i got this car a few days ago. the window sticker claims it has daytime running lights. the lighting stock has three options. the options are "drl off, daytime lights, and night time lights." when daytime lights are activated, it activates the daytime running lights, but also activates rear lights and dims interior gauge lights to "night lighting" levels. this poses several safety risks. firstly, people may struggle to read interior gauges when driving during the day, increasing the risk of a collision. secondly, the activated rear lights adds confusion during the day and could increase the risk of other motorists crashing into the rear. *tt

when driving the vehicle on the high way i 29 n at about 68-72 mph the brand new vehicle engine stalled abruptly and the steering wheel froze and we were stuck in the direction the steering was previously turned it and it made impossible for us to steer it on to the shoulder and the vehicle behind us almost crashed into us. we were just a whisker away from getting killed. we had a near death experience and my fiance is still having nightmares about it.

a blow out of a tire occurred while driving a 2013 hyundai elantra limited with 543 total miles on the car. the speed of the car at the time was 25 mph on a smooth road surface in a residential area. in talking to other owners, and searching the internet, we find that premature tire failure occurs frequently on the elantra. fortunately, this incident happened at a very slow speed otherwise there may well have been a fatality involved. *jb

i recently got a new hyundai elantra gls. the sticker claims that there are daytime running lights. when i called the dealer to find out why the daytime running lights on my car do not come on, they could not figure it out and suggested i call hyundai. the same switch that turns off the headlights is also the "drl off" switch. there is no separate "drl on" switch. the hyundai case manager told me that on the american-made models it is necessary to turn the parking lights on, and that this is the daytime running light system. every car has parking lights; they are not on whenever a vehicle is running and must be turned on. these are not daytime running lights. daytime running lights are supposed to be on whenever the headlights are not on. the sticker on the car may claim that the car has daytime running lights, but it seems to me that this is a lie; there are no daytime running lights on the car. a significant safety feature has been left off the car. *tt

purchased a new 2013 hyundai elantra gls 4 door. once a person turns on their daytime running lights all of the vehicles parking lights turn on as well. no other car manufacture has mandated all this illumination during daytime hours. on august 3rd 2012 at 11:40am i was issued a moving violation by a los angeles police officer in the city of van nuys, c.a. i was cited for violating california vehicle code section 24800 which states "no vehicle shall be driven at any time with the parking lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used as turn signal lamps or when the headlamps are also illuminated". i explained the scenario to my lawyer and he advised me that the citation is valid because in c.a. the word headlamps in vc section 24800 is interpreted by the courts as the vehicles primary source of forward illumination and daytime running lights do not fall into this primary source category. to avoid future citations i highly recommend that if you operate any 2013+ hyundai product do not use the daytime running light feature because the parking lights will light up and you will be subject to a citation. i advised hyundai via a recorded phone call about this problem. if they do not take proper action to correct this they will be considered negligent.

august 25, 2012 - returning from work on route 28, a high speed expressway, truck in front of me slammed on brakes and decided to switch exit ramps. slammed on my brakes and steered car to right to avoid hitting the truck. while doing so, all of a sudden the steering wheel pulled sharply to the right and i had to suddenly correct the steering path in order not to go off the road. september 5, 2012 - was notified my vehicle was ready to be picked up by jerry from hyundai customer service . i took possession of vehicle because i had no other choice. 2013 hyundai elantra. consumer writes in regards to windshield wiper design failure *tgw the consumer stated the wiper blade on the passenger side was very short and the bottom end of the wiper blade left a semi-circular water streak right in front of the person sitting in the passenger seat on every wipe of the blade. also, there was a spot at the bottom of the windshields where the passenger wiper blade left a short inverted "v" type spot that the driver's wiper blade did not clean which would freeze into in the winter. the consumer stated the steering was too sensitive. the consumer was informed the vehicle has electric steering which may be related to the condition. the steering was so sensitive, that he had to constantly move the wheel left and right just to stay out of the oncoming traffic lane and stay in his lane of traffic. several times, while driving, in a slight crossing wind with various groups of trees, the level of steering sensitivity forced him to run off the edge of the road to avoid entering the oncoming traffic lane. also, on a few occasions, the consumer had to hit the brakes harder than normal, but not hard enough to engage the abs. with the electric assisted steering, it was impossible to feel if the vehicle was centered in his lane prior to using the brakes.

i purchased a 2013 hyundai elantra on june 18, 2012 from dick hannah volkswagen hyundai of portland, oregon. within a few weeks, i began hearing a noise coming from the trunk area. i made an appointment with the dealership to have it looked at on august 24, 2012. initially, i was told that they tried to use epoxy to fix the noise and i would have to wait 36 hours (over the weekend) to let it dry. on monday, the sound was still there and they ran further tests. i was then informed on wednesday that the car had been transferred to the collision center in vancouver for further inspection. on thursday, i was informed that the vehicle would need to have a part re-welded. i really was not told exactly what was being welded at that point, but that it would not be ready until the next week (following the labor day weekend). finally, on tuesday i was able to talk to the service manager, [xxx] and was informed that they had contacted hyundai to see if others had encountered the same noise. a hyundai engineer had to come out and help diagnose the problem. they verified the noise was coming from the right rear shock tower. they removed the reinforcement cap and shock tower and found two spots missed by factory welder, which did not properly adhere the strut tower to the car body and signs of rubbing making the noise. they were able to clean up the area and re-weld the piece together. they reinstalled the right rear shock tower and reinforcement cap to factory specifications. i am told that hyundai now has a file on my car. the car was returned to me on thursday, september 6, 2012. a full two weeks after i brought it in for the noise. this is clearly a huge safety defect and others should be aware of it. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

i started my car, pushed the wipe blade once so that it would get the dew off windshield. wiper blades got stuck, pushed again, it came down a bit, pushed and pushed, it continued to get stuck. took my car to the dealer 4 times now and problem still exist. they put a new switch in on 9/28/12. drove my car that night, it was raining, wipers started doing the same thing again. took it back on 10/1/12. on that date driving to work, it stuck again. by the time i got to dealer, it was working properly. on 10/2/12, the same thing happened. dealer cannot find out why this is happening and states they cannot do anything unless they see what the wipers are doing as if they haven't already seen it before. the day i took it there, the wipers started doing all kind of crazy things so they know exactly what the wipers were already doing.

i had just gotten onto the freeway when i noticed things flying off the back of my car. i wasn't sure what it was so i opened my sunroof slider a little and saw that my sunroof had shattered. i did not go under an underpass so i cannot be sure what happened. all i know is it cost me $500 deductible to get it fixed. my car is only 3 months old, so that doesn't seem right. i have had 4 cars with sunroofs and never had anything like this happen. please advise me as to my options. i'm afraid to drive it now!

driving on the pa. turnpike at 65 mph, hit a small pot hole and the back left tire blew. i needed to be towed because the car air pump did not work. this was the second flat in one month. the first was due to hitting a curb at 2mph which punctured the side wall of the tire which had to be replaced.

the daytime running light drl system on this car is flawed. a proper drl system requires no user action to activate and only illuminates the lower beam lights. on my 2013 elantra, you have to turn the lighting stalk to the parking lamp position in order to activate them and when you do, the low beams and all 4 parking lamps illuminate. this is not how it is supposed to work. also my battery ran down unexpectedly and the tow driver said it strains the battery when you leave the stalk in an "on" position.

the accident happened while i was driving on the freeway with light traffic traveling around 60 mph. it first began when i felt an unbalance of the front right tire. the car suddenly veered to the right regardless of my efforts to maintain control. my car fishtailed for a moments and almost caused me to crash into another car. i had no control of the car when my car crashed into the wall that lined the right side of the freeway. after visually inspecting the wheel, it appeared that the front right rim was cut in a half vertically and all around. it was cut in a near-perfect straight line - similar to what a opened can looks like. the tire remained fully intact without any damage. the body shop mechanics told us that they have never seen the rim cut like that before and said the only explanation would be a defect in the rim. we have pictures and can provide them upon request. the body shop mechanics and insurance adjusters are all clueless to how and why this occurred. please open an investigation to help us determine the cause. the total estimate of the costs have estimated to be around $14000.

had been hearing a grinding noise when braking especially when it would rain out and on the advice made an appt to take it to the dealer. on the way to the dealer the brakes gave out and my car hit into my husbands car that was driving in front of me to the dealer so he could drive me home. at first they said there was nothing wrong withthe brakes i insisted they keep it overnight and theysaid they would drive it when the car was cold. thankfully it rained hard that night and even though they waited til the afternoon to drive it they were still able to hear the grinding although not nearly as loud as it would have been if they drove it in the morning. they said the rotors were building up corrosion so they would replace the brake pads. after researching this it seems to be a pretty common problem i intend to insist tomorrow they change the rotors too but the fact still remains that there is now extensive damage to the front end of my car. this is a new car and this should not be happening just 2 days prior my husband lost the brakes for a few seconds this is a potentially very hazardous situation.

i was traveling on interstate when the tire pressure sensor indicate there was a problem with the tire. i pulled over and front passenger tire was extremely low. i used the air pump and filled tire. i exited the interstate and drove to the nearest tire repair shop. all 4 tires were below 32 psi. a digital reading indicated the tires range from 13 to 19 psi. i had the tires filled. on 12-17-2012 same problem. tire sensor indicated there was a problem. i drove to mechanic and had tires check. all four tires were inspected and no damage or punctures were founded. all four tires were filled with air. on 12-29-12, tire pressure sensor came on. i drove to mechanic all four tire were check. all four tires were low (range of 12 to 21 psi). tires were filled to 32 psi. on 1-8-2013, sensor came on again. tire were check and all four tires were low (tire ranged from 15 to 22). all four tires were filled to 32 psi. on 1-21-13, tire pressure sensor light came on again. all four tires check and needed air. digital reading indicated the tire range from 9 to 15 psi. tires were filled back to 32 psi.

2013 hyundai elantra. consumer writes in regards to problems with vehicle tires. *smd the consumer stated snow compacted in the wheel wells and in the tire rims, which resulted in the vehicle vibrating, as if the tires were not balanced. the dealer recommended replacing the tires and rims with 15 inch wheels and rims at a cost of $800. the consumer has since traded the vehicle.

there is an extremely loud grinding noise that keeps coming from my brakes. i was pulling up to a mailbox and i was on my cellphone and someone asked me what that noise was as it was so loud they could hear it! i brought it to the dealership and they said there was a little bit of rust on the rotor!! i just had the 7500 mile check up and got all green checks but 10 days later the grinding is even louder than before. i dread even putting on my brakes and i am not confident if people jump out in front of me that they will respond properly. i purchased this car brand new and went on to carcomplaints.com and there are a lot of people saying the same things with as low as 20 miles on the car. something is definitely wrong here. this is my fifth brand new car in the last ten years so i know this is not something that should be going on.

i was driving in very light snow in my 2013 hyundai elantra on highway 12 n44.44043 and w79.12958, close to beaverton, ontario going traveling north nearest exit concession 7 thorah around 8 pm on the 11th feb. 2013 and the car started to fishtail at a very low speed of about 40 kilometer per hour. i just parked my car on the shoulder and called caa, i was terrified to go any further. i only have 2472 kilometers on the speedometer! it doesn't seem like a very safe car. by the way, i also have snow tires on my car.

driving along at 40mph there was a loud explosion. the panoramic sunroof exploded. stress crack along its entire perimeter, shattering glass, and creating a convex crack in the middle of the glass. this is the static-non-movable part of the sunroof and was closed at the time. glass fragments entered interior of vehicle. i have brought this to the attention of local dealership and hyundai consumer affairs. i have also noted there is a recall with same issue of the hyundai veloster and others have the same experience with the elantra as documented on your website. this has been documented when both vehicles described have been moving or parked. obviously the glass is of fault or there is a flaw in the design putting the glass under stress. i do not feel safe driving the vehicle and expect hyundai to offer an engineered solution as i am of the same discipline. i have photographs documenting the incident. dealership is prepared to replace glass. however, i worry of future incidents that could create an accident resulting in a vehicle crash or personal injury from flying glass.

2013 hyundai elantra. consumer writes in regards to dealership fraudulent tactics and wants dealership to purchase vehicle back. *smd the consumer stated he never test drove the vehicle and the purchase was made strictly on the claim of the outstanding gas mileage that was posted on the sticker on the window which read 34 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. the consumer stated after making the deal, the general manager informed him that hyundai was having problem with the vehicle mileage actually living up to the advertised figures. the consumer contacted the dealer and informed them, the vehicle was only getting an overall mileage of 26 mpg. the dealer drove the vehicle a 150 miles, and they claimed the vehicle was getting 34 mpg. the consumer documented the all the gas mileage, and the best was 28 mpg and the worst was 25 mpg. the consumer also noticed the window sticker was gone when he arrived home. after requesting a new sticker for over six weeks, the dealer finally gave him a sticker. however, the gas mileage was different on the sticker.

we got in the car and as we drove down the street we noticed the rear window was broken. the entire window had cracks running through it. there were no indentations in the glass or scratches on the vehicle as one would expect if someone or something had impacted the vehicle. this was confirmed by the police department.

i recently purchased a new hyundai elantra gls. one of the features on the sticker claims that there are daytime running lights. the switch that turns on/off the headlights is also the "drl off/on" switch. i contacted hyundai via email and they refer me to the owners manual. in the state of georgia its illegal to drive with the parking lights on during the day (unless it's raining or visibility is hundred. i believe it may be illegal in other states also. these are not daytime running lights. the sticker on the car may claim it has daytime running lights, but its miss leading and it seems as a lie.

car claims it has daytime running lights, yet it really doesn't. you have to turn on the parking lights for the drl to actually come on. so then you have the parking lights on front, rear taillights as well as the drl. this is a safety issue, i believe some states have laws against running parking lights on clear days? other cars i have own, the drl comes on automatically when driving. called hyundai and dealership, got the brush off as that is just the way it is. actually after some research i found that a software change made in mid 2012 is what did this issue. should be a recall! it is also a mis-leading sales, what next, must roll window down for the a/c to come on?

i bought my 2013 elantra on 7/17/12 from orlando hyundai. on 8/4/12 while driving on i-95, the tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) light began to flash. i immediately pulled into the nearest tire shop and had the tire pressure checked on all 4 tires and they were all fine. the mechanic suggested i have my dealership take a look and possibly have them reset the sensors. upon my arrival home, i took my car to the dealership and they were unable to provide a reason for the sensors going off. the issue persisted for several months causing me to spend countless hours at the dealership. they even went as far as to keep my car for over a week, drive it several miles and replace the entire system including all four tire sensors. despite this, the tpms light still flashes. they have attempted to convince me that usb and aux cords in my car (used with my phone) are causing a signal interference with the sensors. in my opinion that is a bogus excuse. the car should not have the features if they are unable to coexist. the dealership has also attempted to reassure me that nothing is wrong with the car and it is safe to drive even while the tpms light is flashing. i do not believe this either as i constantly have a safety feature alerting me to believe otherwise. i have told the dealership and hyundai headquarters that i believe this car is a lemon on several occasions. they informed me that a car is only a lemon after having the same issue fixed 3 times. thus far i have had my tpms fixed twice. i do not feel safe at all driving this car with dysfunctional features.

i just bought the 2013 limited hyundai elantra over the easter weekend, on 3/31/13. two days after buying it, i noticed the light in the dash showing whether the headlights were on or not was no longer working, but i put it up to the fact i was driving at dawn/dusk and they were probably not "on" even though the driving lights were on and showing as "on". however on 4/6/13 when driving at 10pm at night with the headlights most certainly "on" the indicator light still did not come on.

this is concerning the same vehicle as in my previous complaint: 10507443. while driving into work on 4/8/13, i put the front and rear defoggers on. later when i went to switch them off, they wouldn't. i thought maybe there was a timer. i waited five minutes and then was able to switch off the rear defogger. i still was unable to switch off the front. i pushed all the bottoms to switch the air position and even turned the entire a/c-heating system off -the defogger stuck "on" and would not shut off until i shut everything down. i have reported both this and the previous incident to the dealer i bought the car from, and am hoping to schedule maintenance within the week.

car is advertised as having daytime running lights (drl's). the drl's do not operate normally on my 2013 hyundai elantra coupe as they are not on "automatically" when driving. if the light stalk is in the off position the drl's are off. when i turn the drl's on, the parking lights (amber side lights and the rear tail lights) are turned on as well. in addition to it being illegal in some states to drive with parking lights on this setup makes my brake lights less noticeable during the day (when i do brake) as they are already lit up. also, when turning the drl's on, the interior gauge lights are automatically dimmed which is a feature for night driving, not daytime driving with drl's.

i own a 2013 hyundai elantra limited. the standard tires that came with the car upon purchase were continental tires conti pro size 215/45/17. three tires have developed bulges on the sidewall. i replaced the front right tire once through my hyundai dealership 6 months ago - mileage was around 5,000 miles. the dealership blamed the failure on potholes/impact and i had the tire replaced at my own expense. the front right tire has again developed a bulge in addition to the back right tire also developing a bulge. i have not had any abnormal impact with curbs or potholes to cause such damage and believe there is a systemic problem with the engineering of the car or with the manufacturing of the tires. i shared my concerns with the hyundai customer care national call-in and a case report was created. the local dealership has also been made aware of the problems and the tire manufacturer as well. the car has 15,000 miles and should not have this this type of tire failure. i'm concerned for my safety - the tires could blow at high speeds, especially if there is another problem that i am not aware of. neither the car manufacturer, the local dealership or the tire company were willing to provide assistance.

i own a 2013 hyundai elantra with approximately 9000 miles on it as of may 2013. in january i had the car sitting outside overnight, and when i went to drive it the next morning i noticed a grinding sound coming from the brakes. i stopped and got out to notice all four rotors were rusted. i immediately brought it to the dealer, and after inspection they said all four rotors were severely rusted. they machine shopped the rotors down so they would make a noise or make the car pulsate while stopping. the first week of may i left the car sit outside over the entire weekend. when i left for work monday morning i noticed the same problem. the car was pulsating and making a grinding sound again. i called the dealer and explained the previous situation. they said that this type of situation happens if the car is left in moisture overnight. i told them that is ridiculous since many people don't have the luxury of a garage. they told me to bring it in the shop again to take a look at it. i am now waiting till the next appointment to bring the car in. i have a 2012 hyundai tucson that sits outside more than this car and i have never had a problem with the brakes before!

i purchased a 2013 hyundai elantra se coupe on 13 april 2013 (6300 miles). on 9 may 2013 (7000 miles) i entered car to start it and battery completely dead. called hyundai roadside assistance and they sent someone to jump it. car started and took it to motorworld wilkes-barre where i had purchased car. they turned car off and waited 5 hours. car started again and the man in service told me that he could not do anything since the battery was fine and he didn't see any issue. if i wanted battery or sensors replaced, i would have to pay out of pocket for it. i was told if it happened again, have it towed in without letting it be jump started. only diagnostic done was check of battery which read as no problem. on 26 may 2013, (7400 miles) again i went out to start car and again it would not start. as i could not miss work and it was memorial day with service dept at dealership closed, had car jump started and went to dealership on my lunch break. while there, salesman who sold me car had me turn off the automatic setting for headlamps. when i did that, it also caused the steering wheel controls for blue tooth and radio control to no longer function. i was told there was recall on brake stop switch? that was not apparently corrected before selling me the car. the car has electrical wiring issues. it doesn't take an electrical engineer to know that the steering wheel controls should not be run through the headlamps switch and that the headlamps switch is faulty when it is causing a drain of battery when it is set to shut off lamps when ignition turned off. tomorrow the 27 may 2013, i will be back at dealership demanding this is repaired or they replace the car as i have owned it approximately 6 weeks and have had this issue 2 times with 7400 total miles on car.

i purchased the car in march, it was my first time buying a new car. within the first couple of days after buying the car i noticed a few rattling and clanking noises. i believed this to be the cars moving parts, and didn't think much of it at the time, especially since i was used to driving used cars that sounded worse. after a few weeks, i noticed that the noises where noticeably louder, along with a loud knocking noise when i turned the steering wheel. the dealership that i purchased the car from (universal hyundai in orlando) was booked up so i made an appointment at orlando hyundai. shortly after bringing my car in, and having the service department look at the car, i was told that the car was sold to me defective, that "the left and right inner tire rods and lock nuts were loose, threads were damaged, and the lock nuts were left loose from the factory". the service manager explained to me that this could have easily caused an accident, and that "one tire would've went one way and the other tire would've went the other way, causing your car to come to a sudden halt". this might have caused a serious accident, and knowing that i was driving that car on the highway, taking trips with my family and children, while the car was defective was very scary and upsetting. i was very excited about purchasing a new car, and hoped that i would not have to deal with these kinds of problems. i am extremely disappointed and want absolutely nothing to do with hyundai. i have the statement from the service department stating that the factory made a mistake and i plan on filing a complaint through hyundai and the national highway safety administration.

vehicle sudden acceleration after pressing brakes and trying to park: as i was turning into a parking space (less than 5 mph), in front of a grocery store to park the car, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, hit a lighting pole and completely damaged the front of the car. pressing the brakes even harder could not stop the car. the car finally came to a halt as it hit the pole (thankfully no one was injured). the air bag did not come on, my head and neck hit the brakes. thankfully, i was not injured and no one else was either. brakes completely failed, the manufacturer was made aware of it but could not find anything defective in the car. this is very scary.

constantly adjusting steering to keep car on the road, belief problem with front end, took car back to dealer on the 18th of june, the results told to me by dealer was that one tire had 60psi in one of the tire, air pressure was adjusted in each tire, but car still has the problem. looking at the history of hyundai it seems that their sonatas and elantras have had this problem for at least 2 years, putting these death traps on the road.

i parked my vehicle in a shopping center in a space with a very slight incline. (3-4 degree). i shut off the engine, but was distracted and the car was left in drive. this vehicle has a remote lock/unlock and start/stop key. the key dropped from my pocket and onto the drivers seat and as i exited the vehicle it started to roll backwards. i ran to the back to prevent it rolling into another vehicle and a car coming toward me saw i was in trouble and the driver got out and ran to my front door and quickly put the car in park. i think this is a very dangerous situation that the car could roll with the engine off and the car in drive. the remote key having dropped on the seat made it difficult to re-enter the closed door without pushing the buttons to unlock and if it hadn't been for help from another driver the car would have crashed. i am a fit 73 year old, but an older driver would easily panic. the car should not be able to roll with the engine off and the remote key system needs to be reviewed.

vehicle purchased 05.14.2013 noticed from day one that steering wasn't right, thought it would take time to get use to. on 06.12.2013 noticed steering wheel was off center and to the left and car pulled to the right. took it into dealership on 06.14.2013. at first they attempted to tell me nothing was wrong then i took them for a ride. it was then agreed that the steering wheel was off center and car was pulling to the right. i was then told no repair was available. i contacted hyundai inc. 06.18.2013, they in turn contacted the dealership which withheld the information that they had agreed there was a non repairable problem with my car. i then contacted the dealership and spoke with the person that with held information and he stated he did so because he was not asked. he is also claiming the shop foreman is in school to correct the problem and i am to take my car in on 06.24.2013 for the repair which will take approximately 2 hours. the problem is getting worse by the day. more after the attempted repair is made.

purchased car from lynne's in bloomfield, nj on the 25th of march 2013 from [xxx]. noticed the steering when i got on the highway that night, but assumed it was a break in period for me to get use to the car, well one month later i was constantly adjusting the steering wheel to get the car to stay in the lane. i spoke to service department manager ([xxx]) about this problem, and was told to bring the car in for them to look at it, earliest date june 6th , i requested a loaner car because once they had the car i had no way of getting to work, i called two days prior to my service date to confirm that there would be a loaner available, i was told if that was the arrangement made on my set up date then the loaner would be there. one day prior to me going to service with the car, i received a call from lynnes service department that no loaner was available, no reason why, it just was not available. i took the car to sansone hyundai on the 18th, my right hand was starting to hurt from holding the steering wheel so tight to keep control of the car. i received a call from the service department ([xxx]) that the car had 60psi on one of the tires, air was checked and adjusted on all the tires and was told to give it a try now? no change, i called [xxx] (customer service) and told him the problems i was having with the car, he recommended i come back in on the 24th of june, dropped off the car, and received a call that afternoon that he ([xxx]) drove the car and found no problems, and maybe this was not the car for me, and that if i had bought the car from his dealership, he might have been able to move me into another car. i've been driving all types of vehicles for over 30 plus years, some with bad alignments and never have i driven anything like this before, it?s a death trap! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

pulled over to shoulder on florida turnpike to adjust seat belt and the car started a very rough idling and would not engage in drive. reported it to dealer and hyundai motor america and following was their reply: -dealer: this is a characteristic of these vehicles that they don't know how to correct -hyundai: they are aware of the problem and are working to resolve it. in the meantime i am driving a car that is not reliable to me from a safety standpoint and two dealers in miami, doral and lehman hyundai service managers have told me that there is nothing they can do until the factory tells them how to correct the issue, your assistance will be very much appreciated.

ran out of gas despite the gauge showing 42 miles left (about 1.5 gallons). walked to a station and got a gas can; put a couple of gallons in, started the car, and the meter started dropping dramatically, going from 112 miles remaining to 104 to 98... all the way down to 82 miles remaining before i even started driving. drove about a quarter mile, and it fell another 3 miles. don't know yet if the car if the problem is with fuel injection, the gauge, or some issue with the tank itself (air/water leaking in or gas leaking out, etc.). problem occurred the day after bringing the car into the shop for a separate problem. my car is 6 weeks old, and i have broken down two days in a row just driving to work.

when i drove the new car off the lot it began pulling to the right, but since we bought it late on a friday afternoon i couldn't do anything until the following day. the passenger air bag light also came on (i'm referring to the light by the tachometer, not the one below the radio). bluelink performed an inspection remotely & said to take the car to the dealership asap. the following day we took the car back to the dealership & they said they needed to keep the car until monday, but we were moving to a different city therefore we would have to take the car to a dealership in our new city instead. i told the story to the service dept, left the car there at the new dealership, 2 days later i came back to get it. the air bag issue was fixed but not the pulling to the right. the alignment specialist came with me to test it, realized that it was still pulling, we went back to the dealership & switched the two front tires & went again for another test. the specialist realized that the car was now pulling to the left. we test drove the car over 8 times, they said alignment was good & only attempted to rotate the tires multiple times, car still pulled. i took the car to a different dealership, they agreed the car was pulling but wouldn't do anything because another dealership had already inspected it & i would have to pay even though the car was barely two wks old! i went back to the previous dealership, we tested it again with the service manager. they tried to convince me there was nothing wrong, when clearly the car still pulls strongly to the right. i had to escalate the problem to hyundai usa as the dealership wouldn't do anything further. after reading the owners manual, it clearly states that the power steering should be checked if the car is in alignment, yet pulling to one side. the dealership never recommended this, nor did any testing of the steering.

was about 2 tenths of a mile from a stop sign. as i was beginning to make my approach, the car accelerated, lurched forward and sped across a four lane highway before i could react. the car was t-boned on the passengers side. the impact straightened my vehicles trajectory from 90 degrees to about 30 to 45 degrees. i then impacted a guardrail with a somewhat nearly head-on angle. after i went through the guardrail i then impacted a tree head-on which brought the vehicle to a stop. my passenger's side curtain air bags deployed but the front (dash) air bags did not. my passenger received a broken collar bone, fractured rib, scalp lacerations (stitches), a concussion and multiple bruises from head to toe.

i was at the local mall and i left to go to a nearby kohls, not even a mile away. i noticed that the lowtire indicator had come on and parked the car in kohls parking lot. a couple noticed me struggling with the equipped air pump and came to help. the tire wouldn't hold air and we tried a can of fix-a-flat. it didn't help either and we noticed that there was a small hole in the tire which had apparently blown out. i stopped at a nearby walmart and had to purchase a tire to get home. my husband and i stopped at the dealership early the next morning to speak to our salesman who immediately ushered us to the service manager who said " no" no problems with tires that we know sorry. the whole conversation and their customer service took about 2 minutes. i truly believe that there was an issue with the tire but they were reluctant to even discuss it. the car has less than 1200 miles. i guess it was easier to be friendly when selling than servicing.

i heard an explosion and started feeling something falling down on me as i was driving. i looked up to see the sunroof part of my panoramic roof had shattered and shards of glass were falling down on me. this was in the morning, nothing above me or around me, no trucks.. just a random break. i called the dealership and was told to contact my insurance. i looked online and see there have been many issues with the sunroofs doing the same thing on different models. the dealership is ordering the replacement right now.

the 2011 through 2013 elantra's have this same inherent issue in which the rear of the car is not engineered to maintain a straight line or track properly over bumps and dips in the road. i have taken my 2013 elantra limited to mccarthy blue springs hyundai and called hyundai customer service and requested contact by their district service manager over the past year but it has been over 2 months and no response from the district service manager (today is 8-27-2013). the service department knows this is an issue but say its the way the car is made and there's nothing they can do about it. the problem is an issue in turns and can kick the car out of line in wet, snowy or icy conditions so much that the vehicle stability assist must intervene. these are not conditions that my other car has an issue with or any car that i've owned in the past that did not have vsa. the issue is not due to the rear end of the car being light due to not having a spare tire as some have been told, this issue is purely the fault of hyundai and may even involve the electric power steering not being properly tuned to maintain a straight line as the wheel will abruptly return to a position far left of center. i have spoken with other 2011 to 2013 elantra owners and they have the same complaints and i have driven other cars and they exhibit the same issue. its long overdue for a recall nhtsa.

i find the lack of a spare or doughnut, not provided on this model to be a absolute accident and safety issue waiting to happen. most flats today because of so much debris on our roads cause most tires to inccur damage unrepairable with a areosol can.as far as having road service solving and replacing the tire there are so many different senarios that affect the repair or replacement and towing of the vehicle consequently putting the driver and his passengers in harms way. these type breakdowns on busy highways and less traveled routes only expose the drivers and passengers to additional safety issues. if this unit had a doughnut spare it could be installed and on the vechile as soon and as fast as road service arrives. issues on roads less traveled on holidays,weekends,and late and very early hours ,and the need to find a shop to purchase a tire and a place to spend the night become a larger issue than the flat tire. as far as not providing a spare because it eliminates weight and will increase mpgs is a bogus premise on the part of auto makers. unfortunately i believe we will see injurys and sadly some deaths resulting because of the absence of a spare or doughnut. these sad circumstances will result in law suits and class-action litigation. *js

i purchased a new 2013 elantra gt in may of this year. a week after taking it home the tire pressure light went off while driving. we pulled over & immediately blue link sent an alert telling me a malfunction in my tpms was found & to take the car to service asap. took it to the dealership & was told that is was a simple learning failure. reset code & was sent on my way. the next week the car did the same thing with the tpms. back to the dealer it went. had it scanned again. was told nothing was wrong & they cleared the codes thru blue link. i was then told to just ignore it & it should be ok. mostly it is just electronically interference. i parked the car & used my husbands car for a while. i start using my car & going down 295 it happened again. pulled over & blue link sent the alert again. called the dealership & made an appointment. i was told that they had a certified hyundai professional technician that was going to look my car over. after 4 hrs of waiting i was given a paper asking me not to use electronics in the car as this was causing my tpms issue. they paper was dated march 2007. really? at that point i was frustrated so i called hyundai corp office. after an hr conversation i was told to take it to another dealership for service. so that friday off the car went to another dealership. at the dealership i was told that the car needed an alignment bad & that my tires were over inflated by 8lbs each. so 3 hrs & a lot of patience i was told the car was all set. 20 mins after leaving the dealership the tpms light goes off again with the blue link alert to service the car asap. the following day back to the dealership again. this trip i was told i needed a sensor changed. 3 hrs later i leave & half way home tpms again. that's 5 times no repair. now they can't provide me a loaner but want to keep the car overnight. car has been parked for 2 weeks waiting. *jb

i recently lease the above vehicle from local dealer universal hyundai in orlando. after driving a short distance i realized that the passenger airbag light was lit (meaning off) even though my wife was in it. i contacted the dealership who had me speak to a service advisor (scott). he told me that i should buy a pillow since my wife was only about 103 pounds in weight, and that there were no adjustments which could be made to the seat. this did not make sense to me so i continued to my sales rep(george spencer). he had the service manager (nestor dias) contact me and he basically told me that under 150 pounds the airbag won't deploy. if i had realized this up front, i would never have leased the elantra. now, the airbag light goes on and off when it chooses. i love my wife and am truly concerned about her safety. please advise. car wanders on roadway, returned car to two different dealers three times, the first dealer told me there was 60psi in one tire, the tires were adjusted and was told that this would fix the problem, it did not. the second time i took the car in i was told that there was nothing wrong with the car and it was within specs, and that i may be having problems adjusting to the electronic steering, and that if i had bought the car from his dealership that he would work something out with me. after talking to the company about this problem, i had them make the last arrangement to get the car in to the original dealer where i was told once again that there was no problem with the car. i'm 54 years old, and have driven many cars, and this one is a nightmare to drive, can you help?

on 8/11/13 the 2013 hyundai elantra that was purchased 6/3/13 at the fred beans dealership in doyelstown, pa. unintentionally accelerated and crashed into a concrete wall in the parking lot at king of prussia mall in king of prussia pa. the car was turning into a parking space and when the gas petal was applied the car accelerated full speed into the wall. this is the second time this has happen to a car that was only 9 weeks old. it had happened in our driveway 4 weeks prior to the collision on 8/11/13, but the car was brought under control and we assumed it was just not being familiar with a new car. the car was immediately towed to the dealerships body shop for inspection and a claim was opened with hyundai customer assurance. the car was inspected by an independent inspector several weeks later and after 6 week we have received a letter stating that there was no failure on the manufacturers part and there was nothing they could do. i have requested testing results and documentation from hyundai and i was told it was classified, so i asked for a list of tests performed and it cannot be given to us. we have received several letter from hyundai, none of which had a persons last name or any name at all. i have had the car's body work repaired and have tried to trade the car into the dealership for another new car but the dealership will require another substantial down payment which makes this option unfeasible. the dealership has not had any correspondence with the manufacturer and has requested i formally ask for some monetary relief towards the new car replacement. i have made several requests and have gotten a final "no" decision from hyundai. the car has and still sits at the dealership and i will not allow my daughter to drive an unsafe an undocumented car. please let me know how to proceed.

i purchased this vehicle based on the gas mileage rating and the 5 star safety rating. i traded a 2012 vw passat se for the elantra gt. the elantra cost $5,000 less, but the insurance is $600 more annually. the vw was rated 31 mpg highway, but averaged 33+ mpg highway: the elantra was rated at 37 mpg highway, but at 4 different speeds (resetting the indicator between speeds), the best mileage is 32 mpg. to make matters worse, the car had to be refueled at 400 miles because of the small gas tank. not touting the vw, but i drove 540 between fillups. i am seeing a lot of hyundai's on the road, but this car is a big disappointment. the nhtsa has a 5 star safety rating, so why does my insurance cost more? how can the government allow a 37 mpg rating on a car that gets at best 32 mpg on the highway?

the day time running lights on my new 2013 elantra do not work properly. the lights do not come on automatically. the owner's manual doesn't provide correct information on how this feature works. the only way to have day time running lights is to turn on the parking lights, which also means the tail lights and the dash lights come on. how can a dealer claim the day time running light feature is included when it truly isn't. this is a dangerous situation and no way are these truly day time running lights. why no recall on this problem??

i was on my way to work, when i noticed there was a new warning on my dashboard and so when looking up what it means in my book, it pertains to my brakes!! when i called the dealer to schedule an appt about another issue i am having with the car, i told her about this one too. she said we need to get you in asap to have it looked at. i could tell by her tone, this was not a good thing. i expressed to her that i have a (19 mo old), of which i cannot have any major defaults with my car, especially when driving with her in it- which is all the time! i asked her if this was in conjunction with my brakes making a grinding noise and she said she didn't know. i told her i have only had the (new off the lot) for a year or more and have had a string of issues. i am not impressed to say the least!! this is minor in comparison to some, but the upholstery on my side on the right (floor board) has completely torn apart. it almost looks like someone had cut it, like when i brought my car in the last time to get worked on from this dealer. she assured me they would never cut the floor and i said what happened to it then and she said a poor job when made by hyundai. granted, they are going to replace it, but now i have a more important issue to attend to- my brakes. bad upholstery is not going to put me or my daughter in danger, but bad brakes will! when i asked the dealer if any of my current and past issues with this car is normal, she said to be honest- no it is not! if i have to contact hyundai, i will and i will not give up until my issues have been resolved.

when the air conditioner is on and it is humid outside, the side windows fog up on the outside. there is no way to clear up the fog on the outside of the windows. in previous cars, there was a brush in the window well and all you had to do was lower the window and raise it and the fog would be removed. i have contacted hyundai three times and they refer me to my local dealer. each time the dealer acknowledges the problem and says there is no solution that they can provide. please help me convince hyundai to put a brush in the window well.

the brakes make horrible creaking and grinding noises when wet. sometimes it will even cause the car to shake. i have contacted hyundai several times and they do not take this serious. i have taken it to the dealership several times and they have not been able to fix it. i just took it in last week and they even tried to get me to pay 100 for a cleaning of the brake components, i feel i should not have to pay to fix a problem we have had since we bought the car new and have had it in several times and they have not been able to fix it. i am not confident driving the car now and clearly no one would want it buy it off us when it makes such horrible noises. i also believe it cannot be safe and will cause premature failure of the brake calipers and / or possible the ball joints or front steering suspension. i think they have a faulty design in the brake hydraulics and the differential pressures between the front and rear brakes are not right.

noticed when i test drove this vehicle in april 2013 when it hit small bumps in the road it seemed unsteady in the back. thought it was just the dynamics of a new vehicle i would get used to. i'm used to driving dynamics of small vehicles. there have been a few times where i've been driving at speeds between 20-70mph when i hit a bump on a straight/curved road and vehicle would shake wildly and feel like it was out of control. today we have snow covered/slushy roads and i've been particularly cautious. at ~60mph on i70 (which was clear and plowed), i moved to the passing lane to go around a slower vehicle before a creek bridge. when i hit the edge of the bridge i completed the maneuver, but a small lip on the section of bridge meeting the road caused the vehicle to fishtail and almost hit the vehicle next to me. i was fighting for control of the vehicle for 300 feet, which is worse than i have ever experienced in this vehicle, hence the reason i wrote this complaint. it felt like another experience i had in a fiat with a bent rear axle, every time it would hop over a bump it would wobble in the back end and yet it felt slightly different because i couldn't correct it quickly when the car should have settled. from reading other people's complaints, it seems plausible that the problem with the elantra may in fact be in the front end with the power steering auto-correct to center. that is what it felt like i was fighting those 300 feet, not the dynamics of the four wheels not being square on the road, but instead like as if the car was fighting me. something needs to be done because i could have lost control with kids in the car. judging from other people's experiences with their dealers on the issue, what is the point if they're just going to give us the run-around and inconvenience us even more by withholding our vehicles and then giving them back without a fix?

my hyundai came with kumho tires. just a little over a month old and one of the tires is defective. dealer and hyundai say it is not their problem, call the manufacturer. tire has a ping pong ball size buldge. manufacturer is rude and says sorry but we don't care. sears says that all the other manufacturers they deal with (goodyear, michelin, etc) would cover but they always have problems with this company. they have many unhappy costumers but don't seem to care. i suggest hyundai think about the fact that a supplier with this attitude also reflects badly on them.

the car was purchased late 12/2012. between this date and late 11/2013 there have been 9 instances of unintended acceleration. 1.backing out of parking lot at store 1/1/2013car accelerated and jumped forward. 2.in 2/2013, entering our homes garage, while traveling about 2mph, the car suddenly accelerated and jumped forward. 3.in 5/2013, while backing out of garage when the car accelerated and jumped forward. 4.around 9/2013, we were moving slowly,�less than 10 mpg- and turning into a parking spot when the car accelerated and jumped forward. 5.around 10/6/2013 we were pulling into our sons driveway. we were moving slowly when the car accelerated and jumped forward. the vehicle stopped its forward movement when it hit a decorative stone column. repairs were approx. $1750 to repair. 6.later in 10/2013, we were slowing down as we approached a stop sign the car unintentionally accelerated and jumped forward. 7.in 11/2013, we experienced a similar event as in #6 while approaching a stop sign. 8.later in 11/2013, we were backing out of garage when the car unintentionally accelerated and jumped forward. 9.again in 11/2013 we were accelerating as we were entering the interstate when the car accelerated very rapidly even after removing the driver's foot from the gas pedal. the dealership cannot replicate the problem. they have evaluated with engineers; driven with the main driver to insure it is being driven correctly.

when i was sideswiped and then he drove down the whole left side of my car the airbags did not go off. i went up a some hill and hit cable box and still no airbags my back door was on the street afterwards. the front drivers door was pushed in about 3-5 inches and still not airbags they say he did not hit me in the right spot. some of the front and rear bumper is missing to. i am not sure where he needed to hit me if we have 6 airbags that should go off then why no airbags . i have seen less damage to a car and there airbags go off. i have own hyundai's for over 14 years and this car sucks . i will never pay again my car is totaled so i am still confused at where my airbags need to be hit to go off.

two issues: (1) i purchased the vehicle on may 26, 2013. i found out that the gov. had issued a recall for the elantra models built from 11-12-2010 through 3-5-2013. my car was assembled on feb, 22, 2013. i was never told about this at time of purchase and have never received any notification from hyundai motor america. the dealers are not responsive. (2) the "auto-dimming rearview mirror with homelink & compass" rarely functions. real problem is that mirror image and headlights are same intensity/ clarity whether unit is turned on or off--very dangerous at night. the dealer i purchased car from and another dealer refused to investigate.

i purchased this car at the end of november brand new. about a month ago the warning esc light came on my dashboard and would not turn off. during this time i had minor incidents of the esc turning on for no reason (dry roads). but on this monday i experienced a major incident with esc turning on while i was traveling at 50 mph down a highway (dry roads). all four wheels started braking and i was dragged across the highway and just missing a telephone poll. i was lucky to get the car under control and stopped with me and the car intact. i then called the hyundai roadside assistance to have the car towed back to the dealership where i bought it.

during merge onto a major dallas tollway, traffic became stopped in the right lane and upon applying a hard brake of my car, the anti-lock brakes failed to engage, the seatbelt did not lock, my car felt as though it was accelerating even though i was pressing the brake pad hard. i hit the car in front of me once and then again before my car stopped, still running. my car sustained $8500 in damage to the front end, but the air bag did not even deploy. i have owned it for 15 months and have not had an issue of this nature in the past, however i am now concerned of the safety of this vehicle.

got a hyundai 2013 elantra gt in early nov. 2013 with the style & tech package which has the panoramic sunroof. the car is barely 3 months old. driving to work on 288 south fway when i suddenly heard a boom, at first i thought it was another car that had blown its tire but then i heard the sunroof cover above my head fluttering. pulled over just as a f350 truck parked in front of me, driver comes out and tells me i cracked his windshield, i see that the front section of my sunroof is gone. the driver says he was behind me and saw my sunroof implode and a huge piece of the glass hit his windshield and shattered. asked him if he saw anything hit my roof and he said no. driver helped me clean up a lot of the broken glass that was still on my roof. he also pointed out the damage to the paint on the rear section above the led brake lights. we exchanged information & i decided to drive to the dealer since it was not far off. on the way a lot of the broken glass started falling inside the car. at the dealership they all said they had never heard or seen anything like this happen before. since they did not have the facilities to repair the damage they referred me to another dealership where i arranged for the car to be towed. told the service dept what happened and said they would investigate. their verdict is that a rock or something hit it to cause the damage. they will replace the sunroof out of courtesy but not cover for a rental car despite a warranty. service mgr says he can do one and not both. not to mention they would not retouch the paint damage. my insurance will not cover because their investigation points to a manufacturing defect since this has happened before. i am really concerned about this incident happening again which could result in an accident or serious injuries. worried about the integrity of the sunroof.

i was driving down the interstate at about 68mph all of a sudden i heard a large boom. pulled over to see what happened and notice that my moonroof/sunroof had shattered into a million pieces. the intriguing part was that i was alone with no cars around when the incident happened. the weather was cold, but not extreme the temperature was around 24 degrees.

the tire blew out the side wall. now there are bubbles appearing on the other tires. i contacted continental tire. was told to take it to a continental tire dealer and give them file # [xxx]. i went to discount tire and they said continental tire would cover 50% of the two tires to be replaced, file # [xxx]. i believe that the tires are defective. i am afraid that the other 2 factory tires are going to do the same thing. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

i have a brand new hyundai elantra gt with 17" wheels. it has about 3200 miles on it. i know that i recently hit a pothole on the highway, but nothing that i thought was very serious. i discovered a bubble on my left front tire shortly thereafter and ordered a brand new nexen 215/45r17, which is the brand the car came with. when the shop installed the tire, they discovered that my other front tire also had a smaller bubble on it. i am now getting that replaced as well. there are discussion forums online detailing case after case of elantras with 17" wheels having bubbles, blow-outs on the highways etc. here's one for example: http://www.cars.com/hyundai/elantra-gt/2013/consumer-reviews guess a few people will have to die before anything is done but hoping that isn't true.

this car is equipped with daytime running lights, but there is no way to turn them on without also turning on the parking lights. when the daytime running lights and parking lights are illuminated, the taillights are on and the instrument cluster is dimmed so that it is difficult to read. this creates an unsafe and in some states (california and others) illegal situation if the daytime running lights are turned on.

while driving across a bridge, the car's rear will lurch to one side and then back again. it also happens on rough roads. there is one particular bridge that i hate driving over because i know it will happen. i fear that if this happens in slippery conditions, i'll lose control. reading from others comments, it doesn't appear hyundai will do anything about it. my 2007 didn't have this issue. i'm also having an issue with the engine making a grinding noise on start up. there are youtube vids that show it too. the brakes make a horrible grinding noise. also the car is difficult to keep in a straight line, you constantly have to make adjustments. i've had many cars, never these kinds of issues. a real disappointment. wish i had kept my 2007 elantra.

wiper fluid pressure and direction is not adequate to clear windshield during winter driving conditions. the majority of the fluid never contacts the wipers before running off to the side. inver grove hyundai dealership looked at this problem on two occasions. on the first visit, the technician who drove the car agreed there was a problem. they shimmied the nozzles and told me to bring it back if not improved. i brought it back again because i saw no improvement and the problem was getting worse with the cold weather. i told them i felt it was a safety concern. the response on the second visit was, after flushing the system, the wiper fluid was performing similar to other elantras and, since there are no adjustments to make, there was nothing further they could do. they would not say if they agreed there was a problem or not. they referred me to corporate hyundai. their rep looked at the video referenced below and gave me the same response as the dealership. the dismissed my concerns and gave me no recourse. here is the link to the video that shows the wiper fluid under-shooting the wiper blades, taken feb 7 after my second visit to the dealership. the driver side is particularly bad on this occasion but both are effected and performance seems to vary depending on air temperature and speed: http://youtu.be/k4_xj-vylcc.

vehicle owner smelled a burning type smell on a cold day when having the heater on full to warm the vehicle. there was no obvious smoke or fire. the second time the vehicle owner had the heater on full to warm the car, a fire resulted. the fire caused so much damage to the vehicle that the initial cause is unknown.

at around 38000 miles i noticed that i was hearing a lot of noise out of the rearend of the vehicle. thinking it was a bad wheel bearing i took it to a dealer and they said my rear tires were bald and needed replaced. i took a look at the rear tires after leaving the dealership and noticed it was a very uneven and irregular tire wear pattern so i took it back to the dealership and they told me it was because i needed to rotate my tires more often (tires were rotated every 3000 miles when oil was changed) and that was why the irregular wear on only the 2 rear tires. the wear appeared as wavy spots where the tire had no tread then right next to that it had plenty of tread left. so i gave in bought all 4 brand new tires and after 1500 miles i went ahead and rotated the tires noticing that the rear tires had already began to wear in the exact same pattern so i took it back to the dealership and they told me it was a bad set of tires. needless to say i took it to a local tire shop and had them check the alignment on the back tires even though it is a solid rear axle. the alignment check showed that the rear wheels do not track straight and that is what is causing the rear tires to wear very fast. i took this information back to the dealership which refused to check the alignment on the rear wheels because it is a solid axle vehicle and there is no adjustment for it. they continued to blame the tires and rotation schedule for the problem. after doing more research on the web this is a known problems with the hyundai elantras and the dealerships refuse to fix it even knowing that problem with this particular vehicle. if a tire ends up blowing out due to the rear axle not being mounted correctly i could see that being a big problem.

this is a problem with the grinding of the front brakes on my 2013 elantra coupe from the day i drove it off the lot and now it is 15 months later and 12653 miles later and 5 trips back to the dealer to get it fixed, 1st they said they turned the rotors, 2nd they said they balanced the wheels, 3rd they said they aligned the front end, 4th they said it was a dust plate, and 5th they said it is normal. i went to a different dealer they said hyundai had made new softer pads to fix this problem. i sent an e-mail to hyundai customer connect center consumer affairs, they said to bring it back to the dealer. ..updated 04-16-14 *bf

elantra gt two issues related to body integrity and paint. noticed today on rear the small triangle window in back has chrome/metal decorative molding missing. clear the adhesive gave way. car is only hand-washed or goes thru touch-free car wash. 5 spots on different places on the car of paint, size of the head of a q-tip, removed. not related to scratches, paint clearly looks peeled not chipped. locations include on hatchdoor, side panels, between door and roof, and hood. car is in a garage at home and parking structure at work with limited outside exposure. both issues are insane for a car with 14,826 miles on it.

i purchased the 2013 hyundai elantra gls with 13461 miles on 2/15/14. the first few days i drove the vehicle locally everything seemed ok. a few days later once the vehicle was driven on bumpy uneven roadways the rear end of the vehicle appears to not stay in line with the front of the vehicle. when driving over uneven surfaces or bumps at speeds of 30mph and up the rear end seems to be out of control making the vehicle veer into another lane. the suspension on the vehicle for such low miles is also very noisy and rattles over the slightest imperfections on the road. the vehicle was serviced on 3/12/14 and the hyundai service advisor stated that a hyundai tech test drove the vehicle and stated that the vehicle is operating as designed. also they found that the rotors had rust on them and had to be resurfaced/machined. rotors should not go bad with a vehicle that has low miles. i purchased this car for the safety of my family and now am stuck with years of payments. i am not a happy hyundai consumer. i have seen numerous complains for the same issue. a recall needs to be done on this vehicle for the suspension problem.

hankook tire h426 p215/45r17 87h passenger side front tire sidewall bulge 9,983 miles on tire, no apparent road hazard, no credit from hankook cost $180 for new tire, mounting, online search revealed high incidence of this tire and sidewall bulge, asked hankook for quality assurance tracking, told no due to their opinion tire failure not a defect but due to road hazard, too many incidents of this exact tire failure warrants a study of tire safety standards.

i previously had reported that my brand new 2013 elantra gt had suffered two tire bubbles on two different oe nexen tires within weeks of each other. one of those tires blew out after i hit a pothole. after i made that report, one of the brand new nexen tires that i had just installed also developed a bubble after hitting a pothole. the low profile tire upgrade, which was included as part of the "style package" on my model car appears to be dangerous. i have now changed the 17" wheels and tires to 16" wheels and tires in order to have a thicker tire on my car and less chance for damage and injury. this is a huge problem with elantras with 17" wheel "upgrades." please do something. this wheel/tire size on this model needs to be recalled!

from the day i bought the car home seemed alittle funny how the back of the car shifts around. thought maybe after a few miles it would go away. the next day my dad took the car out for a drive and noticed the same thing. now today on the highway was driving back from work and hit a little bump with a very small curve and i thought i would crash into the dividers. the back of the car shifted around alot. almost lost total control of the car for a good few seconds. scared the hell out of me. wondering why hyundai has not made a recall on this situation. by the way it is not my first time i noticed the car doing this. was searching around seems like this is a very big problem on the elantra's. is hyundai just waiting for a big lawsuit to happen?

the car came with continental tires and both the front tires sidewall have bubbles. seems to be tire defect. hyundai - brad benson hyundai - nj refused to cover the tires. huyndai refused to replace the tires. continental tires paid 50 % of the cost to replace both the front tires. i still paid 160/- for 2 front tires. there seems to be a defect in the tires or the elantra 2013 4 dr ltd design. i would like to be compensated. i am scared to drive the car now. maybe all 4 tires needs to be replaced.

while driving my new car purchased on february 8,2014 , the road was uneven. my car swerved so bad when it hit the uneven road, it was so scary. thinking this was just the road, i forgot about it. everytime i drive , the same thing happens. it feels as if i'm losing total control of the car. this is on dry pavement, i hate to see what happens in the rain & snow. the swerve is enough to push the car close to the lane next to me. if a policeman was behind me i think he'd pull me over for reckless driving. i've never driven or been in a car where this happens. i have to hold onto the steering wheel with 2 hands constantly for fear i'll lose control of the car when this happens. this is extremely dangerous because i can lose control of the car or hit another car when it swerves. this is a new car & i am petrified to drive it. i am not the only one with this problem as i have read other complaints about the same thing. please help me. thanks

brakes grind (sounds like metal on metal contact) if applied going over 20mph in all weather conditions however it is worse when the brakes are applied on a bumpy road. dealer has not made any serious attempts to fix issue except telling me it was the humidity and putting lube on brakes which did not work.

i have had nothing but trouble with the steering on this car from day one. at first i thought i just needed to get use to it. wrong. the car just seems to float all over the road. you have no control. we drove in a snow dusting on the road and you could not keep it on the road. if you hit a slight dip in the pavement, you start to sway back and forth. if the day is just a little wind, you are continously trying to control the car. i have never had a car that had such uncontrolable steering. this is not right. i am continously trying to keep it on the road. i first thought it was the tires. i just spent $900 on a new set and it's the same thing. no control. i go over a lot of bridges when i go to work and it is very scary. i drive 80 miles a day to work and i am holding on to that steering wheel and working so hard to keep it from swaying that i am exhausted by the time i get to work. the steering wheel has way to much play in it. this is an accident just waiting to happen. this is a manufacture defect.

while driving my 2013 hyundai elentra down the highway @ approx 50mph, the left rear tire failed in the center of the tread. no warning. the car is driven by my teenage daughter for school and work. she hit nothing in the road. hasn't hit anything with the tire. dealership says it was due to a puncture. i refuse to believe that. if you have wire(s) showing, seems to me that would be a tire failure and not a simple puncture. this is not acceptable with me. hankook tire warranty in new jersey said to have the dealership send them the tire and they would inspect it to make a determination of failure or puncture. i have as much faith in them as i do the dealership at this point.

vehicle fishtails and sways when hitting a bump or a seam in the road. this happens every time. yesterday evening i hit a seam in the road on a curve (dry pavement) and it threw me into the other lane. i'm grateful there was not a car in the other lane it would have caused an accident. dealership states there is no recall or known issue but this is a very dangerous characteristic of this vehicle and it's going to cause great injury to an owner or passenger. in researching this problem there are many other 2013 elantra owners experiencing this same issue.

myself and my son pulled into the parking lot of a store. parked the car was in the store about 5 minutes came back out, tried to use the remote to pop trunk and it wouldn't work nor would the doors. i then opened the door with the key and the car was full of black smoke. someone pulled up told me to pop the hood that something was on fire. at that time it sounded like something was running but the car was off and keys in my hand. moments later i noticed fire started to drip under the dash right at the fuse box area on the drivers side and with minutes the car was fully engulfed in fire. a total loss. new car had 8-12 miles on it when i bought. fire department was called and put it out. i have pictures and it was horrible. blessed that we weren't driving at the time. hyundai has been notified and my insurance has requested several times for their engineers to come and inspect the car. as of today no one hasn't shown up or responded.

while driving my vehicle at highway speed, the vehicle suddenly stalled without any apparent reason. i was in the middle lane of a three lane highway. i had to coast over to the side of the highway with no steering or brakes due to the engine failure. once at the side of the highway, the vehicle re-started immediately and ran normally again for about a week when the same thing happened again, this time on a side street at approximately 15 mph. the vehicle once again started back up with no problem. it has run normally again as of this posting.

the first incident occurred as i was on an on ramp about to merge on to a highway. the car lost power and acted like it was about to stall - though there was gas (it was about 1/4 full); its an automatic so as far as i could tell it was not in the wrong gear. it revved up but did not gain any speed. somehow it recovered and i was able to continue without further incident. i am not sure where this falls - but even though we balance and rotate the tires every 5000 miles the car has been pulling to the right. when it is windy or if the road is bumpy you have to grip the steering wheel very tightly to keep it in the lane.

i was driving on i278 west bound in brooklyn, ny, and my driver side front tire went over a pot hole. it wasn't a deep pot hole since the impact was not severe, so i continue driving. after a minute of driving, the tire pressure indicator came on. that's when i pull over to the side of the highway, and called road side assistance. this has happened four times since i purchased the car. three out of the 4 cases happened on the driver front wheel. they either had bubble on the sidewall, or completely blew out. there is definitely a problem with the tire design, or the material used. it is becoming extremely unsafe to drive the vehicle due to the frequency of tire blow out.

the car literally rides like a truck, with a very light back end. when going over even slight bumps the ride (suspension) feels like a big hole or very rough road. there are times when the back end does not feel very stable when going of "washboard types of roads". road noise is distinctly loud at times.

i was in the far left lane of interstate 255 in southern illinois. a tractor trailer was in the process of cutting my off when i honked and he proceed back into his lane. i had braked quickly and with both hands on the wheel when the car lost control and i was swerving within the lane for around 2 minutes before i could regain control of the car. i almost clipped another car as well as the median, but barley missed both. i had both hands on the wheel, i did not stomp on the brakes, and yet i still lost control of the car. it also constantly sways to one side as well as the brakes lose grip if you run over any bump at all. you guys need to recall these cars, they are not safe and i am not paying almost 400 dollars a month for a car that could easily injure me in an accident.

while driving on a ca highway in the slow lane at approx. 50mph, in the morning time (60-65f degrees), i heard a sudden boom noise. it sounded like a gun shot. i was not near any overpass, nor were any vehicles in close proximity. i did not see any debris, projectiles or rocks hit the car. i pulled over on the highway, after swerving a few lanes, thinking i had blown a tire. to my surprise, the elantra gt panoramic sunroof had exploded. there were breaks along three of the four edges of the rear standing portion of the panoramic sunroof, not the moving portion of the sunroof. the breaks were near the edges only, and not in the center at all. there were no projectile holes anywhere, and the breaks were straight in nature. this seems to be an issue with hyundai panoramic sunroofs, as i know there was a 2012 recall for this issue on another model. i have also read about several 2013 hyundai panoramic sunroof explosion incidents on this nhtsa website. this is a definite safety hazard and needs to be addressed. i am fortunate there were no vehicles around me, as the loud boom caused me to swerve within two lanes. had the sunroof cover been open, the glass would have penetrated the interior of the vehicle, and the tempered glass could have caused severe lacerations, with the possibility of death, due to the speeds traveled. this issue needs to be addressed and fixed before it results in the loss of life. on a brighter note, since the vehicle only had 3k miles on it and was two months old, the dealer gave us a loaner and has agreed to fix the window at no cost; however, this doesn't remove the apprehension i will have while driving the vehicle once it is fixed, thinking it may happen again.

over the past 11 month this car has had several incidences where it just will not start. on a few occasions it started after a couple of tries and a few occasions where it would not start when i needed it to but had no problem starting an hour or two later. this weekend was the biggest issue. i parked my car friday evening with no indication that there was an issue but on saturday the car would not start, later on saturday the car would not start, sunday the car would not start. hyundai roadside assistance sent someone out to jump my car but the car would not start. they sent out a tow truck to take the car to the dealership and he used the shift override to put the car in neutral and the car started right up once it was in neutral and it drove just fine. when this issue occurs the instrument panel lights up but when i turn the key to start the car, the panel goes out and there is nothing but silence from the engine. the last time it happened i took the car to the dealership but they said they could not duplicate the issue so there was nothing they could do because it is not causing any codes to go to the computer.

purchased new 2013 from dealer. mileage at pick up - 212. i picked the car up, approximately 2 wks after signing paperwork, because my mom was hospitalized. i drove the car for a couple of wks - to work, the hospital. i'm 48 yrs old, i drive cautiously. it's my first new car in 17 years. i'm parking far from all cars + being very careful with the car. the car has been having some problems so i gave it a really close inspection + discovered the front tire had a small bubble, the size of a quarter, in the outer wall. at that point mileage was under 700 miles. i returned to the dealer, salesman implied they would fix it - not the case. the dealer said not our product and sent me to a tire company who they said deals w/ nexen warranty paperwork - not the case. i called nexen on june 12th (mileage was approximately 726 miles) + reported it. i gave them tons of information + told them the name of the dealership manager i've been dealing with on the multiple car issues. they said they would call the dealership + see if they could get them to cooperate with them. they also said they were going to see about replacing the tire on a 1 time basis. to date i have heard nothing. the tires are written about extensively online - many people have trouble with this tire on this car. some think it could be the combination of the tire size 17" + the car, speculating the car might not be able to handle this size. it's a huge safety issue. bubbles equal blow outs, endangering the lives of those in the car + those driving or walking in close proximity. hyundai is also misrepresenting the car and so are the sales people at mirak. i told them i did not want low profile tires. they told me they were not low profile tires. and they told me to look at the sticker. the sticker does not say low profile tires. but the tire pros say - they absolutely are low profile tires.

every few months one of the tires on our 2013 elantra limited fails while driving. our car currently has just 11,000 miles and is less than 1 year old and since we bought the car we have had 2 tires blow holes in the sidewall (months apart from each other) and a third developed a large blister. my dealer referred me to hyundai cust svc, hyundai customer service told me that they do not cover the tires at all and it is not their problem. continental tire customer service told me that they manufactured the tire specifically for hyundai and to their specifications and if there is an issue with design then i would have to pursue it through hyundai because they do not warrant against "road hazards." i do not feel that this is a safe vehicle for my wife to continue to drive unless this situation is addressed. currently we have had 2 tires blow out while driving leaving my wife stranded and without a spare (vehicle does not come with a spare!) the car then needs to be towed. oem tire brand is continental contiprocontact radial - 215/45r17 87h

i have found that since purchasing my hyundai elantra that anytime i hit a pothole or bump that the whole car shifts to the right or left. i went around a corner the other day at a low speed and hit a bump, the whole back end slid to the right. i find this very unsettling. i'm not sure if this is a suspension problem with my vehicle or a vehicle defect in general with this car. i find it unsettling and unsafe that my car cannot handle even the slightest bump without the whole car shifting to one side or the other. have you had any other complaints about this vehicle? i was not made aware of any issues when purchasing this car but am concerned enough about it to bring this to your attention.

car purchased new (limited trim) in december 2012. during winter 2013 (dec/jan timefrime), i hit a significant pothole ona local highway on-ramp blowing out the front passenger-side tire. after being towed to a local repair shop (no spare tire supplied), tire was replaced with a new identical tire. service station called asking for authorization to replace d/s front tire also since it had a side-wall bubble. i declined permission and when i picked up the car brought it to advantage hyundai for the second tire. on july 11, 2014, i found another sidewall bubble on the d/s front tire and had the same dealer again sell me a new tire. today 10 days later, another front d/s tire sidewall bubble. no abnormal potholes encountered. including the blowout, this is four tire failures in 19 months and 25,000 miles. tires are 17" low profiles and rubber is from hankook. situation is unsettling. this is a dangerous situation for anyone driving in this vehicle.

on 06/19/14, i purchased a 2013 model car at rick case dealership, lauderhill, florida. odometer showed 7413 miles. supposedly certified and with 10 yrs warrantee, etc. i drive some 7000 miles/yr so vehicle stays in driveway most of the time. very seldom do i take it our on the highway. at about 7715 or so miles of slow, street driving, i take it on the highway and notice a loud racket, banging noise. i take it in the dealer. dealer says they found "a couple of loose bolts" which they tightened and that was it. they returned the vehicle to me. about a week later,[around 7850 miles] i take it again on the road. it took about 15 miles or so of 70+ m/h driving for the racket to show itself again. i take it once more to the dealer. this time i pointed our that i had noticed something unusual with the alignment of the rear,left shock absorber. upon inspection the dealer tells me the car has been in a serious accident of some sort as the undercarriage is all banged up, the absorber is misaligned, the brake line is hanging precariously close to the tire, etc and that i must have caused this problem. [their gall and audacity is amazing!], as a result, i have to assume all costs!. they clearly want to take advantage of me, the customer. sales manager says that i "should have inspected" the car before i bought it..again, the gall of this man! i saw no proof that the car had been "thoroughly inspected" as he claims. i swear under penalty of perjury that this car was like that when i bought it. i contend that the dealer had full knowledge of this and willingly and wantonly sold it to me in the hope that i do not notice maybe?. finally, when i told the service manager the danger involved in driving this car, his solution was to "keep it in the garage" until i'm able to pay for the fix...again, the gall of these guys!. i made them write everything

sun roof (moon roof) exploded. while traveling at 65 mph, with the sun roof closed and the internal ceiling shade closed, an extremely loud pop came from the roof of the car. very loud! then, the sound of wind and broken glass streaming over the car and onto the cars traveling behind us. we pulled over and found the sun roof shattered from edge to edge. we made our way to the nearest hyundai dealer and persuaded them to vacuum out the glass. they told us that this was due to a rock hitting the top and would not be covered by the warranty. we made our way home with no top but talked to many different hyundai representatives who all claimed that they'd never heard of such a thing. our subsequent research has suggested otherwise. this is a major concern for the safety of those driving and occupying these cars and for the other drivers on the road as well.

bought this car new as a closeout on may 30th 2014. i was on interstate 57 going south about 60 miles out of paducah ky driving the posted speed limit with the cruise control on. with no warning the car went to the left across 3 lanes and then back to the right 3 lanes and again to the left 3 lanes before i could regain control. the semi behind me just about jack knifed trying to avoid hitting me. it was only because the traffic was very light and the semi and i were the only ones on the road in that area at the time this happened, or there would have been a major accident. i took the car to the dealer in paducah they said it was my brakes, they cut the routers. i could not drive the car even after the repair over 55 mph as it would wander to the left and to the right. when i returned to my home state i took the car back to the dealer and told them to return it to hyundai. i was told by the dealer that they never heard of this ever happening to anyone else. i have seen reports of others having the same problem so this is a cover up by hyundai. the steering on the hyundai is bad! there needs to be a major recall on this electronic steering. the complaints are from sonata owners also.

we purchased the 2013 hyundai elantra brand new in dec 2013. the car now has approx 9,200 on july 31, 2014, went to make a turn and several alarms went off on the car. the power steering went out. i was unable to complete my turn. had the car towed to the dealership. they stated that the "column & shaft assembly" was bad and had to be completely replaced. it is very scary to be driving a car down a busy highway and all of the sudden not be able to steer the car. the steering wheel felt "locked"..

retraction seat belts are defective ! my son fail asleep in back, while in seat belt. somehow he was loop inside belt.i released belt knuckle.the belt pull in upwards fast retracting"but i could'nt pull out" the belt to get him out of the tangle.somehow he was being strangle around the stomach area.it then became a life threatening.i had nothing on me to cut the belt with.,justed a cell phone to call 911.the responders task force could'nt beleive the belt would'nt pull out.the car sitting in park no keys in it.all door's were open & trunk.and search all over for somekind of release device.the owner's manual mention nothing about a saftey release button on seat belt.the camera phones was used to document belt problem.

was taking trash to the dump, 1 person's worth, going 5 mph 1/ of mile from my home, car veered to right edge of pavement, and where a bulldozer had drug road edges and broke pavement off, caused me to hit a tree at a very slow speed. i reversed car, backed up 50 ft. and car shut itself off & windshield got extremely hot, and i got out of vehicle, smoke coming from hood area, left my purse, and walked across road to ask for fire extinguisher. man had just got up, hadn't had coffee ,and invited me in. i went back outside and saw car was burning, so i stayed on his porch, then front yard. i knew trash may have aerosol canisters, and not worth my life to try to go through fire to save my purse. cops came (9:45-10:15 am , and said i looked funny and arrested me accusing me of being under the influence of medication. i was not on any medicine and definitely not drinking. car was a total loss after explosion and i have not had another for over 8 months. i am on disability for fibromyalgia, neuralgia, & osteoporosis, and hollow bones. i fall quite often (one leg is shorter than other). officer himself drew my blood in a public place, and refused to let me see my attorney 3 times. i never got to use a phone in 2 days. but vehicle was problematic from day 1 , battery would not hold a charge, jump a riding lawn mower , and would just cut off while i was going down the road. steering was also a problem from day one, like tires were never aligned.

VISIBILITY:SUN ROOF ASSEMBLY

at approx. 7:20 am on july 24, 2014 the sunroof on my 2013 hyundai elantra gt with panoramic roof exploded while traveling on rte 495 in ma. it sounded like a shotgun blast in the car. all windows were up and the sunroof was closed. the shade was open. i estimate 75% of the glass blew up and out of the vehicle. some remained in the frame of the sunroof and some fell down into the car, a small amount upon my head and down my back. there was no vehicle in front of or next to me in the three lane stretch of highway. the road conditions were perfect, the highway has been re-paved in the last few months. the outside temp. was in the mid 70's, no rain, no heavy winds, not too warm or too cold. there was a commercial van behind that experience a spray of tempered safety glass. as i pulled over they passed me with looks of astonishment on their faces. they were checking to see if i was ok and concern for my safety. they did not stop after seeing i was not injured. after checking everything out i continued to drive the car to work. i called the dealership and they arranged to get me a loaner car and to pick up the vehicle for inspection and repair. after seeing the vehicle i was told it was not a warranty issue (really?) and that the hyundai representative said there was no apparent indication if the sunroof was struck or not struck with anything. but that "glass just doesn't break by itself" so it will not be covered under warranty. i called hyundai customer affairs and they gave me a case number and told me they would look into it. they were also surprised a hyundai engineer was available to inspect the sunroof so quickly since it typically takes several days to schedule one to go see the car in person. 5 days later they told me they spoke to someone at the dealership and that they were told the same thing that the hyundai representative had reported.

driving on freeway at speed of approx. 65-70, hit off level pavement on right side on road while braking to slow (for traffic) and brake pedal hardened (pedal hard to press for few seconds) while making clicking sound, but then functioned properly. felt like front pass wheel. figured nothing. months passed, driving in shopping center and going over speed bump at about 5 mph and front wheel made clicking again while braking to slow further and brake pedal hardened again (difficult to press for few seconds) then functioned properly. took car to dealer for regular maintenance and informed dealer of situation and service rep claimed it was how the abs system worked and that was all it was, the abs system working. told him this problem does not happen when the left wheel is involved hitting or going over bump. first time owned vehicle with abs but i think the brake pedal is not suppose to harden up while abs system is functioning as this would limit any braking capacity. feels like there is a bigger problem and dealer is not taking it seriously. original owner since 7/31/13, this problem has happed at least 4 times and all seemed to only involve the front passenger wheel.

while driving on freeway and driving through normal traffic flow, drove on wide curve portion on road, i ran into some uneven portions of road when on curve and rear end of vehicle felt like swaying (slightly loosing control). felt real loose. this also happens on uneven roads on straightaways. this happened at speeds between 60-70 as this happened quite often on uneven roads. did not notify dealer on this directly, notified them on hyundai (e-mail to me) on vehicle satisfactory suggestion report.

the sheet that came with the car says 28 mpg in city driving. i get 20-21 in the city. when i take it to automax hyundai they do a road mileage test and say it get 42 mpg. i tell them that i am not concerned with road mileage since i only do city driving. they do not have equipment necessary to check city mileage and are not concerned at all about my city mileage problem.

on july 18, 2014, my 2013 hyundai elantra ran into a subway restaurant at 12150 s. cicero, alsip, il. i was going into the subway parking lot, my goal was to park, but my car did not stop when i put on my brakes. my car kept going; it drove over the sidewalk, through the scrubs, and hit the building head on. hitting the building is what stopped my vehicle, my air bag did not deploy. i then put on the brakes, put it in reverse and backed off the building, backing into the parking place that i was originally going into to park. once my car was parked, it began to smoke. i got out of the car, looked at the damage to my car and the subway building, called my insurance company, state farm and my son. the 2 employees in the subway, called the police and the subway restaurant owner.

i purchased the 2013 hyundai elantra gls with 13,400 miles on february 15, 2014. after a few days of driving the vehicle i realized that the car floats all over the road when driving pretty much at any speed. you have to hold the steering wheel with both hands to keep control of the vehicle. the rear of the vehicle also jumps around when driving over imperfections on the roadway. the back end suspension is very stiff and when going over these imperfections the vehicles veers into another lane or shoulder. i have called hyundai with no response and emailed them only to be told to bring it to a hyundai dealership. i brought the vehicle to the freehold hyundai dealership twice now and was told the vehicle operates to factory specs. this is an unacceptable answer. i have a family and fear that an accident is going to occur with this vehicle due to the poor handling and someone is going to get injured or even killed. i demand hyundai reimburse me for what i have paid for this vehicle or issue a recall and fix the problems that many of the elantra owners are dealing with.

i previously owned a 2012 elantra and had no complaints, i traded it for the 2013 and have serious concerns. when the roads are dry the car drives great, however when the roads are wet or plowed snow i have very little control over the rear of the vehicle. i spent $800 for new snow tires hoping that would make a difference but it does not. i drive 150 miles per day round trip for work and it is mostly interstate. when it rains or snows i am not able to safely drive over 40-50mph without the rear end swaying and fishtailing. every other car is travelling at highway speeds and there i am in the right lane just struggling to keep my car on the road at 45mph. i am frustrated that my hyndai dealer and the hyundai office are totally disregarding my safety by not acknowledging that this is a serious safety issue. keep in mind that this is not a tire issue because the problem exists even after new snow tires are put on the car. also, it is not a winter driving issue because the car reacts the same way when it is raining outside.

just arrived at my residence when power steering stopped. had to force car to turn in my drive. electronic steering control and electronic power steering warning lights on. delivered car to dealer on 8/19/2014. dealer had car for three days for repair. new steering column with angle sensors had to be installed and adjusted. this was a very dangerous situation and the same thing has happened to other owners on this site.

i purchased this vehicle in june 2013. i had no complaints until july of 2014, wherein my car picks and chooses when to start. i have looked online and there are many others who seem to have this complaint. i finally gave in on aug. 24, after my car sat for two days because i could not get it to start. i called the hyundai 24 hour roadside and had them tow it to the nearest dealership. the tow truck driver initially tried to start it, and it didn't. he popped the button nearest the top of the shifter and pressed it in, and put the car in neutral, it then started but sputtered like it wanted to turn off. he was able to drive the car onto the tow truck. the next morning, i spoke with the mechanic at the dealership who indicated that the car was starting for them just fine. he said there are so many sensors that it could be one, but they wouldn't know where to start as there are so many and could not make an educated guess. he wanted to keep it overnight to see if it would act up for them. it is now 2pm two days later and the mechanic claims there is still no issue, he said they have let it run all morning and it is fine. this has become ridiculous, especially when i see so many others with the same complaint, yet nothing being done. help, nhtsa!

unable to insert the key in the ignition no matter how hard we tried.this happened fairly soon after we purchased the car from the dealer; it has happened numerous times and has been towed to the dealer 3 times, but the dealer eventually gets the key in the the ignition and claims there is no problem "can not duplicate the problem". at one incident the drive of the tow truck hammered the key quite hard in the ignition and forced the key in! i have contacted hyundi motor and they say they can not do anything for me and claim that" this is a common problem, and i need to steer the steering wheel really hard to get the steering mechanism loose" this should not happen with 6 months old car while it is still under warranty.any input or advice would beappreciated. thank you.

the tires that came with my elantra ((hankook h426 215/45 17) had to be replaced in less than 18 months as the side wall was bulging dangerously. my son who has a 2010 elantra with hankook tires had a blow-out while driving. i think these hankook tires are dangerously unreliable. thank you.

was making a left turn at a intersection and t boned a pick up truck, exstensive damage to front end of the elantra front end,[ air bags did not deploy on the elantra ] even though the whole front end was tore off. driver door damaged,windshield cracked both front fenders damaged, plus unknown if tranmission and or transaxle has been damaged until the car can be repaired. hyundai has stop any repairs until they send a hyundai investagator to look at the car, which they say could take up to 6 to 8 weeks to check it.

coming to the end of a passing lane at about 60 mph, cars got congested, braked hard and the brakes locked up causing me to lose control of my car, started to go into oncoming traffic. i let up on the brakes and braked again, brakes locked up as before. i thought anti-lock brakes prevented this from happening. this has happened two other times, just not this bad, plus when i go over railroad tracks of hit a pothole, i can't use the brakes. i noticed the other complaints about the factory hancock tires, they should be ban from new cars, i had two accidents in one day due to light snow.

transmission made a loud scraping noise as i started out from a stop. it was hard to get the car going, but i got the car to go a short distance (about 1/4 mile) but it was too difficult to drive. when i pulled over, i heard the scraping again. i had to call twice for a tow; the first driver said there was nothing wrong except oil under the car. i could not get it going, so i had it towed by a second driver to the closest dealer, who refused to consider that the transmission might have a problem and the fluid might be from that. he refused to check the car unless i paid $110 upfront. since he had taken out the oil filter, i told him to change the oil; they finally did after some time and then when thet tried to drive it, they could not get it to go more than 10 mph, and decided it was the transmission. they kept the car and did not give me a work order, which is contrary to california state law. i had to call the next day to insist that they email it to me. it took seven days for the part to arrive and for them to fix the car, which i picked up on march 5. i am currently having pickup problems in the lower gears (from 0 to 35 mph) with the new transmission.

on september 9, 2014, my daughter was driving our 2013 hyundai elantra (purchased january 2014) to school on a surface street. she stopped at a stop light and upon accelerating heard a loud noise and pulled over immediately into a parking space. she noticed that she had a flat tire. she called me immediately and i showed up to change the tire. i noticed a large hole in the oem hankook optimo tire and i took it to the dealer (hyundai inland empire) for repair. the hole was too big to repair and i was told that i needed to replace the tire. two hours later the service advisor called me and stated that i needed to replace the rim because it was cracked. the cost of replacement was $399 for the rim and $153.67 for the tire. i could not believe that the rim was cracked. there was no significant mechanism to crack the rim. this was a simple flat tire on a high traffic, 30 - 40 mph street, at 7:30 in the morning. both of my daughters were in the car and both confirm that they heard a loud noise and pulled over immediately. there was no tire sidewall damage and no evidence of rim damage. i have owned 8 cars in my lifetime and have had several flat tires, and i have never had a cracked rim. this is an 8 month old car with low miles and there is no other reason for a cracked $399 rim, other than manufacture defect. i have researched the internet and have found 12 other reported cases of cracked rims in the 2013 elantra. as a parent, who purchased this car for his daughter based on the safety rating, i am very concerned about the size of the tire blow-out and the cracked rim. i have contacted hyundai, both customer care and the dealer, and they have refused to cover the cost of the rim or admit any defect or fault. a nine month old rim should not crack with a simple flat tire. the fact that 12 other cases have been reported in the last 9 months is substantial.
