daytime running lights, drl problem. i am often required to drive with lights off on property as an astronomer at nighttime. my 2005 toyota corolla lights are always on even when the lights are in the off position. if stalked or my girlfriend drives the car we could not turn them off and drive away and escape alive. this is a hazard that can cause death or rape from stalkers or robbers. i often am alone at night in dark deserted areas and need to be able to turn light off or on as needed. i could not get on the observatory property due to this defect. *jb

purchased 2005 toyota corolla in august 2004. the car has had a consistent smell of rotten eggs (sulfur), almost daily with it worse when the car idles & after car shutoff. dealer said try premium gas, which i did and no effect. dealer said toyota had no knowledge or suggestions about problem, although i am aware of a 5/28/04 service bulletin for 2003-2004 corolla's for the exact problem. dealer also said it could not be the catalytic converter because the dashboard light wasn't on, yet toyota just settled a 2 million law suit for the dash lights not coming on and emission defects were not being picked up with regular code testing. dealer mentioned a number of other persons brought their car in lately for same thing but suggested it was related to our current cold weather. when i mentioned the problem with my car has persisted since late august, a week after i bought the car, the dealer suggested the smell was from bad gas & the wind probably blew it into the car. my understanding is that this smell has been a very significant problem with corolla's (& some other cars) and a number of 2005 owners on various discussion boards have also reported it. sometimes, the smell is so strong that i have to put the window down & i wonder what the constant exposure to sulfus will do to my allergies and asthma and why i should continue to pollute the air with sulfur everyday while toyota 's dealers treat me as if i am some neurotic patron. *nm

rpm's increase when my foot is on the brake and the force of the rpm increase decompresses the brake pedal and my foot slips of the brake pedal. i have not experienced an accident due to this but it worries me that it may. this happens on a daily basis. i heard this may be normal but now reading that other people experienced this, i plan to get it checked. aside from this, there is dash board rattling, seal issue with windows because they whistle and also paint flakes off from a small ding. *nm

the brakes failed, causing the vehicle to crash into a wall while attempting to park in a garage. also, power steering did not work during inclement weather, making the ability to maintain control of the vehicle difficult. manufacturer was contacted by consumer.*ak prior to the accident, the brakes locked up and skidded in dry road conditions. vehicle surged forward when attempting to stop vehicle. when the power steering failed the battery light came on. dealer found nothing wrong and no adjustments were made. after vehicle came back from dealer's inspection there was a grinding/scretching noise. consumer had to take vehicle back to dealer and found that the backing plate behind the rotors was bent. backing plate was bend back into place. consumer felt grinding noise was not a result of accident and/or damages occured to vehicle. *tt

1. noise from the front dish panel/instrument panel. this noise is not always happening but is easy to duplicate. the dealer rejects to repair it. toyota rep said it is the characteristics of the vehicle (the vibration noise is the standard of toyota???). 2. window vibration especially when the window is 3/4 down. have been to dealer for 9 times (3 times for the same seat noise problems), they said "nothing wrong with my vehicle.*ak

(2) while driving down the highway the day before the service appointment the car stalled out on me! after i pulled over to the side of the road, the vehicle would not start! i had to have the vehicle towed back to the dealership. as i was pulling into a parking space, my toyota corolla (2005) surged forward and caused me to hit into the front bumper of another parked vehicle. i had my foot on the brake at the time of the surge. witnesses said that they saw my car slowly enter the parking spot then suddenly shoot forward. two witnesses said the car made a strange sound similar to a manual car shifing gears. my car is an automatic. i had the car towed to the dealer who said that they could find nothing wrong with the car. there was no damage to my car but the other vehicle's bumper had a scratch.

warm engine starting: i bought a new 2005 toyota corolla le from toyota central, los angeles, ca, usa. on a number of ocassions when the engine is warm, starting it would cause a lot of cranking before it started. a number of owners have the same problem as reported on various forums on the internet. i have had multiple incidents, and the latest incident date is reported in the "incident date" field of this form.

dt: on 7-19-05 consumer's vehicle was involved in an accident. during the accident the seat belt disconnected, and the steering wheel locked in the down position, and it knocked the steering wheel upward while it was still locked. the consumer sustained injuries, including whip-lash, shaking, and a concussion. the consumer refused to go to the hospital. a police report was taken because consumer's vehicle was rear ended by another vehicle, causing it to hit another vehicle. *ak

driving on the interstate at 75 mph noticed loud squealing noise coming from moonroof, under 75 mph if there are strong cross winds. also, a rattle noise from the driver side window. took it to dealership once back in town and they could not duplicate the noise from the moonroof since there were no winds over here and hard to find interstates close by with speed limit of 75 mph. they did duplicate the rattle on the driver side window and placed felt in the door to make the door conform better. they are also ordering a new seal because that one is deformed in two places towards the top. we will see if that will fix it. now the moonroof is rattling loudly so they will be looking at that when they replace the part on the driver side door. since my dealership over here cannot duplicate the noise, we will be taking it to grand junction dealership where we always here it because the interstate has a speed limit of 75 mph and always have strong cross winds. i am still hoping these rattling noises and very loud squealing can be fixed. the noises are very annoying while driving. making a half-u turn; pulled out of parking spot and slowly drove to opposite side; put car in reverse, foot on brake, slowly backing up toward curb; foot still on brake, car standing still, turned steering wheel slightly to left to proceed, put into drive....car suddenly lurched forward at excessive speed and hit curb and bricks around a tiny tree and stopped...all in a matter of 3-4 seconds. the underside of the front behind the bumper was bent and smashed, dripping fluid, bent bars....noticed when car was started in past few weeks that the idle was faster than usual (similar to a winter idle) not a summer idle, but the idle slowed down by itself; car was taken to auto repair and damaged parts replacement. *nm

this is an amendment to the complaint previously reported 10137143 - making a turn from a parking space, drove to opposite curb, foot on brake, shift to reverse, back up slowly to curb, with foot on brake, turned wheel slightly to left to go down street, shifted into drive, took foot off brake, car suddenly lurched forward toward curb at excessive speed in 3-4 seconds from a stopped position, front of car hit curb and cement bricks forming a square border around a tiny, thin tree, car stopped with foot on brake,front underside of car was damaged, bar bent, radiator dented, leaking, no a/c; previous week had noticed car was idling faster upon starting (like a winter idle, not a summer idle) but idle slowed by itself when driving; car was taken to collision repair, after insurance adjuster came, damaged parts replaced; extensive damage; one passenger in front seat, seat belt restraint caused chest soreness for a few hours. *nm

when light turned green consumer proceeded to apply gas pedal and 2005 corolla barely moved. consumer then smelled something burning. *ts when the consumers wife parked and exited the vehicle, she noticed the right front wheel was burning and smoke was coming out of the wheel and was red. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. upon inspection, they did confirm there was smoke coming from the passenger side wheel. the mechanic removed the front wheels and found the right front brake pads discolored and the rotors were deeply scored from the heat. the brake booster push rod were found protruding into the brake master and the issue was with the caliper . on oct 21, 2005 the consumer experienced the same failure again. *jb

my wife was driving a 2005 toyota corolla with manual transmission on a dirt road at slow speed. right wheels got in soft dirt, car skidded, she braked and tried to steer out of skid. the car turned around backwards, slid to almost a stop, slowly rolled on to left side, then on roof. car was totaled, she was not injured. we at first assumed rollover occurred because braking during skid caused the engine to die locking the front wheels causing loss of control. however this does not explain why the car rolled at such a slow speed. roll occurred on fairly level ground. we later inspected the car and found both left tires flat with beads separated. it appears that sliding sideways caused the beads to break, the tires went instantly flat and the wheels dug into the dirt causing the slow 1/2 rollover. note: tires were 165/65r15 goodyear integrity. this size was not available in the form. *jb

i was driving between 30 and 35 mph on a back paved road when a buck ran out in front of my vehicle. i pushed my brakes all the way down to the floor but the car wouldn't stop. i pushed them again and the car still wouldn't stop. i ended up hitting a ditch and rolling my car on its side. the mechanic could not find a problem with the abs. i had 2 goodyear tires (the car had less than 2500 miles) that blew out. airbags deflated upon impact. *jb

2005 toyota corolla passenger sensor is overly sensitive. when seat is touched ringers go off. *ts when any object is placed in the seat the ringer sounds. whenever a back seat passenger touched the passenger seat the ringer would sound. the ringer also sounded occasionally for no reason at all. the consumer spoke to the service manager at the dealer who stated that the sensor was working to the specifications of the vehicle. *nm

on hot and humid days, condensation builds up inside the ventilation system. this causes water to pool (and remain pooled) in the ventilation system. as a result severe mildew growth has occurred in ventilation system. this mildew creates and awful sewage smell, and is extremely irritating to my allergies. dealer sprayed lysol disinfectant in ventilation intake. the problem came back a week later. to this day, i continually must spray lysol in the ventilation system. many types of mildew can be toxic to any human (not just allergy sufferers), and are *known* to cause cancer, which is very concerning to me. toyota's "official" solution to this problem is to keep spraying lysol in the ventilation system, and to open the windows when the [sewage] smell becomes unbearable. i personally know other 2005 corolla owners, and their corolla's suffer from the same problem. *****i cannot provide the vin as i am away at my first year of college, without my car, and do not have data more specific than what is stated. feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions. *jb

driving southbound on 405 freeway just north of springdale exit in heavy traffic at about 45 mph in slow lane (lane furthest away from center divider). car suddenly starts to slow down and noticed that check-engine light has come on and tachometer reads 0 (zero) rpm. switch on emergency blinkers and transition to emergency lane to the right. come to complete stop, glance at tachometer and now it is reading about 900 rpm (normal idle). try to accelerate to resume trip but car is extremely sluggish. brake and come to complete stop again. place transmission in park, stop engine, and re-start engine. place transmission in drive, now accelerates normally and merge with traffic. check-engine light still on. mileage around 26045 miles. time about 4:. started trip about 1 hour 15 minutes beforehand. traveled about 35 miles. fuel tank about 2/3 (two-thirds) full with 87 octane gasoline. last purchase from union 76. have followed all recommended manufacturers maintenance according to owner's manual. no non-manufacturer installed accessories added. external ambient temperature about 60-65 degrees f. have made appointment with south coast toyota (regular service dealer used) to bring car in first thing 2/2/2006 for inspection, etc. *nm

dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle intermittently stalled. the vehicle restarted after 5 minutes following every stalling incident. additionally, the engine sometimes required several attempts before starting after the vehicle has been sitting for an extended period of time. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer for inspection. the dealer replaced the fuel pump, although that did not remedy the problem.

i was driving (in area where apparently a lot of accidents happen at this particular intersection) and i came to a stop sign - could only turn right or left...looked left - saw no one, then looked right - saw a truck way in the distance...so i accelerated to make a left turn and boom! i was hit on the drivers side (the side where i saw no one) - never saw it coming, car was completely totaled, and my left clavicle was broken in 5 places. side air bag never deployed, front air bag never deployed and not sure if i hit my head...but i lost consciousness for a little while. i didn't think to report it - nor did i realize that it was a problem, until now when i'm researching cars and saw that someone else had this same incident/problem. i will call toyota and report it asap. *jb

my corolla stalled in a flooded street that was visibly passable for other vehicles, both small and large. as a result of the exposure to the water, the car experienced a major engine failure. during a discussion with a representative at the dealership, i learned that the air-in-take system is located relatively low to the ground "on the bumper." this seems to be a design flaw which could lead to the car failing to perform during relatively minor flooding conditions. *jb

we bought a 2005 toyota corolla in july of 2004. we have been extremely happy with the way the car runs mechanically never having any issues. our vehicle is currently at 40,310 and we are experiencing a failure with the charcoal canister. in order to pass emissions for the state of nc we have to replace this particular part. since our car is no longer covered under our basic 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty we are having to replace this part on our own. this is very discouraging since our vehicle is only 4,000 miles over our basic warranty coverage. this problem has occurred with many other toyota corolla vehicles around the same mileage. we feel this needs to be looked into because it seems odd that the charcoal canister fails around this mile marker in numerous vehicles. this is a component of the car the contributes to keeping our air clean. toyota is failing to provide a car that will do so. *nm

i bought toyota corolla le 2005 in march 2005 at that time i got 3 year warranty/36,000 miles and the automobile has 36,800 miles and it is already out of warranty. on sunday, february 4, 2007 at 9:00 am something unusual happened to my car. i woke up around 8 :00 am in the morning and then i decided to buy something from the market for my breakfast and went to the garage and looking at my car i discovered that the right side window glass was broken into thousands of pieces. fortunately my family and i were not inside the car at the time of incident otherwise we would have be hurt by those glass. now i am scared of taking my son and wife into the car because the other glass may shatter and hurt me an m y family. driving this vehicle is putting my family and me in danger of being harmed by the glass because the glass came with a defect from the manufacturer. i have gone to toyota dealership in person to report this incident and they do not want to take responsibility to replace it with a new glass. i have also contacted the manufacturer of toyota and they do not even want to take responsibility to replace it. i think most of these models window glass comes with a defect so i would like you to take a test in the lab and ask the manufacturer to replace the windows of my car. i am reporting and making a complaint to protect the consumers and me so i would like you to take any actions against this manufacturer. please think of my son and wife because this is the only vehicle that i have to transport them to different places. right now i am scared to drive thinking that any time this will break and hurt me. thank you very much and i hope your consideration as soon as possible. *jb

in june 2006 the brakes on the 2005 toyota corolla suddenly felt loose, but they worked ,and a mechanic found no problem. i noticed that the brakes were dragging and reported this to the dealership, but before i could go in for service the brakes locked in downtown minneapolis during rush hour. i got my car to a nearby service station and they replaced the brake pads and other worn-out parts. the car was fine for a few weeks, i submitted the brake work under my warranty, then the brakes began dragging again. i brought the car to my dealership, they found no problem, and toyota denied my claim under the theory that "brakes aren't covered." i think my master cylinder malfuntions when the temperature is high. toyota has no response to the problem of my brakes dragging and locking up, other than to blame me. *ak

(problem - clutch) purchased 2005 toyota corolla xrs in 08/04 (no longer made). taken it regularly to have it svc'd at charles barker toyota laskin rd - virginia beach, va. i've had to take it back a few times in btwn the regular sched svc. approx 39,123 miles. purchased the platinum extended warranty plan. 10nov06 i paid $281.27 for the 30,000 miles svc, because i was told that i needed it. 11apr07 i paid $252.90 for the 35,000 miles svc, again because i was told by the dealer that i needed. i do not drive my car in a way that the clutch would've burned out in 3yrs. online (toyotafinancial.com)/new vehicle protection plan comparison/manual transmission- it shows everything that is covered by the warranty. there are items listed for the clutch that is covered by the warranty. when i called about the warranty (purchased through toyota) they stated that nothing was covered. which i don't understand. because they're stating 2 different things. if the platinum coverage online is not correct, then that's false advertisement. fidelity warranty services, inc. p.o. box 8567 deerfield beach, florida 33443 1-800-327-5172 contract nbr. 38848636. i don't expect them to cover the whole amount that was quoted. but the either the dealer or the warranty should help cover some of the expense. the maintenace of the car has been kept up. there's no reason why the clutch should've went out in 3yrs. i was told by toyota dealership - asst. svc mgr to call the warranty company. when i called the warranty company, i was told that i wasn't suppose to be calling them. so i'm getting the run around & the whole amount is going to be put me regardless. which is unfair. it has never been hard to shift into gears, but for the past weeks when you go into 5th & 6th gear (there was no griding sound as if it had problems going into gear), the car seem as if it was unable to pick up speed & when you pressed on the gas the motor just sounded louder & there was a burning smell.

i have a 2005 corolla s. it had a really bad vibration in the dash and could not be detected. the dealer removed the dash numerous times over a 7 week period. the vibration was finally located in the pillar(it was the drain pipe for the sunroof). the dash now has a vibration that at 70 mph sounds like a loud whistle- very annoying. the dealer will not work on it because the original 36,000 mile warranty is past. i believe that the roseburg oregon dealer should stand behind the fact that they removed the dash enough to cause this vibration. *jb

i was exiting a restaurant waiting to turn right on a busy highway. while sitting there with the car in drive and my foot on the brake pedal, the engine suddenly started racing. the car sugred forward a couple of feet but i pressed harder on the brake pedal and stopped it again. i put the car in neutral and tapped the gas pedal a couple of times but the engine kept racing very fast. i finally put the car in park and turned the key off. after restarting the car, it seemed to be fine except the idle seemed to be a little bit faster than normal. i took the car to a toyota dealer the next day but they were unable to duplicate the problem and said they could not find anything wrong. i was asked several times whether my foot could have been on the brake and gas pedals at the same time but i am absolutely sure this was not the case. please reference odi id numbers 10109072, 10173082, 10137143, 10125071, 10163070, 10200923, 10165337, 10166526 for similar complaints related to 2005 and 2006 corollas. updated 01-16-08. *kb

i own a 05 corolla xrs. i have had a problem with metal tearing issues. first one was the muffler bracket tore off and so my muffler was just hanging there. i had that welded at a muffler shop and it has fixed the problem for now. second is my trunk latch, this is the part that is bolted to the body of the car that the trunk latches onto. this piece has completely tore out of the body, it has been rewelded a few times but it can't be welded anymore. i keep it tied closed and can't use my trunk. now today 9-26-2007 is the last draw, the muffler bracket has completely broke in half and not were it was welded. i feel this is a very cheaply made car and will never buy a toyota again. i am extremely disappointed and the dealer tells me it i out of warranty and they don't want nothing to do with it, i keep getting told to see a body shop. i don't have $1,000.00 to replace the rear panel of my car every time the trunk latch decides to tear out of the body because the metal is to thin.

i purchased a 2005 4 door toyota corolla ce from a dealer here in puerto rico. i purchased the vehicle brand new. i am still making payments on this vehicle has i am going into my 4th year this year of making payments. the dealer suggested transmission oil change service every 15,000 miles. my vehicle has already over 72,000 highway miles. so far i have done 3 transmission oil changes mainly because they are not cheap. last december i noticed that the cars transmission at certain periods would not shift while idling and then taking off. my car has an automatic transmission. i took it in for service thinking that it was time for an transmission oil change. last night again i noticed that the automatic transmission would not shift. i parked the vehicle on the side of the road, shift the vehicle into park, and then started into drive again. for some reason that seems to work and from then on the vehicle seems to work fine. i am the original owner of this vehicle and i have never had any collisions with this vehicle. i was actually looking for recalls on the nhtsa for this particular vehicle and all i could find was a recall for the front head lamps from enco. pls reply

the a/c condenser was replaced due to toyota's admitted design flaw as per their technical service bulletin ac002-06 titled lower grille mesh protection cover. which informs an owner that their a/c condenser is unprotected which will cost them $590. however, toyota failed to back their product up by reimbursing it. this is safety hazard in the southwest because of the extreme heat and if someone with children goes to turn their air conditioning on and it does not work this poses health risks.

car stalled on interstate - tried to get as far to right side as possible. called and waited for a tow truck, which took me to a local auto repair shop. auto repair shop informed me that i needed a fuel pump replacement, which is strange, since my 2005 toyota corolla is just barely 3 and 1/2 years old. come to find out, when they went to order the part, they said it would cost 3 times the normal amount for a toyota corolla fuel pump because mine happen to be made in a batch during a 3 month period in which they no longer made that same sort of fuel pump. i have always kept up with my maintenance checks, so this fuel pump replacement seems like it was bound to happen no matter how well i took care of my car. it's only 3 1/2 years since i acquired this corolla, and i'm already replacing an item that cost me over $1,500.00, which is a damage i had no control over. i'm afraid that this particular fuel pump is going to break at some point again, since it seems to be a part that toyota no longer continued manufacturing...

my complaint is with my 2005 toyota corolla le 1.8l. i bought this car new, and since i have owned it, the air conditioning compressor has been damaged by rocks and destroyed under normal driving conditions. the first time it happened i thought it was a fluke, and paid for it out of my own pocket and got it repaired by a toyota dealership ($1000 repair). it was repaired about a year ago, and it stopped working again last fall. i have put off getting it repaired again for fear that the repair will only last another 6months to a year. i have heard that this is a common problem, and i believe it is a faulty design on toyota's part.

a/c condenser which went out on monday. i've discovered that toyota issued tsb ac002-06 admitting that the condenser is flawed. however, because it was not recalled, they are not responsible. i am having it repaired because i live in new orleans and the heat is unbearable. this is a totally unfair practice. i think that these issues should be illegal since they've admitted the flaw. i was told that there is no protection for the new condenser. it was corrected in the 2007 model but not the 2005. i am livid at the fact that toyota is so uncaring about the 2005 owners. i should be reimbursed for the repair ($677) and, also, advised as to how i can prevent this from happening again. where can i find mesh to protect the new condenser?

this complaint is based on two instances of my corollas condenser breaking down because of rocks hitting it while driving. last year my wife asked me to look at the ac of our corolla as the ac was not blowing cold air. she took it to the totoya dealer in duncanville, tx and they told us that the condenser was not covered and we had to pay $600 to fix. we chose to buy the condenser elsewhere and to install it myself. now a about a year later, we ran out of cold air again. i did not think it was the condenser. what is the likelihood that a replaced new condenser goes bad. we went to auto zone to get a recharge kit and sealer. after applying them there still was no cold air and their is a visible leak on the front region where the first condenser also suffered damage. searching for replacements on the internet i came across several people that had the same problem and no solution from toyota other than to pay to replace the condenser. toyota even admits this in technical service bulletin ac002-06 "lower grille mesh protection cover." in the intro it reads some customers may experience damage to the a/c condenser if the vehicle is used regularly. i do not believe i should have to pay for something they should have fixed so i don't have to replace my condenser every year or maybe more frequently. they should pay to repair my damage and to install the cover to protect it from now on. our is corolla 2005.

tire valves on all 4 tires failed within a 2 month period. tires were yokohama avid t4 and were fitted by prestige toyota on december 9, 2006. tire 1 failed on june 24th 2008 on garden state parkway, nj. tire was not recoverable due to us having to drive almost 1 mile on the tire to get to a safe area to pull over. it was replaced that day mavis discount tires in nanuet ny. tire 2 failed on july 10 on the george washington bridge in nj. as we had to drive over the bridge to safely pull over the tire was not recoverable. it was replaced next day by mavis discount tires in nanuet ny. technician said tire failed due to broken valve. tire 3 failed on august 24 in ridgewood nj after driving from philadelphia to nyc. tire was recoverable and examined by technician at fort lee tire center on august 25th. technician observed broken valve. valve was replaced and tire reinflated. technician also inspected tire 4 (the last remaining good tire). by slightly pressing on the valve it came apart and the tire deflated. technician replaced valve immediately.

i've been driving a 2005 corolla ce when all of a sudden the a/c stopped working. it blows warm air, warmer then the air temperature of outside. i live in the lower desert of southern california where temperatures reach up to 115 degrees. according to technical service bulletin ac002-06, toyota failed to protect the compressor. with daily use, rocks continue to damage the compressor until the ac stopped working. at times i felt weak after getting into my car after a day of sitting in my works parking lot. i'm extremely hot and have had onset of headaches while driving this vehicle.

vehicle air conditioner stopped working. toyota dealer diagnosed problem as a/c condenser must have been hit by a rock. cost to replace is $770.00. the vehicle has no protective covers to prevent this from happening. toyota has now placed protective covers on later model vehicles to prevent this problem from happening in the future.

i have encountered what i believe to be a major manufacturing error. my vehicle�s engine produces a very large and instantaneous increase in horsepower (a �surge�) at 6800 rpm (due to a �cam switchover�). i have observed dynamometer readouts which place this jump at around 40hp. because of this strange and instantaneous jump in horsepower, during slippery conditions, or on roads with debris such as sand or gravel, the car would, without prior warning, lose traction when it hit this power surge �point�. i am well aware the xrs is a performance type vehicle, and enjoy it when road conditions are perfect, yet it causes me great discomfort to know that merging onto the highway during rain or snow (or with sand or gravel on the road surface) may mean an abrupt loss in traction leading to a crash, injury, or worse. i have personally experienced some very unnerving near-accidents due to the engine�s bizarre power delivery. strangely enough, my research indicates that previous iterations of the same engine produced by toyota have the �cam switchover point� placed much lower in the rpm range, leading to a much smoother power delivery (which i believe is safer and more predictable). i have contacted toyota a total of three times, once through mail and twice by phone, about this problem. the representatives i talked with could/would not answer my questions about this problem, as well as refusing to admit to a problem with this particular special edition car. with winter approaching, i'm not waiting to have an accident to report this manufacturer error, especially so since toyota has refused to acknowledge the problem.

i have a 2005 corolla that stalled out on me while i was driving 65 miles an hour. i have always had trouble starting the car, even the day i drove it off the lot brand new. toyota stated that they didn't see anything wrong with the vehicle when i brought it in a week after purchasing the car. so after it stalled i had the car towed to a local toyota dealer ship, where i was told that the fuel pump went bad. i was upset that my 4yr old car needed a new fuel pump. i was told that the cost to replace the pump was $1500. i later found out that toyota put out a technical service bulletin about the faulty pump, and they had to change the design. so toyota is aware of this design flaw. i had the car towed to a garage, where they put in a used fuel system from a junked car. the cost was about $500, so i hope that this pump will last a few years.

since i bought my car used last year, the passenger side window has been sticking sometimes. i thought that it usually happened when the weather was warm but realized that it even happened when in cold weather, so it is probably not weather related. when i want to put the window down, it has been popping down like it was stuck on something, i don't even feel like putting it down sometimes because i feel like im going to break the window motor. then yesterday when i tried to put the window down...the door panel was popping out as if the window rubber was curling down into the window channel...although that is not what i saw occurring. at that time it also made a popping noise which i have heard louder then other times.

on december 11, 2008 my daughter drove my car to her part time job, she called and told me that the car stopped on her as she pulled into the parking lot of the bank, but started back up. that afternoon upon leaving the bank, the car stopped again. she called and stated that she saw smoke coming from the car. with in minutes the car was in flames. the fire department was called, but they were unable to put out the flames before the car completely burned, leaving bare metal, all the windows were shattered.. the flames were so hot that window of the store broke.

vehicle was traveling 15-25 mph with moderate to heavy traffic 2 lane road around 1:15pm with dry clear conditions. second vehicle attempting to cross road collided with first vehicle in the left rear fender causing the first vehicle to rotate 180 degrees to collide with a third vehicle breaking the front axle of the first vehicle, side airbags deployed but did not inflate. first vehicle totaled. 1 injury(passenger),cuts to ear requiring 8 stitches & shoulder injured due to secondary impact.

i purchased car new and drive belt began squealing at 22,000 miles. it was under warranty so took in to have fixed and they only replaced the belt. now at 45,000 doing it again. toyota has bulletin to replace tensioner arm because they have had so many go bad. tensioner arm is defective and causing belt to wear out prematurely. please investigate. i have heard other corolla owners having the same exact issue w/their car. it's unfair that a part is defective and all car owners have to pay the $350 to have corrected. there wasn't an incident/accident but i thought you should know. thank you.

ecu (engine control unit) malfunction causes hard shift on transmission. total replacement charge sums up to 762.00 as per toyota dealer. toyota corolla s 2005 replacement information in data base is 89661 02c11 vs. 89661 02c12 on physical engine control unit part. compatibility in question. customer service admitted to have a total of 4 car with same problem during the same week. also said that they would replace it with an upgraded unit questioning the manufacture performance.

i own a 2005 toyota corolla. a few weeks ago, i noticed that my air conditioner was blowing hot air. when i had it looked at by a mechanic, i was told that debris got into the condenser and damaged it, requiring a repair. i researched the problem and discovered that toyota issued technical service bulletin ac002-06 "lower grille mesh protection cover," which acknowledges that the failure to include a protection cover near the mesh grille has caused debris to get into the air conditioner condenser, and thereby damaging it. toyota has included the grille protection cover in subsequent toyota corolla models, but it refuses to add the cover to the older models or reimburse customers for the expense in replacing damaged condensers that have resulted from this design defect.

i got my car in 2005 and i has nothing but 30 thousand miles, when i got it ran well and still does. the air conditioning works for 20 minutes then turns off and turns back on and from what i hear im not the only one. when i say it turns off i mean it blows lukewarm. i think toyota needs to do a recall because this is ridiculous on a fairly new car!

the air conditioning condenser is mounted in front of the radiator and is not protected from road debris in any measure. once hit by a small rock or similar item the condenser has to be replaced for about $600. a service bulletin issued by toyota advises installation of a deflector shield which comes with the replacement condenser from the dealer. simple correction of this problem is installation of a deflector shield before the problem arises. air conditioning is a possible hazard in hotter areas of our country as will as the condenser does not work when using defrost or defogging on the windshield which is a sight hazard. your assistance is greatly appreciated.

2005 toyota corolla did not pass emissions inspection. car taken to lia toyota, northampton, ma. dealer said car computer needed to be replaced but had to order part from toyota. so far it's been two weeks and the part may be delivered in another two weeks per toyota. over 1600 of these computers are on backorder with no delivery date supplied. i will have to pay for another emissions inspection, could e stopped by police and have my insurance increased for six years. i feel this is a known defect and toyota is not really responding to me or other customers and because the pert (very expensive) cannot be supplied before 4/30 i am incurring additional expenses. it should not take a month to get a part. the dealership is waiting for 12 of these computers and is being shipped two and has 3 cars that don't even run.
