WHEN ON A STRAIGHT ROAD AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH MINOR CORRECTIONS TO THE STEERING IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN POSITION IN THE LANE. THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MAKE THESE MINOR CORRECTIONS, RESULTING IN ADDITIONAL STRENGTH BEING USED IN ORDER TO MOVE THE WHEEL. THE WHEEL ALWAYS MOVES WITH THIS ADDITIONAL PRESSURE, BUT SOMETIMES IT RESULTS IN AN OVERCORRECTION CAUSING THE DRIVER TO HAVE TO CORRECT IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. I CALLED THE AGENCY AND THEY KEPT MY CAR FOR A WEEK. THEY KEPT SAYING THAT THEY HAD TROUBLE KNOWING WHAT EXACTLY WAS GOING ON WITH MY CAR. AT THE END THEY JUST SAY THAT IT WAS DUE TO AN UPDATE. BUT , UNTIL NOW I STILL HEAR THE NOISE AS IF SOMETHING ABOUT TO BRAKE. AFTER READING THE RECALL I AM CONCERN FOR MY SAFETY. FOUND OUT IN NOVEMBER THERE WAS AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THE HALF SHAFT. (ERROR NUMBER ONE: IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NHTSA THE CAR SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SOLD TO US). REPAIR WORK DONE IN NOVEMBER. IN MARCH A RECALL ON THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED. GREY DID NOT CALL US, WE CALLED THEM. CAR INSPECTED 9 APRIL 2014, WE WERE INFORMED WE WOULD IN FACT NEED THE HALF SHAFT REPLACED AGAIN. THEY SAID OUR CAR WAS COMPLETELY SAFE TO DRIVE AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN. (ERROR NUMBER TWO: PER NHTSA WE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE LOT WITH THE CAR, WE SHOULD'VE BEEN GIVEN A RENTAL IMMEDIATELY). 5 MAY 2014, THE HALF SHAFT BROKE AS I WAS DRIVING OUR SON TO SCHOOL AND SENT US BACKWARDS DOWN A HILL. I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS PURCHASING CARS FROM GREY, AS THEY DO NOT APPEAR TO ABIDE BY NHTSA GUIDELINES. THE CAR HAS SINCE BEEN REPAIRED, BY ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. MEANWHILE, I HAVE 3 VOICEMAILS AND AN EMAIL FROM VARIOUS GREY EMPLOYEES OPENLY SAYING THE CAR SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SOLD TO US AND WE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE LOT AFTER THE 2ND INSPECTION, BUT BASICALLY "OH WELL." THIS CAVALIER ATTITUDE FRIGHTENS ME QUITE FRANKLY. ALSO, UPON LOOKING AT THE INITIAL WORK ORDER FOR THE HALF SHAFT REPAIR THAT WAS DONE IN NOVEMBER, IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THEY DATED IT FOR THE DATE OF PURCHASE, WHICH WOULD'VE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE IT WAS A SUNDAY AND THEY HAD NO SERVICE EMPLOYEES PRESENT. SHORTLY AFTER BUYING THIS VEHICLE I DISCOVERED THERE AS A PROBLEM WITH THE EXCESSIVE TORQUE AND THE BRAKING SYSTEM AND HAIR TRIGGER BRAKE RELEASE. WHEN RELEASING THE BRAKE THIS CAR WOULD LEAP FORWARD IN AN UNSAFE MANNER. THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHEN RELEASING THE BRAKE SLIGHTLY. RELEASING THE BRAKE A QUARTER OF AN INCH OR LESS WAS SUFFICIENT. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT MY FOOT SLIPPING OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE HIGH RPM'S AND TORQUE IS NOT A GOOD MATCH WITH THIS PARTICULAR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. I AM SURE A STANDARD TRANSMISSION WOULD BE A BETTER MATCH. AFTER MY CAR JUMPED OUT INTO A MAJOR STREET AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP EXAMINED MY CAR AND CAME UP WITH THE BELLOWING RESULTS: BRAKES FEEL NORMAL FOR VEHICLE. 4 WHEEL DISC AND HAS ELECTRIC VACUUM PUMP. NO REPAIRS REQUIRED AT THIS TIME. IDLE NORMAL FOR PRESENT TIME, ECM WILL RISE IDLE AT CERTAIN TIME LIKE COLD START COMPENSATE FOR BATTERY DRAW OF GLOW PLUGS?. TODAY I CHECKED WITH GM CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY STATED THE PARTS ARE BEING MANUFACTURED AND THEY HAVE NO DATE INFORMATION. ON STAR CAME ON AND STATED THAT THE OCCUPANTS WERE JUST IN A VERY SERVE ACCIDENT AND THAT EMERGENCY SERVICES WERE ON THE WAY. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AT ALL. GMC SENT OUT AN INSPECTOR AND HE WAS SURPRISED. A REPORT WAS PREPARED AND ULTIMATELY IT WAS STATED THAT THE CAR WAS EXPERIENCING A ROLL OVER EVENT. HOWEVER, THE DATA IN THE REPORT DOES NOT SUPPORT GMCS CONTENTION. ONE MAJOR ERROR DISCOVERED ON THE REPORT WAS THAT THE SENSOR SAID IT WAS A SMALL ADULT SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THAT ADULT WEIGHED 265 POUNDS OR MORE AT THAT TIME. NEXT ONE OF THE DATA RECORDS SAYS THE EVENT TOOK PLACE ON 7/5/2013. ONE OF THE EVENT RECORDERS STATES THE CAR WAS ROLLING IN A CLOCKWISE FLASHING BUT ANOTHER ONE SHOWS THE CAR WAS ROLLING HEAD TO TOE. FINALLY, THE GRAPHICAL DATA SHOWS NO ROLLOVER IN ONE SENSOR AND A COUNTERCLOCKWISE ROTATION IN THE OTHER. GMC STATED THAT THEY WOULD FIX THE CAR FOR FREE AND OFFERED TO PAY MEDICAL FEES AND BILLS. THE PASSENGER SUFFERED A BROKEN COLLAR BONE, A RUPTURED EAR DRUM AND BLOOD PRESSURE ON SITE OF 220/140. THE VEHICLE SENSOR STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS HIT ON THE SIDE (BROADSIDED). THE DATA RECORDER STATES THAT BOTH AIRBAGS WENT OFF AT THE SAME TIME, BUT THERE WAS A THREE SECOND DELAY BETWEEN THE PASSENGER AIRBAG, THEN THE DRIVER AIRBAG. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG INDICATOR STATUS WAS SET TO THE OFF POSITION, THUS NO PASSENGER AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED PER MANUFACTURER SPECS. NO REAR CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. WE WERE ADVISED OF AN AIR BAG MALFUNCTION AND TO CONTACT OUR DEALER ASAP. WE CALLED THE DEALER (PADDOCK CHEVROLET) IMMEDIATELY AND WERE ADVISED THAT THEY HAD RECEIVED NO INSTRUCTIONS FROM GM. THEY WOULD CALL BACK IN TWO DAYS, WHICH THEY DID. THEY ADVISED THAT STILL HAD NO INSTRUCTIONS FROM GM. IT HAS NOW BEEN OVER A WEEK AND HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THE DEALER . I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT IT IS TAKING SO LONG TO GIVE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE DEALER. IN MARCH GM HAD REALIZED THEY HAD A PROBLEM . IN ADDITION THE RECALL ADVISED US TO CONTACT THE DEALER ASAP DUE TO THE INCREASED RISK OF INJURY.I GUESS THIS POINTS OUT TO US THAT GM DOES NOT REALLY CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER, SINCE THEIR FIASCO WITH THE IGINITION KEY. I WILL NEVER BUY A GM AUTO AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF CONCERN FOR SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE CARS. while driving at hwy speeds the steering will appear to stick or not respond. it feels as if there is no response from the minor input from the steering wheel. then you put a little more input in the wheel and the car appears to catch up to the command giving it minor swerving feeling. it seems to be quite common with cruzes. i have found over 100 complaints on one forum about the same issue. something needs to be done about the possible unsafe condition.

when driving in a straight line at highway speed, the vehicle will not make small steering corrections. when a slight correction is attempted, a "notch" or "hitch" is felt in the steering with increased resistance in the wheel, upon overcoming the "notch" in the steering, the vehicle overcorrects and must be brought back. while the behavior occurs in a variety of temperatures and climate conditions, it seems only to occur once the vehicle has reached operating temperature and remained there for 30-60 minutes or more. the behavior also does not occur in low-speed driving or routes, such as curves, that require constant steering input, but only when small corrections are needed during straight-line highway driving. while the issue poses only a minor risk on dry, open road, it could cause serious damage or injury in tight traffic or poor road conditions such as snow or ice.

while driving my newly leased 2014 chevy cruze with the heat on to school i became dizzy, nausea and very disoriented. i pulled over and opened the windows took my hat and scarf off, within a few minutes i began to feel normal again. i preceded to start driving again only to have the same thing happen again. i called my mother to make her aware of what was happening when i drove my new car. she advised me to leave the windows open and to keep the heat off until we could get this car in for service. we brought the car in for service on january 13th, 2014 advising them that within 15 mins of driving the car we would become sick with a headache and very nausea and dizzy. the service men laughed at us. we told them that maybe its carbon monoxide getting into the car. we left the car at the service center . the very next day i received a call from the dealership advising me that yes we were right that it was carbon monoxide getting into the car. they had a service man drive the vehicle who concluded that yes it was carbon monoxide poisoning. they were going to get in touch with gm and advise us as to what they were going to do!!

at highway speed while going straight for at least a few seconds, the steering wheel will lock up at center position. when attempting to make minor lane corrections, the steering wheel sticks and upon more input force suddenly jerks when power assist returns. this could lead to an accident especially in poor road conditions.

the following issue only occurs once the vehicle has been driven for 15+ miles and is "warmed up". when on a straight road at highway speeds there is an issue with minor corrections to the steering in order to maintain position in the lane. the steering wheel sticks when attempting to make these minor corrections, resulting in additional strength being used in order to move the wheel. the wheel always moves with this additional pressure, but sometimes it results in an overcorrection causing the driver to have to correct in the other direction. i have researched this issue and found hundreds of different cruze owners complaining about the same problem on various websites, with varying degrees of dealership assistance in attempting to fix this problem. i have an appointment to bring my vehicle into the dealer on february 22nd, but the service representative i spoke with stated there were no technical bulletins or other guidance that he could find regarding this problem. if, as a fairly quick internet search indicates, that there are hundreds, if not perhaps thousands of cruze drivers with a similar problem, and keeping in mind that steering is probably the second most important auto system superseded only by braking, then perhaps this problem deserves formal review by the nhtsa.

the brake pedal will push (in a panic stop) to below the accelerator allowing the car to continue accelerating when the brake pedal is pushed to stop vehicle. this has occurred at least two times in 3 months. i have never had a car with brake pedal travel to go to and below the level of the accelerator pedal. a wide shoe will allow the above mentioned problem. i have had the dealer (westside chevrolet, katy tx) look at the problem. the answer i get that there is no adjustment to the brakes. i feel this is a safety problem and the brake pads should be replaced in order to prevent an accident.

the car was turned off for approximately 45 minutes. the door was opened and a buzzing noise was coming from the engine area. it lasted about 5 minutes. the same thing happened 5 more times. at that point, we had an appointment to be at. the issue has been handed over to the gm engineers. at this point, nobody knows what the problem is, we believe it could be a safety hazard. the only time we have driven the vehicle since that episode, was to take it over to the dealership.

i have 5500 miles on my 2014 cruze diesel and recently i have noticed a disturbing problem with the steering at highway speeds. there seems to be a "dead" spot in the center of the steering range. it is particularly noticeable when i make a lane change at 65 - 70 mph in traffic. the steering is not tight and precise... it sort of feels sloppy like a high mileage car that has some free play in the steering wheel. it is scary. i have heard that the chevy cruze had problems like this in 2012 and earlier. i assumed that they had corrected the problem. i guess they haven't.

my car (chevy cruze 2014 model) was recalled 6 weeks after i purchased it. it has been sitting on the dealership lot waiting on a replacement part, which is not available now and no time-frame for a replacement is known by gm or the dealership. and i am without my vehicle for 3 weeks. and i want my vehicle repaired, but no parts are available to do this...i'm paying for a car i cannot drive and if i do it is unsafe due to the defect. i am very very angry at gm for not having defect-free parts or knowing when i will get my car back.

purchased 2014 chevy cruze from mark newcomer at grey chevrolet on 27 october 2013. found out in november there was an active recall on the half shaft. 5 may 2014, the half shaft broke as i was driving our son to school and sent us backwards down a hill. i fear for the safety of others purchasing cars from grey, as they do not appear to abide by nhtsa guidelines. the car has since been repaired, by another dealership. meanwhile, i have 3 voicemails and an email from various grey employees openly saying the car shouldn't have been sold to us and we shouldn't have been allowed to leave the lot after the 2nd inspection, but basically "oh well." this cavalier attitude frightens me quite frankly. also, upon looking at the initial work order for the half shaft repair that was done in november, it appears as though they dated it for the date of purchase, which would've been impossible because it was a sunday and they had no service employees present.

i bought my cruze at the end of feb 2014, new. on april 11, 2014, i took it in for a routine maintence task.i was told that they had to check for a defective right axle. i was told it was defective and given a loaner car. they still have my car and can not tell me when it might be fixed because there are no parts available! so, for all most 6 weeks, i am now making a car payment on a car that i can not drive! so is chevrolet still making the cruze and if so why don't they have axles to replace the defective ones!! i am tired of not getting an answer. i also never got a letter from chevrolet that i had a defective car! what would have happened if i had never taken it in for maintance?! i think the car should be replaced!

at the end of december 2013 i purchased a 2014 chevy cruze turbo diesel. shortly after buying this vehicle i discovered there as a problem with the excessive torque and the braking system and hair trigger brake release. when releasing the brake this car would leap forward in an unsafe manner. this would happen when releasing the brake slightly. releasing the brake a quarter of an inch or less was sufficient. i am not talking about my foot slipping off the brake pedal. the high rpm's and torque is not a good match with this particular automatic transmission. i am sure a standard transmission would be a better match. after my car jumped out into a major street and almost caused an accident i took my vehicle to my local dealership. the dealership examined my car and came up with the bellowing results: brakes feel normal for vehicle. 4 wheel disc and has electric vacuum pump. no repairs required at this time. idle normal for present time, ecm will rise idle at certain time like cold start compensate for battery draw of glow plugs?. by the way the above incident occurred when the car was normal operating temperature. as a result i immediately traded this vehicle (1500 miles were on the odometer) for a different brand. it would be nice if your engineers could look into this matter to avoid future incidents with other chevy cruz owners. i am very concerned over the safety of this vehicle. thanks

this vehicle is subject to a recall. in march i filed a claim with gm customer care, in early april the vehicle was examined by the dealer and it was determined that the vehicle does have a defective front axle. i was told the parts are on order but the dealers have no idea when they will receive them. according to my dealer, christensen chevy of highland indiana, they have over 300 axles on order. today i checked with gm customer care and they stated the parts are being manufactured and they have no date information. in the meantime, we are driving a vehicle with a defective front axle which could break at any time. i was told it is not a problem since the car will slow to a stop. this would be very dangerous since i travel on the highway regularly. what can be done to expedite repair?

the car was coasting on a level road. just before the driver applied the brake, the interior lights started flashing and the steering wheel locked. the brake pedal went all the way to the floor but the car did not stop. then the front passenger airbag went off and then the drivers side airbag went off. no other cars were around. on star came on and stated that the occupants were just in a very serve accident and that emergency services were on the way. there was no damage to the vehicle at all. gmc sent out an inspector and he was surprised. a report was prepared and ultimately it was stated that the car was experiencing a roll over event. however, the data in the report does not support gmcs contention. one major error discovered on the report was that the sensor said it was a small adult sitting in the passenger seat. that adult weighed 265 pounds or more at that time. next one of the data records says the event took place on 7/5/2013. one of the event recorders states the car was rolling in a clockwise flashing but another one shows the car was rolling head to toe. finally, the graphical data shows no rollover in one sensor and a counterclockwise rotation in the other. gmc stated that they would fix the car for free and offered to pay medical fees and bills. the passenger suffered a broken collar bone, a ruptured ear drum and blood pressure on site of 220/140. the vehicle sensor stated that the vehicle was hit on the side (broadsided). the data recorder states that both airbags went off at the same time, but there was a three second delay between the passenger airbag, then the driver airbag. the passenger airbag indicator status was set to the off position, thus no passenger airbag should have deployed per manufacturer specs. no rear curtain airbags deployed. the report shows the airbag deployed outside the standards set for airbag deployment.

after purchasing the 2014 cruze on july 29, 2014, i drove it to my residence which was for 6 miles and parked in my driveway. i placed the shift level in the park position and set the emergency brake. my grand daughter, age 16, asked if she could test drive the car. after entering the vehicle, she released the emergency brake and attempted to start it. the car would not start and unknown to her while attempting to start, the vehicle slowly went backwards into the street. the shift lever in the vehicle was stuck in park and would not move and it would not start. i called on star and asked them to run a test on the car to see what was wrong with it. the lady came back with no known problems from their test. i asked and she called a tow truck to return the vehicle to the dealer. the cruze was repaired the next day. the problem was identified with a defective shift cable. the casing around the shift cable at the transmission cracked causing cable not to release leaving transmission in free mode. i was upset and angry with the dealership and gm because the vehicle broke down in the first 6 miles. i then checked for recalls on the vehicle and found gm recall number 14048 and nhtsa recall 14v092, which identified my defect exactly, but did not include my vin in the recall order. i called gm and expressed my concerns they assigned a case number and a very nice lady called and asked what would make me happy. my main concern was the safety of my family and other people who have bought the cruze with a defective shift lever cable. once a part is identified as defective it should no longer be used and it should be replaced on all manufactured vehicles. i was offered a replacement vehicle by the dealership and gm but i declined the offer.

while driving in straight line on highway the steering locked or hit a dead spot while trying to make a minor correction to stay within my lane. i felt a slight resistance though the wheel to my steering correction and then the resistance wall would break and the car would rapidly jerked to the direction of the input. felt almost like a notch in a ratchet. this problem would replicate the opposite direction to correct for the initial over steer input caused from previous dead spot. car would wonder in lane chasing steering inputs and distracting the driver due to full attention needing to be used to steer the car with out drifting. problem made me feel unsafe and i had no steering feel with the car. makes driving in windy conditions difficult and scary. i also experienced this identical problem on a rental cruze.

i found a white metallic gunk on driveway. i went to investigate for leakage, after dealer had one week ahead appointment available. i found rust on the welds of the muffler, rust on the hanger rods for the muffler, rust on nuts and bolts throughout the under carriage, rust on metal parts of the drive shaft, rust on the back tire trims, rust on the engine block, rust on the suspension, rust on the shocks, and the list goes on, on the many more parts of the under carriage. not just rust but corrosive rusting, that just didn't start over the last three weeks. dealer had to fail to put car up on rack upon receiving from chevrolet, and failed before handing it. this type of rusting happens only after maybe three years or more at least according to people i've shown the photos to, who know cars. dealership has a gm expert coming in to expect the car. feel very unsafe driving this car.

i parallel parked my car on a hillside street with the front wheels angled to touch the concrete curb per the city's hillside parking rules. i removed the key and locked the doors. when i returned to drive home after the car was safely parked for about 1 hour ( time was about 6:30 pm--still daylight) i could not turn the ignition key to unlock the electric steering lock. none of the electrical accessories worked because the steering wheel was locked. i couldn't open the electric windows, so i was sweating with all the windows closed. i was able to call onstar with my cell phone for help and they confirmed that my battery was fully charged and they had me try my other ignition key and to repeatedly turn/rock the steering wheel forcefully to unlock it with the key in the ignition. after nothing worked, the onstar service person said he would call a tow truck for service. after we hung up, and i was waiting, i tried the ignition key again, and the key turned and unlocked the electric steering lock. i could start the car to drive again.i called onstar back to cancel the tow service call. i took the car to my chevrolet dealer 3 days later for a routine maintenance appointment i had made 3 weeks before. nothing they could do, except advise me not to angle the front wheel when i parked & locked the car. this does not seem like a safe way to design an steering ignition lock. it took me over 45 minutes to finally unlock the steering wheel & start the car.
