Mercedes Active Brake Assist Problem

On 2019-08-05 09:21:45

Daimler, the manufacturer of Mercedes Benz will be contacting the owners of certain 2019-20210 GLE Class, C Class, E Class, S Class, GLC Class and CLS Class vehicles equipped with a driver assistance package, because of a problem affecting the forward collision avoidance system.

According to the defect report, coding of the radar sensor control unit may not meet current production specifications. This could result in an impaired signal matching of the radar sensor, causing the autonomous partial or full braking to not function as intended. The vehicle's active brake assist feature for reducing or avoiding collisions would be diminished, increasing the risk of an accident. Drivers will not receive an advance warning due to the nature of the failure mechanism, but the driver will still be alerted by an optical and acoustic waning of the Active Brake Assist.

MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will update the radar sensor control unit software. The recall is expected to begin September 17, 2019. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service for more information about the problem.
