Hyundai Remote Smart Parking Software Error

On 2020-05-01 08:40:15

Hyundai will be contacting the owners of certain 2020 Nexo and 2020 Sonata cars because of a problem affecting the Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) system.

RSPA uses advanced technology to autonomously park a vehicle so that it is easier for occupants to access trunks and narrow parking spaces. The feature is programmed with a fail safe mode that stops the vehicle from moving when it detects a system malfunction. Some 2020 Nexo and Sonata vehicles could have an error in the RSPA software that may allow the vehicle to continue moving even if it detects a system malfunction. This unintended movement of an unoccupied vehicle could increase the risk of a crash and injury to bystanders.

Dealers will correct the problem by reprogramming the RSPA software. The recall is expected to begin in June 2020. Hyundai's number for this recall is 191 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-213.
