chrysler crossfire convertible 2005 Complaints

STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS

while parked in our garage the rear glass window separated from the convertible top. a phone call was made to naples chrysler and was immediately told that a new top was necessary and to come in for a diagnostic. brought car in for diagnostic and after showing them our extended warranty pamphlet was told convertible top was not covered under warranty or recall. phone call made to extended warranty people and chrysler rep. was later told by warranty people that car would be fixed under "good will" provision. however, chrysler decided to reglue the glass and not properly fix the problem by giving a new top as they initially recommended. also because the car was purchased in pa and later shipped to florida and has been there since 2006 the recall supposedly didn't apply to us. the proper fix was a new top. the fix with the so called extended warranty was a sham. *js

the rear window glass on the roadster has separated from the roof lining. i have been told that it can not be repaired only replaced. this presents a safety hazard when the adhesive fails completely and the glass falls out on a roadway or turns into a projectile inside the car while driving. very costly to the consumer to repair should be recalled as it looks like there are many others with the same problem. this car only has 40,000 miles on it.

purchased this vehicle in april of this year, from a chrysler dealer. it came with a plastic window, which i found out, is not factory/standard. the dealer refused to take care of it. found out about the x31 and sb-23035-11reva bulletin, contacted chrysler about it, got turned down because we are the 4th owners of the car, and it was 3,000 over the 100k mile limit. i wrote sergio marchionne, the ceo of chrysler, got a review, but was turned down again. told that it "would not make good business sense" to fix my car! what!!? the problem is widespread, and since chrysler has owned up, they should continue to be a good manufacturer, and take care of their customers, original or not. the condition is dangerous.

the rear window of the convertible, the adhesive has failed and the back window is ready to fall out.the bottom of the window has completely come unglued. i am afraid to drive my car very far, i am afraid the rear window is going to fall out. i have researched this problem and have learned that chrysler has admitted to this problem. there is a bulletin number{sb-23035-11r} for this problem. i have called the local chrysler dealership and got the run around. i then called chrysler complaint dept. and still got no where. the more i research the more i find out. chrysler is only fixing a select few. under the equal protection law, chrysler is not allowed to just select a few, but instead should be fixing all, since they have admitted there is a problem with the back window falling out and adhesive not holding. *js

was driving down a city street and started hearing banging from the back of the car. pulled over and saw that rear window had disengaged from the convertible rag top. have read hundreds of the same complaints pertaining to the 2005 only. supposedly chrysler has admitted it was a defect. unfortunately my vin # does not quality and i have 137,000 miles on the car. i have been advised that the window cannot be reglued and the only answer is a brand new top costing thousands of dollars. chrysler knew of this defect years ago and did not notify anyone. it seems to happen where the weather is warm. it was close to 100 degrees when this happened. i was getting ready to get on the highway and who knows the damage it would have caused my car and another car driving behind me if the window had come off. if i had been made aware, i would have had it checked. why has there not been a recall?

one night parked my car in perfect condition, next morning 5/22/2012, came out and the back window is becoming unglued! i immediately contacted two dealerships and they said they would have to send it out for a new soft top and glass window which would be about $3,000. are you kidding me! then i looked on line and there are multiple complaints of the rear window in the 2005 crossfire. contacted chrysler and they will not assist you. you reach a customer service person that takes the info and we will get back to you after investigation. each time they call to say they are still checking into the situation, frustrates you more and more. i ended up ordering the window and top from a place the dealership gave me and am waiting for it to come in. in the meantime, i drive the car with a towel placed between the metal and loose window to prevent rattling and hope the window doesn't unstick from the top of which 20" are still glued! never again, chrysler should stand behind their products!

VISIBILITY

this vehicle has a design flaw. the rear glass on the convertible top comes unglued from the canvas creaating a very dangerous condition whereby the glass can act like a projectile traveling either forward, injuring or killing the passengers, or backwards, wreaking havoc on vehicles behind. chrysler is aware of this condition yet most of the employees i have come in contact with claim to have never heard about it. there are hundreds or more vehicles involved. chrysler has adopted a policy of randomly choosing to repair some vehicles while not repairing others. they have rejected my claim twice, while other owners i have spoken with with the same problem are awaiting repairs as soon as next week. they have claimed that they are only fixing cars in certain states. california is not one of them, although i would think that they sold many crossfire roadsters here. i think it is reckless and dangerous for chrysler to maintain this dangerous condition.

the rear window delaminated from the convertible top and is falling out. chrysler is well aware of the issue and has admitted there was a problem with the adhesive. they have failed to recall the tops of this car and it a serious safety issue. they are hand picking who gets replacement roofs. the cost of the roof is 2,000 chrysler has an x31 extended warranty that covers this issue but not everyone qualifies. the car needs a recall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! shame on chrysler and they're very poor customer service!!!!

as i was driving across a bridge on the inter coastal waterway in melbourne florida, the top piece of the metal windshield molding was blown loose from the vehicle and slammed against the top. if the top had been down, passengers could have possible been seriously injured. damage to other vehicles could have occurred and/or injury to pedestrians was possible. i was not able to locate the metal molding.

i have a 2005 chrysler crossfire convertible, the key does not turn. my car does not turn on. the steering wheel is locked. this is a big safety issue. this seems to be a very big issue as i found posting from other people on the internet with the same issue. all the posting states that the ignition goes bad without any warning. chrysler is not addressing this issue. i think the ignition switch needs to be replaced.

rear window adhesive failure in convertible top. chrysler has issued a technical service bullitin # x31 which covers cost of repairs but only for cars that were delivered to certain southern states but, all 05 crossfires were built in the same plant in belgium and should be covered. failure of any window is not considered normal wear and tear. covering only some vehicles is unfair business practice.

2005 chrysler convertible top recall. the car was parked in my driveway. the rear glass window had separated from the convertible top. i could not believe it. i bought this car just two short years ago with only 12,000 miles on it. a neighbor of mine has the same vehicle and the same thing happened. there are hundreds of these i have since found out. chrysler had a recall on this top and they replaced his top for free and gave him a lifetime warranty on it. when i called the chrysler recall department they said my vin# did not qualify for replacement because my car was shipped to virginia and not a southern state. that is pure junk. a defect is a defect no matter where the car was originally shipped to. if i had a birth defect would it matter what state i was born in where the defect originated? no, someone out there would care and not discriminate. give me a break chrysler. give good customer service and do the right thing. i sent a fedex letter to two of chrysler's administrative officers a week ago and have not received a response. i am now going to a local chrysler dealer who is going to replace it with a dealer top for $2500 with a very limited warranty. i can't wait any longer to replace this top. the dealer is being kind and giving me a discount because they know it is wrong that their company is not replacing this defective top. this is so bad. such a beautiful car.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

literally the day after the return period on our 2005 crossfire convertible was up, we found out that this car has a major defect where the back window falls out due to failure of the adhesive. this issue is widespread and is a real safety hazard. apparently the entire top typically needs to be replaced if this happens, not just a re-glue job. the car has less than 17,000 miles and i've driven it probably less than 50 miles since buying, yet now i am faced with a big repair bill to make the car safe. chrysler should cover this top in *any* case where it occurs (not just in the few southern states they have deemed applicable for coverage). i am in va, and that's where the car was originally delivered. anybody who says va doesn't have high heat and humidity is crazy. we are just 75 miles from nc, a covered state. this is terribly unfair and i feel like a schmuck. chrysler should be forced to recall all of these tops, not pick and choose! how can a window falling out of the car not be considered a major violation by chrysler? can the ntsb do anything to help?

rear window came out of the convertible top after purchasing 1 month earlier. sounds like this is a very common problem but there is not a registered recall for it. this is obviously a manufacturing defect that should be fixed.
