SOME FOUR (4) MONTHS AGO. I AM THE SOLE OWNER AND DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE. LAST WEEK (AROUND SEPTEMBER 11, 2013) I NOTICED A CRACK IN THE VINYL TOWARD THE RIGHT OF THE GOLD COLORED CHEVROLET BOW TIE POSITIONED IN THE CENTER OF THE STEERING WHEEL AREA. THE CRACK IS A SEMI-CIRCULAR LINE THAT HAS A SLIGHT DEPRESSION TO THE IMMEDIATE LEFT OF THE CRACK. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT TO THE HAWTHORNE CHEVROLET AND THE VERY NEXT DAY, THEY REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG FOR ME. THIS PART INCLUDES THE "RIGID" BLACK SURFACE VINYL WHERE YOU ACTIVATE THE HORN. THE HORN TAKES AN EXTRAORDINARY AMOUNT OF PRESSURE TO ACTIVATE TO MAKE A SOUND DUE TO THE RIGIDITY OF THE VINYL--WHERE THE HORN ICONS (I.E., THE RAISED "TRUMPETS") ARE IS EXTREMELY NON YIELDING--IN MY OPINION. I LEFT THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE REPLACEMENT AIR BAG WAS INSTALLED AND 1/10 OF A MILE AWAY, I NOTICED THE SLIGHT DEPRESSION AND LINE DEMARCATION ALREADY. HAWTHORNE CHEVROLET'S SERVICE DIRECTOR TOLD ME TO RETURN THE FOLLOWING DAY AND AFTER A 2-1/2 HOUR WAIT THE SERVICE DIRECTOR AND A MECHANIC WALKED ME OUT TO ANOTHER 2014 CHEVROLET IMPALA AND STATED THAT ALL OF THEIR IMPALAS ARE LIKE THIS. I AM WORRIED ABOUT UNPREDICTABLE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, DIFFICULTY IN SOUNDING MY HORN AS I DO MUCH OF MY TRAVELING ON A BUSY/DANGEROUS HIGHWAY, AND I WORRY ABOUT FUTURE/CONTINUED CRACKING OF THAT VINYL SURFACE COVERING WHERE I AM TOLD BY HAWTHORNE CHEVROLET'S SERVICE DIRECTOR IS WHERE THE AIR BAG DEPLOYS. AGAIN...THE CAR IS ONLY 4 MONTHS OLD WITH ONLY 2,200 MILES WHEN THIS CRACKING FIRST OCCURRED. I AM WORRIED THAT WHERE THIS CRACK IS LOCATED THE AIR BAG COULD EXIT. I CONTACTED CHEVROLET'S NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THERE ARE 2 ACTIVE SERVICE REQUEST NUMBERS RELATING TO THE CRACK AND THE HORN SOUNDING MATTER. *TR [CMPL_TYPE] => IVOQ [POLICE_RPT_YN] => N [PURCH_DT] => [ORIG_OWNER_YN] => N [ANTI_BRAKES_YN] => N [CRUISE_CONT_YN] => N [NUM_CYLS] => 6 [DRIVE_TRAIN] => [FUEL_SYS] => [FUEL_TYPE] => BF [TRANS_TYPE] => [VEH_SPEED] => [DOT] => [TIRE_SIZE] => [LOC_OF_TIRE] => [TIRE_FAIL_TYPE] => [ORIG_EQUIP_YN] => [MANUF_DT] => [SEAT_TYPE] => [RESTRAINT_TYPE] => [DEALER_NAME] => [DEALER_TEL] => [DEALER_CITY] => [DEALER_STATE] => [DEALER_ZIP] => [PROD_TYPE] => V [REPAIRED_YN] => [NICAR_FAILDATE] => 0000-00-00 [NICAR_DATEA] => [NICAR_LDATE] => [NICAR_PURCH_DT] => [NICAR_MANUF_DT] => [nicarid] => 0 ) [5] => Array ( [CMPLID] => 1024516 [ODINO] => 10553585 [MFR_NAME] => General Motors LLC [MAKETXT] => CHEVROLET [MODELTXT] => IMPALA [YEARTXT] => 2014 [CRASH] => Y [FAILDATE] => 20131121 [FIRE] => N [INJURED] => 0 [DEATHS] => 0 [COMPDESC] => AIR BAGS [CITY] => LARAMIE [STATE] => WY [VIN] => [DATEA] => 20131124 [LDATE] => 20131124 [MILES] => 11368 [OCCURENCES] => 1 [CDESCR] => AT 55 MPH ON A SLIPPERY RIGHT HAND SIDE CURVE (SPEED LIMIT IS 65 MPH) VEHICLE UNDER-STEERED AND LOST TRACTION COMPLETELY, WITHOUT TOUCHING THE BRAKES, IT STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND SKIDDED TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE CURVE (TO THE LEFT). THIS WAS IN OCTOBER OF 2013 ON THE PROPERTY OF THE DEALERSHIP. IN FEBRUARY OF 2014, AFTER A DAY OF RAIN, I RANDOMLY CHECKED THE SPARE TIRE WELL AND FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM. SINCE MY CAR IS KEPT IN MY GARAGE EVERY DAY AFTER WORKING, I KNEW THIS HAD TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR MODEL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS GIVEN A LOANER VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD BE ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE I COULD BE PROVIDED AN ANSWER. I STILL MUST PAY THE FULL PAYMENTS, FOR A FAULTY VEHICLE. I RECEIVE A LETTER DATED MARCH 2014, ON 14 APRIL 2014. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE SINCE FEBRUARY. WHY WAS I NOT CONTACTED. EVEN IF THEY FIX THIS PROBLEM, I WILL NOT BE SATISFIED PAYING THE MONTHLY PAYMENTS REQUIRED FOR A FAULTY VEHICLE. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN JUNE 2013. THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF THE CAR IS AND UNDER THE SEATS ARE WET AND MOLDED. SOME MANY OF MY FRATERNITY PAPERS AND CLOTHING'S WERE DAMAGED. at 70 mph vehicle slowed on its own. vehicle information center read "stabilitrak and engine power is reduced". got yellow traction control system light on the instrument panel with a "malfunction indicator light" below the speedometer.engine running rough at ashland, va exit.engine was shut down then restarted with same warnings as before.approximately 45 mins later restarted to have a local chevrolet dealer look at the car. on restart, all warnings and indicator lights except for the "malfunction indicator light" were out and engine ran normally.dealer guessed that it was probably a "glitch" and it was probably ok to drive.the 800 or so miles to sarasota were without problems. on 8/5/2013 took car to local dealer approximately 3 miles from my home. on entering the dealer's parking lot at approximately 10 mph the problem reappeared i.e. "engine power reduced with stabilitrak" with warning lights as before. this is a safety issue as it can happen at any time!!

i purchased my new 2014 chevrolet impala from hawthorne chevrolet in hawthorne, n.j. some four (4) months ago. i am the sole owner and driver of this vehicle. last week (around september 11, 2013) i noticed a crack in the vinyl toward the right of the gold colored chevrolet bow tie positioned in the center of the steering wheel area. the crack is a semi-circular line that has a slight depression to the immediate left of the crack. i immediately drove it to the hawthorne chevrolet and the very next day, they replaced the steering wheel air bag for me. this part includes the "rigid" black surface vinyl where you activate the horn. the horn takes an extraordinary amount of pressure to activate to make a sound due to the rigidity of the vinyl--where the horn icons (i.e., the raised "trumpets") are is extremely non yielding--in my opinion. i left the dealership after the replacement air bag was installed and 1/10 of a mile away, i noticed the slight depression and line demarcation already. hawthorne chevrolet's service director told me to return the following day and after a 2-1/2 hour wait the service director and a mechanic walked me out to another 2014 chevrolet impala and stated that all of their impalas are like this. i am worried about unpredictable steering wheel air bag deployment, difficulty in sounding my horn as i do much of my traveling on a busy/dangerous highway, and i worry about future/continued cracking of that vinyl surface covering where i am told by hawthorne chevrolet's service director is where the air bag deploys. again...the car is only 4 months old with only 2,200 miles when this cracking first occurred. i am worried that where this crack is located the air bag could exit. i contacted chevrolet's national customer service and there are 2 active service request numbers relating to the crack and the horn sounding matter.

at 55 mph on a slippery right hand side curve (speed limit is 65 mph) vehicle under-steered and lost traction completely, without touching the brakes, it started to slow down and skidded to the outside of the curve (to the left). i tried to get it back to the driving lane, it started to skid laterally to the right and slowed down until it hit a reflector post on the edge of the right lane and stopped. vehicle information on the dash board read "ice detected...". although the damage on the right door was a very minor dent, the car deployed all 4 head curtain airbags and 2 right side airbags, engine was shut down and front seat-belts were stuck. few minutes later, the engine ran normally with the "ice detected .." message still on. it seems that the airbags sensors were activated for no required reason for a minor dent on the door. also, the stability and the faulty braking system might be of a great safety issue on this vehicle.

upon signing the initial papers for delivery of the purchase of a new vehicle, i conducted an inventory of the vehicle and found a full trunk load of water in the location where the spare tire is kept. the salesman assumed the car had been washed and the trunk left open. water was removed by salesman, and nothing was documented as an issue at the dealership. this was in october of 2013 on the property of the dealership. in february of 2014, after a day of rain, i randomly checked the spare tire well and found the same problem. since my car is kept in my garage every day after working, i knew this had to be an issue with this particular model. i took the vehicle back to the dealership for diagnosis and was given a loaner vehicle. i was told that it would be about a week before i could be provided an answer. just want to mention that nothing else inside of the trunk was ever wet beside the spare tire and the entire spare tire well. the cover to the spare tire well was always dry. first incident on 19 oct 2013; second incident on 21 feb 2014.

the passenger air bag sensor is not working right. there is no person in the seat, or object and the light says the passenger air bag is on. sometimes the chime goes off for the non-occupant to put on their seatbelt, but most the time it does not. i have had it back to the dealer 2 times. the first time, they said they check the sensor's 'readings' and there was zero information from it. that was all that was done. the second time i took the car in they said they fixed it and on the ride home and everyday since then, the light is on for the airbag with no occupant. also, the second time i took it in was because of water/mold damage to the entire bottom inside of my trunk because of the recall of the tail light gasket. i was given a loaner car the 10 days they had mine and the trunk of that 2014 impala was full of water in the spare tire area and mold on the top of trunk carpeting. i am afraid that the passenger airbag may not deploy in an accident.

forward collision avoidance system inappropriate activation on several occasions at different locations. there were no other vehicle in front. there were three beeps/red light flash on windshield. the cruise control would deactivate and car would decelerate by three to five mile. the tail lamps are not activated to warn drivers following. this is my second complaint the dealer solution is to turn off the feature. it work when it should the inappropriate activation is a nuisance.
