2022-2023 Land Rover Range Rover Distorted Rear View Display

On 2025-01-16 08:50:52

Certain 2022-2023 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles could experience a problem with the rear view camera. The issue affects the vehicle's ability to display a clear image on the touchscreen, which can increase the risk of accidents and injuries.

According to Land Rover, water may enter the rear view camera, causing the image to become distorted or not appear on the display at all. This problem is attributed to water ingress into the rear-facing tailgate-mounted camera. When water enters the camera, it can result in a blurred image or no image being displayed on the touchscreen.

Investigation and Recall

The issue came to light in late September 2024, when Land Rover's Product Safety and Compliance (PSCC) team opened an investigation following receipt of field reports concerning loss of or deteriorated rear camera image. The investigation revealed that certain Range Rover vehicles were susceptible to water intrusion into the rear view camera, which could lead to a distorted or non-functional image.

Safety Risks Associated with the Problem

A blurred or missing rear view camera image can pose significant safety risks to drivers and pedestrians. If the driver is unaware of objects or pedestrians behind the vehicle, it can increase the likelihood of an injury or crash. This is particularly concerning in situations where the vehicle is reversing or maneuvering in tight spaces.

Remedy and Notification

Land Rover is currently developing a remedy for the problem, which will be implemented as soon as possible. In the meantime, owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 14, 2025, informing affected vehicle owners of the issue and the steps being taken to address it. The recall is identified by Land Rover's number N946 and the NHTTA campaign number 24V-947.

What Affected Vehicle Owners Should Do

If you own a 2022-2023 Land Rover Range Rover vehicle, it's essential to be aware of this issue and take steps to ensure your safety on the road. When the remedy is available, you will be notified by Land Rover, and you should schedule a service appointment with your local dealership to have the necessary repairs made. In the meantime, exercise caution when reversing or maneuvering your vehicle, and be aware of your surroundings to minimize the risk of accidents.
