Hyundai Tucson Engine Compartment Fire

Hyundai will be contacting owners of certain 2019-2021 Hyundai Tucson vehicles regarding a problem that could result in an engine compartment fire.

The subject vehicles are equipped with anti-lock braking system modules that could corrode internally. According to the defect report, flux residue from the soldering process could accumulate on the ABS module's main controller board. With exposure to heat and humidity, the residue could become a corrosive and create an electrical short.

Warnings that a problem exists include:

1.  Smoke from the engine ocmpartment.

2.  A burning or melting odor.

3.  Illumination of the MIL and/or ABS light.

Dealers will correct the problem by replacing the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU). Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. Hyundai's number for this recall is 195 and the NHTSA campaign number is 20V-543.
