chevrolet silverado 1500 2014 Complaints

SEATS

i purchased the 2014 silverado 1500 while it was raining. test drive was fine, but the sales person already had the vehicle running with the defroster and wipers on. drove home (2 miles) and parked. turned on the fan knob ( standard with a/c model) and the a/c turned on, this occurred nearly every time i turned it on and asked the dealer service center about it. i was told i am probably hitting it with my knuckles. i since tried only while pinching the knob to avoid this and the a/c still nearly turns on every time. also when the truck sits a while the first start is a hard one but after running and warmed up it will be fine to start. not sure if the truck battery needs a charge after sitting on the lot, i could also smell a rubber burning odor outside and through the vents, thought it was because it was new but then i seen there was a recall 3 days prior. when i tried anchoring my sons child seat i found no seat anchors in the center rear seat and only the ends. i worry about his seat near the door if there is a side crash. lastly, why isn't there rear sensors at a minimum a mandatory on trucks yet. cameras can still be offered as a option but sensors should be mandatory!

WHEELS

was driving in the right hand side lane just went through a intersection. less then a minute later the tire burst and my steering wheel was forced to the right and i hit the curb, bending and denting my wheel. i didn't hit anything or go over anything. got out of the car and the tire was completely flat. had to call a mechanic friend to come and help take the wheel and tire off and put my spare wheel and tire on. when the tire came off there was no nails or sign of impact on the tire. on the inner side of the tire that faces the motor there is a 3-5 inch skinny jagged crack straight line on the side wall part. i always keep plenty of air in my tires there was no tire pressure warnings on the car before i left. i have a screen shot of my tire pressure an hour before this incident occurred. this happened to my front passenger side tire. the tire is defective but the dealership i have bumper to bumper warranty with won't do anything. they state i must have had let the tire pressure get low or i must of hit something. i have proof my pressure was fine and i didn't hit anything. the crack is on the inner part of the wall if i would hit something it would been on the tread part or on the outer wall.

STEERING

when driving at highway speeds on winding roads, the steering does not return to center when the turn is finished. the steering "sticks" and the wheel needs to be pushed back to center. the steering sticks hard and it takes considerable force to return the wheel to center, sometimes resulting in an overcorrection, and loss of lane position. the truck is difficult to control and impossible to keep centered in the lane when having this problem. the problem consistently happens at highway speed, and on winding roads. gentle curves do not produce the problem, but the winding interstate highways of kentucky, virginia, west virginia, and north carolina do. the truck now has 7000 miles on it, and the problem appears to be getting worse.

the rear window of my 2014 ltz double cab reflects the climatic control panel lights back to the rear few mirror during night driving. the reflection is a severe distraction during night time driving, especially when no one is immediately behind you with there lights on. gm is aware of problem and is doing nothing about it. i've had the dealership (lotspeich in warrensburg, mo 64093) in contact with gm. gm direction is to turn down the instrument panel lights, that would be off, to reduce/eliminate reflection. this is a manufacturing/design issue causing, what i believe to be, a safety concern. to keep this reflection from distracting me i turn my mirror down, shifting the reflection, problem is i know can't see out of the rear view mirror.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

i bought this truck brand new on february 13, 2014 with approximately 33 miles on the odometer. on april 23, 2014, i noticed that the black wax coating on the frame was peeling off and rust was developing in several locations. i am currently in the process of trying to get this repaired through the dealership that i purchased the truck from. in the mean time i've been inspecting other 2014 silverados on dealership lots and i noticed rust developing on those frames in various locations as well. after consulting with a dealership service department, i have found out that there is a service bulletin out regarding this problem. in my opinion though a brand new truck should not be rusting like this and i have serious concerns regarding the long term quality and safety of this vehicle as a result.

when driving at highway speeds between 72 mph +, the vehicle will vibrate very badly to the point where you can not drive so fast. it comes and goes and when it comes back sometimes even at reduced speeds of 65mph the vehicle still vibrates very bad. i have informed gm of my issue and my local dealership and they choose not to do anything. really, because they don't know what it is. the vibration is so bad that it can numb your body by the end of your drive or distract you enough to crash. i drive up to 9 hours with my vehicle for work and it is very uncomfortable. i am filing this complaint to see if i can get help to stop this issue from happening. a lot of people are also having this problem and from my understanding, gm is ignoring them as well.

SUSPENSION

at less than 2,000 miles, the frame and rear axle is rusting through the "protective" wax coating. where my dealer placed jack points when jacking up the vehicle during pre-sale inspection, there are distinct rust marks in the shape of the jack point. the axle has rust spots increasing in size every week. the frame has rust spots increasing in size and apparent severity every week. the wax coating is often found in flakes under my truck in my garage in the morning. i had a 2011 silverado that, at 22k, had zero frame rust and it was exposed numerous times to chicago and minneapolis winters, including the heavy road salt. this new truck has never left georgia since its purchase. i am concerned about the structural integrity of this vehicle over time if the frame will rust as much as it has in less than 2,000 miles. what will it look like at 50k mi.?

i was driving on the highway at 55mph when i noticed the engine malfunction light came on and shortly after began to flash and the engine was running rough like a fouled out plug, so i was close to my home but before i got there the truck was running even rougher and the transmission shifted very hard also. i called the dealer and they told me not to drive it have it towed via chevys 2 year road assistance, so i called and after waiting and calling back 5 times i called my own tow service and got it into the dealer. they said a code for engine misfire cylinder # 5 and replaced bad wire with a new one. on my ticket it says bulletin pip5159. the mechanic told me usually these plug wires had been failing on trucks with less miles then mine. so i asked if the other wires could fail and he said yes-so be aware and ready for more to fail.

my 2014 chevy silverado 1500, ltz, z71 started to have numerous issues since this past april. the truck has been in the unethical landers mcclarty chevrolet in huntsville, alabama seven times with only the smallest of the issues being fixed. 1st issue was the driver side seat moved when turning left or right. the dealer┬┐┐s service department informed me there was no fix and that the seat was within manufactory┬┐┐s specs. the seat moved to the point that the ventilated seat cooler plug disconnected. the service dept eventualy "fixed" the seat and reconnected the plug. lastly the issue i cannot get resolved through gm corporate, dealer service department or the regional gm manager. my truck "shakes" from speeds of 65 mph and greater. the service dept first told me i needed an alignment and have the tire rotated and balanced. the shake still continued, so i complained again to the service dept. this time i was told that two tires where "bad" do to road force and replaced them. the truck still shakes like a stripper so i emailed the ceo of gm on 11 july and assigned an executive liaison to work the issue. since then my truck has been in the service department twice. each time i was called a liar indirectly by the service department manager "parde" and the district manager "ron" after they test drove the truck and couldn't replicate the complaint. i had the service dept foreman "greg" ride along with me as i drove the truck and pointed out the "very" noticeable shake at high way speeds. after numerous phone calls to the service dept, gm corporate, i found out that the service dept can utilize a vibration analyzer on the truck. this has not taken place or even considered. i continue to drive the truck with the shaking becoming worse with each mile. just like the ignition switch problem, gm down plays the issue and lets the problem compound.

when the truck reaches a speed over 35 mph the steering wheel, the seat, and the entire truck has a vibration. i live in east tennessee. i purchased the truck in georgia. it is about a three hour drive from where i purchased the truck to my home. on the drive home i noticed the vibration right away. i thought it may be a tire balance issue so i continued the trip home. the next day i talked with the local dealer and was informed i need 500 miles on the truck before they will work a vibration issue. when i took the truck for service a few days later i was informed that several trucks have this same issue and gm does not know what to do about the issue. the dealer balanced the tires and told me that is all they can do about the vibration. through searching the internet and talking with other dealers i have found that may parts have been replaced with no help. drive shafts, axle shafts, wheels and tires have been replaced and rear ends have been rebuilt. nothing seems to help. most dealers have worked this issue on several trucks. if this vibration is coming from any part of the drive train or suspension and the part has a catastrophic failure it can cause serious injury or possibly death.
