The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have opened a preliminary investigation into the safety of the seat belts in certain 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan sport utility vehicles. The announcement came after the driver's seat webbing completely separated during standard safety testing in December. According to a Volkswagen spokesperson, the company will cooperate with the investigation to identify the cause of the different results between NHTSA's and Volkswagens' testing.
