Driver's Seat Not Properly Secured

The drivers of certain 2023 Nissan and Infiniti vehicles could experience an increased risk of injury during an accident, due to an unsecured driver's powered seat.

The problem was discovered in December 2022 when Nissan received a report about a 2023 Nissan Rogue that was experiencing excess movement in the driver's seat. When technicians investigated the vehicle, they found broken welds on the driver's seat frame between the rear inboard bracket and the inboard seat rail.

A review of the sub-supplier records determined three (3) rails that had a rejected weld condition may not have been contained at the manufacturer. Nissan investigated the impact of the weld condition of the rear inboard seat rail bracket, and as part of the assessment, performed a sled pull test on the worst-case weld condition to evaluate the driver’s seat performance in various scenarios. Nissan concluded that the driver’s seat showed performance degradation and does not meet the regulatory requirements.

Nissan and the supplier conducted a parts audit of 22,726 driver’s seat rails and zero were reported with a poor weld quality concern. Further investigation identified that the broken weld was related to a sub-supplier quality process issue. In April 2022, Nissan decided to conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall to recall all potentially affected vehicles to inspect the seat rails and replace any affected seat cushion frame assemblies

Based on the supplier records, the subject seat rails may have been used to produce a limited number of driver-powered seats for certain 2023 vehicles

The vehicles affected include:

2023 Infiniti QX60
2023 Nissan Pathfinder
2023 Nissan Rogue

Owners receiving notices will be asked to return to their dealers to have the driver's seat rail clearance to the inboard seat bracket inspected and replace the driver's seat cushion frame, as necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on June 10, 2023. Nissan's number for this recall is PC966, PC967 and the NHTSA campaign number is 23V-268.
