Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid Fuel Leak

October 29, 2026 3 min read

If you drive a newer Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid, there is an important service campaign you should know about. Toyota has announced an official safety action regarding certain 2024–2027 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid vehicles due to a potential issue with the fuel delivery system.

Here is everything you need to know about the defect, the risks involved, and what steps you can take to protect your vehicle and your rights.

What is the Defect?

The issue involves a specific connection point in the fuel delivery system. Affected vehicles feature a resin fuel tube attached to the fuel tank that links to a main metal fuel tube, feeding gasoline from the tank up to the engine.

According to safety reports filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V-673), the retaining clip on this connector can lift, causing the resin and metal fuel tubes to disconnect. If this happens, gasoline may continue to leak until the hybrid system's engine completely shuts off.

The Safety Risk

Any fuel leak carries inherent dangers, but a leak occurring near an ignition source significantly increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

Toyota notes that the exact cause and the specific circumstances that trigger this disconnection are still under investigation. Because the unique combination of components used in these models is exclusive to this production line, other Toyota vehicles are not equipped with the same setup. Furthermore, Toyota has stated that the percentage of vehicles actually containing the defect remains unknown at this time.

Affected Vehicles and Manufacturer Action

  • Impacted Models: Certain 2024–2027 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid vehicles (Note: Not every vehicle manufactured within this date range was sold in the U.S.).
  • Total Potential Units Affected: Approximately 105,794 vehicles.
  • Toyota Campaign Numbers: 26TB23 and 26TA23.

What Toyota is Doing to Fix It

Toyota dealerships will inspect the vulnerable fuel tube connection and install a supplemental clamp to secure it properly. If necessary, technicians will replace the resin fuel tube entirely before installing the supplemental clamp.

Owner notification letters are scheduled to begin mailing out on November 29, 2026.

What This Means for Vehicle Owners & Lemon Law Rights

Dealing with a potential fire hazard on a relatively new vehicle is frustrating, especially when it involves a core powertrain and fuel system component. If your Land Cruiser Hybrid has spent significant time in the shop for safety defects, or if you experience recurring issues related to this fuel system flaw, you may have rights under state lemon law or federal warranty protections.

  • Keep Detailed Records: Save all repair orders, dealer communications, and notices you receive from Toyota.
  • Watch for Notices: Keep an eye out for your official owner notification letter arriving around late November 2026, and schedule your dealer inspection promptly.
  • Know Your Options: If your vehicle has experienced repeated failures or unreasonable delays for repairs, a lemon law attorney can help you understand whether you qualify for a buyback, replacement vehicle, or cash compensation.
