A small number of 2019-2020 RAM 4500 and 2019-2020 RAM 5500 trucks equipped with Braun Northwest Liquid Spring rear suspension systems could experience a loss of rear brakes due to a problem with the rear brake caliper flexible line mounting.

According to the defect report filed with the NHTSA, the cause of the defect is insufficient length of the rear brake caliper flexible line and/or the suspension component configuration. The problem could cause the line to contact suspension components and over time could wear to a point where brake fluid could leak. A loss of break fluid may result in partial or complete loss of rear brakes and could cause damage to the chassis and/or other vehicles.

Drivers could be alerted there is a problem through abnormal brake pedal feedback, abnormal stopping ability or a leak of brake fluid at the rear brake flexline.

Those receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealerships to have a repair kit installed on both rear calipers. Any worn rear brake caliper flexible lines will be replaced as needed. The NHTSA campaign number for this recall is 21V-008.
