my 2011 chevy traverse was parked in the garage for over an hour when my husband walked in the garage and heard a crackling noise. he began walking around trying to find the noise and saw the back window of the traverse slowing cracking. when he first observed - there was no holes - only cracking. the cracking continued for unknown length of time. two holes in the center formed as glass fell out. by the next morning, one large hole in the center had formed. the glass appears to bulge out from the inside of the car. the edges of the glass all around the perimeter of the window are gone. temp outside was around 72 degrees. nothing unusual about weather or temp on this day.

defective braking system includes stabilitrak and abs system. the brand new vehicle has been serviced five times for braking failure. while waiting at a traffic light the abs kicked in and the brake went to the floor. the sensors have been changed/debris cleaned/and frayed wires replaced. the vehicle is still not repaired.

vehicle was traveling east on i-64 in norfolk, va. occupants smelt fuel and pulled over. witnesses advised that immediately pulling over the vehicle was on fire in the engine compartment and within 60 seconds the fire was observed in the front driver passenger seat area. the driver and passenger had moved to the back seat area to try and free a 4 year old child from the car seat. the female passenger then exited the rear driver window suffering critical burns in the fire. the male driver expired in the back seat of the vehicle. bystanders removed the child.

when reversing out of my driveway i cannot put it in drive or stop it. i had to put it in park turn it off and press the emergency brakes in order for it to stop rolling down the hill. this has now occurred approximately 4x. last night it happened again but the emergency brake didn't work the engine made a whining/screeching noise and the car slammed into rocks and a fire hydrant. which tore off my back bumper. i had brought this to the attention of the dealership when i brought it in for service and they couldn't find anything wrong with my car. after it happened an additional 3 times they told me to call them the next time it happened and they would come pick it up. since this happened again last night they have yet to pick it up. they were closed and wont be open again until around 8am central time. i am fortunate that this did not happen on a major roadway.

while in the drive position on a hill at a stop sign or traffic signal, i removed my foot from the brake. the vehicle began to roll back almost hitting the vehicle behind me. it startled me and almost hit the car behind. in the second incident, my wife was pulling back from parking spot which has a slight incline (ground level in front is a bit lower than that in the back). she removed her foot from the brake after trying to park out with the gear 'r', the vehicle now began to roll forward almost hitting a little stone. my wife was terrified. we further tested the vehicle on various hills/inclines both in drive and reverse and it continued to roll in the opposite direction of the engaged gear. apparently, this is a characteristic of the automatic transmission on this vehicle, and it does not have "hill-hold" or "hill assist". however, since this family suv carries is being driven by mothers, and this might cause the serious safety issue. i saw there are a lot of complains of the same case, this issue should be brought up and chevrolet should do some action on this.

this chevy traverse rolls back when stopping at a stop sign on a hill. when you attempt to take off, you really have to rev up the engine or it will roll back. this happens on any incline no matter size. the dealer stated this is how the car is designed. what manufacturer would design something like that? my 16 year old is driving now, and i won't allow her to drive this vehicle because of safety issues. i would like to trade this car in for something safer, but that would not be economically smart since i just purchased it 7 months ago. i also think the headrest need to be redesigned. they protrude toward your head and pushes your head forward. not comfortable at all. i wish i could have test drove this car for week, i would have never purchased it. i do love the style and room in it. that's probably what i was sold on. however, the room in the vehicles means nothing, when i'm afraid to have my children riding with me in this unsafe vehicle. gm needs to do something about it.

my chevy traverse rolls back when stopped at a stop sign on a hill before applying the gas, when you attempt to take off, you really have to rev up the engine or leave your foot on the brake while applying the gas or it will roll back. this happens on any incline no matter size. the dealer stated this is how the car is designed. what manufacturer would design something unsafe like that? i fear for my safety in the snow and ice. my second incident involved backing out of my garage, i backed approx 4 ft and then had to go over a 3" speed bump, but my car wouldn't continue to go backwards, until i revved up to 2000 rpms. then if finally made it over the 3" hump. they say this is normal for the 6 speed transmission i have because of the "green' environment changes made to give it more fuel economy. green environment over safety what is our government thinking, if this is really the truth. i am now concerned i will not be able to keep my car in my garage, when the snow and ice fall as i won't be able to rev it that high or i will wreck my vehicle into the side of my garage. i would like for gm to make this right and if not and i have a wreck they pay when my insurance goes up due to their poor design!! i do love the style and room in my suv. that's probably what i was sold on as well as the color. however, the room in the vehicles means nothing, when i'm afraid i am going to crash into someone behind me. this is absolutely an unsafe vehicle. gm needs to do something about it.

the vehicle always roll backs when you are stopped on a slope. this happens to me at all times when i am picking up kids from school and have a stop sign at a slope. the slope is not very steep and other car i have does not have this problem. just bizzare that you really have to accelerate your way out, even then the car rolls back....almost hit another vehicle behind me.

the heating and cooling lines going to the rear heating and cooling of vehicle are in direct line of anything kicked up from the from right wheel. should these lines be crushed or broken open, a complete coolant loss will occur. these coolant should be shielded from road debris.

purchased 2011 traverse on monday, by tuesday evening the traction control and the stabilitrak service soon codes were showing. the present mileage is 440 and this started around 350 miles on odometer. also, while backing out of driveway on incline put car in drive and let off brake began pressing gas, the car continued to roll backwards until i pressed the brake and got on the gas at the same time.

pullling up to the airport parking as i was getting my ticket to enter the parking lot the gate open and i step on the gas to continue when the truck shifted to the right being in between two barriers the truck did had minor scratches on the right bumper when it shifted to the right i could not go forward or reverse i got off to see what was wrong and i saw something under the right tire i got back in the car but could not move i got off again and took a good look and i saw the tired rod was broken the inside look like an explosion on the inner right side i call onstar and they provided me with a tow truck we took it to the dealer where it was bought on monday my husband call and they said they couldnt cover it cause it was due to a collision we said but we didnt crash or hit anything only when it shifted but had nothing severe on the body they said no contact your insurance we call chevrolet corporation and they said they believe the mechanics and they were not going to fix anything so they made our insurance pay for the damage which we believe its very unfair having a warranty we got the vehicle back and we hear a noise the tires has 2 gashes it took them 2 days to call back and said nothing is wrong with the vehicle and the tire at the moment they check it was not like that but now they notice is damage and they made us call our insurance again because they were not going to pay for anything or fix it. i believe this is the worst service and most of all i could of lost my life due to this incident or lost my baby since i am pregnant. i have pictures to prove where and what happen to it also tow truck man said it was the axle/tire rod when he pick it up.

i am writing to inform you of a recent safety issue we had with our 2011 chevrolet traverse. on wednesday, april 25, 2012, i was parked in said vehicle with the keys out of the ignition, pumping gas at smokin joes on indian hill in lewiston. i had all three of my children, ages 8, 6, and 5 in the vehicle. while pumping gas, my vehicle began to roll, ripping the gas nozzle from my car, spilling gas. i began to run after my car and thankfully it stopped just before entering oncoming traffic. i thank the grace of god that my children were not injured�my husband looked at the gear shifter and he was able to pop it out of gear without the key in the ignition and his foot off the brake pedal. on thursday, april 26, 2012 i took my car into kipo. they looked at my vehicle and also confirmed our findings, that the car does, in fact, slip out of gear when the key is out of the ignition and the foot is off the brake pedal�contact with bill wirtheim, gm of paddock chevrolet, where we purchased the vehicle. mr. wirtheim contacted general motors, who then declared my vehicle under gm investigation. a driver from paddock came to our home to pick up our vehicle. we were contacted by justin,a representative from gm on may 3. gm return phone call from him until monday, may 7. he just wanted a recap of what happened. that same day, my husband followed up with paddock, who claimed they believed the vehicle to have been already repaired by kipo, which it was not. this afternoon, bill wirtheim contacted my husband and told him they will fix the vehicle and we can have it back. apparently there was a liquid that had previously spilled over the gear shifter that shorted out. we are not satisfied with this response. this wasn't just an issue of a gear shifter shorting out while parked in our driveway. our children were in the car that was parked on an incline of a busy gas station and intersection and could have been killed.

the traverse was parked in the lot of the local grocery store, when started and placed in reverse it backed up just fine, however putting it in drive it broncoed up and would only go 30 miles per hour. this has happened 3 times . now the power steering unit whines, the seats in the back do not recline well and the middle seat belt in the middle seat locks and i am unable to secure my 2 year old in his carseat. i am not pleased at all with the 2011 traverse, i should have stuck to my first thoughts and bought the suburbon that i know. the traverse is the worst vehicle i have ever owned, while it was being repaired at the dealership, they offered me another one to drive....i laughed, i went and rented a yukon. now when i go out of town i rent a vehicle my $40,000.00 traverse sit in the driveway as a lawn ornament. chevrolet in florida got me real good, now they state i am upside down in this vehicle and am not able to trade without a big down payment. funny they sell me a lemon and i can't even make lemonade with it. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt

when stopped on any type of grade from approximately 2% or greater, with transmission in drive, the vehicle will roll backwards when moving the right foot from depressing the foot brake to the accelerator in preparation to continue in the forward direction. when the vehicle was taken to the dealership for service reference this complaint, we were advised that this is common in the newer four and six cylinder travers and malibu and that they are still functioning as designed. i feel this is a safety issue even though it may not result in reportable crashes or injuries, the number of incidents related to this issue could be in the hundreds, yet due to most damage not being of a reportable nature it could be years before enough people report this and chevrolet takes notice. thank you for your time and consideration reference this issue. fyi, your system did not recognize my listed vin, but i copied it straight from my vin plate.

i was driving 65 mph when the accelerator pedal stuck and accelerated to 85 mph. the brakes were disabled for approx 5-7 seconds. after 5-7 seconds passed, the brake system began to work again and i was able to slow down and eventually stop the car.

tl* the contact rented a 2011 chevrolet traverse. the contact stated that while traveling 60 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration power, as well as traction control. the vehicle was able to be driven to the dealer where it was confirmed that the throttle body failed. the contact also stated that the windshield wipers failed due to cold weather temperatures. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 47,450 and the current mileage was 47,950. the consumer stated the dash displayed a message that said trak sys failed, soon followed by another message indicating the engine power had been reduced. the vehicle went from 60 mph to approximately 20 mph and the engine began to shudder with a feeling of loss of firing cylinders, and loss of vehicle steering control. the consumer called the renal car company, and he was advised to shut the vehicle off, wait 15 seconds and restart it. over the next two miles the consumer could not get the vehicle to go over 15 mph and the trak came back on with the shuddering of the engine.

i was trailering a boat on tandem axle trailer within the trailering rating for the traverse, but near the nigh end. it was raining and we hydroplaned but the hydroplaning stopped after a second and we continued. then it happened again and we slowed down and it didn't happen any further. i've trailered with my 2004 silverado many times and don't believe this would have happened with it. this was the first time using the traverse and i thought it was working okay, except for the hydroplaning. i think what may have happened is that the trailer was pushing down on the back of the vehicle lifting up on the front and thus reducing traction with the front wheels. i don't think the tongue weight was too high or excessive. at any rate, i don't know if i was just being unsafe by traveling that speed with the rain, or if the rating for the traverse's trailering tongue weight should be reduced or if someone should have to initial a safety document anytime they put a hitch on their vehicle stating they understand the extra hydroplaning possibilities while trailering or what. but i wanted to report what happened in case it is happening to others as well. i also had trouble pulling my boat out of the water with only 2wd. i had to get an assist from another vehicle. if it was only for the hydroplaning issue, i would trailer with this vehicle again. however, without 4wd to pull the boat out of the water, there is no way i will use it again. (and that also speaks to the traction being less when the tongue has some weight on it.) the dealership should have advised me to get 4wd since they knew i would be trailering a boat.

the radio unit emits a very high frequency noise whether the vehicle is running or not. this causes headaches on a regular basis. gm is apparently aware of this issue but is stating that it is normal operation and not offering any options to repair or replace the offending unit causing the high frequency noise. many people have reported this problem across different models in multiple forums.

i first took my vehicle into jim ball pontiac a gm certified dealer in orchard park, ny because of a whining noise by engine. they told me it was a leak in power steering box and serviced it. the. ext day after i picked up the vehicle i was driving up to an intersection to make a left and the vehicle began whining really loud. my steering locked up during my left hand turn cause me to drive head on with 2 other vehicles that were traveling about 50 mph. i was able to avoid accident and after i pulled over the steering was normal in about 20 seconds. the vehicle was relooked at jim ball and they blamed it on a bubble in the line. i opened a case with gm regarding this and i'm not getting much help.

we were moving from south carolina to wisconsin which is a 1,000 mile trip. on the morning of february 9th, 2013 we were about to enter cincinnati on the second leg of our trip when all the sudden the dash displayed a message that said trak system failed, soon followed by another message indicating the engine power had been reduced. the vehicle went from 60 mph to approximately 20 mph and the engine began to shudder with a feeling of loss of firing cylinders, and loss of vehicle steering control. so we pulled over, read the book, and shut the car off like it said, waited 15 seconds and then turned the car back on. the car was fine and we finished that leg of the trip hoping nothing else would happen. it happened on a very busy stretch of i-75n near covington, ky and it could have caused a crash. my entire family was in the car. so i called and spoke to a gm technician at tire discounters in cincinnati who stated it probably is your throttle body as he had just repaired the same issue on another gm car. being that it was saturday, there was nothing i could do and we had to still travel an additional 300 miles to wisconsin. the car only had 45,000 miles on it the day of incident. the next day february 10 2013 we continued our trip and right in the middle of indiana the same issue happened and again we took the same action. again it could have caused an accident but we were able to pull over. on tuesday february 19, 2013 i took the car in to be looked at by andrew chevrolet in glendale, wi and the diagnosis was the same. the throttle body had gone bad and would need to be repaired for $519.00. the service manager stated that they too had changed them on multiple cars. gm needs to recall the 2011 traverse and repair this part before someone gets in an accident and gets killed. i also noticed this is the second time in three months nhtsa has received a complaint about this issue. udpated 03/14/13

the chevy traverse has been in the dealership 5 times since may of 2012 for sudden traction control and stabilitrak error messages . once these messages pop up ont he car they are always followed by a reduced power message which immediately shuts off the car while driving. the car will not accelerate or function normally once this happens. chevy has yet to be able to fix the problem.

while stopped and positioned facing uphill, the vehicle, when placed in drive, will roll downhill unless the accelerator is pressed. while stopped and positioned facing downhill, the vehicle, when placed in reverse, will roll downhill unless the accelerator is pressed. the rolling is not limited to inches or a couple of feet. the rolling was stopped by applying the brake after rolling over 10 feet. the 2011 traverse is an all wheel drive with automatic transmission.

shortly after purchasing brand new car we noticed small rust-colored specks all over the vehicle, mostly on the rear of the car. after several inspections, muzi ford in needham, ma diagnosed this as "brake dust" from the type of brakes on this vehicle. they said there was nothing that could be done to prevent the specks, but that the only fix was expensive buffing/wet sanding treatments by their body shop that would have to be done 1-2 times per year, and they also said we should wash our car weekly. our vehicle is still under warranty. each buff costs approx $400. we believe this is a design flaw that the manufacturer should cover.

was at target one evening and noticed a sweet unusual smell coming from the traverse. i took a look underneath the car and noticed pink substance dripping from the engine. upon leaving target i noticed that the arm on the temperature gauge was higher than normal. i drove 40mph for a mile and the gauge shot up to the top. i was 25 minutes from home. i had to stop 6 times to let the engine cool down in order to make it home and i had all four of my kids in the car with me as well. it totally freaked them out. i had to rent a car for the weekend as i needed transportation to get around. i had a company that will come to your home to fix your car. found out it was my fuel pump. after 4 hours of labor and $400.00 later it was fixed. four months later, today may 10, 2013 as i'm driving home from work, the car begins to beep and the traction control light and abs light comes on and service stabilitrak system and traction control off displays in the display window. it seemed as if it was hard to accelerate as well. this is the 2nd thing that is probably going to be fairly expensive to fix that has happened to this car. it is the weekend and now have to try and find a place to take my car and have it serviced. seeing now that there have been several complaints with this specific component on the car, chevrolet needs to recall this car and fix this. this is very dangerous and could cause an accident. i think it's ridiculous to have to continue to pay for things that continue to break down on this vehicle. i am a single parent and cannot continue to financially be able to do this.

high pitched squeal/squeaky noise coming from the steering column when turning either left or right at all forward speeds, reverse and stationary. my local dealership where i purchased the vehicle new says this is a problem with the "rack and pinion assembly" and has been a recall item on 2009 & 2010 traverses, but not on the 2011-2013. they examined the vehicle (for a cost of $39.95) and said they could repair it for $435.54, but said it would not be a problem to drive it as is until it gets worse of affects the steering operation. they have done 2 such repairs on 2011 models. i believe that as this is happening at 29 months (since newly purchased by myself) and at such a low mileage to have steering issues, i would think this must be a persistent design/engineering defect. i hope the nhtsa and saferar.gov would initiate a recall. my wife drives 140 mile trips often to visit our daughter's family and our grandchildren often ride with her in the traverse and we have driven the traverse to myrtle beach, kitty hawk, nc, pennsylvania and mississippi and i am concerned for my family's safety. chevrolet usa should step up to correct the problem at their cost. i have noted one other report of this steering problem on this website and those who my dealership said paid for the fix on their traverses. there are certain to be many more who haven't reported the issue to you and i urge you to initiate the recall. thank you.

around may 11, 2012, on the ohio turnpike, accelerating to 65 mph, my car began to make a loud repetitive noise under the hood. after a few miles, a battery service light came on. the car began to overheat and become difficult to steer. as i reached a pullover, the power steering failed and everything else quit working (radio, lights, etc.) i turned the car off and could not turn it back on. when the car was towed, we found the belt was shredded and dragged behind the car. i was told there was a problem with the water pump. the car was about 11 mos old and had about 11,000 miles on it. on june 2, 2013, deja vu. as i left a store and accelerated to 45 mph, my car began to make a loud repetitive noise under the hood. as i accelerated, the noises were louder and faster. i drove about 5 miles to walmart, the noises continued, so i drove home, about 5 miles. in the morning, i drove the car very slowly because i thought the belt was shredding again, and as i drove more slowly, the noise (from the pieces of the belt slapping around the engine) became less and i hoped i could make the belt last until i got to the dealer. the service battery light came on and when i turned left at an intersection near the dealership, the car was very hard to steer and i could barely turn into the dealership. the driver following me said he could see the shredded belt dragging. i learned there had been other cars on which the belt had shredded and that there was a service bulletin to put a lining in to protect the belt from damage, not sure if this had been done on my car i learned there is also a recall related to the water pump. in both cases, i was fortunate not to be in heavy traffic, near trucks, or passing on a country road. this seems very dangerous to me.

took vehicle to dealer on wednesday 06 / 05 / 13 squeaking noise / wining / it sounds like coming from steering wheel when turning the steering wheel left or right. chevy dealer further inspected and found noise to be coming from steering gear housing. recommended putting on revised housing to correct this condition and recommended to be installed and flush system to convert to atf. told must perform this procedure to get rid of noise. gm should repair knowing they have this problems with steering gear housing with no charge.

my wife had just dropped the kids off at school and was about 10 minutes away from home. after about five minutes of driving a series of chimes emitted from the car and the dash flashed a light indicating a problem with the abs system, followed by another series of dings and a burning smell. she then pulled over, turned off the car, and waited approximately a minute. upon turning on the car she heard another ding and the service lights remained on. she was able to slowly drive home but the car emitted a "grinding noise" and the heat gauge was slightly higher than normal. upon getting home she checked under the car but did not see any fluids under the car. we have scheduled a mechanic to look at the car tomorrow.

i was parking, backing into parking spot going maybe 2 to 3 miles and hour, tried to put car into park, was a little difficult. then tried to take key out of ignition switch and key would not come out. then realized windows would not roll down (all 4). i locked the keys in the car with the locking fob. later in the day a person came to me and said my lights and radio were on, due to the fact i had different people try to get the keys out of the ignition thought out the night i know the radio was off while we talked about how to get the keys out. the next morning i took the car into the dealer to be fixed. i have a warranty after market on the car. the dealer said the warranty company will not cover repairs. i am trying to find out if others have had this same problem.

my wife returned from the dealership after receiving an oil change and tire rotation. she parked the car in the driveway at the house and exited the vehicle. after about 10 minutes my family got in the vehicle. i smelled a burning odor while walking to the vehicle. my wife cranked the vehicle and immediately there was white smoke coming from under the hood. i opened the hood and there was a fire burning in the engine compartment. we got the family out of the car and i grabbed a water hose and put the flames out. after about 15 minutes i noticed that smoke was again coming from the engine compartment. i disconnected the cable from the positive terminal in the engine compartment and the smoked stopped. i was told by the dealership that the battery cable caught fire because it was not sufficient enough to handle the electrical load of the vehicle and that the replacement cable was much thicker and more insulated. these cables need to be replaced immediately before there is a loss of life.

when you try to turn the steering wheel and the car is in drive to come out of a parking space, the steering wheel will not turn. periodically while driving and making left turns primarily, the power steering is gone. you have to turn the wheel very hard to make a left turn. this happens daily in all weather conditions, both day and night. i took the vehicle to the dealer, and was told this is normal. however, each day, it becomes harder and harder to turn the steering wheel. i can not make any sudden turns, because the steering wheel will not turn and i am scared that my car will be hit, because i am not always able to turn the steering wheel.

my wife was driving home from a department store with my three children in the vehicle when a light came on in the dashboard and said engine hot. she pulled over and called me. i told her to check the coolant tank. she sent me a picture from her phone. it was full but the vehicle was overheating. she had to stop 3 times on the way home and we live no more than 12 minutes from the department store. when she got home she looked under the vehicle and said there was a small puddle. she has an appointment in a few days at the dealership to get it checked out. i am just not sure we can even drive the traverse to the dealership safely.

i was driving home from san diego to az with my 3 kids when all of the sudden all my warning dash lights started flashing, the radio lost power and i lost power steering. this went on for about 1 min and then everything went away and the radio turned back on and the car seemed to be fine. five mins later the same thing happened so i exited the freeway in alpine ca, and drove to the only mechanic in the entire town. after an hour the mechanic came and told me my key was bad and that the computer wasn't responding at all to it. luckily for me i had the spare and he tried that key and it too wouldn't start the car. at this point the mechanic said i'd have to leave the car with him for further diagnosing. i then rented a car and headed to az for the weekend. the day after they had my car they called me and said the car started up with no problem and now they were going to try to recreate the problem. after 2 days and $438.00 they found nothing wrong with my car. i came and picked up my car and everything seemed fine for a few weeks then i went to start it one day and no power, the vehicle wasn't recognizing my keys at all. i popped the trunk and looked around the tried to restart the vehicle and it started fine. now a month later i drive to go pick up my daughter at a friends house at night and turn the car off for 10 mins and it won't start again. the car has power because all the dash warn lights are going off again but it won't start. i ended up leaving my car and walking home with my 3 kids again at night. i'm sure tomorrow it will start just fine but i need to take it to the dealership but can't afford for them to not fix it again and just hand me a bill for the time spent on it! any ideas????? please help i don't have money to throw away, this is a new car basically and this is crazy!

i was driving on a state highway with nowhere to pull safely off the road when the throttle body failed. this failure caused the engine control computer to set the engine to "reduced power mode" where i could not drive the car past 20 mph with the engine barely running. i had to drive the vehicle for about 1/2 mile in this condition before i could get the car off the road. this happened on a dark winding stretch of road where traffic normally moves at around 45 mph so there was a significant potential for a rear end collision with a car speeding up behind me.

driving on the highway and all of a sudden there was an alert on the dashboard saying that "traction control off" then immediately after another alert came on stating that "engine power has been reduced". i was unable to accelerate fully. i turned the car off and back on and it reset it but the same alerts came back on minutes later. the next day i took it to the dealership and they said the throttle body had to be replaced. this seems to be a common occurrence for these vehicles and after researching online i have found hundreds of others that have had the same problem. this is extremely dangerous and chevy/gm should seriously consider recalling this part.

while traveling on the highway heading to the airport, we were going approximately 60mph.the engine light came on and truck began to power down. the traction control/stabili track light also came on and we were losing speed and could not accelerate. with other vehicles around us were going 60mph or more we had to try and get off highway to side of road before our truck lost power all together. we then shut off the truck let it sit for few minutes and then turned truck back on. we were then able to pull back on to highway at full speed. it happened a two more times before we were able to reach our destination. three days later we were back in our truck leaving the airport heading home and within 5 minutes of being on the road our truck began to power down again, check engine light came on and stabili track light also came on. we had to again pull over but this time at least 5 times before we were able to make it home. it was a very dangerous and scary ordeal. we contacted atlantic chevy about the problem and we brought truck in a week later due to the fact that they said they did not have a loaner vehicle available for us. we were told that it was the throttle body and we were not covered since we were past our 3yr/36,000 miles warranty. after much research, we have found that we are one of many other gm customers who have had the same situation with their vehicle powering down in the middle of driving. this is not just a random problem with our vehicle but appears to be a defective problem with the part. customers are being expected to pay for this to be fixed when in fact it should be a recall on the part or it should be covered under the federal emissions warranty. i hope by us filing this complaint that it will be looked into further and that it will be handled in the way that satisfies all general motor customers who have had to deal with this problem. thank you.

there has been a leak in my chevy traverse 2011 for a long time but we had no idea because it was under the foam in the carpets. we found water in our battery compartment behind the seat. we had to remove the seats in the car and found black mold under the carpets. we have been so sick for awhile(daughter diagnosed with autism) chevy/gm wants to charge us 1400+ to fix the problem that has probably been going on since we purchased the car brand new in 2011. i am so saddened that our families safety is not chevy's priority. it has 48000 miles on it so it is out of the warranty window. no help from chevy to take the responsibility to fix this issue. have i mentioned they have had my car for over a week and still cannot figure out where the water is coming from??? oh and they didn't have a loner for us either.....

i was driving at 65 mph, and hit a small bump where a bridge ends and the pavement resumes. the check engine light came on as well as service stabiltrak and reduced engine power indicators. i was able to limp the vehicle to the local dealership for repairs, but at a very reduced speed. the dealer found that the "throttle position sensor" to be faulty, and after replacing that item the vehicle ran normally. this was not covered under warranty. the repair cost was $540. i am told that these are a common problem both by the dealer as well as by an independent shop. i am surprised that: 1. a part such as this is failing in a vehicle with so few miles 2. that this was not covered under any type of warranty.

i was driving my car and attempting to turn onto a busy street. all of a sudden the power steering failed and i almost was hit by a car going 35 miles because i wasn't able to turn into the right hand lane. because the steering wheel barely moved, i turned into the left lane of the street. this happened 3 more times before i brought the car to the shop. it seems this problem is occurring in many chevrolet traverses (as seen by the number of complaints about this issue and the class action lawsuit, aguilar v. general motors). i had to pay the dealership to fix my car and pay for a rental car while it was getting fixed. i am worried this problem will continue as it has in multiple chevrolet traverses manufactured in the same year. i believe my car is extremely unsafe for my family to be in and believe there should be a recall to fully fix this power steering issue.

the service airbag indicator randomly comes on. there are a couple of error messages "service airbag" or "service passenger airbag". we have repeatedly taken it to the dealer but despite trying they have been unable to fix the problem. chevy has issued two technical bulletins indicating that common devices like cell phones in the front seat may interfere with the sensors. the critical question is whether the airbags are working properly or in the worst case the cell phones are de-activating the airbags. the dealer has been unable determine whether the airbags are working properly when there are cell phones in the car and/or when the service indicator lights come on. this is the car used by my 17 year old daughter to drive herself and my son to school and i want to be assured that the air bags are working correctly and that the only problem is with a false service indicator. can you help get this assurance from chevy?

my check engine light came on wednesday, march 19, 2014. on friday morning, while driving to work, my car accelerated and then slowed down; going from approximately 70 mph to 15 mph. when i took it to the dealer they called me back and said the throttle body had gone bad and had to be replace. i was told by several other people that a throttle body should not be going bad this early in a car; as a matter if fact i have drive several cars well over 100,000 miles and never had a problem with the throttle body. this needs to be a recall because this is a family vehicle and many people are transporting precious family cargo. a car should not forcibly be decreasing from 70 to 15 mph. having a bad crash is an understatement. also the air conditioning has already had to be checked. this vehicle is putting a bad taste in my mouth. anymore problems and it will get traded in. i will not get another chevrolet for sure.

heard a noise in november 2013 but just once and didn't hear it again till january 2014 only when turning wheel. i thought i was imagining it cause nobody else noticed it when i was trying to have it checked. fluids where fine, no warning indicators. finally in march 2014 heard it again and starting researching what it could be. found a technical service bulletin about the steering problem. i contacted chevrolet about this since my car was out of warranty and they said it had to be diagnosed by a chevy dealership, so i scheduled to have it diagnosed. dealership said it is the power steering and that it has to be replaced. i asked what caused it and they said it is a design flaw and that they have seen it in the acadia, terrain and traverse vehicles. i called chevrolet back and reported the dealership findings and they are supposed to contact me with a solution on how they can help me with the repair since this is a design flaw and not something i caused.

while driving on the highway, multiple warnings and lights came on and speed was reduced by the engine to 20 mph from 65mph. if there had been another vehicle behind us at the time we would have easily been hit because of the rapid deceleration. the fix was to replace the throttle body on the engine. after much research this appears to be a very common issue in chevrolet vehicles, and because of the manner of the vehicle slowing down so rapidly i fear that there have probably already been accidents related to this issue.

on march 8, 2014, (2011 chevy traverse) i was turning right into a restaurant when my power steering went out. it took all of my strength and my 20 yr old son (passenger) to turn the wheel to get off the road. we almost went into the guardrail and could have very well been plowed into from the car behind us. in parking lot we checked steering fluid & added some. on way to our house about 2 hours later it happened again when i made a left turn. this time i went off the road a bit, inches away from hedges & someone's lawn. very dangerous. took it to chevy dealership who wanted over $1,800.00 to fix the power steering pump and rack & pinion. of course it was not under warranty!!! i ended up taking it to a private shop and paid $1,470. i agree that there should be a recall and we should get our money back. if you research this like i have done...there are a lot of people out there with the same problem. hope all of you file a compliant to force a recall !!!!

my vehicle has had a whining noise when steering. it also feels "loose" as if i'm not in complete control of the steering. i took the vehicle to the dealership and the service advisor stated that this is a very common problem and the steering could likely get worse if not serviced. he also stated that this is not an isolated incident and is very common. i have heard reports of owners of the same vehicles having lost control of steering. i have a three year old daughter and safety was a major factor in purchasing this vehicle. i do not feel safe knowing that this problem exists. i had the vehicle repaired at my own expense. general motors does have a bulletin on this problem so they are aware of the issue. however, i believe that the government should investigate as their might be consumers out there that are not aware of this safety issue. they may think that it is just a simple squeak and not as severe as i was made aware. thank you

in our 8 passenger traverse we have frequent trouble with the middle row, middle seat belt locking up when it is not used. the problem occurs when someone goes to buckle their belt in this seat - it will not disengage and we have to manipulate the seat or the area around the where the seat belt retracts into the seat to get it to disengage. sometimes it becomes so difficult or time consuming we have to move that person to the 3rd row seating in the far back. it is only this seat belt that does this and after conducting an internet search, we are not the only consumers having this issue. this is an inconvenience at this point but am concerned it is a safety issue - if the seat belt behaves this way, how do i know it will work properly in an accident? when we brought our car to the dealer to look at this issue they told us they could replace the seat belt. my concern is this seems like a design flaw and if they replace the seat belt with the same oem part, what prevents the issue from recurring?

we came to a brief stop at a drive thru lane (approx. 5-10 seconds), hard crank of the wheel left, mild acceleration, traveled about 15 feet, crank to right, pull into a parking spot. immediately prior to the vehicle coming to a stop, i noticed thick white smoke emanating from the edges of the hood, and when the car came to a stop i ordered everyone to get out. black smoke started as we exited the vehicle. i had the fire out quickly, estimate 45-60 seconds from seeing smoke until the fire was completely extinguished with a chemical extinguisher. immediately after the fire was out, when i was checking the undercarriage, i noticed a trail of oil leading up a couple of feet from the final resting place of the vehicle. this was obscured by additional oil leaking, shortly thereafter.

i was going straight at 40 mph (confirmed by gm engineer). another vehicle turned in front of me and there was a t-bone style of accident. the other car was totaled and mine took about $18000 of damage. none of my airbags deployed. i complained to gm, they sent an engineer out to look at the vehicle before it was repaired to assess and they said that the airbags not deploying meant that they functioned correctly. the engineers report said at the moment of impact, my car was traveling 40mph, and i have a hard time believing that the airbags wouldn't deploy under any circumstances while the vehicle is traveling 40mph.

i purchased my 2011 chevrolet traverse awd in april 2014 and within the first week i noticed a slight shuddering in my steering as i would make a turn to either my right or left. it feels like when you have a warped rotor except that when this shuddering occurs i am not applying the brakes. also, i have been noticing a whining noise as i am making turns in either direction. this is definitely coming from the power steering pump. i checked and added steering fluid and the next day this still continued. vehicle is just out of warranty for the in-service date but not for the 30,000 mile bumper. i have a friend who also is experiencing the same issue with his chevrolet traverse and wish that gm would do a recall on this vehicle system before an accident occurs. from what i have read, there has been far too many complaints from other consumers concerning this same power steering issue

lost both pads and rotors on the rear of vehicle, premature wear, not normal. move forward to present may 9 2014. 37,000 miles and the front brakes, poads and rotors, need replacing and the rear pads already need new pads. the brakes have to be malfunctioning in some way. called gm for the first incident and received some re-imbursement. i have not had repairs done on second incident but have made an appointment to secure repairs. it seems that what controls braking, example the proportionate valve, has failed in these instances. the results of the problem are the brakes need to be replaced evry 18,000 miles and that is not normal. my brakes, especially the rear last between 50 and 60 thousand miles and all other cars owned and the front normally last at least 40 thousand mile. gm has made mistakes in building the brake system with inferior parts.

this vehicle and many other general motors cars like it have been on many post and forums on the internet at least in the hundreds. i have purchase this vehicle used and therefore the date of the incidents are recent. i would describe this a design problem. if the vehicle is stopped on a slight incline and the transmission is in drive and you then take your foot off the brake pedal in order to proceed (as you would do when stopped at a traffic light), the car will roll backwards until the gas pedal is depressed enough to overcome the incline. this could be a danger if a pedestrian is walking behind your vehicle or you could roll back into a vehicle behind you. if you are on an incline (facing downhill) in reverse gear, the car will roll forward until the gas pedal is depressed enough to overcome the incline. this requires the driver to step on the brake so as not to roll with one foot and depress the gas pedal with the other so as not to roll. the chevrolet dealer ship describes this as normal and is due to the 6 speed transmission and the standards for fuel economy. i was told their is no cure for this such as raising the idle speed for the engine, reprogramming the ecm (control module or other fix. general motors does offer a feature on some models which is a hill hold assist so it must be a concern to many customers. i feel this could be a potential safety problem and is widely known although i am not sure how many complaints nhtsa has received. thank you in advance.

we have only had our traverse since january, but have noticed numerous times that the brakes grind (at times) when applying them.the car only had 24,000 miles on it when we bought it, it shouldn't have needed brakes already. finally had money for the brakes to be checked and we need pads and roters on all the wheels. it seems that this is a problem with a lot of the traverses. also, we have the problem which i have read about on here that when sitting at incline the car like to roll back. it has caused me to hit someone when on a hill. of course there isn't a recall on that either. i don't feel that these cars are safe for younger drivers. i have two sons that i won't let drive my car do to the issues with it. i think someone needs to do something before someone is killed by all of these problems. i have tried to get all of the recall notices taken care of, but dealership we bought the care from never has the parts.

while driving at highway speeds my 2011 chevy traverse began to overheat. the temperature gauge pegged all the way up to 260 degrees. i checked the coolant tank and could see that it was slightly low but nothing to cause an overheat. i attempted to drive to get to an auto parts store to get coolant. i was able to get the coolant and added the coolant and allowed the car to cool before attempting to start again. after about 30 minutes had passed i started the car again and the temperature gauge was down to 211 degrees. i attempted to drive again and a message came up on my dic, it read engine overheat idle engine, the engine power reduced and i was only able to go about 40mph. i pulled to the side of the road and to no avail in the end had to have my car towed to a repair shop. after $745.00, the water pump and thermostat had to be replaced. the technician indicated that the water pump had been leaking. i never saw any leaking in my driveway or when i changed the oil.

the power steering in my 2011 chevy traverse fails frequently when turning into streets, parking lots or driveways. the steering locks up and is hard to navigate turns almost causing accidents. i have safety concerns which puts my entire family at risk. i took vehicle to dealership and they claimed that it was the rack and pinion that was worn per the repair order which i paid $1600 to fix. once i took the vehicle home, the same problem was still occurring. very frustrated that the repair did not correct the problem. i returned the vehicle to the dealership where now they told me that the vehicle needed a new power steering pump. it was replaced and billed to gm as a "goodwill" repair order of $700. there is clearly a defect in the steering and hope that gm extends and issues a recall for the 2011 traverse before a serious accident occurs. i do not feel safe in this vehicle even after the repair.

while driving down the highway at high rates of speeds, all of a sudden the dashboard display lights up with all kinds of messages. it says to check traction control and reducing engine power. the engine reduces power and when you step on the gas it doesn't go anywhere. this happened a few times. at first i thought maybe it was ice buildup but after it happened a few more times i looked online where i came across a forum and found out there were hundreds of other chevy traverse owners who had the same problems. it happened on the highway when i was driving and i almost got smashed from behind by people going over 70mph. the car would barely move. the traverse was only 2 years old. after taking it to the dealer they stated it was the throttle body. it wasn't covered under warranty. i believe it should've been since the throttle body is part of the engine. how can a vehicle 2-3years old and have a 100,000 mile power train warranty not be covered. after talking to a few chevy people i found out this has happened to other types of gm vehicles too. they stated there has been bullentins put out on earlier models but never a actual recall. i called gm corporate but they didnt want to hear it. very serious problem that needs to be addressed.

car became very hard to steer, made a rubbing noise. we parked and looked under the chassis to see if we had snagged a branch or something. s since that incident it has happened several more times. i took it to a local repair garage and had them drive it around. of course it didn't happen for them. i had the dealer check it out, they couldn't find the problem either. when this occurs i have to wrestle with the steering. it has happened while i try to park or turn a corner, i don't have to be going very fast. i mad a left turn one day and couldn't make the corner. had there been cars parked along the street i would have had a real problem. as it was i parked and we took it in. it's very frustrating when professionals can't pinpoint the problem.

while sitting at a stop sign my traverse was hit on the driver's side by the tire and fender. the side air bag or front airbags didn't deploy. the vehicle that hit my traverse had airbags that deployed. my wife was 4 months pregnant and didn't have proper protection of the multiple airbags this vehicle has. she injured her knee from banging into the dash board and caused great concern about the health of our unborn child. the sad part is now we receive a letter that our car is part of the recent side impact air bag recall on the chevrolet traverse. the reason why it didn't delpoy in the accident is because of wire issues on the airbag system. unsafe at any speed.

june 2014. was driving on city expressway when suddenly "service stabilitrack/traction control system off" came on. our suv suddenly started losing power. took truck to chevrolet dealer service dept. service performed. tech said he found nothing wrong. did note that i had other recalls pending on vehicle. july 2014. was driving on interstate 40 at 11 p.m. and was 80 miles from home. i was driving alone. suddenly "service stabilitrack/traction control system off" came on. suv started losing power. was unable to get above 65. at some points rpm was high then loss of power. suv felt as if it was trying to cut off. have read in a forum (rums.edmunds.com/discussion/14979/chevrolet/traverse/chevy-traverse-stabilitrak-traction-control-problems/p4) that this is happening to a lot of traverses. we purchased this suv two years ago and really like it as it's perfect for me as i have to transport my disabled iraqi war veteran husband to and from his va medicals and we travel the interstate a lot. is this another issue that gm needs to add to its recall? we love our vehicle but now have a serious concern about this vehicle's safety.

vehicle was 2011 chevy traverse w/ awd with history (four instances) of engine oil leeks/requiring engine removal and reinstall. vehicle was on interstate when awd/vehicle stability control lights went on. dic indicated 'service stabiltrack', 'service awd' and 'awd disabled'. at that time, vehicle was 'chugging' but shortly after chugging got much worse to the extent that the vehicle could not accelerate or maintain speed at cruise, or without cruise up normal hills on an interstate. when gas pedal was pressed further, rpm/speed would increase but then drop sharply (500-1000rpm) multiple times and no further power could be applied. vehicle slowed down to about 50mph at the top of a hill. happened for the next 15-20 miles until it could be pulled over. vehicle was taken in once right after original occurrence, all three lights had gone off at point and vehicle drove normally after that. service center indicated a wheel censor (front right) was reading defective information. they cleaned 'dust' from the sensor. happened again about two weeks later, similar circumstances/results. service center indicated wheel sensor was bad, they replaced (at my cost) and had no further instances for about four months. similar situation happened again today (7/19/2014, conditions and results). however, the engine chugging was much worse and vehicle could not be driven safely on the interstate, would not accelerate or maintain safe interstate speed.

when slowing down to make a stop, steering assist was lost. assist returned after shutting off vehicle and restarting. the first day, it happened on two occasions but during subsequent days, frequency of loss of assist increased until it happens on nearly every stop. when this happens, steering effort increases making vehicle control difficult.

on friday, july 25, 2014, my 2011 chevy traverse stalled/shutdown while driving. i pulled out of a local gas station and immediately noticed that there was a noise coming from the engine. almost simultaneously the car began to stall/shutdown. i pulled over to the shoulder (fortunately there was one). i turned the ac unit and radio off. i started the car without any noise. i drove approximately 1 mile, turned the ac back on and the car stalled/shutdown once again, this time as the car was going approximately 35 mph. to say the least, i was extremely distraught as the car lost power and steering. fortunately, (for my family and chevy), there were no children in the car and there was no accident. the service manager told me that the problem was related to the ac unit and wants to charge me almost $2,000 to fix! the ac unit was "fixed" back in june 2013 while car was under warranty. it is no longer covered by warranty. my issue is that the car stalled/shut down. a car shutting down at any speed is a clear and present danger. traveling at 35 mph creates an even more dangerous situation. if the ac unit can stall a vehicle then this has to be an inherent design/production issue. there is no acceptable way that an ac unit can fail and thus cause the vehicle to shut down putting people's lives in danger. hopefully, my incident report will prevent any future problems like this from occurring, and most importantly, protect people's lives.

i took my vehicle in for the seat belt recall. the recall was performed, leaving questions. how does removing the sleeve on the seat belt and replacing it with shrink wrap plastic make this safer? there is now nothing to prevent the seat belt cable from rubbing on the sides of the now hole where the sleeve was. not to mention this leaves this area looking terrible and unfinished.

TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM

2011 chevrolet traverse. consumer writes in regards to issues with the traction control features. *smd the consumer stated when decreasing acceleration, approaching a curve or stop sign, the transmission down shifted causing the vehicle to go into an uncontrollable skid with the front wheels actually locking up. also, when he applied the brake, when he approached a curve or stop sign, the abs over-reacted, which caused the vehicle to go into a skid. both incidents happened while driving on snow covered roads. when it first happened, he went though the stop sin and ended up in a ditch when going around two moderate curves at slow speed. the consumer read the owner's manual and discovered the traction control could be turned off by flipping a switch. after doing so, the vehicle performed flawlessly with slippery conditions and continued to do so as long as the traction control was turned off. the problem was amplified by the fact, the traction control was automatically on when the vehicle was started.

serpentine belt shredded, water pump, battery and power steering failed twice, once in 2012 and once in 2013. serpentine belt replaced again in 2013 because it was damaged by a stone. currently have lawsuit against gm to replace the car for safety reasons. they are dragging their feet. lawsuit going on over a year.

complete loss of power steering caused by loss of power steering fluid. lost control of steering, steering wheel locked-up. fortunately traffic was light at the time and was able to slow down to stop in a controlled manner. upon inspection, found significant puddle of steering fluid under the car. appears to be a sudden failure, not a slow leak based on amount of fluid loss at the time of the problem. restarted the car and was able to slowly make it home with no power steering, steering wheel was very difficult to turn. consider this to be a serious safety issue, especially if this happens at higher speed in a busy traffic. found many similar complaints in various owner forums online. waiting for a dealer appointment to determine whether it's the pump, gear or fluid lines that caused the loss of steering fluid.

the abs and trac control lights have been coming on and going off for about a month. friday aug, 29 2014, while my wife was driving the vehicle around town the stop light turned and she went to stop like normal, the pedal acted like it was slick, the abs was trying to come on. when it did that the pedal went clear to the floor. the car did stop but she is a good driver so no accident happened thankfully. i can see how this can possibly cause an accident. i took it to the chevy dealership and they replaced a wheel sensor and said it was fixed, $187. we left the shop and went about a block to the first stoplight and it happened again so we turned around and went back. they worked on it for 3 more hours and said they couldn't find anything and would have to keep the vehicle until they could talk to gm engineers. today i recieved a call from them and it was fixed. the wife went to pick it up and the brought it around to her and said "here you go", she got in and the abs light was on again. she didn't even leave the dealership, went back in and told them it is messing up again, so she had to leave it there again. luckily so far i haven't had to pay anything more, but it obviously isn't fixed yet. as many other problems of this nature you'd think gm would do a recall for this problem. what really makes me mad is that we don't even have 80000 miles on this thing. if they can't build anything better i guess i will have to switch to a ford or chrysler or maybe even kia.
