicle was ok. about 30 miles away when coming to a stop because of traffic vehicle stalled in the middle of a busy 50mph intersection and was almost struck by a oncoming tractor trailer. after locking up his brakes an accident was just barely avoided. it took 4 tries to get the durango to move again without shutting off. vehicle is at the dealer now and they do not know as of yet what the problem is and refuse to give me a different vehicle. my family could have been killed.

SUSPENSION

since the vehicle was brand new its has had a vibration in the steering wheel and pulls hard to the right. i have had the vehicle to the dealer many times with no success. i found the issue myself once i looked under the car. both front struts are blown, spraying oil onto other components, frame and leaking onto the floor of the garage. the vehicle slidside ways on a left hand turn from a stop light.

what happens: inconsistent and intermittent temporary brake/power failure. brake pedal temporarily becomes extremely hard and high with almost no pedal movement or no/minimal perceived braking. sustained maximum pedal pressure (up to 5 seconds) and the brakes magically return. pedal depressed to the stops, immediately engaging the abs and maximum panic stop. brake pedal can modulated if experiencing the unexpected panic stop. when it occurs or causes it to occur: morning commuting (highway and freeway driving): immediately apply the brake pedal after 75%-100% acceleration from 0-65 mph on the entrance ramp or from freeway stop light. transmission must shift at around 60 mph. freeway driving (immediately applying the brake after any of these conditions) merging and accelerating into traffic, maintaining steady speed up long grades requiring increasing pedal pressure, slowly accelerating from 45-65 mph such that the transmission does not shift down, trailer towing: any long steady pull maintaining 40-60 mph highway speed while in high gear. cold morning 5-10 degree f. took 8-10 blocks for the brake pedal to be normal. started out high/hard/ almost no brakes and slowly got better then worked normally. dealer results: dealer replaced master cylinder. dealer can reproduce results. states all test diagnostics show the braking system is working as expected and designed. symptoms still occurring. ..updated 02/06/14 *bf

POWER TRAIN

when driving the vehicle during the first snow storm of the season when i reached my destination i was unable to shift the vehicle into park or reverse. the only thing i could do is drive or neutral. after taking the vehicle to the dealership i was told that snow had gotten lodged in the drive shaft therefore not allowing the car to be shifted. chrysler told me that this probably wouldn't happen again and that it was because we had heavy wet snow. this is wisconsin!!! we get snow all of the time. they stated that there is nothing that they can do to make sure it does not happen again. i am glad that i was not in a position where i needed to reverse the vehicle or i would have been stuck 55 miles from home in a snow storm!

SERVICE BRAKES

braking system vacuum boost is leaking over a short period of time (typically 8 hours). pedal feel is firm after the time period and difficult to depress. after vehicle is started the vacuum boost and pedal feel returns to normal. a dealer service appointment has been made for a diagnostic and repair.

on numerous occasions when i get in the vehicle to start it, via push button start, the vehicle will start an immediately shut down. attempts to restart the vehicle result in a 15-30 second repetitive start loop without the vehicle starting, at which point a red light will begin blinking on the center console. typically the vehicle has to rest for approximately two minutes before attempting a restart, some of which are successful and some are not. the vehicle is also taking up to 10 seconds to shut down once the push button is depressed to turn of the vehicle. this is beginning to become a real safety concern as in an emergency i cannot trust that i can shut down the engine.

there has been more than one incident date on this issue. i just entered the last time it has happened. when going to start my vehicle it starts, than automatically stalls. i have had this happen over 6 times in the last 2 months. i have read countless reports of other chrysler vehicles having this same issue...with the tipm. how there is a national back order and people's cars have been in shops for over a month. chrysler needs to issue a recall and get this problem fixed!

the vehicle was purchased used with approximately 19,000 miles. current mileage is 37,705. during about 1/3 of all engine starts, hot and cold, the engine will run briefly (less than 5 seconds) and then stall. the engine will usually start and run on the second try but sometimes will not start until the third try. the vehicle was inspected at approximately 30,000 miles by the local chrysler dealership in cathedral city, ca, which reported they could not duplicate the problem.

STEERING

leased 2012 durango on 12/28/11. at 9353 miles on 12/7/12 the power steering system ruptured while making a turn into a parking lot. power steering fluid covered engine and engine compartment. complete failure of all power steering, vehicle was very difficult to maneuver to a safe spot out of traffic. vehicle had to be flatbed to dealer. dodge service stated that a fitting on a hose had broken or fallen off. it was repaired. at 21,922 miles on 1/09/13 once again as i pulled out of traffic into a shopping center the same thing happened again. complete failure of all power steering, flatbed to dodge dealer and am told that all hoses and pump assembly need to be replaced. i understand something happening once. twice is a issue. contacted dodge and was told there are no other reports of this. after a little searching dodge customer service rep said there have been reports of something like this on some 2012 jeeps.

i normally drive w/the headlights in the auto on position and all of the sudden the headlights and my dash light turned off, when i switched to manually turn them on they came on. this has been happening intermittently but i have not yet contacted the dealer.

pulling car out of driveway heading down the street. approaching the stop sign attempted to brake and the car had complete brake failure; therefore, i waited until the car rolled to a stop. took the car to the dodge dealership advising what took place. they inspected the car and said there were no issues with the car or braking system. i was given back my car and i drove home, brakes worked. the next day, the same issue occurred; i pulled out of my driveway heading down the street. approaching the stop sign attempted to brake and again had complete brake failure. i took the car back to the dodge dealership, they inspected again and said my master cylinder was defected, along with the brake power booster. they advised me the parts were not being manufactured at this time. i contacted dodge corporation to inquire on this matter, concerned that this may be a recall or that there is major issue with dodge durango braking systems and was told by [xxx] that the part was being made but did not know when it would ship. she also did not have any other information to provide as to other brake issues with dodge durango and or recall. i felt a responsibility to report this to you due to the severe safety issue of dodge durango's on the road that may encounter complete brake failure. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

on jan 24th and on feb 7th, the dodge durango did not start and was towed via roadside assistance to the 5 towns chrysler dealership for repairs that cost unnecessary 1200.00. an external fuel pump relay was installed by the dealer. this is a s a result of an inadequate, faulty and defective the fuel pump relay which caused the car to stop running. this can cause accidents and loss of lives.

heard from a friend with a 2011 durango that they had low power steering fluid when they had their maintenance check up. i had been hearing a mild grinding noise when i would move my steering wheel at times so i took it in to have it checked. sure enough, the power steering fluid level was at a very low level. they had to put some in and then schedule an appointment to come back and look for a leak. came back, found no leak and blamed it on the manufacturer for having an air bubble or something. friend was right. i guess it is common. check your power steering fluid levels!

automatic headlights will shut off unpredictably at night, requiring the driver to reach down and turn the headlights on manually. potentially very dangerous as it is a distraction to the driver even if he knows where the light switch is. very dangerous if you are driving in the dark and do not know where your headlight switch is. this problem has happened at least 20 times.

POWER TRAIN

i have had an intermittent transmission/electronic malfunction. after starting the vehicle and moving the shift lever from "p" (park) to "d" (drive) the numeral "4" is displayed in the evic (electronic vehicle information center) where one would expect to see the letter "d". at this point when the accelerator is pushed the vehicle moves forward but with a distinct lack of power. when moving the shift lever to the left -- the ers (electronic range select) function of the shift lever in non-functioning -- the vehicle stays in 4th gear and the numeral in the evic window is still "4". the vehicle is "stuck" in 4th gear. the only way to return the vehicle to "normal" function is to turn it off and restart the engine. upon restart the problem has never repeated itself. the incident has happened numerous times and has been documented (video using an iphone) on 4 separate occasions. i have taken the vehicle to the service department of the dealer where i purchased it several times, and on each occasion different "fixes" have been attempted. the "malfunction" happened again on april 9th, 2014, the most recent occurrence.

driving in freezing weather at approximately 35-40 mph. i went to brake, & brakes felt hard, pedal would not depress completely, & coming to s stop was difficult & took more time than usual. took car to auto shop nearby & they diagnosed with failed brake booster. had car towed to chrysler dealer as it was dangerous to drive due to the loss of brake power, in which it remained there for 3 weeks due to booster part "being on back order". since this booster was on back order, i asked chrysler if this has been a common problem with durangos & was told no. they told me that since my vehicle was over the warranty in mileage (approx 40,000), the repair was not covered, however, they gave me discount. i've read the reports & letters issued relating to this recall in which they stated there is "no loss in braking" however, this was untrue in my case. had i been driving on highway when this occurred, i would have been in trouble with braking, as there was a definite decrease in braking by approximately 50%. i called chrysler regarding reimbursement for this recall, & chrysler will not issue a refund on what i paid to have brake booster replaced at this time, stating to me that "this recall doesn't affect my vehicle", when in fact, this recall should have occurred sooner than now to keep me safe. i have read in the reports that this issue was identified last year. i consider myself lucky to not have been driving at a high speed when this occurred.

our 2012 dodge durango r/t was purchased brand new as a replacement for lemon law buy back of our 2009 dodge journey. the durango is plagued with design flaws. the most obvious is the tipm total integrated module. the failure of this module resulting in our vehicle catching fire. the vehicle cranks but does not start at times, other times when it starts it dies in the street. while taking it to the dealership for repairs they would not repair it and another dealer denied the repairs. the only loaner i was placed in was a brand new durango with the plastic still covering the seats, floor etc. the brand new loaner also contained a faultily tipm. we didn't even have the loaner a day because the lights were bright lighting everyone, alarm was going off driving down the road, radio was crackling, the instrument panel was flashing. our durango contains all of these issues; left and right rear tail light assemblies are dead, both front struts are blown leaking, spraying fluid under the vehicle onto the frame and brake(s), line(s), transmissions is leaking, high engine oil consumption. our durango is still under factory warranty, plus a platinum extended warranty. while our vehicle is covered under an extended warranty they will not pay for a rental car because the tipm is national backordered part. please.... you have to recall this vehicle before others are injured or killed!

while applying the brakes, additional pressure was required in order to attempt to stop. this has happened in cold weather but now has also happened in summer. the brakes failed to completely slow the vehicle and a crash occurred at slow speed.

after backing out of parking space put vehicle in drive. upon placing my foot on accelerator i noted that vehicle barely moved. looked to see if vehicle was in drive. display read 4. attempted several times to put vehicle in drive without success. had to put vehicle in park, turn engine off and the restart. this was the first time this has occurred. vehicle at dealer now. this incident occurred 1 day after i noted vehicle was not shifting into gear when placed in drive or reverse. would have to wait, after moving gearshift, before transmission would actually shift to drive or reverse. at one point i placed foot on accelerator when transmission had not shifted and vehicle lurched backwards.

this vehicle was recalled through nhtsa. when i called for a service appointment they stated that there were no parts available for the recall. they explained that chrysler was aware of this shortage and recall problem, the company was university dodge in davie, florida. i am about to embark on a 2000 mile trip with my 2 grandchildren. when i explained this to the service manager, manny, he said don't worry about it . we are in florida and this really doesn't concern us.you will be fine.

i have a 2012 dodge durange rt. when parked at a gas station, tried to turn engine on with push start switch and engine does not start. when pushing start switch again it makes the sound like the engine is trying to turn over but does nothing. in order to get the engine to stop from making the turn over noise i have to move from park to in gear. then i receive the "ignition or accessory on" message. in order to get the message clear i have to turn off vehicle without pressing the brake. this puts the engine into the off mode and i have to start the process to get the car to start all over again. this has happened multiple occasions and i have video to show the defect. i have done research and read this issue with many people saying it is the tipm defect. also, when using my right blinker instead of the front blinker working my fog lights flash. for the vehicle to not start or stall is a big safety concern and liability.

there has not been an incident yet - my issue is: there has been a recall for the brake booster but the dealer is telling me that dodge is not sending the parts needed to fix the problem.apparently the brakes could possibly freeze and fail. i called the dealer 7/1/2014 and was "put on the list" for the part to be replaced. i called today, 8/1/2014, and was told i was on the list but there was almost 50 others in front of me and that dodge was only sending 2 or 3 parts a month and had restricted the part so it couldnt be ordered. at this rate, it will be the end of the year before my car is fixed. although it is aug. now, it will get cold soon and i have 3 children that i chauffeur around. i would hate for one of them to be injured because the brakes fail and would also hate to file a lawsuit over a known issue that dodge seems to be dragging their feet over. is there anyway to expedite the process so the car can be fixed before winter?

on several occasions upon pulling out in to traffic the vehicle either stopped accelerating or would not accelerate at all. this has also happened on a few occasions attempting to pass another vehicle. upon pulling out to pass the vehicle would not accelerate. this is a very unsafe problem that has caused my family to nearly get t-boned after pulling out into traffic. other owners seem to have similar symptoms which eventually get traced back to a faulty cylinder head. regardless of how many times the vehicles is sent in for service nothing is done about it until the check engine light shows a trouble code. chrysler has been aware of this problem since the middle of 2012 but has refused to issue a recall.

2012 dodge durango crew v6 tipm problem. vehicle is starting to show signs of a faulty/failing tipm as many others are and recall should be issued by chrysler as this is a known problem that has occurred in the past. this failure can cause the airbags not to deploy when needed and can cause the vehicle to stall without warning possible causing a traffic accident. the vehicle is currently having a hard time starting as no power is being fed to the fuel pump.

the totally integrated modular engine (time) has had many problems since the purchase of the 2012 dodge durango. the suv has stopped dead while in drive on interstate 95. the panel lights has all come on all at once while driving. the engine has stalled and would not restart several times late at night. the exterior lights has gone off completely at night without panel light notification. the fog lights will not work at all times. the radio at times will not pay. the push start button will not always start the vehicle. the engine permits a foul order at times. the engine has gone from automatic to manuel drive without placement in manuel. the brake pedal will not come back after being pushed to the floor. the mother board has had to be replaced. the entire electrical system has shut down - vehicle had to be towed to the dealership. i have been given a rental car 4 times for an approximate total of 30 days to try to rectify the problems. i have 4 recalls for various issues and none have been fixed due to parts are not readily available. recall id's - april 2014 service brakes and brakes hydraulic anti-lock #102663, #102664, #102298 and july 2014 105085 - electrical system wiring. there are several class action lawsuits against the chrysler group, llc for the 2012 dodge durango. i no longer feel safe in this vehicle, i can possibly cause an accident or someone can hit me with all the problems and potentially hurt myself or others with all the recalls and engine problems.

2012 dodge durango, 5.7. hemi, keyless start, auto transmission. since vehicle was relatively new, would occasionally not start, starter would engage, but to ignition. within the last 2 months has gotten worse, now approximately 70% of the time, vehicle will not start using the push to start. if lock the vehicle and use remote start from the key fob, will 95% of time start. must then unlock the vehicle and press the push to start button. sometimes the engine will at this point run rough and stall. must then repeat the process. rarely the key will not be detected while in the vehicle. either key fob is the same and they have new cr2032 batteries in them. tipm is at fault. vehicle now has approximately 57,000 miles on it.

check engine light came on on saturday, august 30, 2014. took car to the dodge dealer and was told on friday, september 5, 2014 that the issue was a faulty air in take sensor. on saturday, september 6, 2014 the air intake sensor was replaced. dealership was getting ready to drive the vehicle 30 miles to allow the system to reset when they discovered the problem was with the tipm (computer system which is the brains of the vehicle). the faulty tipm is preventing the fuel injector to function properly at start up so that the vehicle stalls and fails to start. after several attempts the vehicle will start but if left idle will stall and engine cuts off

totally integrated power module (tipm) - tried to start my car one morning and it wouldn't start. made sounds like it was trying to turn over so i stopped and tried again and it started. each day it got worse. then it happened again at lunch and after work so was happening 3 times a day. car started to stall in the middle of the street or make odd sounds like the engine was reving up. almost got hit by a car with my young son in the car and started to get to a point when it just didn't want to hardly start after trying for 10 or more minutes. took to the shop and after waiting for 3 days they told me it was the tipm module and would cost $1281.15 to fix. this was just today. i told him i don't have that kind of money. i went searching online wondering more about this issue and come to find so many people have this problem even a class action suit has been filed. this issue is dangerous. to stall in the middle of a street for no reason and then not be able to get your car started again is beyond scary. when this many people have the same problem with the same module something has to be done. even someone in my own city had to wait for the part on back order. a recall must be done before someone is hurt or killed, please!
