Tesla Model 3 Suspension Could Separate

Tesla will be contacting the owners of certain 2018-2019 Model 3 electric vehicles due to a potential safety issue that could increase the risk of an accident. The problem stems from the front suspension lateral link, which is connected to the sub-frame using two fasteners. According to Tesla's investigation, a loose fastener could cause the lateral link to separate from the sub-frame. The problem may lead to instability and could impact the drivers' control of the vehicle.

Although an investigation into production records does not indicate low torque values or missing bolts, Tesla has decided to file a voluntary recall to inspect and repair the vehicles affected. The recall is an expansion of the previous recall number 21V-835. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-23-31-001 and the NHTSA campaign number is 23V-235.

Tesla services will inspect the affected vehicles for proper torque of the fasteners that secure both front suspension lateral links to the sub-frame. If a loose or missing fastener is found during the inspection, Tesla services will re-torque the fastener to the correct specification. In the unlikely event that vehicle damage from a loose or missing fastener is found during the inspection, Tesla services will replace the damaged component.

Tesla has identified 25 warranty claims and 2 field reports that may be related to this condition. However, there have been no reports of crashes, injuries, or deaths related to this issue. Tesla has taken steps to address the problem, including the application of a multi-spindle tool that secures the fasteners simultaneously, along with improved torque angle controls.

If you own a 2018-2019 Model 3 electric vehicle affected by this problem, it's important to schedule an inspection and have your vehicle repaired. Don't wait until it's too late - this issue could impact the safety of you and your passengers. By taking proactive measures, you can help ensure the safety of everyone on the road.
