UNKNOWN OR OTHER

while traveling down i-25 near monument colorado, i began to pass a semi-truck as i've done 1000 times before. i accelerated slightly to go around the truck and the accelerator pedal became stuck. i applied the brake and this did not release the accelerator. i checked the floor mat and it was no where near the accelerator pedal and checked the cruise control which was not engaged at the time. i immediately pushed my emergency on-star button and they instructed me to put the vehicle in neutral and step on the brake. this emergency procedure did work thankfully.

SEAT BELTS

we own a 2010 chevy traverse with the 8 passenger seating. i am aware that this problem affects also the seven passenger versions of this vehicle also, through conversing with other traverse owners on blogs. the rear seatbelt anchors are very painful to passengers, and dig into the hips. this affects the second row passengers, whether the car is equipped with captains chairs or a second row bench. it also affects all third row passengers. the anchors are entirely too stiff and stick straight out from the 90 degree point of the seat, with no "give" at all. the passengers have to actually sit a bit sideways to avoid being discomforted by the belts. also, some traverse owners have complained of a great deal of difficulty with installing car seats because of these belt anchors. my kids are older now, so i haven't experienced this, but i feel for them. i would appreciate someone from your department looking into this matter, and possibly getting us disgruntled traverse owners some satisfaction. thank you in advance for your cooperation.

TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM

2010 chevy traverse with approx 20k miles. 5 times has posted a message stating "traction control disabled, service stabil-track". this happened 4 times within a week. took to dealer and they could not reproduce the problem. they checked for computer codes and found none. problem went away for approx. 4 weeks then returned again this morning. it appeared to reset itself after stopping the engine for 5 minutes.

SEAT BELTS

second row seat belt buckles are stiff and make it extremely uncomfortable where passengers have to sit sideways so that the buckle doesn't hurt them, leaving them prone to injury in case of an accident. my mother bruised her hip after sitting in the second row when i had to brake hard after i was cut off by another drive. almost everyone that sits in the middle of the second row refuses to put on their seat belt because it hurts theirs hips. also, this makes it hard to buckle in a child with a booster seat as there is very little room to click in the seat belt with the seat in place. twice already i believed my daughter was clicked in but in fact she wasn't because the buckles had little to no give and gave me the impression that she was secure.

Reported in: LYNDHURST NJ || Crash: N || VIN #:

SEAT BELTS

the 2nd and 3rd row seat belts are poorly designed. in order for an adult to sit in the back seats, they must sit sideways or the seat belt will dig right into their hips. it is so painful that putting on the seat belt at all only makes the problem worse. also, it is extremely difficult to install a carseat in the back rows as well. additionally, children have a very difficult time trying to fasten their seat belts if they are in booster seats. the booster sits right up against the seat belts and make a clicking noise so that you think the belt has been fastened but the majority of the time it is not.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

while in the drive position on a steep hill at a stop sign, i removed my foot from the brake. the vehicle began to roll back almost hitting the vehicle behind me. it startled me. in order to proceed safely i had to use my left foot on the brake and my right foot on the accelerator. in the second incident, my wife was pulling into our driveway which has a slight incline. she removed her foot from the brake, the vehicle began to roll back almost hitting our youngest daughter who was riding her bicycle. my wife was scared. we further tested the vehicle on various hills/inclines both in drive and reverse and it continued to roll in the opposite direction of the engaged gear. apparently, this is a characteristic of the automatic transmission on this vehicle. it does not have "hill-hold" or "hill assist".

at low speeds, the power steering fails. when turning into parking spots or trying to make turns onto other streets or roads, you lose all power steering making it difficult to turn. i just recently bought the vehicle and didn't notice the problem until about a week later. it does not occur all the time, but too often when you least expect it.

i have power steering failure with 91000 miles. the dealer told me the tsb for this isssue would cost me about 1300 dollars.. since there is whine evident and the pitch changes with vehicle speed. at idle, you need to be like a gorilla to turn the wheel, but once you gas it, some assist is provided, this is not the first issue with this car. a/c line from compressor to condensor broken,,, $700.00. water pump leaking,,, drivetrain warranty. steerring wheel shimmy at various speeds since about 20k mile, " no problem found" even though it has been in several times and they never seem to duplicate the issue. .drive shaft seal leaking. waranty covered that one.this is our second traverse.. our 2009 with 6300 miles had a very rough idle and check engine light on.called onstar for diag. they were able to see faults, but could not get specific results for some reason. thety asked if i neede a tow, but the dealer was only 2 miles from me, i started to drive there. at the last lights before turning into the shop, it appearred as though i had an engine fire and could not even see out the windshield. was told that the coil feel out of bracket on fire wall and dropped onto exhaust.. since when does this car have a coil on the fire wall. then i found out the real issue. on of the pistons was disinagrated and completly gone. chevy wanted to repair the traverse. every computer component needed to be replaced as well. they started the work and ordered all the parts . after 30 days wernt by and they still had no engine fron chevy, i called them on lemon law. they took possesion of our 09 and replaced it with a 2010. we had to come out of pocket for about 1100 dollars and also were denied the interior protectio package that we purchased with our 09. loss of 1300. i have a very poor opinion of chevy's recent products and we have been a chevy family for 4 different . loosing faith.

i was driving through town back in february and my "service stabilitetrak" "traction control off" and "reduced engine power" lights come one. i took my car to the nearest dealership and paid $99 to find out what was wrong. they said i needed to replace the throttle body. the lights all went off on my way home so i thought it might be a fluke thing. well it just happened again 3 months later. i was going up a hill that has a immediate curve after it (we live in the mountains) and almost got rear ended because the car went from 55 to 25 as we were going up the hill and it wouldn't pick speed back up, the rpm's would just shoot up. this part is faulty part on many chevrolet traverse's and many other gm model's. on edmunds.com there are tons of people complaining about their throttle body's being bad and being dangerous. my four children all under the age of 5 could have been very badly injured or killed if that truck behind us didn't have good brakes. we were fortunate that we had a close call. i contacted gm and they referred me to a district specialist, but that person was suppose to call me back today between 1-3 and now it's 6:43 and they leave at 6:45, so i'm sure i won't hear from her today. i called to complain that she didn't call me during the time she was suppose to call, so now she has another 24 hours to call me and i doubt that will happen either. after this experience i don't think i'm ever going to buy another gm vehicle again, they're not issuing recalls on the parts that need to be and it's putting people's lives at risk.

second row seat belt latches make it extremely difficult to install child seat in center of second row. tried two different car seats, neither one fit between the buckles in the center position. in order to get the seat installed, i was required to roll up a small blanket or towel to fit between the latches in order to get the child seat up above the top of the latches. this disallowed me to use the actual seat belt to secure the child seat and i was forced to use the adjacent "latch" anchors on the outer two seats, which i know is not recommended. no other choice though for a center child seat position. the stiff buckles also cause very difficult seating for even the smallest adults and cause the passenger to need to sit sideways in order to not get bruised by the stiff buckles while going over even the smallest bump. very poor design that needs to be replaced with more flexible buckles.

while turning right at a corner the power steering unexpectedly stopped working and i had to muscle the steering wheel over to avoid colliding into a car that was stopped at the stop light. i don't believe my wife would have had the strength to do this since it happened so unexpectedly. i had a few more similar occurrences all at low speeds and when turning. when i brought it into the dealer i found out that the power steering pump was failing. the car is only 3 1/2 years old and since it's over the warranty i had to pay the very expensive cost of replacing the power steering pump. since then when i've searched the internet i've seen numerous other complaints at around this mileage for the 2010 traverse. *jb

STEERING

we are having the same problems and issues that so many other owners have listed on the site. the power steering goes out at random times with no set pattern, rhyme, or reason. however, as many others have noted, it seems to mostly occur at low speeds(less than 25 mph), going into curves, and parking lots. ours began to do this about three months ago. the most frightening event occurred when my wife was driving with our three young children and the steering became so stiff and unresponsive while negotiating a curve on the highway she nearly veered off the road. i took the traverse to a certified independent mechanic that i have used for 20 years and trust completely, he could find no problems. the computer codes came back showing no issues and the power steering fluid was at recommended levels. this is a major hazard that needs to be addressed immediately before someone is seriously injured. there is obviously a flaw somewhere with the vast number of complaints that have been filed. i noticed a pattern of so many owners taking the traverse to a dealer to have either the power steering and/or rack and pinion replaced, but to no avail as the problems with the steering still persisting. i am old enough to have driven older model vehicles and farm implements that did not have power steering and on the random, unsuspecting occasions when this problem arises the difficulty of handling this traverse is well beyond attempting to maneuver one of those machines. the steering virtually locks up. my wife is 5' 110 lbs. and i am 6' 200 lbs. and it takes everything i have to turn the wheel when this happens. i am no longer comfortable with my wife driving this vehicle, especially with my three young children in tow. a solution needs to found asap. otherwise unfortunately, my patriotic feelings will subside and i will go back to buying honda products again. *jb

intermittent loss of power steering at low speeds when turning into driveway or in and out of parking spaces. also was especially bad when backing into a parking space on a hill, when i could not turn the wheel at all until i started applying gas to get the car moving. at these times the steering wheel is extremely hard to turn. i have taken to the dealer for inspection twice and cannot duplicate the problem while there. the dealer gets no error codes on diagnostic and cannot see any leaks or mechanical problems. they have contacted gm who says they do not have any bulletins related to this matter. this problem is very unsettling and potentially very dangerous. i hope gm will investigate and come up with a solution. *js

coming out of highway exit, the stop light changed to red and my 7-year old child who i thought was restrained by the seatbelt was ejected forward. the driver seat stopped her from going into the front seat and cushioned her impact. i asked if she was ok and to move seats. the right passenger seat belt does not latch, it makes the sound that it clicks but it comes off, which can fool a child, i have four!!! my 7-year old thought the she was all buckled-up when she heard the "click" but the latch was not secure into the buckle and the seatbelt gave everyone a false sense of security. she could have broken her neck if her hands did not extend out first. scary!

i bought this vehicle in october 2012. after driving for a while i noticed a funny sound coming from the steering wheel. i took it to for an oil change and was informed my power steering was leaking. i called the dealer and informed them of the issue. due to having the vehicle over 30 days they would not repair it they stated i could use the extended warranty i purchased. i was not happy with the decision and they paid half of the deductible. so some months later i started having issues with turning corners and into my parking lot. the steering wheel would lock up and i had to use everything in me to turn the wheel. this is very concerning and scary. it is almost a year and i have had 2 recalls on this vehicle. the headlight has blown out. the interior lights have stopped working and i am not happy with this chevy traverse. i called chevrolet customer service and they said before i talk with someone i have to take the truck to a dealer and have them diagnose the problem and i have to pay for the diagnosis. they also said that they are not aware of the problem and there is no warranty at this time for the power steering only for the 2 recalls. i think we should file a class action against chevrolet. this is ridiculous that we are all having the same issues and there has not been a recall yet. lives are at risk with these types of problems.

i purchased a 2010 traverse ls brand new from a dealer and am now having serious issues with the steering locking up. my wife was driving the traverse into our neighborhood, as she turned off the main street into the neighborhood the steering locked and she could not come out of the turn. she had to almost stop the vehicle completely for the steering to unlock so she could continue. she almost hit a parked car and was almost struck by another car as she had to stop half way through her turn to unlock the steering. the problem only continued to worsen, steering locking more often and causing numerous near misses. almost striking cars, buildings, fences and curbs. it mostly happens at slower speeds, 35mph or less and has caused us to hit our garage trying to pull in or out. it has, however happened a few times at higher speeds while driving through curves on the highway and city streets, 45-70 mph. was taken to the dealer in december 2013 and diagnosed as rack and pinion issue. rack and pinion has been replaced twice(not under warranty) and the problem still exists. i have done research online line and this is happening to many people that own traverse, acadia, enclave and outlooks all with the same steering components. something needs to be done to get gm to rectify this issue before someone has to die or be seriously injured due to this problem.

driving to our work christmas party on the hwy then suddenly 3 chimes and "traction control off, service steadily track, engine power reduced" shows on dash board. we pull over to the nearest safe location. turn the vehicle off for about 5 min. then start again, we drive 5 miles then the exact same thing again. we end up having to pull over another 4 times before we reach our destination. next daytook it in to chevy dealership, charged me 100 diagnostic fee. told me it was throttle body needed replacing , and sparkplugs and injectors needs changed. total was going to be about $1200, i declined because i was told i had "bumper to bumper" extended warranty. come to find out none of the repairs were covered by this "bumper to bumper" warranty. this is definitely a problem that is found on a lot of chevy vehicles and needs to be taken care of. we spend so much money on these vehicles for chevy not to accept there is obviously a safety concern here, and they need to be responsible.....first and last gm vehicle we will ever own for sure.

while turning the car going forward or reversing right or left the steering will lockup. it feels like the power steering goes out. i can start the turn with no trouble and mid way through it can lock up and then release again. this is not always consistent though and doesn't happen on every turn. this has many times caused me to almost not make my turn. when it locks up it take both hands and all my strength and weight to pull on the wheel to complete a turn. again not consistent. sometimes it never happens during a drive. other times it happens on almost every turn. there are also times that it is hard to turn when i first try or start a turn. i can sometimes recreate it if i start a turn, not turning the wheel the full turn i need and then pull more on the wheel... it seems to lock up most times. but again not always. the dealership lithia looked at it for us once and found some moisture in an area they thought may have been causing an issue and replaced a seal but this was several months ago and it didn't change a thing. we are taking it in again today and hope that they find something as i feel this is a safety issue.

i bought this car as a used vehicle in 2010 with approximately 29,000 miles on it. i first begin noticing steering was an issue june of 2013 when driving at a slow speed and turning into the driveway or parking lots. i thought it was my alignment and went and had the tires rotated and aligned and it still continued to be hard to steer. it has gone from gradual to dangerous!!!! december of 2013 went to nc and had to drive on some very steep hills with very sharp curves and several times it was almost impossible to negotiate the turns. went and had the power steering fluid checked and it was fine. january of 2014 had the power steering fluid checked again and was still fine. the steering still continued to get worse with faster and slower mph rates. march of 2014 (i had my 10 year old daughter with me) while negotiating a curve at approx. 30 mph i could not get the wheel to turn to the left and almost went through the guardrail on the right and into a creek. i had a semi truck behind me that almost hit me as well. i finally got it turned in the nick of time. it really scared myself and my daughter. god was with us that day. on april 12, 2014 while having plenty of time to make a left hand turn from a main road onto a secondary road the steering went out again and in the meantime a car was coming from the opposite way and almost t-boned the vehicle with my daughter in the passenger seat. this steering issue is a daily continuing thing regardless of which way i turn or the speed. something has to be done regarding this before accidents results in fatalities. my tires on my vehicle are only 14 months old and worn out in the front from where it is so hard to turn (and the tires on this type of car are not cheap)

while driving in a parking lot i heard high pitched squealing from steering. then all of a sudden i could not turn to left or right. luckily parking lot was not to crowded and i was able to park. once in park i tried to shut off vehicle but was unable to remove key from ignition. after minutes of messing with it i finally got the key out. since then i still hear squealing and steering is different. i noticed my car was leaking something and told my husband who took my car to dealership. they said i need a new gear box. i don't even have 27000 miles on my traverse and have already had to replace the o2 sensors now this. i really liked this car but i don't have the money to be paying for this lemon!!! i went online and in several other states there are class action lawsuits for this same problem. this is a huge safety issue. please help or direct me in what i should do. thanks

at low speeds the steering becomes unresponsive as in locks up and will be very hard to turn if at all for a many seconds, which can seem like an eternity when you are turning from an off ramp or across traffic. shifting the card to neutral and increasing the rpm's has not effect, keeping the vehicle in drive the problem will eventually fade and the power steering will come back to normal. it doesn't do it every time, but seems more likely to happy when coming down from speeds above 30mph and then slowing down to make a sharp turn into a drive way or ramp.

we have a 2010 traverse and like many owners the power steering has quit working at slow speeds and is a safety hazard. it is impossible at slow speeds to turn the steering wheel. it is very bad when trying to park the car or even turn at red lights. this is something that numerous owners have had issues with and is a faulty system. it started with a small noise coming from the steering wheel then progressed to every once in a while not turning to now never working at slow speeds. if this was not a common problem with these cars then i would send it to mechanic to get fixed but since there are many cars effected and even a class action lawsuit over this issue it does not seem right to pay so much money for a car that is such a safety hazard. please for all the adults and kids riding in these cars check into this issue and get gm to fix all their safety issues and not just a few select models. this system from my understanding uses some of the same technology that the safety recall in place on certain models.

STEERING

i first noticed an occasional hard steering into parking spaces or turning corners. the problem now occurs every time the vehicle is driven. power steering fluid levels have been checked and noted to be adequate. no leaks from under the hood exist. the difficult steering, and i mean absolute loss of control of my steering happens at low speeds, from a complete stop to less than 20 mph, as when pulling into parking spaces or maneuvering around street corners, curbs, or medians. i have also noticed the loss of control when decelerating around highway on/off-ramps when my speed nears 30 or less mph. the steering becomes worse than "manual" steering and requires absolute force/man-handling of the steering wheel to complete the intended task, then as rapidly as the steering went out, it comes back again when i least expect it, causing over-steering through my maneuver. my husband also has difficulty maneuvering the vehicle when it converts to "manual" steering. the problem is so incredibly dangerous. i have ran into curbs and medians, thankfully not a pedestrian or fellow driver's car. multiple complaints about the same issues, even after costly replacement/repairs of power steering pumps and steering rack and pinions, leads me to believe there is a serious defect with my steering system and gm needs to investigate and correct the problem immediately! it is a matter of time before fatalities begin to occur from this problem.

i have a 2010 traverse. with in the last 3 months the steering has become a daily problem. when making turns from 25mph or less you loose control of the car. the steering will freeze up when it chooses. sometimes it will happen at the start of a turn sending you straight toward on coming traffic!! we had it in for an oil change (may 2014) and asked the dealer to check the steering. dealer said there was nothing wrong and the vehicle is fine. it still continues to occurrence on a daily basis. we don't have the money to bring it to the dealer to have the pump replaced. i'm looking for other options on how to repair/replace it the most economical way? until i have this problem resolved it will mostly be just an around the town vehicle do to the fear of it may happen while on the highway. i cant believe with this many complaints gm hasn't done anything to correct this problem. its time for a recall.

2010 chevrolet traverse. power steering goes in and out while turning at slow speeds - it sometimes works/sometimes not. particularly noticable when attempting to park, or turn from at stop at an intersection. very much a safety concern due to the unexpected loss of the power steering while trying to make a turn - either into a parking spot, or while turning through traffic at an intersection, and then the strength needed to turn the wheel. problem started at less than 60k miles. after some research, appears this is a common problem for the traverse and related gm vehicles.

the issue was first observed when initiating a 90 degree right hand turn into a parking space at approximately 10mph. the wheel did not respond to the turn and felt as if it was being grabbed or pinched, the only driver option was to immediately apply the brakes. the wheel then had to be muscled in order to turn the vehicle. since that instance, this issue has increased in frequency and has become a daily occurrence. the issue has been observed by all three regular drivers of the vehicle. more often than not, the vehicle must be reversed to re-initiate the turn so as not to hit other vehicles or pedestrians. additionally, it was independently observed by our mechanic when taking the vehicle for a test drive after performing unrelated work on the vehicle. a related issue observed includes a sensation of pinching or binding of the steering wheel when initiating a turn at low speed; after experiencing this brief sensation the wheel then turns without issue. the dangerous aspect of this issue is that the driver is not certain that the wheel is actually going to turn. however the driver cannot just apply the brakes as that may result in getting rear ended and at the same time is apprehensive about muscling the wheel. the vehicle was just brought in for inspection of the steering issues by our certified chevrolet service center. their diagnosis indicated that the steering rack requires replacement at an estimated cost of $1600 and needs two (2) days in the shop. they indicated it was not a drive train warranty item. current mileage on the vehicle is approximately 80,000 miles.

the first incident occurred in late may. when turning a corner the steering became difficult to turn, and was even more difficult to return. i took the vehicle to the dealer in june. they had the car for eleven hours that day and performed some routine maintenance, but were unable to duplicate the issue. as we continued to drive the vehicle, the issue became more dangerous. the steering was becoming much more difficult to return to the straight position. i took the vehicle back to the dealer aug 13. they informed me that the power steering pump was failing under load, and replaced it.

STEERING

at low speed while parking the power steering stops working.

Reported in: BEVERLY WV || Crash: N || VIN #: KL8CB6S94EC

STEERING

the power steering stops working when slowing down and going into turns. the issue is more noticeable when turning into parking spaces, backing out of parking spaces. it occurs when the air conditioner is on. the dealership said it was the ac compressor and charged us $1200 to change it. the problem still exists. this is very dangerous because i start to turn into somewhere and the power steering stops working making it difficult to turn the wheel. avoiding an accident would be impossible as the car steering is not responsive. seems to occur more on hot days or after driving the car for a while. dealership has of yet been able to fix the issue. checking forums for the traverse this seems to be a car defect that dealerships are having a hard time fixing.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

july 1st 2014: i was backing out of a parking stall at work and heard 3 dings, looked at my dash, saw the traction control off light flash, and then the car powered down. i could not get it to restart and called for a tow. after a few days in the shop i got my car back and all seemed fine. they cleared some "codes". august 23rd 2014: i went grocery shopping - went to start my car and guess what happened again. same as above, called for a tow. a few days later i got my car back. they cleared some more "codes". august 28th 2014: i had my car home for less than 24 hours and it happened again. as you can probably guess - i got it towed and it is currently being worked on. i'm so happy i'm making car payments on a car that i don't even get to drive. my husband has a 1997 ford f150 with over 215k miles - it starts everyday. my car has 67k miles. i guess the most irritating thing is that there are tons of complaints about this and nothing is being done in the form of a recall. that is pathetic!! you are losing loyal customers. you are screwing the middle class families that purchase your vehicles. do you think any of the major shareholders and ceo's are driving chevy's??? maybe if there bmw's or volvo's didn't start...oh wait gm doesn't make those, so they probably work just fine. this is a huge safety issue. someone is going to die from this...someone with a conscience at gm do something!!!!!!

STEERING

the power steering goes out all the time when car is moving slowly.

Reported in: WOODLAND PARK CO || Crash: N || VIN #: 1GNLRHED0AS

STEERING

the traverse has a serious problem with the steering, as in it does not turn(at all) at low speeds. the power steering will not work 90% of the time when turning at 10mph or lower. getting out of a parking place is almost impossible if you are required to only pull out one way. the scariest instance for us was when we tried to pull into a turn lane across a five lane highway and the car wouldn't turn to straighten up in the turn lane. luckily the other drivers stopped but that would have been a serious accident had they not. we have taken it in before to have it looked at and nothing was found. we are taking it to someone new next week.

we have been having trouble turning at slow speeds. almost ran into another car head on because the car wouldn't turn. ask our dealer service center and of course they said they never heard of anyone having problem. that we need a new power steering rack at $1400.00. funny that this web site has tons. in today's world - where customer service should be top of the line it is at the bottom. no wonder people buy foreign cars.
