purchased new 2007 pontiac solstice 11/06. 3/12 driving west bound and trunk flies open - no warning light on dashboard. took car to dealership on 3/13 for an accessory to be installed. dealership called on 3/14 and said trunk was bent, scratched and damaged. was not the case when i turned in the car on 3/13. played phone tag the remainder of the week. dealership informed me on 3/19 that the trunk opening and damage to trunk was my fault and they will not fix under warranty, contact insurance company. car is still not fixed as of 3/21. *ak

the passenger air bag system fails to engage occasionally when a passenger is in the seat. my wife weighs 115 lbs, 5ft 2 in and on numerous occasions the system has not engaged. the car has been taken back to the dealership twice and they have been shown the system was off with a passenger in the seat. third time is coming this week as it still isn't working all the time. each time they have reloaded the computer system and it works for a while.

i purchased my pontiac 2007 solstice this past summer "new" from paul benton pontiac in oak ridge tn. i love my car but, ever since i have owned it has had vibration problems so bad that i have taken it back numerous times to have it looked at because the top would make a scrapping noises while driving. well the noise comes and goes, i took my car today and had the safety recall done. they replaced the real pinion seal, they just replaced one seal. is it just one seal or do they need to replace more because when i went to pick it up the service counter informed me that my back r/r and l/r wheels are bent. they balanced the tires but it now the vibration is worse than before they replaced the part. i am scared to drive it because the steering is loose in it, it was tight and now the wheel turns but the wheels take a while to catch up. since i have owned this car i have had it in the service dept more than half the time. i asked the service manger if he could fix it but he said the only thing covered under the recall was the part and anything else that was wrong with it i would have to pay for it. i do not believe this is far considering i paid almost 30,000 for this car have had it less than a year and no fault of my own it is having all these problems.

tl*the contact owns a 2007 pontiac solstice. while driving 40 mph on wet pavement, one wheel lost traction at 10 to 15 degrees uphill. when the other wheel regained traction, it pulled the a-frame apart. the contact stated that the a-frame is attached with two bolts. the attachment of the a-frame has a two inch slot with a 5/8 inch bolt, no locks, washers, or anything holding the a-frame section together. with a two inch slot and a 5/8 inch bolt, the steering capability will be nonexistent if the nut comes off of the bolt. if there is any torque involved, the energy that is introduced to the slot will rip out the a-frame section. the vehicle was destroyed. the contact has pictures and a police report was filed. the purchase date was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 11,500.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

extremely hard downshifts when slowing down to stop. so severe the tires slid as you come to a stop. this is a 2007, 2.4l 4cyl pontiac solstice automatic transmission. mil lamp is on with a p2637 code set. this is a potentially dangerous situation. all downshifts are harsh when coming to a stop. upshifts are quick and harsh also.

purchased new 2007 pontiac solstice and suddenly had a flat without any movement for 6 weeks with vehicle. when having auto dealer inspect the faulty tire the dealer saw sidewall damage that reflected serious flaw/defect on several of the goodyear eagle p245/r4518 tires. was told to take to a goodyear dealer and the dealer said that goodyear akron, ohio refused to exchange tires. but would accept proration on tires that goodyear dealer conformed to be defected tires. goodyear dealer said that goodyear had same size and model tires as a recall on a different auto recently.

2007 pontiac solstice. engine lights comes on after misfires, dealers replaced spark plugs stating they were faulty (@aprox 18k miles), this happens again 6k miles later. dealer instructing there is no issue, i should not use the same gas station every fill. i am concerned that the car will misfire at a time that will leave me in the path of other cars, unable to move quick enough to avoid an accident.

i was driving (pontiac solstice 2007)and the car went out of control. the front end had some damage to the driver's side after coming in contact with a cement barrier. i contacted pontiac customer assistance to report the accident. gm sent an investigator to review the car. he found nothing wrong with the car. however, the pontiac dealership that i had the car sent to after the accident, replaced the rear differential assembly (under warranty) along with the front-end damage that my insurance company covered. i received the recall in feb. 2008 for the rear pinion seal leak and had the required work done at that time, also.

own a 2007 pontiac solstice gxp. for some time the passenger side airbag indicator light has failed to change when an adult sits in passenger seat, since approx 15,000 kms. now the display panel reads "service airbags", since approx 55,000 kms. i took it into gm, who advised that i need a sdm module. i am extremely surprised. this is an abnormal serious safety issue, through research, appears to be a common class issue with the solstice, this begs for gm to lean fwd with voluntary recall before lives are lost as a result, or before it grows to an extent akin to what toyota recently experienced with lack of fwd thinking & proactive due diligence.

service air bag warning light began to illuminate. checked manual and manual stated to see local dealer immediately. immediately means to me that this is a major safety concern. took to authorized pontiac dealer. they diagnosed the following: service air bag light is on scanned code b0081 code stored current check out performed diagnosis and pps system has no data pps has current codes 2036-1063 indicating failed pps module. $575.92 ptl to replace and program replaced pps system all in one assy with cushion wiring module, etc. recalibrate system clear codes and recheck operation ok. so bottom line, like several other identical complaints filed the passenger side air bag sensor went bad. inquired with authorized dealer if pontiac would stand behind what is an apparent numerous owners of this type of vehicle make and year occurrence with the vehicle. provided the complaints listed on this site. authorized dealer simply told me the car was no longer under warranty and that nothing could be done. how many more 2007 pontiac solstice's with low mileage have to report this problem before a recall is obvious? this is not just a squeaky rattle this is safety. these cars are equipped with air bags for a reason. they are small compact two seaters. without a properly working air bag it could be fatal for passenger in a collision. because of the small size of the car it would not take a substantial collision for safety to be a an issue. will it require someone being permanently injured or losing their life before a recall is required? i don't even know cars and i can read the posts on this site and know 2 + 2 does equal a manufacturer defect in the airbag system of these vehicles. please initiate and make pontiac do the right thing for their customers safety!

vehicle was parked on an approximate 30 degree incline when it rolled down the paved surface and struck a conrete curb. this occurred after the rear brake calipers and emergency/parking brake cable had been replaced and adjusted subsequent to an earlier incident. the vehicle will not stay parked without rolling on any inclined surface and the emergency brake will not slow the car down at all when engaged while the vehicle is rolling at less then 1 mph.

the air bag sensor in my vehicle failed shortly (2 mos) after its 'bumper-to-bumper' warranty expired. any passenger in the car faces added risk if an accident were to occur. it is my understanding that the owner's cost to fix this item is prohibitive ($500 - $800), and that the failure of this part is somewhat common for this vehicle brand.

service airbag message appeared on lcd display, passenger airbag will not turn on when a passenger is in the seat. after researching this issue it seems that this sensor failure is a pervasive issue and should result in a recall due to its directly preventing the function of a crash safety system intended to save lives. if this system does not fall under federal guidelines for a necessary recall, gm should institute a good-conscience recall due to the prohibitive cost of replacement of this simple sensor (<$800).

when i go to slow down either by coasting or light braking when my car gets to about 20mph it feels like it suddenly brakes or down shifts but if it were not for the seat belt it would send the driver and passengers into the windshield!! it is terrifying!! i am a master mechanic and i verified that it wasn't the brakes grabbing by shifting the car into neutral before it slowed to 20 mph and when you do that the car will not suddenly jerk stopped. it sets many codes tcm etc. i had the tcm replaced and synced at dealership but the car is still doing it. the code now reads that "communication to the tcm is lost" i was told by gm when speaking to them about the latest recall on the ignition switch that they said it could be related because the ignition switch recall affects the car shutting off, rolling away and the airbag inoperative light. many other pontiac solstice owners are having the same problem. it is very dangerous and is going to cause accidents if not fixed. please help.

when i go to slow down either by coasting or light braking when my car gets to about 20mph it feels like it suddenly brakes or down shifts but if it were not for the seat belt it would send the driver and passengers into the windshield!! it is terrifying!! i am a master mechanic and i verified that it wasn't the brakes grabbing by shifting the car into neutral before it slowed to 20 mph and when you do that the car will not suddenly jerk stopped. it sets many codes tcm etc. i had the tcm replaced and synced at dealership but the car is still doing it. the code now reads that "communication to the tcm is lost" i was told by gm when speaking to them about the latest recall on the ignition switch that they said it could be related because the ignition switch recall affects the car shutting off, rolling away and the airbag inoperative light. many other pontiac solstice owners are having the same problem. it is very dangerous and is going to cause accidents if not fixed. please help.

service air bag message and air bag light are on. passenger side air bag seat occupancy sensor is not detecting when someone is on the seat. system stop working for no reason. wondering if this malfunction is a manufacturing defect of the sensor. this is a safety issue since air bags won't deploy in case of an accident.

service airbag warning stays illuminated, passenger airbag is not engaged when a passenger is in the seat. i have seen many cases reported by other customers. very surprised that this is not on a recall list. dealership states not a defect. failure caused by water getting to the unit (ie coffee spill on passenger seat?). personally, i had no coffee spill, but dealership "detailed" my car two times. if this is so common, perhaps the unit should have been protected against water causing an important piece of equipment to malfunction. no doubt in my mind that this should result in a recall due to the air bag safety system intended to save lives commonly malfunctions. i have not driven my car for 2 months due to the fact i cannot get a sticker and it will cost $1,000 to fix at the dealership.

ENGINE

my vehicle recently stopped working. they repair shop (wilkins buick--richie hwy, glen burnie, md)says the problem stems from the engine. i am concerned the repair shop knows that the problem is a result of the poor build/work from the gm manufacturer, and is unwilling to repair for free. is there any recourse--can i get my engine problem fixed on gm. this car has given me numerous problems, and now i am unable to fix my car due to the high cost of the repair.

every time i start my car, i'm told my air bags need to be serviced. my dealer says it's going to cost almost $900 to fix. after some doing some research online, apparently i'm not the only one with this problem. the seat sensor mechanism is apparently defective and the cost to fix it is more than exorbitant. i'm also worried about putting myself and/or my passengers at risk because i don't have confirmable information about whether or not the air bags are defective or not.

2007 pontiac solstice. consumer writes in regards to vehicle air bag light and passenger seat issues. consumer has another vehicle complaint in artemis. *smd the consumer stated the passenger air bag light would not come on, when the seat was occupied. the dealer recommended the consumer have the air bag system replaced. on august 15, 2013, the consumer took the vehicle to another vehicle, where the passenger presence module was replaced. after the dealer, brought the vehicle from the service bay, the consumer had a passenger sit in the vehicle, and the air bag light would not come on. they had a gm representative weighing 145 pounds sit in the seat and it would come on periodically. but, one had to manipulate the key to have it come on. the dealer suggested the cushion be replaced. *jb

received a recall on faulty ignition switch dated april 2014. called a dealer to inquire on april 24, 2014. was told that part would be ordered and we would be notified when available. called 5/19/14 again to dealer, no part in yet. called again july 3, 2014. finally an appointment was set up for wed. july 9th (yesterday). i feel that is way too long to wait for what could be a life or death matter!

while driving out of town on july 4, 2014, the airbag light for passenger went from on to off (there was a passenger in the seat) and a service airbag warning light came on. called dealer to check on this, already had an appointment scheduled for july 9th to replace ignition switch (recall). were told that the two incidents were not related. received a phone call from the service department (at dealer) on july 9, 2014 that there was a faulty module for airbag system and would cost $750.00 to replace. there appear to be many complaints regarding this airbag issue. i don't feel we should have to pay for this safety issue but don't feel like there is any choice!

passenger seat cushion airbag sensor module or pps is defective and does not arm the passenger airbag with an adult in the passenger seat. dealer estimate is $1000 to replace the seat cushion. this seems to be an issue with most if not eventually all pontiac solstices. this sub standard critical life safety part should be recalled and replaced.

when applying brakes at approximately 15 mph, the car jerked very hard and i heard what sounded like the back wheels almost lock up. it almost felt like it was suddenly thrown into reverse & the car was trying to adjust. it occurred every time i slowed down to turn or stop when applying the brakes. luckily the 18 wheeler behind me coming off the interstate was far enough behind me but had he been much closer, he would have crushed me! we just bought an audi and were going to give the solstice to our 17 year old daughter as a graduation present but now i am terrified for her to drive it!! this could cause a very dangerous situation. i am scared to drive it at all. i know there is a recall so i need to call our local dealer asap!!

my 2007 pontiac solstice, 4 cylinder, 2.0 engine's is under the recall for the ignition swtich. my solstice and tons of other solstice owners along with the ignition recall...are also having problems with the warning light for the airbag safety light staying on. gm needs to add the pontiac solstice to their lists of recalls to other gm vehicles having the same exact issue. this is dangerous for paasengers/driver if involved in a front of side collision and the airbags will not deploy.

i took our solstice to a gm dealer in alcoa, tn on july 28, 2014 for the ignition cylinder recall. the ignition cylinder was replaced by the dealer. while driving home i noticed the dealer had move the steering wheel to the maximum tilt up position. when i moved the steering wheel to a middle tilt position the service airbag warning light activated. no one was in the passengers seat at this time. this warning had never been activated before. i returned the vehicle to the same dealer on august 7, 2014 and was informed that there was an open circuit in the passenger presence air bag circuit. the module was replaced at a cost to me of $852.29.

my wife weighs 105 pounds and is 5 feet 5 inches tall, she is not heavy enough to turn on the passenger air bag. i went to royal buick dealer in tucson arizona to ask if they could make an adjustment, they said no that the bags are not armed for anyone under 100 pounds. i explained to them that she weighs 105 and they said they could not help me, i asked if they could turn it on permanently and they said they could not. so, she rides in this two passenger sports car, we are senior citizens with no small children ever riding, and she is uneasy because she does not have the protection of the passenger air bag. i think even 100 pounds is too high of a requirement, should be down to 70-80 pounds. my grand daughter rides with me also, she is 12, 5 feet 6 inches and wirghs 85 pounds so she has no protection from the air bag either.
