Approxamately one million Ford F-Series owners can expect to receive notices from the manufacturer, regarding a problem affecting the safety of the door latches in their trucks.

According to the NHTSA defect report, water entering the door latch could freeze and cause the latch mechanism to bind after opening. In addition, kinked actuation cables, which may have occurred during installation, could result in latch binding. When binding by either mechanism occurs, the door may appear closed without being latched. If the door opens while driving, it could increase the risk of injury to occupants.

Drivers may experience difficulty opening the door, latching a door while closing, a door that rebounds while attempting to shut it, or repeat effors needed to engage a binding latch. Dealers will install water shields over the door latches, inspect the door latch actuation cables and replace parts as necessary.
