lost tire pressure in one tire (right rear) in brand new vehicle after 100 miles driving due to improperly installed air valve with tire pressure monitor system sensor attached to tire air valve. tire pressure monitor system alerted driver to a sudden loss of pressure. driver was able to drive to a tire repair shop after changing to spare tire. tire repair person found no leaks in tire, and upon dis-mounting the tire discovered the tire air valve was not properly seated. after properly installing the air valve and remounting the wheel on the vehicle, the tire had no further leakage until the end of the rental when we returned the vehicle to the rental agency, at 2600 miles. vehicle is a rental vehicle; one of many identical recently delivered to rental car agency. complainant was a renter, not the owner of the vehicle. the vehicle manual identifies the vehicle as a 2011 model year vehicle.

chevy hhr vehicle. dangerous window defect. windows implode for no apparent reason. shoddy workmanship on the window seals. were traveling in portland down highway 05 when the back drivers side window just imploded for no reason. glass was thrown all over the car. if there had been a passenger sitting there they could have been seriously hurt or blinded by flying glass. these vehicles should be recalled until this problem with the windows is fixed.

i had another car pull partially out of a driveway into the path of my 2010 hhr lt and there was not enough distance between me and the other vehicle to stop . there was another car in the other lane traveling towards me but there was enough space where i could get around the car that pulled out of the driveway and be out of the way of the car in the other lane, but when i turned the wheel rapidly to the left and tried to speed up the stability control came on and would not allow my 2010 hhr to gain speed almost resulting in a head on wreck.

three weeks ago my 2007 chevy hhr began not shifting out of park. it takes at least 10 minutes each time i get in my car to shift into drive or reverse. i have tried everything. now the only way i get it out of park is to turn to key forward and press on the brake and push in the button on the shifter. after about 5 minutes it will finally go into gear. i need to understand what the issue is and if so many people are dealing with the same issue why isn't there any help out there from the manufacturer or a recall to fix this?

i have experienced the failure to shift from the park position into drive on a few occasions. had to shut the car off, restart and then press the brake pedal down firmly and hold. shift mechanism operated normally after that event. not sure if this is a mechanical or electrical issue? i would suspect electrical.

the 2010 chevy hhr key became stuck in the ignition while the suv was running. we were unable to remove the key at all. it was very scary for us. the suv was turned on at 6:00 a.m. we were forced to leave it running until 8:30 a.m. when the dealer ship opened. i had stopped to put gas in the vehicle when i realized that it would not come out. after searching the web i found out that many other hhr owners are having the same thing happen to them.

tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet hhr. while driving approximately 45 mph the gauges on the instrument cluster began to fluctuate abnormally as the transmission began to jump while shifting gears. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the sporadic failure four times where the body control module, lubricated the high speed land modular connectors and replaced the power steering control module, all to no avail. the fourth visit to the dealer, per the manufacturer, the dealer was advised not to perform any further repairs. the manufacturer was contacted and advised that because the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure they were unable to provide any further assistance. the contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. the vehicle was not further repaired. the failure mileage was 277 and the current mileage was 12,345.

the ignition interlock cylinder in our 2010 chevrolet hhr failed and the key became stuck. we were unable to remove the key or turn it to the "off" position. i had to remove the fuel pump fuse and battery to shut the vehicle off. this also disabled the airbags in the vehicle. gm stated they knew there was a problem and have issued "advisories" but no recall so the customer is responsible.

bought a used 2010 chevrolet hhr on july 09, 2011 from a major dealer. on july 23,2011, drove two miles to super market. the engine would not shut off and i could not remove the key from the ignition. finally had to disconnect battery to stop the engine from running. had the vehicle towed to chevrolet dealer and was told the ignition lock cylinder was broken. fortunately, the vehicle was still under factory warranty and was repaired at no cost. the service advisor said this occurs frequently with this car and would no doubt happen again. great to know it will happen again, only you don't know where you will be when it happens or what time of day or night.

the key will not turn to the off position, can not turn off vehicle, have to disconnect fuel pump power and then disconnect the vehicle battery. mfg knows of this problem and will not do anything with out charging large amount of money. i have been a mechanic for many years and have not seen this problem ever. i want to see a recall to correct this very dangerous condition.

i went to turn of my car after taking my wife to work, and the ignition would not turn off. i had to sit in my car for 5 hrs at the repair shop till they opened. this repair cost me $452.00 was told that the ignition was bad and the housing that the tumlers set in was bad. the traction light comes on and after about 2 min will go off. tire monitor for tire pressure comes on and goes off now it is off for the left rear tire. *kb

i was driving down a busy street when my car starting beeping(warning chime) and the power steering light came on. i went to pull my car over to the next side street and found it very difficult to do so. i found i could turn my car off and wait 30 sec and the steering would come back, but within 3 min. i would lose it again and i would have to keep repeating the process. this has happened multiple times. the car is now at the dealer for repair. the steering is unsafe in this car.

my 2010 chevy hhr has experienced an ignition issue. the key, when the car is set to park, will not disengage. it remains on, with the only option being to let the car run out of gas/the battery to drain. the key will turn (as if to start the car), and the gear can be shifted from park to reverse, neutral, etc., but will not turn off. all systems stay on, potentially burning out electrical components or causing permanent engine damage. the only way to safely address the immediate issue is to disengage the fuses under the steering wheel, which many consumers may be unable to do.

my 2010 hhr has experienced an ignition issue as well. i cannot get the key to turn back to the off position. i got home from work at midnight, put the car in park and when i tried to shut the car off it would not turn back. the only option i had was to pull the ecm fuse and disconnect the battery (or let it run out of gas). the gear shifter will allow me to shift between all gears but it won't turn off. all the electrical stay on, i have only owned this car for 3 months.

on 1/13/2012 while on a road trip, i lost the power steering to my hhr and the dic displayed "power steering". i immediately pulled the car off the road, turned it off, and looked under the hood to see if i could find any problems with the belts. nothing was found and i restarted the engine and the problem was gone. two weeks later, the problem has returned. turning off the engine and restarting it will resolve the problem for a short time, then once driving, the power steering goes out again. the power steering motor in the hhr is the same model noted in the recall for the 2010 chevy cobolt noted in nhtsa action number: pe10005. there are many complaints of this same issue all over the internet. while i intend to have the problem repaired, it is imperative that investigation for this particular issue is considered as the colbolt and hhr share the same frame and are almost identical in schematic makeup. *tt

i was at walmart my key would not turn at all. i called a chevy dealership they said that it was a recall but not on 2010 just 2009. i had the ignition switch replaced at my cost. today january 31 my key will not come out of the ignition switch which i'm for sure is defective parts on gms account this is a problem that many owners of complained on all over google. *tt

i was turning left at a duel left turn lanes, i was on the out side, as i turned and accelerated to 35 the big red truck on the inside lane came into my lane of travel. as i saw this big red truck going across my hood i tried to stop and down shift when the left front tire skidded and the car jerked to the left and the car and truck met.

we were driving our hhr on a clear sunny day and the ecs came on and off causing the vehicle to shake and become uncontrollable until we pulled off the road and shut the hhr off and turned it back on, this was the first indecent. we took the hhr to the dealer and they reprogrammed the computer, this worked for almost a year before it started doing this again. we have once again took it to the dealer and have been told there is nothing wrong with the hhr, i asked them what to do because the hhr is unsafe when the ecs fails because you have no control over the vehicle, and they told me they have no answers.

while driving apx. 25mph the warning "ding sound" came on & the display read "power steering". by putting the car in neutral and turning the key off & turning it back on & putting in drive, it temporarily remedies the problem but not for long. sometimes this has to be done 15-20 times. this is driving in town or interstate, it makes no difference. we purchased the car in july 30, 2011 with 45k miles on it. eight months later, we started having this problem. i've seen many forums with the same complaint and feel that there definitely needs to be a recall on this model. this is dangerous and sounds like a malfunction from the manufacturer and they should step up and recall. this needs to be investigated immediately! *js

i returned from the grocery store and my key couldn't switch off the ignition or be withdrawn. the car was running while i did some research and tried out the plunger release that worked for others. i discovered that the plunger to release the lock is working properly, so it must be the ignition lock itself that is defective. i found the fuse block and located the fuel pump fuse and pulled it to stall the engine. the ignition is still on, but since it's 9pm, i'll have to wait until tomorrow before i can get it checked.

i drive a 2010 chevy hhr. i noticed not to long after i purchased it new the door(drivers side passenger) would not open from outside or even inside when i would crawl inside and try to get it open. it would only do it on occasion. now it has ceased to happen at all in the past 6 months. on may 25th of this year the passenger side did the same thing. my mother and i were traveling to my daughters graduation and it completely locked her inside. she could not get the door opened at all even though i hit the unlock button and she tried many times to do the same thing on her side. the actual door lock was in the up position showing that the door appeared to be in the unlock position but when she went for the handle it was still locked. this happened several times on this day. it even set my alarm system on my car off because after it refused to unlock it eventually did and then refused to lock back. i go around after getting out of the vehicle making sure all my doors were secured and it was not locked even though the latch was in the down position and appeared to be secured. is this a computer problem with these vehicles? i have read about problems with the older model hhr's having this problem but not on a newer one of the year i have. what i want to know is can someone access my computer board in my vehicle and set those locks to mess up? it was almost like someone was maybe wanting in my vehicle and what a better way to do it than to mess with the locking system. i would have never known my vehicle was unlocked had i not went over and physically checked it that day because like i said it appeared to be locked. the lock actually went down when i hit my key fob to lock my doors that day. weird thing is...it hasn't done it since then....how does a vehicle fix itself?

on approximately march 26 2012 at night on a trip from phoenix az to reno nv my vehicle low beam headlamps went out, i drove from kingman az to indian springs nv with just my highbeams after stopping in indian springs and trying every knob and switch in the vehicle the front low beams came on. then in the month of april the low beams went out all together and after being in the shop for 2 days it was diagnosed with a relay problem and repair was made and i had low beams again, but now the horn doesn't function and after being pulled over by the police i was advised that my taillights are out. both problems possibly related to a fuse or relay problem but i haven't had it in the shop yet. now when i purchased the veh in september of 2011 i noticed that the vehicle would shutter to a stop when applying the brakes, sometimes violently. had a brake job done in march and was advised that the front rotors were warped. had them repaired and everything was fine until approximately june 1st when the shuttering/vibrating started up again and the sometimes violently at that. i am really concerned when i apply the brakes that something may break lose when i apply the brakes. i've read on the internet many complaints from chevrolet hhr (different year models) owners of the same complaints and that after having the brakes worked on that the vibrating/shuttering comes back within 3 months. thank you. returning home from dinner with my husband, he put the car in park, and the ignition switch would not turn off, though he repeatedly tried. with the engine still running, we had no recourse but for him to take it to a chevrolet dealer 30 miles away, where they said they would have to replace the ignition switch, and reprogram the computer and key fobs. this is a known defect with the hhr. why has there not been a recall? they have even manufactured a replacement part for this, so they know there is a problem. it will cost us over 300.00 to get this replaced, and i don't feel it is our fault that this has happened, to us, and the many other hhr owners who are wondering where is the recall?? our car is a 2010 model, so it is not that old.

arrived home from grocery shopping and i parked my vehicle. i tried to turn the ignition off and the key would not turn. i pulled the power cable off the fuse box under the hood to shut the vehicle off. i live in a townhouse sub-division and did not want to leave the key in the ignition so i removed the ignition cylinder. i called the dealer where i bought the car and they towed it to their shop. the looked at the vehicle and told me it was under oem warranty and they had it towed to a chevrolet dealer to have it fixed. the dealership said they would fix the ignition switch under warranty but the housing would have to be replaced at a cost to me. they replaced the parts and the vehicle would not start. the dealership called the next day and said the ecm (engine control module) would not hold its programming and needed to be replaced at my cost. total repair $1275.00.

my 2010 hhr : the drivers side interior door handle snapped off and have to put down the window to exit the car. when this happened there was no excessive pressure used to open the door. dissatisfied that it is composed of a soft plastic material. the cost to replace the handle requires an new door panel and 2+ hours of labor for a total of over $500.00.

i was driving my car to the dollar store and was stopped at the red "left turn" arrow, and all of a sudden, the "power steering" sign flashed on my dashboard and my car made a "ding ding" noise. when the light turned green, i turned left and it was extremely hard for me to turn the wheel. it has been happening since. i will turn the car off, and when i turn the car back on, it drives fine for the first few minutes, and then the "power steering" sign came back on. the "power steering" sign has also appeared when i was making a right turn which caused the wheel to lock up in the middle of a turn. the car jerked and i almost crashed into a black sedan. i have a small child who sits in the back seat. i don't have much money, so i can not afford to pay the dealership to get this issue fixed. i took it to a cheap repair shop, and they could not find the issue. i have been looking online to find what ways i can fix this without it costing me a lot of money. have not been able to find a solution, so i am currently driving with no "power steering" which can be very dangerous. in addition to my power steering going out, a couple months ago, i went out to my car to get in my car, and put my key in the ignition and turned the car on. made it to the store, and when i was getting ready to get out of the car, the key would not come out of the ignition. i could not turn it, or anything. the car would not turn off. i had to have aaa disconnect my battery so that my car didn't have to stay running until the dealership opened in the morning. my key had to sit in the ignition over night, someone could have stolen my car. i took it to the dealership the next morning and they had to replace the whole ignition cylinder.

i was driving home on a secondary road in the foot hills of north carolina while it was raining last night when i was going in a curve and suddenly the power steering cut out and i couldn't turn the vehicle properly. i was traveling approx. 35 mph going into the curve at the time of the problem, due to the sudden problem, i had crossed the center line of the road due to the loss of proper steering and the wet roads, even though i applied the brakes and tried to turn. i heard a chime and saw the trouble indicator showing a problem with the power steering. i fortunately didn't have any on coming traffic or anyone behind me at the time or there could have been a serious injury accident. living in the foot hills of nc with many curves and hills this is a definite safety issue that needs to be corrected with the power steering and hhr vehicles. i was only a mile from home so i drove there and checked to see what was happening. when i restarted the vehicle, the power steering appears to have corrected itself. checking on line for possible reasons for the problem, i am made aware that the hhr's and other vehicles that use the electric power steering have had similar issues (even recalls) for a while now. i find it unacceptable not to include the hhr vehicle since this is a known issue with this model vehicle. as an individual who works in the safety & health field, i strive to keep incidents from occurring that could lead to fatalities, injuries and or property damage and feel that a recall should be done to prevent the potential loss of life from occurring. i am also a certified defensive driver instructor through the nc safety council for cars and transfer trucks. responding to vehicle accidents is part of my job and i must emphasize that the issue of steering control on any vehicle should not be debated or sat upon until lives are lost.

i was coming home and heard a chime, then the power steering light came on and i lost control of the steering. could not turn the wheel, i turned off the car and restarted it, worked for a few minutes, long enough so i could park it. i had the car towed to the dealership the next day, they ran diagnostics and repaired it under warranty. i was thankful for that, but i am concerned about other car owners that do not know about the problem and may be driving on the freeway at a much faster speed when the power steering shuts down. there should be a total recall on this defect!

yesterday morning coming home from church our 2010 hhr power steering went out. we were in the middle of a turn and thank god no one was coming in the other lane. in the midst of the turn the warning bell sounded and the display showed "poor steering", no other warnings beforehand. and all power steering was gone. it will comeback for a few seconds if you turn the car off, but goes right back out everytime. i looked on the internet to find i am not alone, 1000?s of people have complained and had this same exact experience. why has this not been recalled, does someone have to die first? my whole family could have been injured (me, my husband, our 17 year old son, and 2 grandbabies!) we took the car in today (10-29-12) to be looked at (that cost $85.00) and they said the power steering motor has to be replaced and that will be another $250.00!

while driving on the interstate at app. 70-75 miles per hour in moderate to heavy traffic the power steering turned off. i was able to pull off onto the shoulder and park. i shut down the engine to check under the hood and under the car but could find nothing obvious. when i restarted the car to drive to the next off-ramp the power steering was back. the problem repeated 3 more times that trip. shutting off the car and restarting always corrects the problem. since than we have had the same problem occur intermittently. no pattern as to when problem occurs.

vehicle shut down due to power steering. light came on, manual says to turn off engine and restart and it will clear light. however, when reaching speed of 40mph the power steering was again hard to turn. again light came on. vehicle is very hard to turn and get over to side of road especially if you are in the left hand lane and the power steering quits working. upon the second time this happened, almost causing a wreck, it was extremely difficult to steer vehicle and get it off the roadway. took vehicle to dealership and was told the vehicle needs power steering repair. costing $365.00. what a costly repair on a new vehicle. i have had older vehicles that never had the power steering needing repair. also ask that transmission be checked again. vehicle has already had rebuilt transmission installed by gm/ chevrolet. transmission is still slipping when trying to get on freeway. when slowing down from high speed, the transmission will sound like it is slipping into another gear.

after backing out of a parking space, stopping, and proceeding forward i attempted to again apply the brake after about 150 feet of moving forward. the brake pedal was hard but the brakes were not being applied at all. it made no difference even when applying much additional pressure to the pedal. it felt like the abs was preventing the brakes from working as i coasted to a stop. after a brief amount of time the brakes seemed to work normally. it has now happened two additional times after the car has been sitting for a number of hours.

i was pulling out of a parking lot at about 5 mph then i thought my engine stalled because i couldn't turn the wheel. it turns out the engine was on, and power steering appeared on the display. i pulled over to see what was wrong. after turning the car off, then on, the problem went away (i think for only a temporary period).

water started coming in vehicle from hood release lever on driver side kick panel while driving in the rain. vehicle was taken to dealer, repaired. however during the next severe rain storm approximately 5 month later it again failed and leaked again. dealer stated it was repaired the second time, however again 4 months later during a severe rain storm it again failed and leaked. it was not repaired the third time, dealer stating that it was not leaking, and nothing was wrong with the car. dealer refuses to honor washington lemon law. dealer initiated a trade for the vehicle, however only want to give 1/2 what paid for the vehicle 11 months earlier. have found multiple references that this is a known issue but no recall done on vehicle, only stopped manufacturing it.

at low speeds in a sharp turn and/or on bumpy roads and sometimes during breaking at high speed, i notice a rattle in the steering column. i told the dealer that i thought my front rotors may be worn but they checked out ok. i think its the electric steering column box with a worn nylon bushing the same as the g6 steering problems. because my mileage went over 36000 and this problem was not initially diagnosed as a steering problem and not being a power train problem, chevy indicated that its not covered under warranty and there is no recall for this issue. my parents have an 07 hhr that is having overheating issues in their power-steering, along with the back lashing in the column caused by, i think, the nylon bushing going bad.

on 3/7/13 my service air bag light came on the next day my door handle broke off and i called gm and they stated they had been no recalls for these problems. after looking online i saw that people were having all kinds of problems with these issues and they are both big safety issues. i feel like gm is not wanting to take care of these issues. the air bag could deploy at any time and the if i was in a wreck or auto was on fire i'd have no way of getting out the vehicle with the door handle broke off. they just told me it was up to me or i'd have to wait until they was enough complaints. that doesn't seem right now i'm having to leave the car sitting cause of these safety issues since i'm on a limited income and gm should be responsible for these safety issues. thank you very much

2010 hhr 2lt (manual trans / flex fuel) bought new. problem began summer 2012 @ 10,200 mi. clicking & thud metal noises heard & felt (jerky & resonance of metal striking) coming from low down in both front sections. initially occurred erratically during driving, then consistently. occurred: reversing; and accelerating from 1st gear into 2nd, 3rd, 4th; downshifting from 4th to lower; and during slow stops shifting from 3rd, 2nd, or 1st into neutral. on 9/14/12 at 11,242 mi., dealer found "too much clearance between hub & cv shaft" and an existing service bulletin #09-04--95-001. replaced both wheel drive shaft washers. (note: noise & feeling has erratically returned. however, dealer did not hear it during 3/4/13 test drive at 13,313 miles. but i heard it on the way home a couple of times. and last year, it was erratic before becoming consistent....).

power steering stops working at all speeds and conditions. dash lights up saying power steering and from that point on until vehicle is restarted there is no power steering. it has happen many times over the last week dealer states that the power steering motor is bad and needs to be replaced at a cost of $265. there are 1000s of complaints of this happening why is nothing being done. canadian hhr has a recall on this but not us hhr. its not the money its the safety of the motoring public that is question here.if not for the fact i have driven a car not equipped with power steering before it could have been really bad when it turned off in a turn.

while going around a bend in the road at approx 35/40mph, the power steering in my 2010 chevy hhr went out. there was a ding and then it was very difficult to turn the wheel. i almost hit a jeep that was turning into a subdivision opposite of us because i could not turn the wheel to get in the passing area. this resulted in me going off of the road. i pulled onto the next side road i saw. checked for any issues and restarted. i regained power steering and was able to be on my way. in approx. another mile or so it went out again. it did so intermittently all the way to the dealer. the dealer was of no help basically saying it was an operator error. there was a steering recall that i had taken care of earlier in the year and my mechanic said that it looks like it was replaced with equally defective parts. my mechanic also said that it's not a "wear part" and nothing that i did could have caused it to do that. it is a short on the motor/computer for the power steering.

i have had two issues with this car and it has made me feel unsafe when driving it. the first involves the brakes. when braking after driving at 45mph or more, the steering wheel begins shaking. i was told the brake pads needed to be changed. i did and the problem still continued. last month, the power steering light came on the dashboard. for a couple of days, it went away but soon the steering wheel became too hard to turn. took it to mechanic who changed the power steering module as indicated by the diagnostics test. once the change was done, the service esc light came on and the car has been crazy ever since. i have yet to resolve the issue as nobody knows what is wrong with my car. it has been almost a month already. i am unhappy with this car and would not recommend to anybody. after looking it up, i see that many have this same issue. it is very unsafe since this can happen at any moment while driving!

i was turning in the driveway of an apartment building and a bell went off and the steering got really hard to turn. i looked at the dash and saw the power steering light had come on. i got out my book and it says the power steering doesn't need maintenance, but to call the dealer if it happens. well, i restarted the car and the light went out, so i drove to the store a few blocks away and it did it again. luckily i wasn't going fast or in heavy traffic or a really bad accident could have happened and lives could have been lost. i have had ignition problems, i couldn't turn off the vehicle, loss of engine power, rotor replaced. two of the same side broken inside driver door handles and bad gas mileage. the steering has been the most dangerous so far. i read on-line how many people this has happened to and i wonder when they will recall this vehicle. when someone dies?

while driving the car on sat 04/27/2013 at a rate of 45 mph i went to make a turn and the steering froze up making it very difficult to make any kind of turn. i found out then that it had a power steering motor vs a reservoir or anything like that. took it the next day to my mechanic who said fuses checked out good he believes it is the power steering motor. calling chevrolet but getting the run around not good for a part that can cause a major accident.

while driving the car the power steering light comes on, there is a ding, and suddenly the power steering goes out. it first happened 10 days ago and happens at random times everything the car is driven. the power steering will reset if the engine is shut off and restarted, but it will soon go out again within seconds or minutes. this is a very dangerous issue and has caused us near accidents. i see that there are many, many complaints about this issue on hhr's of multiple model years. please address this issue. i have never had power steering on a vehicle just go out before. this is a late model car and an issue of this type and of this frequency definitely points to a defect and not a wear and tear issue. a recall is needed!

my seat belt continued to get stuck on the drivers side of my hhr. (what if i were to have had a wreck and couldn't get out?) took vehicle into a dealership monday 4/29/2013 evening around 5 to have them look at it to see if there was anything stuck etc. with the buckle itself. service writer looked at it and managed to get it stuck and from then i could not get the buckle unbuckled so therefore i have had to drive around sitting on my seat belt. the service writer determined that it was the mechanism in the buckle itself causing the seat belt to get stuck. since my warranty is up because i am over 14,000 miles i am having to foot the bill for this item. the car is only 3 years old has never had a wreck nor have i spilled anything or done damage to this buckle. i feel that this is a safety issue that needs to be looked at and paid for by chevy. cars from the 60's and 70's still have their original buckles so therefore why am i having to replace one that is 3 years old?! i also called around to wrecking yards to possibly locate the part and come to find out i am not the only one having this issue because the guy at the shop knew exactly the part i was looking for and which side i was looking for as soon as i said hhr.

driving down interstate at 65mph when the electronic power steering failed without warning. could barely get maneuver car off road onto exit. shut car down to check out, restarted car, everything worked fine and power steering was functioning. turned back around to go home and park car, power steering went out again - this time as i was turning off main road, into my subdivision. almost had car in the ditch as wheel jerked back and power steering went out again. got car to driveway and shut down. restarted car and everything came back online again. drove car down subdivision street to test the problem. could not go more than 5-10 seconds before power steering shut off. very dangerous. i am a 6'2", 225 lb guy and i struggled to get car off the road. when steering, the car is not like an older car without power steering, it turns like you have to fight the wheel. if someone is not aware of the problem and it goes out for the first time in mid-turn, this could definitely cause an accident or kill someone.

bought used 2010 chevy hhr in early february 2013 from a dealer. shortly after the 30 day warranty is over, message lights up on the dash while driving "power steering" then the power steering turns off. i almost crashed as i was turning the first time i experienced this! the power steering is restored when you restart the car. this happens sporadically all the time, at any speed and sometimes several times in just a 10 minute drive. the car is hard to steer when the power steering goes off and is seriously dangerous!

while driving the power steering warning light dinged and i had been making a turn which almost caused a accident not knowing why it went out. i can drive the car for 1 or 2 miles and it keeps going out and i have to restart the car for it to be working again but im told it some type of module that controls it and its not covered by any warranty. i think chevy needs to correct this issue before someone is killed for a steering issue . i see i am not the only one with this issue there have been others.

in the last week the power steering has went out 5+ times while driving it on city streets. i will be driving around 40 mph then i will here a dinging sound then look at the dash and it says power steering. after it says power steering there will be a complete loss in power steering assist from the electronic power steering. this is a big safety hazard because it could easily cause a wreck if driving around a curve when it goes out.

i was driving on the expressway and my power steering warning came on and vehicle was tighter, after exiting the expressway the vehicle became even harder to steer. i pulled into a has station checked all the fuses all we're fine, restarted the vehicle power steering worked again, after a few miles the power steering light came back on and was difficult to turn. this is very dangerous i had 3 small children in my vehicle and could have been a very bad situation.

the power steering (electrical) warning light came on and my power steering failed as i was pulling out of a gas station making a left hand turn. i was able to put the car in reverse and back into the parking lot. i turned the car off and restarted it. the same warning flashed and the power steering failed again. my wife, eight-year old daughter, and i were getting ready to get onto the expressway before this occurred. after doing research, i have uncovered the fact that gm has had this type of problem with the cobalt and other models (including many hhr owners) but have yet to recall the hhr for this problem even though there are many online complaints about the same exact problem occurring around the 45,000-60,000 mile mark. the fact that gm knows that certain components are failing and have not yet recalled the vehicle is troubling. if this malfunction were to happen at high speed (with no previous warning light of a potential problem until actual power steering failure), or in the middle of a turn in a busy intersection, the results will be catastrophic. i would like to hope that gm would be more proactive in protecting the lives of its customers and families. i really hope that it won't take a tragic "loss of life" event to get gm and the federal government to take the appropriate precautions to protect americans who drive this vehicle.

on june 29, 2013, i put my key into the ignition, the key wouldn't go all the way into the ignition. the recalled ignition had been replaced at gmc buick, hilltop. when i called gmc buick, hilltop richmond ca, on june 29, 2013, and spoke to [xxx] at gmc buick, hilltop richmond ca, she stated it was probably a different problem but to bring the car in to get it checked out. when i arrived at gmc buick, i was then told it would be $ 150.00 up front to just check out the car. i scheduled a service appointment with bay city chevrolet in oakland ca on 7/8/13. it was determined by bay city chevrolet, " cust recall n120045- ignition was removed , no grease was applied during recall; bay city applied correct lock cylinder grease. i was charged $ 45.00. this recalled ignition that was replaced june 6, 2012, by hilltop buick whom failed to put grease in the replaced ignition resulting in possible damage to the replaced recall ignition. i was also charged $ 45.00. hilltop buick gmc was negligent in not putting grease in the replaced ignition. this recalled ignition had been on my chevy hhr from 6/4/12 to 7/8/13, without grease in the lock cylinder of this recalled ignition. i want the recalled ignition replaced and reimbursed my $45 by hilltopbuick or gmc. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

door handles are junk. driver side broke at 58k. switched with rear driver. at 74k that one broke. 75k passenger side broke. handles are brittle. i have never encounter such a problem with any other car. it is an "american" car and people expect a certain standard so i am really disappointed.

the hhr inside door handle broke off while opening door.had this happened under other conditions it could have resulted in a tragedy. looking this up on the internet breaking inside door handles appears to be a common problem for the hhr .handles are made of light plastic.

on the highway i heard some warning beeps and my info screen said "power steering". my steering became increasingly more difficult to use especially after i got off the highway. after turning off the car and turning the car back on the steering worked again. now it goes out every so often. seems to be a common problem on the hhr, but no recall yet.

car stalls at any speed. sometimes starts right back up and other times will not for a while. my car died as i was getting on the freeway ramp in a construction zone at 45 mph and climbing. suddenly died and i had to star it back up. traffic was heavy and i almost got into a serious accident. died 7 times in less than 15 miles. no warning lights. oil good, fuel good, it just dies without notice.

the electrical power system in my 2010 chevy hhr completely failed 3 days ago while driving down the road. we were unable to steer this vehicle and it almost caused a bad traffic accident. the power system failed at 68,000 miles. it is apparent that numerous hhr owners has experienced this problem but gm has taken no action to recall this part on this vehicle. researching the electronic power system part number 19257875 i discovered that gm has other vehicles that have a recall applicable to the hhr that match the part number in question. buick, cadillac, pontiac, cobalt have recalls on this same part number which cover a life time warranty. this is a very serious problem with the hhr and the electronic power system and gm should have initiated a recall on the electronic power system ages ago. what are they waiting for. someone to be seriously injured or killed.

2010 hhr with 35,000 miles, steering message came on and car wouldn't steer. stopped car and steering came back on for a while then went out again. did this several times over weekend making steering almost impossible. took car to dealer, they replaced the motor stating it was overheating, per computer. cost me 271.00, i am retired and it has put me in a financial squeeze. reason i bought a new car to avoid having problems like this, still making car payments. definitely believe this is a major defect on this car.

10/1/13 as i left work, heading home, the car drove fine for approx. the first five minutes. out of nowhere, the steering became tight, as if it locked up. i could not turn the wheel left or right, the car almost instantly produced more heat, i felt the heat around my feet and it came through the vents. i looked at the dic panel and power steering was flashing. there was a smell as if the car was burning. with force, i was able to maneuver the car to a parking lot to sit. after reading through the user manual, i followed the suggestions from the manual, turned the wheel left and right hoping it would loosen and letting the car sit idle. after about two hours of sitting, my brother drove the car home with no problem. 10/2/13 i took the car, early morning, to be inspected by a local repair company. after running diagnostics on the car, i was told that once diagnostics began immediately power steering control circuit was diagnosed as an issue, the only issue from the diagnostic report, that had malfunctioned. i was also informed that could be the reason why one minute power steering malfunctioned and hours later it worked fine. i was also told that normally something like this is recalled by the automaker.

it has happened 3 times in the last 2 days. started up the car, and heard a couple beeps and on the information center it said "power steering" and could barely move the steering wheel. i have read that chevy had a recall on the cobalt which uses the same parts as the hhr for steering, why is this not recalled also. it makes no sense. i've also read of people having accidents in hhrs due to this issue. my daughter also was driving the car and the steering just went out on her at about 20 mph. this is very dangerous and seems pretty common on these vehicles.

key is stuck in the cylinder with the engine running. i can not turn off the engine, on a sunday night. no options, but to leave the car at the dealership with the car running and unlocked. cost was $499.50 to replace, plus loss of work the following monday. today's date is november 30, 2013, happened again with the car off, (about two years later). i found hundreds of reported incidents of this known defect on the internet and is not considered a reason for the manufacture to recall the defect, as it does not meet a safety issue as outlined by nhtsa.

i have been having issues with the power steering light coming on the dash as i am driving. it occurs randomly, but after reading several websites i am very concerned that this is a common problem that needs to be addressed and a recall issued. once i turn off the car, and turn it back on the steering wheel softens from its previous rigid state. i never know when it might occur and that is disturbing. through research i have found that this is the same system that is in the chevy cobalt and a recall was issued, so why not the hhr? it appears that a lot of consumers are experiencing this and we need corrective action!!!

on two occasions within the 3yr/36,000mile warranty, the esc and antilock temporarily went out with dashboard notification. no esc problems since, so it was not taken to dealership. in the meantime, we have a power steering problem that only occurred once during the warranty period at 35,000 miles. now, at 40,000, the problem has worsened so the power steering fails every trip. the car steers hard when this occurs, obviously. restarting the car resolves the problem for a few minutes.

power steering constantly goes off without warning. resets after turning car off but goes out after a few minutes. contacted chevrolet for information on recall since there are hundreds of complaints about it. they said there isn't any available. cobalt had recalls for the same issue and hhr have the same power steering motor. this is very dangerous and gm needs to do something about it before people get hurt.

i own a 2010 chevrolet hhr. while driving approximately 75 mph in the fast lane on i-75n. the power steering sensor light had illuminated and the power steering suddenly malfunctioned making the steering wheel stiff and almost impossible to move. i was somehow able to safely across 3 lanes to off ramp, luckily immediately to the right was able to glide into a parking lot. parked the vehicle and turned ignition off, checked all fluids under hood, read manual and advised to take keys out and restart. so i restarted the engine and the vehicle operated as normal, the warning signal was gone and wheel was moving. i reported this to gm immediately and have taken vehicle to dealership, where they do not seem to be acting as if this is urgent. they have stalled 2 days now without diagnosing, they will not provide me with a loaner vehicle and therefore i have no choice then to continue to drive the vehicle, knowing the severe threat it has to myself and others on the road. this car is a death trap. i have had numerous issues with this vehicle. i take it in for an issue atleast every other month. also since steering issue have had the "air bag service" light has come on several times. will have dealership check this malfunction out too. i think this means if my steering goes out and i crash, then i will not have an airbag to save me.. i call this car "christine"!! i am very upset that gm and the dealership do not handle this malfunction more seriously. death trap!

i attempted to open my 2010 chevy hhr's rear passenger door. the door would not open. all other doors are opening ok. the rear driver's side passenger door would not open under any circumstances. this an extremely dangerous situation. not being to exit a vehicle under emergency circumstances can cause serious injury or death. it is my understanding that although gm is aware of this problem they have done nothing about it. the gm dealer i brought the vehicle to told me it was my problem, not gm's. i have faced multiple issues with this vehicle; key stuck in ignition, power steering fail while driving, multiple sets of brakes burnt out, inside driver's door handle breaking off and now this new issue with the door. the nhtsa really needs to urgently address the multiple problems with this vehicle and hold gm responsible for their poor engineering and quality control, before someone else loses their life.

hello, i would like to report the intolerable odor coming out of the ac vent in my car, which is affecting my health (eg: throat infection) and well being. the car has ~32000 miles in it and out of warranty by ~10 months. i found a tsb (#99-01-39-004c) on this issue. the tsb advisory states gm to install an after blower kit if the customers complain. these after blower kits are installed in some of the cars and not others depending on the location of sales. i bought this as a new car at cincinnati during 2010 and moved to charlotte during 2011 time frame. during mar 2013, i started noticing the bad odor, but i convinced myself that this will go away during summer and didn't take it to a dealer at that time. later, however it got worse and i took it to the dealer during dec/2013. the dealer recommended dehumidifying the evaporator core and i went ahead did it. it cost me ~$110. it seemed to work fine for a week or so, but the bad odor returned. i was getting sick with throat infection(s). on further investigation, i came to know about this tsb that i mentioned above. but the dealer didn't disclose about this tsb to me in first place, when i took the car there during dec/2013. i complained about this to gm and mentioned that it is their responsibility to install the missing after blower kit. gm replied to me saying that they can offer a cost assistance program to install this missing kit and cover 1/2 the costs because my car is out of warranty. to me, this is a clear design and manufacturing issue. gm didn't advise me (during purchase of this car) if i move out of cincinnati area, i may need this after blower kit to avoid mold and mildew build up in the ac system. please advise as i don't want to pay for expensive fix that is not my fault to begin with.

i placed a complaint here in february regarding the power steering motor going out. i had this happen to my 2010 chevy hhr and the recall is only for the vehicles made in the us not in mexico like mine was. please have gm look into this. under the nhtsa campaign number: 14v153000, in the letter section 573.6 (c)(5) states exactly what happened to my vehicle. sounds like gm is not owning up to all the vehicles they intalled cheap defective parts into. thank you.

as i was driving down the offramp of the freeway the front of my car started to shake and rattle. a couple minutes later after turning a corner, only going 30mi/hr, the cars power steering then turned off. every time i turn my car on and take a trip the power steering goes off at least twice. which is about 5-6 times a day.

our 2010 hhr's power steering went out while my wife was in our neighborhood. she was able to get the car parked on the side of the road but the strength needed to steer the car was greater then she feels she could safely operate the vehicle. if you restart the car the power steering will work again. since that time the power steering will randomly go out at least every other day while driving at highway or in the neighborhood.

the power steering keeps shutting off? i will be driving when i will hear this brief chiming sound and my odometer readout on the dashboard is replaced with a flashing "power steering" message. suddenly the vehicle is a bear to steer? it almost takes a muscle man to drive the vehicle at this point. it used to occur only once in a while. now the power steering is constantly out. i'm taking this car in to the dealer now... the service rep stated that if my issue is a "power steering motor" replacement that it will cost me $325.00 including parts. however if the complete "steering column" needs replacement, the guy laughed and stated that i should consider taking a second out on my home, that this would be pricey. and that if both parts needed to be replaced...? well... let's not go there he said... just bring it in and we'll run a series of computer diagnostics on it. oh boy... my first chevrolet...

my vehicle is on gms recall list because of an ignition problem. i was driving down a small hill on friday may 2, 2014, when my car shut off. i had nothing on my ignition key ring when this happened and had just my key in the ignition when this happened. i called gm and let them know what had happened they offered to give me a rental car that they will pay for until my car is fixed . my concern is that these cars should not be on the road because they are a safety hazard to not only the person driving these cars but also to the people on the road with them, i know gm is doing all that it can to fix the problem and wonder why they are being allowed to be driven on the roads when they are unsafe. i do not feel comfortable driving my car because of the risk it poses not only to me but to others on the road and will be getting a rental . oh and by the way when my car shut off, it was all i could do to steer it around the corner because off course my power steering was gone making it difficult to steer.

while driving down the interstate at 70 mph,i had a warning light and the display read svc esc. shortly after, the power steering display came on in the vehicle. i then immediately lost control of vehicle. it took great force to steer the vehicle off of the highway to a safe location. i then used the onstar service, they ran a quick diagnostic - result came back that they were unable to connect to the power steering system - the power steering system had lost electrical connection or had failed completely - they were unable to let me know without having it diagnosed further at a local chevy dealership. the vehicle was then towed to the local chevy dealer. they ran a diagnostic and found that my entire steering column needed to be replaced. they also explained that other models of the hhr were recalled for the same issue that i experienced, however my model was considered "safe".

intermittent "service air bags". service light goes on and off sometimes it will change multiple times in just a 20 mile commute. sometimes the service light will not turn on/off for a month. no common factor found. my vin is not yet covered on the hhr recall list. intermittent "power steering" loss - service light turns on and off. it can be hot, cold, dry, raining, driving 30 miles per hour or driving 50 miles per hour. very difficult to control vehicle. my vin is not yet covered on the hhr recall list. a couple of times my car key got stuck in the ignition. once it took five minutes to turn the hhr off. this is covered on the current hhr recall list. there currently is no fix for the problem. it could be two months before it can be repaired.

driving straight ahead on dry asphalt street at about 28 mph. the brakes began applying themselves very hard over and over and over. made car buck and nearly stopped me dead in traffic. dashboard message center said "esc active". it was the electronic stability control activating itself for no reason at all. i fortunately know where the esc off switch is, pressed and held it in until "esc off" came up on the message center. this halted the rogue braking. if i had been on the freeway, a total loss of would seem likely.

while driving at any speed at all there would be a chime and a message on the dash then my power steering would be totally gone, you have about a 4 second warning when this happens. i took the vehicle and had it repaired, it was the power steering motor. i contacted chevrolet directly after having it repaired complaining that this very problem had been recalled in canada but not the us. i was told to keep the repair receipt (which i did) in case there was a later recall. so when the recall happened in the us my vehicle wasn't included. it was clearly a faulty power steering motor yet no recall on my vehicle. i believe there are more out there that gm isn't recalling. if mine done it then there are more out on the road that this has either happened to already or it will.

on 03/30/2014 the power steering light went on my hhr panel and the power steering went out. at that time i could power off the car and the power steering would work for one to two days. within a week of this, the power steering would go out each time the car was started and driven within 5 minutes or less. it occurs if you are driving at 5 mph to 65 mph and if the car is cold or hot. this is becoming more of a safety issue as it requires extra strength to maneuver the car since no power steering is available. at this time chevrolet has announced a recall on 03/31 for the 2010 hhr but nothing has shown up when i put my vin number on their website. i am concerned about not having power steering but we need the car for transportation. today is june 5 and this issue occurs every day and no recall notice has happened with my vin. the mileage was adjusted from the original complaint

greetings nhtsa, i am writing to document some things about our 2010 chevrolet hhr. yes, it was part of the recall, but i need for you to be inform of some things, that i pray can help someone else: 1. power issues: the power would act so crazy that we never knew when it was going to shut off. exp. this past winter, the blower motor would blow cold air, while it was freezing outside! or it would not work at all, then, the blower heater would come on, just by turning the ignition on. . and it would blow hot air. and it would not turn off, unless the key was out of the ignition. the dash would get very hot, showing a potential for a fire. apparently, each time a fuse had blown out. we would replace it and in three weeks it would go out again. something electrical must of been going on. there was also, power steering concerns. 2. we took it in to serra chevrolet in southfield, michigan to have the ignition switch replace. we were given a rental, and it took over three weeks for the part to arrive. we were hoping that the ignition switch was causing the problem and that it would go away, once replaced. 3. on june 4th, 2014-the parts came in.. 4. on thursday, june 5th, 2014, the new ignition switch was replaced. the next day, june 6th, 2014, the blower motor went crazy again, and the airbag warning light came on. ( with all of the issues with the car, the airbag light never came on until the new ignition switch was installed. 5. afraid of an airbag disaster today, june 9th, 2014, my husband took the car back to serra chevrolet in southfield, michigan. they are so backed up, with cars. they cannot even look at it until tomorrow. my husband was dropped off, no rental no loaner! and now we are without a car, thank you. and "be blessed" pastor deborah satterwhite c/o edwin satterwhite-consumers-2010 chevrolet hhr owner

this is an update to file# 10597005 you already have the information about our 2010 chevy hhr, electrical issues, and about things shutting down before the new ignition switch was installed. and i informed you that the air bag warning light came on after the new switch was in, making it very dangerous to drive. on the week of june 10th, 2014, i informed you that we were left with no car for a day and a half, because serra chevrolet in southfield, michigan was too backed up. like they have been since the recall. update, as of today, june 18th, 2014: 1. the airbag fuse was missing. the airbag light still comes on, periodically as well as the anti-theft light. 2. on june 14th, 2014, my husband edwin was stranded and had to be towed because of the new keys to the ignition switch, stopped working and the car would not start. once home, after being towed, our son, suggested trying the other key. and it worked. something is wrong with the brand new keys. we are here, wondering, when will the second key go out, stop working while driving etc.!!! 3. we need to take the car in. but we were told that because we just got a notice about the power steering, that it's best to wait until we bring that in for that. but..once again, the parts are not in!!!!! gm need to take this car back, or give us something else to drive until it can be fixed. we do not feel safe at all!!!!! thank you. pastor deborah satterwhite c/o edwin satterwhite-consumer

car would not start for days. had it jumped several times. finally started running again, than it appeared to have an exhaust leak. nope...direct fit converter... over 600$ plus being towed 2xs. another battery, aaa towing and jumping, already had egin switch replaced, now my kids and i have to worry about power steering! thought i loved this vech, but its cost us an arm and a leg just to fix problems, not to mention im still paying for it! chevy 2010 had 7miles on it when purchased, has approx 70 now, could of had more, if not for fixing and buying parts! never again.

this is one of repeated incidents where the electronic stability control (esc) activates while traveling straight on dry pavement at speeds between 15 and 30 mph. a chime sounds, a message appears on the display, the vehicle briefly loses steering and pulls to the right while brake is involuntarily activated. after turning the car off and restarting, the car continues normally. fortunately, this has not yet caused an accident. on this occasion, the right front hub was replaced. the dealer has variously attributed the problem to mismatched tires (replaced with all new), bad hubs (both replaced), bad speed sensors (replaced), bad alignment (fixed) and a wrongly calibrated steering position sensor (re-calibrated). the vehicle has been towed, repaired repeatedly, and the problem is back again. this needs to be escalated to a recall.

my vehicle is currently under 3 safety recalls with gm. when i contacted gm to inquire about a possible loaner vehicle until it can be repaired, i was told the dealerships were authorized to provide loaner vehicles. when i called the dealership they stated that they were only providing loaner vehicles for those whose cars were inoperable. when i contacted gm for clarification on this, they stated that loaner vehicles are available for those cars under safety recalls, of which my car is included, and sent me back to the dealership. the dealership still refuses to provide a loaner vehicle and gm is not assisting, just sending me back to the dealership. this car is under recalls in which there were serious accidents and deaths involved. there is no way i am driving this car. can you help with this situation?

no accident has occurred; i would like to know why it takes so long to remedy the recall(s) on my vehicle; the first notice was received dated april 2014 from gm regarding the ignition switch. the next recall letter was received on may 11, 2014 and i immediately called my local gm (cecil clarke chevrolet) in leesburg, florida to be put on the 'list' for the required parts/replacements. on june 17th, i called cecil clark again and was advised that although they were receiving 4 - 5 replacement kits a day, mine had not come in yet. now i have a safety recall for june reference the eps and that parts are not currently available. i have done what i need to do, i drive only when i have to now, and although i follow the safety rules reference removing all items from the ignition key, i do not feel safe while driving anymore. please can you find out why it takes so long to get parts for a very safety related issue. i thank you in advance.

i was backing up out of a parking stall the power steering suddenly stopped working , that is on recall along with the ignition switch we called may 20 2014 no parts for the ignition switch still no parts for that now another recall this time electrical power steering ..... sunday july6 2014 at 11:30 am power steering suddenly went out call gm road side assistance got a tow to h&h chevy omaha ne . then first thing monday morning went in and got a loaner car. the service guy stated that gm does't no how to fix the power steering problem nor do they have anyone to fix it and no part to fix it with so it could be a month or longer we have to drive a chevy cruze which for someone with a very bad back and arthritis in knees and back bad car not comfortable. i think gm needs to just scrap all these cars and buy them back from the ppl and pay off there loans. i am looking into buying a different brand of car. one the corporation will communicate better then gm is now the company of we wont say a word til you get hurt. dealerships telling owners to just drive your cars but becareful til they do get the part in

sudden lose of power steering with power steering light coming on and engine stopping. luckily we were exiting a shopping area and was on a downhill grade and was able to coast to the side without incident (except the irritated traffic behind me). we were able to restart the car with no difficulty but the power steering light immediately came on and indeed there was no power steering. went to a local auto parts place who said the fuse looked good, but we changed it anyway, hoping this would fix the problem, but no such luck. i live in the city and work in a metropolitan area, this is my only mode of transportation and at this point my biceps and shoulders are getting pretty sore. very difficult to pull in and out of my driveway. looking back, i see how this could have been disasterous. what if my 16 year old had been behind the wheel? hope it doesn't take long to get repaired.

having received several letters from gm regarding the recall of this vehicle, i contacted the local gm dealer only to be shown that the letter stated that i would be contacted again when the part(s) were available. the dealer told me to go away and wait for a follow-up letter in spite of the danger of driving the car in its current condition.

on sunday, march 31st, 2013, my vehicle was locked in the running position and it was impossible to get my key out of the ignition. the vehicle continued to run until i was able to contact a local car expert who was able to pull the fuel pump fuse to get the engine to stop running. the next day, this same person took the vehicle in to his shop and replaced the "ignition lock cylinder" per a "silent" gm recall. soon after this incident, i began hearing about a gm recall on the "ignition switch". i was then sent a letter from gm to that effect. the letter also stated that i could be reimbursed for work done if i had repairs made on my own. when i applied for a refund for the labor cost that i incurred, i was notified by the team chevy of valparaiso, in dealership and told that i would not be compensated for by expenses because the current recall was for the "ignition switch" and not the "lock cylinder". i tried to explain that the other part was also a part of a previous recall; however, the rep refused to acknowledge the issue with the "lock cylinder". after doing some online research, i have found that many people have also experienced this same "locking in the run position issue". for this reason, and the fact that gm is once again slow to acknowledge a dangerous defect in a vehicle with a history of dangerous defects, i am writing to file an official complaint. at this point, i do not feel safe in my vehicle. i currently have two recalls out on my car and have already replaced by power steering assist motor after it failed on a busy highway in the middle of a left hand turn. there are a series of major flaws with this vehicle and gm needs to take responsibility for the safety of its customers and make this right. i would also hope that the nhtsa can influence gm to expand their recall to cover all ignition related problems.

we've had both inside door handles crumble & break in our hands & the car company wanted almost $400.- to fix them (which i cannot afford). now i & my passenger have to roll the electric windows down, in order to get out of the car...danger... and no one cares!!! i read where others are having the same problems... what the heck??? this is not right!!!

tl* the contact owns a 2010 chevrolet hhr. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger side interior door handles fractured. the contact mentioned that the doors could only be opened by using the exterior handles. the dealer stated that the door handles needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified about the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

i was driving to an appointment, when my power steering flashed on the dash screen and my steering wheel went from fluid to stiff. i pulled over to the side of the road as soon as it happened and turned off the car. when i turned it back on, the steering was fluid again, but the air bag light had came on as well as the abs and traction. the steering wheel was fluid only for a few minuets, and then after making a few turns, i lost the steering once again. i have learned of a recall on the hhr's power steering and starter. i will go to the dealer and ask them what they can do. i am filing this so it is noted in the records of the happenings.

was driving down highway and suddenly the power assist steering quit working and could not steer vehicle. sometime power assist works and sometimes it doesn't.. at times it locks up. had to have a mechanic get vehicle to chevrolet garage because i was not strong enough to steer it.
