Ford Motor Company (Ford) will be contacting the owners of certain Ford and Lincoln vehicles due to a manufacturing issue that could potentially lead to a vehicle fire. The company will be reaching out to owners of the affected vehicles to inform them about the problem and provide necessary instructions for repair.
The following vehicle models are affected by this recall:
2023-2024 Ford Escape |
2025 Ford Explorer |
2024 Ford Mustang |
2023 Lincoln Corsair |
Ford became aware of the issue in July 2024 when Ford's Critical Concern Review Group received warranty reports indicating that some fuel injectors were missing essential o-ring support discs. These components are critical in preventing fuel leaks, which, if left unchecked, could pose a significant safety risk.
Upon discovering the issue, Ford's Supplier Technical Assistance team collaborated with the supplier to investigate the problem further. They reviewed images taken of all fuel injectors during their production to identify any parts that may have been affected. Ford then cross-referenced this data with vehicle production records to determine which vehicles might be impacted by this defect.
After thorough analysis, Ford's Field Review Committee approved a field action to address the issue. As of August 16, 2024, Ford has identified 10 vehicles that may have been manufactured with injectors missing the o-ring support discs. While no fires, accidents, or injuries have been reported in connection with this issue, Ford is taking proactive measures to prevent any potential risks.
The root of the problem, according to Ford's defect report, lies in the possibility that the injector o-ring support disc was not installed during the manufacturing process at the supplier's facility. Without this crucial component, fuel could leak and accumulate near hot engine surfaces. If this occurs, drivers might notice smoke or, in the worst-case scenario, experience an under hood fire.
In addition to the risk of fire, there are other warning signs that customers should be aware of. These include a noticeable fuel odor both inside and outside the vehicle, and possible difficulties starting the vehicle. If any of these symptoms are present, it is important for owners to have their vehicles inspected and repaired as soon as possible.
To correct the problem, Ford dealers will replace the faulty fuel injector o-rings and install the missing o-ring support discs. Ford has assigned the recall the number 24S54, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign number is 24V-634.
Ford is committed to ensuring the safety and reliability of its vehicles, and this recall is part of their ongoing efforts to maintain the trust and confidence of their customers. If you own a Ford or Lincoln vehicle and suspect it might be affected by this recall, it's crucial to contact your local dealer or Ford's customer service for further information and to schedule a repair.
