Jeep Gadiator & Jeep Wrangler Transmission Overheating

Chrysler will be contacting the owners of certain 2020-2021 Jeep Gladiators and 2018-2021 Jeep Wranglers, because of a problem affecting the clutch pressure plate in their vehicles. In October 2020, the FCA US Vehicle Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization opened an investigation after a 2021 Jeep Gladiator caught fire at a FCA assembly plant.

According to the defect report, under certain circumstances the clutch pressure plate could overheat because of too much friction. Repeated overheating could cause the pressure plate to fracture and make cracks and holes in the transmission case which may allow heated debris to be expelled. If this heated debris come in contact with combustible materials in the vehicle it could lead to a fire.

NOTE:  Drivers may smell a burnt clutch odour prior to transmission failure.

Owners receiving recall notices will be asked to return to their dealerships to have the power train control module software reprogrammed to reduce engine torque when clutch assembly temperatures rise to damaging levels. FCA US LLC's number for this recall is Y01 and the NHTSA campaign number is 21V-028.
