VISIBILITY

2012 chevrolet traverse. consumer states several issues with vehicle to include windows and seat issues *tgw the consumer stated if the middle row passenger windows were partially rolled down, they would vibrate and make a horrible noise ash she accelerated and exceeded 30 mph. the panel between each of the side and rear windows was extremely large and provided a major blind spot on both sides of the vehicle particularly when backing up or changing lanes. the consumer added small mirrors to assist with the visibility. both front seat squeaked or creaked when they were occupied. *jb

STRUCTURE:BODY:HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE:HINGE AND ATTACHMENTS

tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet traverse. the contact stated that she opened the power lift-gate to retrieve luggage from the rear and as the gate opened she saw some of the luggage about to fall and reached inside the vehicle. at that point, the lift-gate stopped opening and began to close. the power lift-gate then closed on the contact, breaking her hand. the dealer and manufacturer had not been contacted at the time of the complaint. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 7,000. updated 08/28/12*lj the consumer stated further x-rays revealed, a broken wrist, bruised bones and nerve damage. updated 08/29/12

AIR BAGS

traveling approximately 55mph we were hit on the rear passenger side damage to the rear passenger tire well and rear right side on the body with extensive damage underneath. no airbags deployed at anytime in the vehicle. it was taken to the dealer's collision and repair shop and after several weeks it was returned. within a week of getting it back the service airbag light came on, we took it back to collision repair center thinking it was an issue with the accident but the collision repair sent it to the dealership saying it was a warranty issue. i've taken this vehicle back 4 times now for the same service airbag light. dealership service department supervisor keeps telling me it's an issue with there not being a grease needed on the sensors and that they apply to each sensor as it comes up, now on the 4th trip back service department manager claims that isn't correct and it has nothing to do with the issue. each and every time i've taken this car in i have specifically asked if this is a safety issue and if it means my airbags are not working correctly every time i've been told, "no, your airbags are ok, there is no risk to you or your family." dropped car of for final research into this issue since light came on again this week and service manager tells me that yes it does mean my airbags are not operating properly and there is a safety issue here.

tl* the contact owns a 2012 chevrolet traverse. the contact stated that he applied the brakes however, the vehicle erroneously accelerated. the contact removed his foot from the brakes and the vehicle began to function normally. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 5,800. the vin was unavailable.

i did not have a accident but i am sending this with a concern about what might happen because of an incident. chevrolet traverse does not come with a spare, (temporary or full size) or jack. it also does not have a place to put a spare tire. i had a flat tire that could not be repaired and all that came with the vehicle is a can of sealant and air tank. now i will have to buy a spare and put it in back of my vehicle and this will be a huge safety issue. i bought this traverse for the 3rd row seating but will not be able to use it because i have no other place designated to put a spare other than just place in the back section. i have 4 small grandchildren and in case of an accident the tire will be a major concern but we live in an area where sometimes phone/onstar does not work so we have to have spare tires. everyone that i have told about this is shocked that it these vehicles does not come with at least a " temporary tire". i have contacted chevrolet and they want to charge $700 for the cable, tire, jack to be added to vehicle.

ENGINE

this vehicle has engine defect, which dangerously stops the car while driven. the chevrolet dealership tried to repair once but failed. i purchased this vehicle from chevrolet dealership in november of 2012. on september 28, 2013, the engine of my vehicle suddenly completely stopped running while i was driving it. i brought it back to "mac maik chevrolet" in houston for examination and repair. on october 11, 2013, the dealership gave it back to me assuring that they repaired it. two days later, on october 13, 2013, while i was driving on a road, at a speed of approximately 35 mph, the car again suddenly came to a halt, blocking the steering wheel, brakes and entire engine. the car ran into an intersection before it came to full stop in the middle of it. thankfully, no other car was in the intersection. it was dangerously close to an accident. the dealership now says that they found another problem and again assure that they fixed it. i made a complaint to general motors, which simply responded that they think it is now fixed. no reasonably prudent person would ever drive this car again. i was in extreme danger twice due to the defect. the dealership and gm do not want to take any action until someone gets into a serious accident.

received the following warnings all of the sudden: traction control off, traction control needs service, stabilitrak off, stabilitrak needs service. check engine light came on at the same time. vehicle began trying to stall. luckily, i was on a country road and could easily pull over quickly. all of the warnings went off after a minute and i resumed driving. every time i had to slow down and come to a stop, the automatic transmission would downshift very hard. after searching the internet to see what the issue could be, i found countless forums with countless people having the exact same issue, but some were in a more dangerous situation going highway speeds in traffic. of those people many of them have taken their vehicle to their gm dealerships and have spent hundreds and even thousands of dollars on failed attempts to fix it only to continue to have this problem. some will no longer allow other family members/children to ride in the vehicles due to the danger of stalling suddenly with no warning. i was shocked to see how many chevy models and years including brand new 2014's are having this exact issue and gm is doing very well at avoiding responsibility. the new owners are protected by lemon laws financially, but the only option for owners with a vehicle over a year old is to sell or trade in. either way, this is putting yet another unknowing consumer in danger and it is keeping these defective vehicles on the road where we and our loved ones drive everyday. the right and "safe" thing to do is for gm to take responsibility for a faulty product. the right thing for everyone else to do that isn't employed by or in gm's pocket is to report it and take action. it's about safety. that should be the priority, not money.

the service airbag light was on. took it in to the dealer. they replaced the front seat outboard seat back airbag. june 5 it went back in with the airbag light on again. they fixed a connector in the driver seat side airbag. oct 18 it went back in with the airbag light on. they replaced the front seat anchor plate tensioner. dec 31 it went back in with the airbag light on. they replaced the module and harness assy. feb 12 it went back in again. they replaced the wiring in passenger and driver side airbags. march 17 it went back in again. they offered me a new car.

between 5 and 7 times the dashboard message would appear with message stating service air bags. took to dealer on four occasions to fix. next a dashboard message would appear informing me of engine failure ,loss of power.the vehicle would slow down to no more than 20 mph. pulled over shut engine off and than it would be ok. next time about 5 days later the message again appeared when my wife was driving with grand kids. the engine slowed down to about 20 mph , while she was blending into traffic on a highway. had to pull over or be run over by traffic . took car to dealer for repair. next the vehicle developed a backlash in drive train, which is noisy. dealer said g.m had service bulletin on the noise and recommended ( do not repair) noise is typical. idid not have the noise for first 20,000 miles. afraid that this is another safety issue that g.m does not want to address. lost all confidence in vehicle safety. g.m won't buy the vehicle back or give a realistic trade in value for it.

the doors unlock when the car is put in park. this is normal in some models but they do not unlock in other models of the same car. this is a safety factor as it lets any one get in to the car when the car is parked. this is discrimination and should be fixed. thank you.

i was driving through a parking lot and the stabillitrack light came on, the check engine light flashed and the traction control light came on. the driver center said the traction control shut off and it also stated to service stabillitrack. the engine seemed to slow itself as well. i parked the vehicle and waited a few minutes. the warning lights finally went off on their own and the traction control turned back on, on it's own. the car seemed ok driving home for 2 miles and engine power seemed to return to normal but there seems to be some hesitation in the transmission shifting at low speeds too. i called the dealer and the soonest they can get me in to check the car is monday. i asked if it was safe to drive and they would not commit to safety or reliability but refused provide any relief until monday and gave me no offer of a loaner car. i just did some investigating online to research what the cause of this problem might be and it appears that this is a very common problem with this vehicle and it can occur at high speeds on the highway. many forums list many people with this complaint. i am concerned this could occur again and cause an accident. the problem looks to be intermittent and will occur without warning at any speed. in my opinion this is a safety problem which needs to be taken seriously. i am fearful for my families safety in this vehicle.

opened the lift gate with the key fob, made a loud noise when fully extended and immediately started shutting while i was getting something out of the back. don't know if the door would have bounced back up if it hit me and would have started coming back down again since it doesn't stay up. used manual mode and door does not stay up. googled it and apparently there have been problems since 2007 with the power lift gate in the saturn outlook, acadia, traverse, enclave, and equinox.

the service airbag and seat belt reminder light intermittently is coming on on driver dashboard. happens with passenger is in the front seat. the passenger and driver were both bucked up. took it to a service center and there are no codes stored. system is checking out with pass when it is checked. there are no fail indicators. both recalls have been repaired with the seat belt and the airbag system wiring harness and the issue is still recurring.

STEERING

driver began to feel and hear a rubbing noise coming from the wheel well. when trying to make a low speed left turn off of a primary road into the entrance of a business, the steering completely locked up and the driver was unable to turn and was stuck in the middle of the opposing lane of traffic. fortunately for the driver and passengers, there was no oncoming traffic and the driver was able to manually steer (with difficulty against a lot of resistance from the steering wheel) the car back into the correct lane and continued on until pulling over in a safe location on the same block.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

while driving my children to school a warning light came on to check power charging system but then it went off. a few minutes later my air conditioning shut off and the power saving mode light came on followed a few minutes by the battery warning light. later that evening i had my husband follow me to a nearby auto shop to have the car checked out. the air would not even come on and i drove less than 2 miles to the shop. near the auto shop after having the car checked out and told to replace the battery i attempted to drive home with the intent to return the next day since it was closing time and no work could be done. the car expeinced a complete power failure at a major intersection. the altenator had failed on a car less than 3 years old and under 50,000 miles. i have done research and this is a fairly common issue with the 2012 traverse and is not considered a flaw or cause for concern or recall. does someone need to die before this problem is addressed?

POWER TRAIN

during regular scheduled maintenance, was told that the power steering great needs replacement because it is leaking ($1500). not covered under warranty. strangely enough, my 2010 chevrolet tahoe had the same problem at 32,000 miles but was covered under bumper to bumper warranty. this is not a coincidence in my opinion.
