upon braking hard to avoid hitting vehicles braking abruptly in front of me, all four wheels of my vehicle locked up and just slid on dry pavement. anti-lock brakes didn't work as designed. there was no pedal pulsation or ratcheting noise as usual with anti-lock brakes working properly. should have been able to stop safely if they were working properly. dealer said if warning light wasn't on then they were operating properly.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

i purchased a new chevy silverado ext. cab 4x4 ltz and drove approximately 30 miles from the dealership. after traveling through an intersection i noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. i proceeded approximately another 50 yards in an effort to find a safe place to pull over to investigate the problem. before i could pull over the smoke increased and the interior of the vehicle almost immediately became filled with heavy smoke. i stopped in heavy traffic and used onstar to call for assistance then exited the vehicle and opened the hood to investigate the problem. i saw heavy smoke and flashes of fire coming from the left side of the engine near the catalytic converter. the fire extinguished itself shortly after turning the engine off and the smoke cleared and/or stopped after about five minutes. after the police and fire department cleared the vehicle to be moved, i contacted the dealership and got towed back. after a brief investigation the dealership service department stated that "a component of the transmission was either improperly installed at the factory during assembly or immediately failed in the first 30 miles that the vehicle had been driven. this failure resulted in transmission fluid being sprayed directly onto the catalytic converter thereby causing the fire."

fell asleep hit telephone pole totaled out truck from the front no air bag ...no on star. some safety features,and you pay for this, and get lower insurance rates for something that did not work. was told to contact gm and an agent would come out and check bags for deployment. if they did not deploy due to a wreck, as far as i'm concerned they are worthless!

SUSPENSION

i experienced excessive vibration in my 2001 chevrolet silverado 1/2 ton 4x4 after having my wheels rotated. after rebalancing did not correct the problem a closer examination of the wheel revealed that it was broken. a long crack had developed. my vehicle currently has about 177,000 miles. this first wheel failure occurred at about 170,000 miles. in may after having my wheels rotated i again experienced excessive vibration. closer investigation of the wheel revealed that i had a second wheel that had broken. i called chevrolet and was advised to take the wheel to a chevrolet dealer for an inspection and had a picture taken of the defect which was sent to chevrolet. my tire dealer also informed me that a similar situation with broken wheels had occurred with another customer who had 4 broken wheels on the same vehicle.

STRUCTURE

design defect - extended cab - low to high volume high pitch wind howl when driving into a head wind depending on intensity & direction of wind. loud enough that an onstar operator could hear it & it could be recorded on the dealer"s general managers voice mail. makes conversation difficult. dealer doesn't have a clue as to what to do to find & correct it. a second design blunder was replacing the charcoal gray interior in previous years with the ebony interior. it is impossible to keep clean & attracts lint & dirt like a magnet. the gray interior was the perfect color combination with the tweed pattern seat inserts. a third blunder is the raising the truck body 3 inches higher off the ground plus adding 2 inches to the depth of the bed making the bed rail 5 inches higher off the ground. the combination makes it very difficult to access objects in the bed from the sides of the truck. to make the truck usable for my work i am having to have it lowered 2 inches in front & 3 in the rear.

my father was driving a stock dual cab chevy 2008 silverado, not sure what the stock tires for this truck is. was bought in lucedale, ms at walt massey chevrolet. he was forced off the north side of road traveling west at approx. 60 mph and when reentering pavement or during yawing (still uncertain, but pictures were taken by investigators), the right tire detached from the axle which caused the vehicle to go off other side of road and hit a large oak. the onstar services, which were functioning, did not notify ems or family. the truck was still running when witnesses went to assist him. the vehicle started smoking inside the truck, which made witnesses leave scene and the vehicle blew up and nothing was left to identify him or the vehicle to notify family of his whereabouts.

normal operation until august 25, 2008. transmission failure occurred on a city street enroute to i-95. failed in drive and completely lost reverse gear. loud spinning sound was heard. vehicle had 37, 351 miles. the mechanic at maroone chevrolet said the problem was with the "clamshell". that it had come apart and there was metal throughout the system. they recommended a complete transmission change at the cost of $3, 377.07. we went ahead with the recommended repairs. so far, no progress with complaint resolution through gmc.

i own a 2008 silverado crew cab, at around 1080 miles i lost all instrument gauges, fuel, oil, temperature and odometer including the driver information sensor. the active fuel management shut down as a result of this incident, where the vehicle does not drop from 8 cylinders to 4 cylinders.

i was traveling from my home to alexandria,la. to pick up some parts for our farm. weather conditions were changing from warm to cooler temperature due to an incoming cold front. traveling 55 mph on a new smooth section of la. highway 1, when all of a sudden a loud glass shattering noise happened behind me. when i looked back i saw the rear window had shattered and all of the shattered glass had blown out towards the rear bed of the truck. i notified southern chevrolet of the incident by driving by there to show the sales person the exploded condition of the window. after attempting to get the manager, we went in talked with the service manager about it. she had no recollection of previous failures on this truck make. the sales person said he would follow up with the manger and research of any other problems associated with this style of truck and contact me. no response received as of this date 10.23.08. i then proceeded to glass plus and had the back windshield replaced because the rain starting.

24 nov 2008: bought new 2008 chevrolet silverado pickup truck from local dealer. discovered that the inside door handles, being located below the arm rest (as opposed to being above the arm rest in our trade-in 2007 gmc pickup truck) could not be operated without extreme pain and effort by my wife who has carpal tunnel syndrome in both arms. 25 nov 2008: asked the dealer to take this truck back and return my trade-in truck to me. dealer refused. contacted manufacturer. manufacturer refused. this design could trap my wife inside the vehicle in the event of an accident. of special concern is an accident involving a fire in which she would need to exit without delay. i am forced to sell this vehicle at a great loss after driving it only a few miles due to this serious design safety defect.

POWER TRAIN

i have a vibration on my pickup that has always been there since it was new, but it got worse and happens all the time on dec 22, 2008. it would vibrate around 65 mph but not often so i thought it may be road conditions. it has been at the dealer under warranty for a total of 8 days on 2 occasions. on the first time they replaced the torque converter and when i picked it up it was the same, i do not believe they even took it for a test drive. they have had it for 4 days this time and can not figure it out.

my service air bag light comes on all the time. it has happened 9 times in the last 8 months. the dealership has changed some of the censors. the dealer has received a code for the air bags not working but can't and won't do anything till it is happening and they can check the error code. it happens all different times and in different weather conditions.

i have a 2008 chevrolet silverado with very low mileage. the issue is a structurally defective windshield. the windshield started cracking under the driver side molding and has progressed towards the center of the windshield. i know for a fact that nothing hit the windshield and the fact that the crack started when there was no one around else on the road. i went to local dealership to have it reviewed. the service manager simply glanced at the windshield and concluded that something hit the windshield when it fact there is nothing to substantiate that statement.. he went on to sell me the line that if there was a defect in the materials that the crack would have showed up before 7,500 miles. as a structural engineer i know that this is factually incorrect statement and nothing more then an excuse to do nothing.

we purchased two 2008 chevrolet pick up trucks on the same date and are experiencing a consistent problem with brake rotor warping. i had to have the rotors turned after 3,000 miles and again at 11,300 miles. it has had to have the rotors turned at 8,000 miles. on april 14, 2009 vehicle #2 was being driven down a steep hill and the brakes barely stopped the truck due to the rotors being warped and overheating. both vehicles were taken into the dealership today and a complaint #71-716924191 was filed with chevrolet customer assistance national line. vehicle #1 was being driven down a hill last thursday and that vehicle barely stopped due to bad rotors. we expressed to chevrolet that this is a safety hazard and they said they will continue to follow the guidelines of their warranty and turned down the rotors as necessary as long as there is still serviceable life left in them. they will not install any better rotors nor would they offer any other solution. the dealer service adviser told us that they have problems with all pick up truck rotors on vehicles that frequently travel on hills and have had problems with cars as well. these two pick-up trucks do not normally tow anything, only have one person in the vehicle, and usually have a four wheel atv on the back which weighs about 360 pounds which is less than two of three people occupying a cab. the vehicles are driven on some farm lanes and get some mud on the wheels infrequently but they said this contributes to the rotors overheating. pickup trucks are supposed to be designed for heavier use "chevy tough is their advertising slogan" and these pickups, do not see much heavy use. we feel this is a considerable safety hazard of brake failure and looks like it will be an ongoing problem well after the warranty period expires. we live in a hilly area with many steep roads and were never advised that the trucks could not withstand these conditions.

drivers side door lock not working properly. this vehicle equipped with auto locks which can be remote operated. the device that makes the lock work stopped working. as a result the door does not automatically lock or un lock. also with the device being broke the remote locks do not work either. this lock failure going un noticed can leave the people in the vehicle a false sense of security. what if it failed at a passenger door where a child was sitting? what if you locked the truck, walked into the store, walked back out to your truck and someone got in while you were inside? what if you were at a red light and someone came to attack you and the lock failed. this issue could have severe consequences. it gives you a false sense of security. i took the truck to the dealer where they informed me this issue was common and they have been seeing a lot of vehicles brought in for warranty work to replace the defected part. luckily my truck was inside the 36k warranty period so the repair will be made at no cost. however, i have since exceeded the warranty period and from this point forward it will come out of my pocket.

i have taken my 2008 chevy silverado truck to the dealer several time to the dealer for many different problems. one specifically, brakes. the brakes have given me a problem ever since i bought the truck and have been replaced once. after replacement the problem still occurs. the dealer says the problem is normal. a new vehicle should not have so many problems. i've been taking the truck to the dealer for all my concerns. now they say its a maintenance issue. after i've taken it so many times, now they say that's what it is. i do not believe that is right. i have all paperwork of me taking the truck to the dealer for my concerns. i believe you will see that i have taken it so many times, that my case should be handled. i have called the bank that has the loan of the truck, and have called chevy and gm customer service. no follow up is attempted from the customer services. now i do not have faith in the vehicle. it is not safe for me to have a defective truck.

i have taken the truck to the dealership shop twice regarding the squealing brakes. the first time they said there was a recall on the front brakes and they replaced them at no cost. i had to pay for the rear brake replacement. i took the truck back two weeks later because of the same squealing. they said the only thing they could do was to spray on some kind of metal coating. they said i would have to come back because it would take several hours to dry. if they just replaced defective brakes, why would i have to accept them spraying something on them instead of fixing the problem. my husband has this same truck and his brakes squeal too.

i have had two problems with this truck - one the driver door locks clicker stopped working and i had to have the chevy dealer replace the automatic door locking part - now the brakes are a problem - i have 17,000 miles on this truck and the front rotors had groves in them and had to be turned - the pads have been replaced with heavy duty pads - my regular tire and brake shop in town said they would never have put the heavy duty pads on this truck. four days after the first fix it started squeaking and i had to take it bake to the dealer and he said they had to keep it and check the brakes were getting hot, they got me a rental car for four days while they took the brakes apart and put them back together and said they must have put them together the first time wrong!

prelude to this event, involving my 2008 chevrolet silverado 1500 (approx 16,200 miles), was the warranty replacement for the failure of all 4 power door lock actuators. the actuators failed one at a time and each time an actuator would fail, the vehicle would shock the driver when touching the metal door while exiting the vehicle. the last actuator was replaced by the dealership on september 18th, 2009. on september 19th, 2009, after engaging my vehicle into reverse gear, the dashboard electrical went dead. gauges went dark and radio began to blink. within 5-10 seconds, smell of burning electrical came into the cab of the vehicle. i popped the hood and my passenger immediately identified a fire near the transmission on the passenger side. the fire was extinguished before engulfing the vehicle. after inspection, we found a shorted out wire near the starter and a broken transmission cooling line. the cause of both anomalies is unknown at this point. vehicle is at the dealership that the vehicle was purchased from. this occurred under "normal" conditions on an improved driving surface.

2008 chevrolet silverado - air conditioner blows hot air out of drivers side and cold air out of passenger side. extremely hot air blows out of the drivers side whenever the air is set on 60 (hotter than the max 90). it occurred once before but was fixed by a mechanic costing a couple hundred dollars, but now it has begun again. i am not sure if a part was fixed or replaced but the issue ceased and now has started again.

driving around curve on residential street in my 2008 chevrolet silverado i came upon an illegally parked car. i attempted to steer away from car when steering locked up and i could not avoid hitting car then curb then garage. steering made a strange clicking noise during my attempt to avoid the car. i had the power steering pump repaired in february 2010 at dealership where we had purchased our truck for this same problem. they found the pump to be defective and effected a replacement of this part.

the problem has been occurring over several months, it is as follows: the door locks activate to the on position then relock. following that, all electronics shut off, the vehicle lurches, then everything comes back on and you continue on the way. it is especially dangerous at night because all lighting goes off and you are left in the darkness while driving at a high rate of speed. the vehicle has been into the chevrolet dealer an several occasions and they have been unable to find the reason for the problem. the dealer's service manager stated that the vehicle was unsafe and agreed provide me a vehicle, however that was two weeks ago. i have had to purchase another vehicle to drive at night for fear of injuring myself or someone else during one of the episodes. the vehicle is a 2008 chevrolet silverado crew cab with 4 years remaining on the warranty. the episodes occur without warning and at different frequencies, it may happen three or four within an hour or go for a day or two without happening. each time it is a surprise especially if you are traveling 70 miles an hour and at night.

one of the rear wheels locks up intermittently when turning a corner while road is wet can happen on left or right side of vehicle. went to dealership and explained that i had the same exact problem with my 2000 chevy silverado which cost me about $2,000 to have it repair the dealership ("leahman brothers" in concord ca) they drove the truck for about 5 minutes and said they couldn't duplicate the what it was doing. and wouldn't go any further with the investigation.

the driver�s side rear tire sidewall peeled apart on chevy 2008 silverado with ameritrac tires 245/70r17 with only 10,000 miles on vehicle. when i took the tire to the dealer, since it should have been under warranty they claimed it was due to a puncture in the tire. they also said it was from a piece of screw driver that was planet in the vehicle. the piece of screw driver wasn't there until the car was taken to the dealer, so not only didn't they fix the car they damaged it.

door lock on drivers side will not lock or unlock. when pressing the remote fob to lock/unlock the truck it tries to move but will not fully go up or down all the way. the same thing happens when using the lock/unlock button from the inside of the truck. i have been locking my truck and walking away with a false sense of security. you can walk up and open my door due to this defect. the alarm will sound but entry has already been made to the vehicle. even worse what if you needed to lock the door from the inside to avoid someone trying to gain access to you through your vehicle. you would have to remember to hit the lock knob itself because the lock/unlock button does not work. this is bad because gm knows they have chronic problem with this. just go to the internet and type in "2008 silverado door lock actuator" and see what comes up. it is ridiculous that a company will not stand behind its product. now that the federal government owns most of gm it will get worse. this will be the last gm product that i ever purchase.

braking system on my 2008 chevrolet silverado vibrates harshly at speeds above 50 mph. the higher the speed, the more the vibration i feel, making it hard to stop and making the vehicle feel unstable. there is also a popping noise that has been coming from my rear brakes. these issues started at about 5-6k miles and have continued to get worse. i now have 24k miles on my truck and gm has not been able to fix these issues.

i was driving at a speed of approximately 45 mph when a driver, who was cited for failing to yield to the right of way, entered the roadway from my left. the initial impact was my truck's front to the passenger side of the vehicle that entered the roadway. after both vehicles separated, my vehicle continued and struck a median guardrail head-on (another frontal impact) before coming to rest. my seatbelt did not lock and no airbags deployed. the highway patrol investigated the active collision scene. four days later, an independent collision reconstruction expert that i hired inspected my vehicle at my local gm dealership. the inspection revealed that: i was in fact going 45mph, my seatbelt was buckled, my seatbelt pretensioner did not activate, and no airbags deployed. gm has also been contacted by me, and they are currently investigating the issue.

three of the four locks on my 2008 chevy silverado no longer work when using the remote. they quit working right after the 36,000 mile factory warranty expired. the dealer told me it would cost $700 to have them replaced. i contacted chevy directly and they told me they have not had any other complaints about this problem. they wanted me to pay for a diagnosis from a chevy dealer so they could evaluate the problem. it is very inconvenient, and frustrating, to have paid for automatic door locks and they quit working two years after i have the vehicle. you have to manually lock/unlock each door when it should be as simple as pushing a button. it is also a safety issue the locks don't work while the truck is being driven. now, the rear windows don't operate from the controls on the rear doors. i can't believe, that with all the complaints that i have read regarding the same issue, chevy won't stand behind their product and fix their malfunction. next time i think i'll buy a ford if this is how chevy treats their customers.

i own a 2008 silverado that i bought new before the bailout and everything at chevy was being given away. my problem is intermittent and seems to fix itself, i have had the a/c not work abs lights flash,power door locks fluctuate and all that while driving. when it is parked i will unlock it using the key fob everything will light up truck will unlock get put key in the ignition to start and everything will shut off. it is as if someone took out the battery, i have no horn no 4ways no power of any kind. now it does not do this all the time but is happening more frequently. last time i took it to the dealer the tech told me it fixed itself he don't know what he did,but told me to get rid of it as soon as possible. that was while it was under warranty now it will cost me a small fortune for them to tell to get rid of it.

i purchased a new chevrolet silverado with the vortec max package in september of 2008. since new, the vehicle has idled rough and surged at stops. it feels like another vehicle has bumped you from behind. i have brought the vehicle in numerous times to be inspected under warranty. general motors came out with a technical service bulletin stating that if the vehicle has a rough idle with no check engine light it is a normal characteristic of the vehicle. the rough idle causes the vehicles rpm's to spike leading to the surge condition. i have asked for the vehicle to be repaired numerous times under the existing warranty and general motors has not taken action stating it is a normal characteristic. there are many other silverado owners with the same problem that do not believe it is a normal characteristic. any vehicle that feels like it was bumped from behind is a definite safety concern. i am scheduled for an arbitration hearing on july 11, 2011 with the better business bureau and general motors to discuss the problem. the idle/surge problem happens several times per week. my wife has also experienced the problem while driving the silverado and immediately called me asking what was wrong with the vehicle. i encourage all other general motors customers experiencing this problem to contact general motors, the better business bureau and the nhtsa.

have a 2008 chevy silverado, the rear drivers door lock has failed and won't open; now the front door and window is making a dragging noise. chevy won't stand behind it. but i've seen several reports on line from others with the same problem. what if there was a wreck and someone needed to get to someone in the back or someone needed to get out. plus if the front one gets worse it could happen to them also. have taken it to 2 dealers in the portland or. vancouver wa area, they won't stand behind it and neither will chevrolet. with so many complaints can't something be done to make them honor it.

approximately 2000-4000 miles after the warranty term (but still well under the 36 month limit) i began to notice my power locks weren't working correctly. when i took my truck in to the dealer, the service rep told me that that was a very common problem. after determining i was over warranty mileage limit, he said all he could do is maybe "help me out" on the repair costs. my main concern is how the manufacturer hasn't been more proactive in correcting this problem since, from what my research has revealed, it is a very common issue. i would think that chevrolet would be a little more concerned about the safety and security of their customers and vehicles. *tt

doors do not lock/unlock when alarming or unalarming truck. it occurs daily and not sure how long this has been going on. i happened to get out of my truck and open the back door which would not open. with further investigation, i realized that the lock was not working properly. i wonder how many other owners of this vehicle have no idea that this is happening? i have alarmed my vehicle, then checked the back door to see if it locked with the alarm going off, because the lock had failed! i wonder how many people actually check to see if their truck locked and alarmed properly. i checked with the dealership and it'll cost $100 for them to just look at it because it is past the 3 yr. warranty. i think this is unfair.

when stopped at a light or sign, when you released the brakes it feels like someone hit the rear bumper. this is cause by the york at the rear of the transmission is sticking. gm dealership will sand and lube the lube. this covers up the problem for a couple of months. if you want the problem fix it will cost you about $350.00. the yoke is not cover by the drivetrain warranty. even though the yoke is the wrong one,because they will replace it with a nickel plated york and then the problem is solve. the york is the part that comes out of the transmission and hooks to the driveshaft. if the yoke grabs and breaks the rear of the tranny, the driveshaft will drop out and hit the ground. at high speed this could cause a fatal accident.

driver and rear passenger locks do not work. this is the 2nd time now that these dont work. first it was the front driver side, now its the same side but rear door. it is annoying not having acces to the doors via keyless entry. it was a one of the reason why i bought a keyless entry for safety reason for women. also, i have a grandson who rides with me occasionally, and if emergency occurred, i fear he could be trapped as i would have to insert key to unlock driver door or worse. the rear door has no way to insert any key into door. how do you expect me to save my child if i can't even open it. i have to lower my driver side seat back and reach far back to where locks were placed and manually unlock the back door. recall all trucks back and replace locks in them. this is a serious issue with safety and children safety!!!! this would make 3 locks. one when new purchase vehicle, 2 replaced by dealer and now 3rd its broken again!!!! *kb

the right rear door actuator went out not allowing the door to lock or unlock, other than manually. not only is this a theft issue, but a safety issue as well. kids were able to open the door while driving which is an apparent safety problem and after reading numerous other reports of this same problem occurring, it is something that needs to be taken care of/recalled. this is apparently due to a cheap motor made out of china and is a fairly easy issue to resolve.

engine lost power, rattling badly. after stopping, engine was still running, but had no power and rattled like a lifter blew. towed to dealer, where they determined that the camshaft blew and damaged #7 lifter. the tech said it was a "materials defect/failure". 1.5 months out of powertrain warranty. gm is giving me grief over taking care of the $3000.00 repair bill. they are offering only $1800.00, but a materials defect should be taken care of by the manufacturer. truck only has 63000 + miles on it.

on our 2008 chevy silverado 1500 lt 4x4 z71, the dashboard has cracked so badly where the passenger airbag is, that if the airbag were to deploy, plastic shrapnel is going to go flying, which could injure or possibly kill someone. on the flipside; the airbag may not even deploy due to the damaged dashboard. in either case, this is a major safety issue that gm refuses to acknowledge, despite now thousands of customers tahoes, suburbans, and (all chevy & gmc trucks & suv's 2007 and newer) having the exact same issue. after multiple calls to chevy and gm, and them being extremely rude and in denial; the best they can do is to replace the dash for a price of $200-500, which we currently don't have, and should not have to pay for, as gm should stand behind the safety of their vehicles after charging the prices they do. in the meantime, we don't feel safe even driving our truck down the street. this is a serious safety issue, and needs to be an urgent recall, before someone is killed! there are message boards, facebook pages, and twitter accounts all set up just for frustrated chevy & gmc customers having the cracked dashboard and airbag issue, so please investigate this problem, nhtsa. since gm refuses to help it's thousands of scared customers, we pray you will help to stop this madness.

was at a red light when vehicle came to no function. stabilitrak / traction control light kept coming on and off for months. truck lost driving ability and lights became coming on. lost brakes, transmission light came on along with stabilitrak, and traction light. vehicle lost acceleration and did not have ability of power. sounded like spark plugs miss firing. brakes became disabled and where grinding. (new brakes) had to push my truck off road as it had no pressure to drive. mechanics think it is the throttle body sensor. will see.

i purchased my 2008 chevrolet silverado crew cab back in 20011. it had approx. 70,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. a few months ago i started having problems with the automatic door locks on the drivers side of my vehicle. i could lock the doors but not unlock them. then a few weeks later, my drivers side speaker went out completely. i am also unable to move the driver and passenger side mirrors in all directions when they need to be adjusted. my cruise control also has recently started working off and on. my passenger side speaker has just recently started going in and out. my left turn signal works but doesn't make any noise when it is turned on.

the catalytic converter had strong sulfur smell after the first year. i complained to chevy dealer and was told there was no problem. by year three i complained for the third time again was told no problem the computer didn't show a code. i asked the mechanic to take it for a drive he returned saying the cat was junk it was replaced and i was told only to run top tier gas i did that but after about 8 months it smelled again my truck is just five years old and i need another converter, my power locks have each been replaced three times in second and third year. now i need new airbag sensor and my truck has never been hit .

on multiple occurrences, driving at varying speeds, without traction control disengaged, the parking brake and traction controls warning lights and sounds activated for no apparent reason. the lcd dic indicated stabilitrak off and service brake system messages. tried engaging and disengaging both the parking brake and traction control with no change. when the parking brake was engaged however, the sounder began sounding again and when disengaged it would shut off. service brakes, rotors and calipers were replaced approximately 4000-4500 miles ago. first occurrence was about 1000 miles ago. has occurred 3 times total. possible bad abs sensor?

fleet user of the 1500 chevy pickup trucks. issue reported, head light out. diagnoses showed burnt wires on the head light plug to bulb connecter. repair performed was to replace the harness on both left and right head lights to correct a melting plug connecter. most time its is one headlight affected at a time, but the loss of both head lights is seen.

i have owned my 2008 suburban for 6 years. the dash board is completely broken in different parts. i don't understand how a brand new vehicle at 5 years can possible have the dash board break like that. i have always owned chevrolet but was extremely disappointed as to how the dash board is broken the way it is. i would like to seek help replacing it since i plan to keep this vehicle for a long time. my teenage girls will be getting there vehicle in a year i have told my husband there is no way i will every buy chevrolet again. i would really appreciate some type of explanation for this problem. thank you, alma cardenas.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL

while driving with cruise control on at highway speeds, the traction stability light came on along with brake light. the door locks activated and all dash backlighting went out. after shutting off engine, all electrical power shut off to include the clock on the radio. i checked battery connections and after wiggling the positive battery cable, the power came on. the clock was set to 12:00, and the a/c was reset to 74. this was the first incident. after several incidents, my truck actually stalled in an intersection and i had to stop in the road to adjust the battery cable. i have had approximately 20 incidents of similar nature, each time with increasing symptoms. at one point, the warning light for the a/c overheating came on. also, the battery and cables become extremely hot, and stay hot after engine shutdown for several hours until the cable is readjusted. i have read several forums looking for a solution, and have concluded the most likely source is a failing positive battery cable. in the forums, it seems that the cable was redesigned in 2007, and has affected all vehicles through 2013. this poses a threat to overheating battery connections which could lead to a fire, and threat of a vehicle collision.

when applying brakes going down a mountains, the front end started shaking, it seemed like the front end was falling out. .i had the truck checked out, the first time gm had the rotars turned they said they were worped. this happened 2 more times and it happens when i travel to tn or va or west va. these last 2 times i had it fixed at my expense. i finally had new rotars replaced at my expense . i made a trip to fl . and had to go through tn , which is up and down mountains. ;and it is happening again with the brakes. t was 1 year old the first time this happened. it was taken to gm dealer the first 2 times. the truck only has 63000 miles on it. and the only thing in the truck is my wife and i and the dog and our clothes.

i reversed out of the driveway into a two lane road. i put it in drive and the truck would not move. i had to get it towed to a gm dealership. they said the sprag clutch failed and sent metal pieces through the rest of the transmission to the point that it was unrepairable. they put a whole new transmission in. then they discovered the truck would still not move. the rear differential was locked up too and needed to be completely rebuilt. i ended up paying $4,765.89 to repair a 2008 truck with 89,437 miles on it.

SUSPENSION

4/15/13 pass. side leaf spring broke@10mph. spring landed on brake line,& dragging on road. i heard the noise & stopped. 2nd. incident 4/28/14 driver side leaf spring broke,@50mph fell against rear tire. i could smell rubber burning & stopped as soon as possible. (101892 ) mileage for 2nd incident. thank god my sense of smell & hearing are good ! both times my grandsons were with me. also truck bed was empty, both times.

i get the "service air bag" warning light. the air bags have already gone out and will not deploy as long as the light is on. this truck has been taken very good care of and driven very few miles, but yet the warning light is on after the deal had already made a service bulletin repair to the system. the dealer (gastorf in warrenton, mo) will not repair it without paying up to about $500 (approx. maximum cost), which i can not afford and should not have to consider repairing. i believe air bag items should be something that does not "just break" for no reason.

2008 chevrolet silverado 1500, airbag sensor and check engine light came on with out accident or incident. we called gm and they told us to take it to a dealer. we took to the dealer we bought the truck from new. they ran diagnostic testing and it came back evaporative emission sensor and inflatable restraint front sensor were bad. as a safety/emissions problem it should have been covered under warranty. they gave us a $600 bill in which we made them call the gm representative. they then had us pay $250. 2 1/2 years later and airbag sensor light is back on without accident. this seems to be a big complaint with this year truck. it seems that if the sensor is not working and my family were to be in an accident my airbags would not deploy and we could be hurt or killed in an accident. please investigate the air bag sensors.

TIRES

tire tread is deteriating, chunks of treard is flaking and falling off tire. found a section of tread on second and third line of tread that is starting to seperate from tire. truck has barelt 10,000 miles on original tires with very good tread, truck has air pressure monitor and is checked regularly. tires are defective. i want to get them replaced, before an accident, damage or death occurs!

service air bake light came on when i started the vehicle. after doing some research i have learned that the air bag sensors in the front of the vehicle are known for going bad. the oem part cracks and causes failure and loss of the air bag function. also with research i learned that gm has done nothing to improve or fix this problem. i feel that gm should conduct a safety recall on these sensors so their product does not fail and the passengers inside the vehicle stay protected.
