Certain 2021 model year Nissan Rogue Sport SUVs may fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for door locks and door retention components.

According to the defect report, in May 2021, Nissan was contacted by their lift gate hing assembly supplier regarding a potential issue with certain lift gate hinge assemblies used on certain Nissan Rogue Sport and Nissan Murano vehicles. During an investigation into the problem, Nissan confirmed that the hinge assembly lacked sufficient strength due to improper molding and may break at a strength less than the regulation requirement. They have decided to issue a recall.

Description of the Noncompliance : On certain Rogue Sport vehicles, the lift gate hinges may have insufficient strength due to improper molding of the shaft. During the shaft molding process at the supplier, the movable mold was out of position during the operation. This caused the shaft to be pressed excessively, thereby reducing the strength. In this condition, the lift gate hinges may separate from the vehicle in the event of a rear crash

Those recieving notices will be asked to return to their dealers to have the left and right lift gate hinges replaced. Nissan's number for this recall is R21A7 and the NHTSA campaign number is 21V-525.
