ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

while sitting stopped at a traffic light yesterday, my brand new equinox just turned off. a co-worker with the same car (different model year) mentioned this happened to her two weeks prior to it happening to me. when i went online to research the issue, i was alarmed after locating multiple forums where equinox owners were having the same problem and looking for answers. the car has been shutting off without any warning, including while people are driving on the highway. this obviously is not an isolated issue as it is happening to people with various model years, and it could pose a serious problem on the highway.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

after driving the 2013 equinox off the dealer lot with 5 miles on the speedometer, the radio screen began to scramble. a few days later, the backup screen did not work, and goes blank, the radio screen begins to flicker, scrambles, and blanks out. contacted the dealer and that friday the dealer checked it and ordered the part. on april 19, at the dealer we were told they ordered the wrong part, no explanation no communication. on may 10 returned to dealer and they replaced the radio screen. on the way home the radio screen flickered. the following day the backup camera did not work. contacted the general manager on may 11 and was told they would get back with us the following monday. we called may 16th and the gm gave a lame excuse, on may 17 we are returning to the dealer to get the problem resolved. we live 70 miles from the dealer. a $28k purchase and no one can figure it out nor own up to the fact that they have lousy service and communication skills. signed disappointed in gm products!

the extreme slope of the windshield and extensive dashboard surface top, combined with my sloped driveway produces a severe glare that reduces visibility to the point where i am forced to inch into my garage. the grey dashboard becomes the dominate visible element, reflected onto the windshield in a manner similar to a heads up display. daylight is the most critical timeframe. adding a black carpet dashboard cover reduced but did not eliminate the problem. i would expect taller drivers would have an even greater problem. driving in normal lighting conditions does not appear to be an issue, however the transition into a low level lighted area is a real safety concern. the vehicle has automatic headlights, turning them on or off did not help.

2013 equinox lt was struck on passenger side by a 2012 hyundai sonata while doing under 10 mph. the speed limit was 35 mph for the sonata. the force of the impact caused the equinox to roll over onto its side and only the side airbags to deploy. equinox received damage to all areas of the vehicle except passenger side fender and front end.

my wife was driving my 2013 chevy equinox back to pennsylvania and she had a blow out on interstate 80 in new jersey. i had to pay $165.00 to have my truck towed off the high way. she put the donut on and continued driving to pennsylvania. she got the tire replaced another $205.00. the guy at the tire place gave her the tire back and suggested we file a complaint because he didn't understand how it happened. the side wall had a big hole in it.

the lights in the interior of my car go out intermittently. i have been driving down the highway going 70mph and without warning the car just died on me, i had to have someone push me off the highway because the car would not start. i waited about 10 mins and it started up again. the collision senor goes off when there is nothing around the car and boggs down the car while driving. i have taken it to 2 different shops and they can not get the problem to duplicate. they have had my car since before thanksgiving and gave it back to me the week of christimas. i drove it and had no problems until that friday on my way home from work crossing over a busy intersection the collision alert started ringing and the senor is off and the car died in the middle of the road. i was able to get it started right away and get out of the intersection. i took it back to the shop and they still can't get the problem resolved. i say the gm obviously has electrical issues with their cars, because reading others complaints about the same issues. this is a major safety issue!

i was driving north behind a pickup truck ,he was stopped at a traffic light. i applied my brakes and it appeared as if it made me go faster instead of stopping.. i could not stop and i ran into the rear of the pickup truck. my equinox was totaled. my seat belt activated and held me in place and the air bag activated. my onstar came to my assistance and advised me to stay in place till help arrived and turn on the ignition and put on the emergency light switch .i didn't remember ever turning the ignition switch off .could this vehicle be another one in the vehicles in the class that has had been identified with the ignition switch problem that causes accidents ? i suffered a contusion of the upper chest area. the other driver went to his doctor for check up .

on several occasions the forward collision avoidance system has engaged for no explicable reason. when this occurs the brakes are automatically applied, not jammed on, but it does slow the vehicle down and the red light starts flashing and the warning sensor goes off, etc it can be rather unnerving. the rear view mirrors which face downward when backing to be used in conjunction with the rear view camera don't always return to previous preset position.

driving on 5 lane highway at 60mph car shut off for no reason and went dead. cars and trucks on both side of me and had to try. and get on left shoulder which i did without getting hit. i turned off ignition and tried to restart the car and it restarted ok and i continued on . this same problem has happened twice since i purchased vehicle. returned to dealer both times and they checked it and said nothing wrong. i am afraid it could happen again with my children or grandchildren in car and maybe wouldn't be so lucky to get off road without being hit. where do i go from here? thank you

purchased 2013 chevy equinox ltz on jan 2013. a month later a moldy/rubbery smell coming from the ac vents. it was getting worst so i took it to the dealer for check up. they cleaned and desinfected ac system.installed a blower compressor to dry water that sits from ac.on...hum... they told me since i live in the state of texas, i will have this problem...hum... just be aware this vehicle will not survive on a tropic climate because of the mold .... lame excused from dealer. two years later still having same problem...take it to the dealer and they clean and desinfect air vents and keeps happening. april 2014 taking it back for that and other issues that i will address here. thank you. very dissapointed with gm building defective cars and not admitting it. my first and my last american car.

while approaching a traffic signal the engine went to a reduced power mode (idle)....i had no control of the car...could not move....could not even move to side of road...blocking traffic....called onstar chev emerg road assist...while making arrangement for tow he asked for mileage...i had to turn off the engine to get rid of the screen which said "reduced engne power"....gavehim the mileage...when restarting the engine the engine now idled normal and when pu in drive , i could now move the car....canceled the service...took the car to the dealer next am...they diagnosed the trouble to be a "binding throttle body" it was replaced...i am apprehensive driving the car , especially on i95 with trucks and cars travelling 70/80 mph i could get killed.......

i have two 2013 chevrolet equinox lt and both have the same problem with the radio and center a/c console/heater/defroster. if a usb device is plugged into the receptacle in the center console at times the radio and console stop working. this affects the safety of the vehicle by disabling the defroster control allowing the windows to ice up (especially in michigan). i have asked the dealer as to why it happens and they had no answer. the system has always rebooted fine after shutting the vehicle off for 5-10 minutes. again this has only happened when a usb device is plugged in. it is my assumption that there is a problem with the booting of the center console therefore not allowing the devices to work. i have searched the internet and there are many complaints for the same item.

i pulled into my driveway and put the car in park. i noticed a small puff of white smoke from the hood in one specific place. prior to this, there was not a check engine light, there was not a messgae warning of reduced engine power. the car was inspected at a certified gm dealership on 4/16/2014. nothing was noted on the diagnostic form to fix or replace. it was completed at the dearlership that we purchased the car at. i quickly got out of my car and begin to get my three year old out of his carseat. i looked at the hood and there was so much black smoke pouring out of the hood i could not see our shed or anything in front of me. i yelled to the other two children (both 6), to get out of their carseats and run into the woods. i unbuckled one child and the other child slipped out of her buckle. they ran to a safe spot. i ran into the house called 911 and got our fire extinguisher. came outsude and there was black smoke filling the sky and pouring out of the hood in numerous places. i used the fire extinguisher which did not help. i got the garden hose and tried to use that, but was getting too dangerous. so i waited for the fire department to arrive. at this time there was flames coming from the bottom and top of the car and the car was making loud cracking and exploding noises. there was so much smoke i could not see the house which was close by. the windows exploded and the passanger airbag went off. the three children countinued to be 500 feet into the woods and i frantically was running around (37 week pregnant).the shed caught on fire. the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. the two front tires were completly melted and ruined our driveway.

i pulled into my driveway and put the car in park. i noticed a small puff of white smoke from the hood in one specific place. prior to this, there was not a check engine light, there was not a messgae warning of reduced engine power. the car was inspected at a certified gm dealership on 4/16/2014. nothing was noted on the diagnostic form to fix or replace. it was completed at the dearlership that we purchased the car at. i quickly got out of my car and begin to get my three year old out of his carseat. i looked at the hood and there was so much black smoke pouring out of the hood i could not see our shed or anything in front of me. i yelled to the other two children (both 6), to get out of their carseats and run into the woods. i unbuckled one child and the other child slipped out of her buckle. they ran to a safe spot. i ran into the house called 911 and got our fire extinguisher. came outsude and there was black smoke filling the sky and pouring out of the hood in numerous places. i used the fire extinguisher which did not help. i got the garden hose and tried to use that, but was getting too dangerous. so i waited for the fire department to arrive. at this time there was flames coming from the bottom and top of the car and the car was making loud cracking and exploding noises. there was so much smoke i could not see the house which was close by. the windows exploded and the passanger airbag went off. the three children countinued to be 500 feet into the woods and i frantically was running around (37 week pregnant).the shed caught on fire. the fire department arrived and extinguished the fire. the two front tires were completly melted and ruined our driveway.

STEERING

while driving on the road at 40 mph and making a quick turn, my steering wheel locked and froze for a minute in a 3 way intersection. steering wheel will not turn and after a minute it reseted again. then continuing driving pressing the brakes with lock the steering wheel and felt funny. took it immediately to the dealer to address situation. pretty scary situation here and a safety concern for sure. with only 25k miles with 3 mayor issues posted here, i'm getting rid of this vehicle and take a loss....very very disappointed with gm but before that i will write a big letter to gm ceo about the safety of this vehicle.

ENGINE

i was driving on i-71n around 3:30 on my way home during the speed limit of 65 when all of a sudden the display show an engine light and a message saying reducing power mode and the speed drop to 20 even though i hand my foot on the gas all the way to the floor. luckily i had just move lane from in front of a 18 wheeler and was able to pull over still in danger because the lane i moved to still had traffic coming. i turn the car off since it would not go and sit for about 5 minutes. i started it up and was able to make it to the dealer service. they found that following code p2101, p2119. they perform diagnostic test all wiring to throttle position sensor test ok replace throttle body assembly and recheck faults, passed. what they told me is that the sensor did not know i was giving the engine gas so it reduce the engine speed. this is scary to know it could happen and i could have been injured or even kill. i was lucky.

i was driving on a 2 lane road with heavy woods on each side and a deer ran out of the woods in front of me. i hit the deer with the front of my equinox. i immediately smelled the fumes from the air bag but did not see where the air bad deployed. onstar came on and asked if i was ok, that they were advised my air bag had deployed. the in dash sensor in my car also alerted that the air bag had been deployed. my steering wheel appeared normal, but a small gap around the air bag cover. it appears that my air bag had attempted to deploy but the bag itself did not inflate. the damage was filled on insurance and gm was notified of the incident due to the fact that my air bag did not function correctly. the vehicle has been taken to the dealership where it was purchased to have the air bag & sensors replaced. gm did open a claim with my complaint and said that it would be 20 to 30 days for an investigation to be done.

1st occurrence - 7-22-14 -traveling on the 8 west at approximately 65 mph the "collision avoidance" system activated, the red light on the dash activated and it deactivated the cruise control, there was not a car within 200 yards. 2nd occurrence - 7-25-14 - traveling east bound on aero dr. at a speed of 40 mph, with no cars within 100 yards, the collision avoidance system activated, the red light on the dash came on and it felt as though the brakes were activated. 3rd occurrence - 7-28-14 - going to work at 6:00 am traveling north bound on mission village dr. at approximately 35 mph, collision avoidance activated, red light on the dash & braking, no cars were in sight at that time.

at 7pm est, as i was coming up to make a right turn i noticed the sound of my radio shut off, in a split second i looked at the digital display and all the lights were off, then as i was turning the power steering suddenly was off and i had a hard time turning the wheel to the right, the engine completely had shut down, i then was pulling off to the right side into an empty space for safety when my vehicle started on its own without any attempt to turn the key in the ignition. i am absolutely terrified. this is a brand new 4/2013 lease with only approximately 7600 or so miles noted. i am deeply concerned for not only my safety but the safety of the general public.

i was traveling in moderate traffic a safe distant behind other traffic when the red light for collison avoidence on the dash came on and the vehicle automatically braked. this has happened several times since when there was no traffic in front or along side of my vehicle. i advised my dealer service technician about the incidents, but received no explanation of why it was occurring. these 3 or 4 incidents have occurred during the period of driving the vehicle 12,000 miles.
