Lamborghini Urus Hood Latch Striker Safety Concern

If you're an owner of a 2023-2024 Lamborghini Urus Performante or Urus S, you may want to pay attention to this important notice. According to the manufacturer, certain vehicles may have a hood latch striker issue that could compromise safety on the road.

The problem lies in the rivet studs that secure the hood latch striker, which might not have sufficient deformation. When combined with high-speed driving (above 94 miles per hour), these weak rivet studs can cause gaps to develop between the hood and front bumper, allowing air entry. Over time, this stress can lead to the latch system failing and separating the hood latch striker from the hood.

A separated hood latch striker poses a significant risk to drivers and other road users. The hood may open abruptly, obstructing the driver's view and increasing the likelihood of a crash. In extreme cases, the entire hood could detach, creating a hazard for following traffic and potentially causing a crash.

The issue was first detected in August 2023, with two non-safety related warranty claims reporting misalignment between the carbon hood and fender. Although no further incidents were found at that time, Lamborghini's supplier decided to implement a 100% check of the forming phase of the rivet studs and introduce structural glue as a robustness measure.

In February 2024, another warranty claim was received from Indonesia, this time reporting a complete detachment of the carbon hood during high-speed driving. Further investigation revealed insufficient deformation on the rivet studs, which led to additional testing and analysis.

After reappear testing in April 2024 confirmed the risk of hood latch striker separation at high speeds, Lamborghini's Product Safety Committee determined that a defect related to motor vehicle safety existed. As a result, a voluntary recall was initiated to ensure the safety of all affected vehicles.

Dealers will inspect and repair the hood, as well as install a striker support plate if necessary. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on June 28, 2024. The recall number is L636-R.02.24, with the NHTSA campaign number being 24V-348. To minimize risks and ensure your safety on the road, it's essential to take immediate action upon receiving your owner notification letter.
