STEERING

2008 honda crv lx - steering wheel pulls to the right. i have to fight the steering wheel to keep it in the lane. it is extremely dangerous. it gets out of control and when correcting the wheel, it over-corrects itself and has almost caused a crash. i took it back to the dealers service department. they did an alignment and adjusted the tire pressure. it did not make a difference in the unsafe steering problem. after searching on the internet, i believe this is a serious problem for numerous crv owners.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM

after driving my new honda cr-v for 4 weeks, 3 to 4 times a week i began to feel sick. i experienced severe headaches, nausea, burning sensation in my sinuses and throat, over-all weakness. this continued for 5 weeks until i was so sick that i stayed home in bed for 3 days in mid march. then when i drove the car again after returning to work i again got very sick and it was at that point that i suspected that the car was somehow the cause. i saw my gp doctor, explained my symptoms and he confirmed that the chemical emissions coming from the new materials and adhesives in the interior of the car could be the cause. as long as i do not drive the car more than once a week and do so with all of the windows open i do not get sick. i have read reports that indicate that it will take 6-8 months before the harmful chemical levels drop to acceptable levels. also, the reports say that if the car is parked in the sun, the heat intensifies the toxic chemical levels and that this can last up to 3 years. because this has made me so very sick i felt that i should report it.

TIRES

i just bought a brand new honda cr-v with bridgestone dueller p225/65r17 102t all-season tires. two days after purchase, i was driving on the highway that have slits/grooves in the surface for rain run off. the vehicle started swaying erratically side to side on other surfaces it handles fine. i contacted the honda dealer where i purchased the vehicle and the service tech inspected and test drove it, but found nothing wrong. it wasn't until last friday that another person experienced the same thing on the same stretch of highway with a 2008 cr-v with these type of bridgestone tires. the honda tech test drove the cr-v with other type of tires and bridgestone and discovered the swaying of the vehicle only happens with bridgestone duellar. at this point, the service dept. at this particular dealer has really not addressed that this vehicle with these particular tires on this type of surface is a major safety issue nor is it a priority. i've been driving on these unsafe tires for a week now with no resolution in sight.

VISIBILITY

dear sir: i recently purchased a brand new 2008 honda crv and am largely happy with it. however, on several occasions i have come dangerously close to having an accident when changing lanes due to what i consider to be an exceptionally large blind spot that is not covered by any of the mirrors. even turning my head around is not always adequate, and is itself dangerous when driving at highway speeds.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

purchased a new honda crv on friday july 25th. two days later, with less than 200 miles on the odometer, the battery light, exclamation mark, vehicle stability light and check engine light came on, the vehicle hesitated while attempting to accelerate, and rolled back when the transmission was in the drive mode. i took the crv to the honda dealership where they cleaned the alternator terminals, that did not fix the problem. they have now changed the alternator but the check engine light is still on. now they think that the engine air 'intake' may be the problem.

i have a 2008 cr-v ex with sun roof from honda. the car can not be driven over 25 miles per hours with one of the rear windows open. over 50 miles per hours the noise is so bad that the car is shaking and the ear are hurting. i believe it can easily injure someone ear and it should be addressed. when i bought the car no one tell me i will not be able to drive my car with the rear windows open except if i open the front windows. i have a child of 2 1/2 years old and i have to make sure the windows are lock so it does not open it due to the risk of injure of his ear. honda should fix the issues and recall all the model with the sun roof. i just both the car and find about this issue on the 12-08-2008 but the problem will not go away. i when to honda and they test another cr-v with the same result.

SEATS

the headrest pushes forward much too far and is causing pain and tension on my wife's neck and back. also there is no lumbar support on the passenger side and she is extremely uncomfortable in this car. when we contacted honda we were told that there are no remedies to fix this. because of this we would never buy a honda again unless they changed these issues. we just bough this one and are very unhappy with the lack of comfort and the inability to even purchase an alternate headrest or to be able to choose a seat with more back support. the headrest and seat should be adjustable to fit the consumer's stature and comfort level.

i bought my 2008 honda crv on aug 29 and within 2 days i realized that car pulls to its right which is very dangerous. on my first attempt of describing this problem to the honda service department they told me that there is no problem and asked me to drive for atleast 3-4k miles. it is very risky on road as car pulls to right. when i insisted again and again same day, they asked me to leave the car and correct the problem. after 2 days they returned the car but it still pulls to the right. this pull is really scary at high speeds on freeways. i have left my car at dealer service for second time (pull to the right) within first 7 days.

tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda cr-v. page 307 of the contact's vehicle owners manual, entitled "tire chain", states that in inclement weather conditions, the tire chains can be placed on the front driver's side tires to assist with driving. after the contact placed the chains on the vehicle, the electronic monitoring system activates braking and traction. the failure sporadically causes a loss of control that frequently results in 180 degree turns. the failure occurred during relatively low speeds and was noticed while driving 10 mph. the dealer stated that if something was wrong, a warning indicator should illuminate on the instrument control panel. the contact stated that there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to or during the failures. the manufacturer did not assist. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 26,000.

SEAT BELTS

i had an accident dec 9, 2008 in my 2008 honda cr-v. i took it to the body shop the next day. the repair should have taken 10 days. the body shop found that the seatbelt jammed & didn't deploy like it should have, so needed to replace the buckle. the buckle is a controlled part, has to be ordered by vin# & was on back order, they will not overnight it either. it took 2 weeks to come in (on emergency order), my body shop would not let me have it back til the seatbelt worked. finally got the seatbelt buckle in & something was still wrong. my body shop guy took it to a honda dealer (trickett honda in nashville, tn) & left it. the honda dealer said the srs box had to be replaced, said it was part of a recall, so had to order the srs box & wait for it. honda wasn't going to release the new srs box's till jan. 16th. then when the srs was replaced it indicated the passenger front seatbelt buckle was bad, part of the recall. had to wait another week for it to come in on emergency order. finally got my honda back on jan 22, 2009. my insurance paid for a rental 30 days & then i had to pay for 15 days. now i am trying to get honda of america to pay for the 15 days i had to pay for a rental. a friends brother works for honda in ky& also said there was a recall because the seatbelts were jamming. yet there is not a recall posted anywhere for this. my case manager at honda of america (antonio "tony' gonzales) said there is not a recall on my car. i asked him for his supervisor when i wasn't getting anywhere, he said i couldn't talk to his supervisor, not part of the procedure. i had to go off on him to get him to refer it to a senior case manager. then he finally said i could fax him my paid car rental bill & he'd see if i could be reimbursed. enterprise faxed him a copy of the bill on jan 22, 2009 for me.

TIRES

continental oem tire on honda crv causes vehicle to slide out of control on snow covered roads and constantly lose traction in rear. we have had numerous near accidents because of the poorly designed low rated tires. my wife is afraid of driving the crv now. (2) honda dealers inspected vehicle for possible vehicle stability assist problem and both dealers confirmed that vsa was functioning properly. dealer #2 stated that he had similar issues with other crv owners because of the tires. looking at tire reviews on line the continental contact 4 x 4 is rated as a very poor tire that wears out very quickly and with similar issues as i have stated. even the authorized continental dealer in my area says the tires are poor quality and has rarely seen them make 20,000 miles. honda won't admit they made a poor choice putting this unsafe cheap tire on the crv. i started having problems with the tires at 5000 miles. i now have 8000 miles on the vehicle. honda america who was absolutely no help will only refer you to the tire dealer even though it was their choice to put this unsafe tire on the crv as original equipment. hondas suggestion was that i run chains. our winters here in northwest pa run from november to march. i don't know anyone other than the us mail vehicles and plow trucks that run chains. what a stupid suggestion. i bought the crv 4 wd for peace of mind, fuel economy and safety. honda needs to be aware that they can't put people in danger because of someones decision to put low grade tires on their vehicles.

WHEELS

my story begins (2/14/09) when my husband was taking off the left front tire. during removal, using a manual lug wrench, he snapped off two wheel studs. the following monday, (2/16/09), we took the crv to the orwigsburg service center, our local repair shop, to have a state inspection performed and replace the broken wheel studs. while at this shop, our mechanic pulled all four wheels, and informed us that all the wheels studs, 20 in total, were bent outward, in a circumferential pattern. we were then advised to contact american honda, as this was certainly due to some type of product defect. due to the seriousness of the situation we had, at our expense, the crv towed to lehigh valley honda for inspection, and we assumed, a warranty repair. imagine our surprise, when lehigh valley hondas¿ service advisor insinuated on several occasions, that we had somehow through our own carelessness, damaged this vehicle. he then determined that since he had never seen such damage, it must have been our misuse of the crv that caused the damage and thus was not covered under the honda warranty. i should point out at this point, that the inspection was thorough enough to observe that there were three broken studs, & fifteen damaged ones. refer to attached report. i am curious as to where the additional broken stud was, and why only 18 out of a total 20 studs were determined to be bent. we have in our possession, the 18 bent studs, which were replaced by our repair shop. further, they refused to release copies of pictures they allegedly took to my husband when he requested same. my local mechanic suggests that either the wheels are defective, or perhaps the tires. he has, again at my expense, replaced all 20 wheel studs and bearings with genuine honda parts. he has informed me that we must bring it in at 1,000, 3,000, 6,0000 etc. intervals, as he believes that there is something intrinsically wrong with the vehicle, and that the bent stud situation will reoccur. updated 04/12/10.*jb

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

hi, we purchased a 2008 honda crv in august, 2008. we have been reading complaints on the 2008 crv during winter (the same problems that i encountered last winter). it slides easily and the traction control doesn't work well during winter. it doesn't work well too when the vehicle is parked on a parking that slopes up with about 6 inches of snow. i was in a hurry to go to work but i got towed the first time when my 2008 crv was only 5 months old because it could not go forward when it was in the parking that slopes up even if i already plowed the snow. it could only reverse but didn't want to go forward. when i was towed the vehicle was checked by a honda customer service in il. they told me there is nothing wrong with my vehicle. i almost hit another vehicle a number of times during winter even if i drive slow which never happened on my old hyundai. so, i tried to be very very slow on winter because i was really scared. i don't trust my crv during winter. the vehicle is not recommendable to buyers because of the problems during winter. honda might be sued by complainants if something worse happens during accidents. my former boss loved the looks of my crv and planned to purchase the same but i said it is not recommendable because of the problems during winter. i relayed to her the problems that i had during winter. she was disappointed and decided to buy a nissan. i don't want to recommend the 2008 model to somebody and later on will find out and experience the same and then blame me for recommending it to them. i am sorry about this but these are facts that honda should know. i already reported this to them but as i said i was only told that nothing is wrong with the vehicle. i still believe that honda should recall the 2008 models for the safety of everybody. i love my crv but not during winter. 2008 honda crv owner.

excessive wearing of rear tires on honda crv. "cupping" has occurred on rear tires @ 16k miles. according to dealer, this occurs when tires aren't rotated every 3k miles. i know i requested and believed the dealer had rotated my tires @ 5k intervals, but they don't have any records of this.????? if this is the case, why aren't the other two tires "cupping"? they have 7500 miles on them since they were rotated to the rear position.the "cupped" tires were moved front to "alleviate" the condition and allow them to wear in, according to dealer. this didn't happen and the condition has worsened! they claim there isn't any defects on the vehicle to cause this condition?? i have owned and driven cars for 43 yrs. and have never experienced this condition!! i do believe there is a problem in which honda doesn't want to accept responsibility for. we had purchased a used crv in the past, for our daughter and have had to beg, plead and battle them to honor their "multi point checks & pre-certification" claims and warranty! they are running their advertising "scams" and getting away with it!

i experienced excessive "cupping" on the rear tires of my new 2008 honda cr-v awd. the tires began to make a very loud noise and the vehicle developed a slight bouncing ride at about 22,000 miles and both issues became intolerable at about 26,000 miles, and you could feel the extreme cupping of the tires when rubbing your hand over the tread. i had the dealer rotate the tires with every scheduled oil change, and the cupping problem still continued to occur. the vehicle came with the conti 4 x 4 tires, and they needed to be replaced at my expense well before a reasonable life expectancy. the honda dealer would not provide me with any warranty assistance or discount, stating that they would do a 4 wheel alignment on the vehicle - at my expense - and sell me 4 new tires. there are numerous forums on the internet where people are complaining and alleging that the awd vehicles (fwd's are ok) are leaving the factory with improper alignment of the rear camber and it is causing the premature wear of the factory tires. the dealer claimed that they had no knowledge of this problem. i took the vehicle to a national tire shop and purchased 4 new tires and had them perform a 4 wheel alignment on the vehicle....the computer read-out that they provided me showed that the rear tires were aligned in extreme opposite directions. the employees at the tire shop alleged that they were very familiar with the problem because they see lots of 2007 and 2008 honda crv's in their shop with the same problem. i believe there is a problem for which honda doesn't want to accept responsibility. tire cupping is not only a nuisance because of the rumbling noise that gets louder at freeway speeds - it is also a safety issue for braking and traction because of how it affects the amount of tread surface contact with the roadway. immediately upon leaving the tire shop, the problem disappeared and the vehicle ride is quiet and great. i cost me over $800 for new tires and a 4 wheel alignment.

where to start. i bought my new 2008 honda crv in january of 2008. in february i has a low tire indicator light and brought it to my local garage for a tire check. nothing wrong with the tires, but they put air in them. i have had the same problem without fail about 6 times in addition to my regular maintenance appointments. i have had my services at each service indicator and performed all of the indicated codes. tire rotations at each service by a honda dealer. at my second service on 1/30/09, 16,000miles my tires were marked as 6/32 wear tread remaining. at my third and most recent service 9/5/09 the tires were marked as 4/32 remaining, and i was advised that i would need to buy new tires at less, this is with 26,000 miles on the vehicle. i contacted bridgstone/firestone regarding the short life of the tires and they said that they know about the problem, but that it is honda that is buying poorly made "cheap" tires and putting them on their new vehicles because they do not warranty them for mileage. then honda makes out like bandits for selling you new tires in 18,000 to 32,000 miles with an added cost for mounting and 4-wheel alignment at just about $800.00. the honda service tech seemed to get some humor in telling me that i needed new tires at 26,000 miles and was very accommodating as far as providing me a price for the same exact pieces of crap that came with the vehicle, plus mounting and balancing fee, plus a 4 wheel alignment fee. if i had known about this before i bought my vehicle i would not have bought from honda. i too was looking for a vehicle that was good in the snow we see in new england winters and had good gas mileage. what a scam honda has going!

2008 honda cr-v continues to pull to the right. i had to replace my tires twice each time around 20k miles - the tires were worn unevenly even though i had them rotated 3 times in the past year. brought into mile high honda in denver to check alignment, each time they claim nothing is wrong and it is normal to have to replace tires every 20k miles. i also complained that the steering wheel is not straight when driving. i first reported this issue when the car had 9k miles on it.. it has been a year and 1/2 and issue remains. this is a very dangerous defect that for some reason they can not figure out how to fix. the car does not drive straight. period. i guess they are waiting for someone to get seriously hurt or die before they will admit there is a problem.

i was in an accident where the car slid off the road in a snow storm. when the car hit the ditch i pushed on the brakes and the car kept moving. the vehicle continued to move about 50 feet before striking a tree. it never slowed down, no matter how hard i pressed the brake pedal. the vehicle is equipped with all wheel drive (awd). it appeared to me that the awd took over and continued to try to get the vehicle under control from the slide on the ice. i was driving about 20 to 25 mph at the time when i started to slide on ice. the passenger side wheels went into the ditch line, which was about 12 inches deep. i stepped on the brakes immediately after the wheels hit the ditch thinking it would slow the vehicle since the wheels were no longer on the icy road. as i said earlier, at that point i was pressing the brakes as hard as i could but the vehicle did not slow down. i suspect there is a conflict between the braking system and the awd when this situation occurs. it appears the awd software continues to gain stability, and prevents the brakes from stopping the wheels. i also read a notice from honda that says when a situation like this occurs the anti-lock brakes are disabled and regular braking takes over.

i was pulling into parking space in garage with my 2008 honda crv. put brake on and heard loud revving sound of engine (like when a car peels out from a stop light). the brake did nothing and the car surged forward with the revving right into the concrete wall of the garage. it hit so hard it made my glasses fly off my face. it bounced off the concrete wall about 3-4 feet and stopped. my foot was on the brake the whole time. after the car stopped, there was a really bad smell of something burning. my airbag did not deploy, but the car impacted a little to the right of center. fortunately, i had my seat belt on. the shoulder strap jammed from the impact and could not be loosened. after i turned the engine off, the dashboard lights remained on and the bad smell intensified. the car had to be towed, i was told it "was not drivable" by the honda dealer where it was towed. the dealer wouldn't even look at the car or go smell the odor as "it was not drivable and needed to have the body work done first." i was told they would smell for the odor after the body was fixed.

STEERING

this is my second 2008 crv - my first i owned for 1-2 days before returning to dealership to tell them the front end was not balanced correctly. they kept the car for a week trying to correct the problem and could not. i refused to keep it and i received a new car a week later. however, since then i am now on my third set of tires - even though i rotate, align and balance regularly and i just reached 40,000 miles on my car. to make matters worse i just failed my state inspection due to a failed seal and leak in the steering rack and pinion area. of course this is not under warranty now. however, it's not a wear and tear item - it's a safety issue - but nonetheless not covered under warranty. the dealership is going to pay for the part $1,200, but i must pay for the labor of just under $800.00 . unfortunately i'm not all that positive the new part they will be putting in is any better than the faulty one that is already in my car! i have already put three sets of tires on this second new car and now i must pay for yet another faulty issue. perhaps the wheel balance issue is related to the faulty steering as they are connected. does someone have to die before honda will recognize they have a real problem with the cr-v?? my next car will not be a honda!

TIRES

after having the car serviced at the dealership (oil change) i went to have the tires rotated. on the drive home the car was pulling to the right very hard and i had to fight to keep the car on the road. discussed the problem with the tire store and took the car back the next day. after numerous tire rotations nothing fixed the problem and the car was now straying to the left, if i made a left hand turn, on top of pulling to the right, if i made a right hand turn. neither the dealership or the tire store had ever experienced this, nor did they know what the problem was. then i had the mechanic, from the dealership, drive the car and he blamed it on the tire pressure being off 5 pounds in the front vs the rear. however, he had the car in service department for 20-25 minutes and i did not see what was done to the car. then he explaned it was all fixed, it should drive normally and the tire pressure was the problem. the tires are not wearing evenly and i am on my second set. i rotate/balance them when required and keep all receipts. i was also told there was an oil leak in the front crank seal with no explanation as to why. my concern is the with the steering pulling so hard to the right and at issue is safety. the dealership could not explain why it was pulling either direction and blaming it on the tires and air pressure. i don't buy that at all. now it drives straight down the road and does not pull. but what caused it to do this in the first place? will this happen again? is there a honda recall and if not why? *tt

every time the right front passenger door is unlocked either by the switch or manually, it immediately re-locks itself making it almost impossible to open the door. to open the door, you must know to be holding on the handle and pull it in the split second after you activate the un-lock button. this could be extremely dangerous in a situation where the passenger had to get out of the car immediately as in case of a fire, submerging in water or after a wreck. i am frightened to think what would happen in one of these cases and a child or unsuspecting adult were in the vehicle and could not get out. of course, there are many other scenarios where the passenger would have to get out in a hurry and this defective locking mechanism would prevent their escape.

the vehicle drifts to the right. this drift has nothing to do with the crown of the road. it drifts to the right on perfectly flat roads. i thought the wheels needed to be aligned, but after the first wheel alignment (at the honda dealer in tallahassee) the problem persisted and continued to persist after several more attempts to align the wheels. the dealership consulted with the manufacturer in california and subsequently the right front strut was replaced. that did not solve the problem. the dealership said that both it and the manufacturer were aware of the problem and that it could not be fixed. the dealer called it "memory steer" and said it was a known problem with the 2008 cr-v. they also mentioned that it might have something to do with being unable to adjust the camber on this vehicle. i've noted numerous similar complaints on the internet. i took the vehicle to the dealer approximately seven times over the course of a couple of months and the problem was not fixed. the vehicle still drifts to the right. it needs to be fixed. (the vehicle mileage is the mileage at the time i purchased this pre-owned vehicle. i purchased it in des moines, iowa and now live in tallahassee, fl.).

the locks on the honda cr-v 2008 are defective and can pose a serious safety issue. the locks on the door lock at will, won't unlock when i try to unlock them, and lock while i'm driving and/or putting the reverse. passengers cannot get out of the car, even after i press the unlock button on both the door and the key. i fear that my toddler is going to get locked into the vehicle and/or trapped in if we are in an accident. this is a recurring problem that started just a few months after i bought the vehicle and many other honda cr-v owners are reporting the same issue, yet honda has not issued a recall for these defective locks. please address this issue as a safety issue and urge them to recall these locks.

STRUCTURE

front passanger door lock will briefly unlock then on its own lock itself. you have to force the door lock open just to get out and once the lock opens it slowly locks itself. the key fob and lock switch will briefly unlock the latch. (we do have factory installed alarm). my wife also noticed dome light no longer coming on (might just be dead bulb). this could be a huge issue in an accident if passenger or emergency personal are unable to open door due to lock always locking itself. a lot of force is needed to unlock the door. it seems like the door actuator is getting a lock signal and staying in the locked position. again you can momentarily manually force the door lock open and with the switch/keyfob. recent repairs: we did recently replace the car battery because the car lost electrical power (car would not start). we also just replaced the ac/heater blower motor because when the hvac was powered on we heard very loud whirling/clicking noise. we also just changed all four struts because they were leaking but no electrical was touched during this repair.

as soon as you would unlock the automatic doors locks - the front driver door, it would quickly lock back up, you had to force it to unlock once it locked on its own, you can use the clicker or the unlock button, but you had to be very quick to be able to unlock it - you had to have your one hand on the door handle and the other hand on the unlock button - or else you can't get out that door. once you get to speeds of 5 mph the doors will automatically lock, the back driver door started to slowly unlock while driving, while the car was stopped, it would lock once you got to the 5 mph but then start unlocking again. i replaced the actuators for the driver side doors and now the passenger back door lock started making noises and is starting to unlock on its own. called honda and they said it must happen often because they have the parts for it. i asked if there was a recall and they said no, so i had to purchase the parts.

i could not get into the car one evening when the lights were accidently on. tried honda remote, tried actual key. called tow truck 1, 2 and 3 over course of 2 days. they could not unlock it. needed wheel lift tow-truck (not bed truck) so not to drag it (car is in park in my driveway in my garage). i don't want any chance to mess up my transmission. to get my car down the driveway, i had to get my car jack with wheels. i slowly raised the front car (front wheel drive and park) where gravity would pull the car down the driveway. dangerous but i had to do it. from my search on the internet, this is a common problem with cr-v's. its a locking actuator that has to be repaired and honda has admitted to having this problem. i just bought it certified 2.5 months ago from a honda dealership. i have all the paperwork but no warranty. this is a safety issue. i'm a mechanical engineer, working as a system safety engineer for a major aerospace company. tow truck company 1, 2 and 3 could not open the vehicle because they could not unlock it when they pressed on the unlock button or could not unlock with the lock-latch as they physically pulled it or when they pulled the physical handle to open it. its all electrical. no mechanical open even though there is a handle, not even the tail door has a mechanical open latch. you have to touch it to open, again electrical. what happens if someone gets trapped inside with electrial problems? is this a safety concern? yes. in my professional opinion it is. if automakers choose to design vehicles with electrical activations, they must be able to provide at least a mechanical option for safety reasons. in this case, i honestly believe they must recall this defective feature. people will have this same problem and it will get worse as automotive industry continually becomes more electric. please, protect the drivers and their families. thanks

this problem concerns the automatic child safety door lock function. approximately three months ago, the door locks began to malfunction and continuously lock and unlock themselves whenever the car reached 9 or 10 miles per hour. when the car reaches this speed while either accelerating or slowing down, the locks either lock themselves or unlock themselves depending on their previous position. i drive in los angeles traffic, so this is a constant problem and i cannot afford to fix it at $200+ per door. these automatic locks (particularly the rear seat ones) are supposed to function to prevent a child or other passenger from accidentally opening a door when the car is in motion. they are also supposed to function to keep an intruder from being able to open the door from outside the car while the car is temporarily stopped. this is a terrible safety hazard for all children riding in the rear seat of the car, but it could also be dangerous for adults who might grab the handle to stabilize themselves around turns. if they were to accidentally hang on to the door handle, it could open the door while the car is in motion. it is apparently a recurring problem on the 2006, 2007 and 2008 models of the cr-v according to the honda forum on edmunds.com. there needs to be a recall issued because of the safety issues concerned with this problem. i am currently afraid to let my grandchildren ride in my car.

the passenger door locks and unlocks randomly and it has been recurring more often recently. it now makes a terrible sound when it unlocks. i'm concerned about the safety of the passenger because there is no way for the passenger to unlock the door; the driver has to push the button to unlock and the passenger has only a split second to take advantage of the unlocked door before it relocks again. there would be no way for the passenger to get out of the car through the door in case of an emergency.

rear lock initially not working and actuator was replaced for approximately $250. approximately 1 month later all door locks repeatedly attempted to lock and unlock while driving as front door actuator malfunctioned. i was unable to lock front door electrically, with key or by manually pushing lock. all doors would not lock automatically while driving but repeatedly attempted to lock making loud noise while driving. front and second rear door actuators now need to be replaced at same cost. should i have to pay $750 to be able to safely ride in car with doors locked or lock car when unattended. i am sure the fourth lock will go soon at this rate. the car was not able to be locked manually and there was now way to stop the repeated loud noise while driving which would have allowed me not to pay the high cost of repair /

the passenger side rear door started to unlock after locking the vehicle. this will happen either while driving or when remote locking the car. it seems the lock mechanism slowing opens on its own. i just took a look at the door, but i don't see any physical damage to the latch or handles. i have read on line many others have had this same problem and honda is not taking any ownership of this failure of the door lock actuator. i am very concerned since this does happen to the passengers side rear door where i have my 3 year's old child seat.

there is a problem with the locks. simply all doors are locking and unlocking by itself while in motion. additionally right rear door cant ever be locked leaving all valuable unprotected at all times. when pressing lock button on the remote all doors lock except the right rear which locks and quickly unlocks by itself. this is really annoying and unacceptable since cant be sure anymore if car is locked or not without checking all the doors. this simply leaves my honda open to anybody. having said that after owning 6 hondas i am starting to notice different brands more and more since nothing really ever gets recalled after so many complains from many other individuals. fixing such problems is very expensive as well.

the vehicles brakes are horrible, it the front rotors mostly, they deteriorate very quickly along with the high quality brake pads. i replaced the rotors at 70,000 and they are already getting damaged . there has been an unsettling vibration in the braking/steering system since we bought the car . i am convinced that honda no longer makes quality vehicles and the sooner they stop making cars the better. at 25,000 miles we had the ac clutch start to slip on us while we were in about 120'f temps in bon our way to bullhead city. we arrived completely soaked in sweat and with the beginning stages of chapped lips from the hot air blowing from the ac. we had an air leak in the moon roof since we bought it, all honda did was make us waste our time while the mickey moused the seal, on the way home from the dealers after they supposedly fixed it ,it started making the whistle again after i opened and closed it. i had grease prints all over the head liner from that experience.the leather arm rest started bubbling and peeling about a year after the purchase, it looks horrible . i have had better used cars then this. i have nothing to say about honda except if you value your life and your families life and value what you buy with your hard earned money . then don't ever ever buy a honda. they deserve to go out of business and be sued by every person that ever bought from them .

on march 21, 2012, i took my2008 honda crv for service .my power door locks were malfunctioning.. they would constantly lock and un lock as i was driving. they would be clicking lock and unlock , dealer claimed i needed an actuator assembly at the cost of app. $250. i naturally had it repaired as it was a serious safety concern, since my small grandsons are in the back. on july 10, 2013 i returned with the identical door lock problem. since i had driven more than 12,000 miles since the last repair , this was repair was not covered under warranty. after expressing my dissatisfaction, the dealer supposedly called honda directly and honda agreed to pay half of repair costs. my cost -$87.00. since it was a major safetyconcern for me, i agreed. guess what? two days later the same problem with the door locks re occurred. they are constantly clicking open and closed.when i called the dealer they told me it's probably an underlying electrical problem. i am reluctant to spend anymore on this apparently unfixable issue, but it is a serious safety issue, especially when young children and infants are required by law to be in the backseat. judging by the number of complaints on this website i would like to see the nhtsa pressure honda motors to assume responsibility for this electrical malfunction.

in april of this year (2013), the 2008 honda crv-ex that i purchase certified, pre-owned in october 2012, began having problems with the door locks. as i was driving, the locks would automatically unlock and lock themselves every time i came to a stop and started driving again. the problem stopped after a few days, then a few weeks later, started occurring again. before i called to have it checked, it stopped, but then i would hear a squealing sound immediately after the doors were locked upon acceleration. all of these issues stopped, but then about a week ago (july 2013), both doors on the passenger side started relocking themselves within 3 seconds of being unlocked by either the key fob or from the driver side door. they cannot be locked or unlocked manually, even with auto lock off. they also cannot be opened from the inside by the passenger. this is a serious safety issue for my child, who would not be able to open his door and exit immediately in the case of an emergency. in addition to this problem, the tire pressure monitoring system (tpms) light is on permanently on my dashboard. according to the dealer technician i spoke with, this means the tpms has stopped communicating with the sensors on at least one of my tires. this is a hazard in that i could have dangerously low tire pressure and would not know it, which could lead to a blow out at high freeway speeds. this same technician reported he has seen "quite a few" 2007 and 2008 crvs coming in with this issue. i can work around this issue by frequently checking tire pressure myself, but it remains that i should not have to do this, when i paid for a vehicle that should be doing it for me.

i bought my car brand new in november 2007. it is a 2008 honda cr-v 5dr 2wd ex. a couple/few years back, the locks started acting up. it was always the same two, the front passenger door and the rear door. i would push the unlock button on my key, and the other 3 doors would unlock, but those 2 would not. i tried using the unlock/lock buttons on the driver's door, and after hitting the lock button first and then unlock several times, it would work and those 2 doors would eventually unlock. and then sometimes all of a sudden they would start unlocking again using the key. this has been an ongoing annoyance for the past 2-3 years. i can't remember the exact date or mileage when it first happened. probably about a year ago, they finally stopped completely. they will not unlock at all using the key or the driver's door. the passenger one, of course, i can manually unlock from the inside if needed. but the rear i have absolutely no way of opening that door. completely ridiculous!!! it has been a complete pain to not have that storage area. i have had to lower the back seats to put anything in there. it also caused me to incur damage to my car this year. i had a flat and needed the spare tire. well, i had to climb through the doors into the back where my spare was, only to realize you couldn't get to the spare because the rear door was in the way. so i had to rip the back flap to get to the tire. so that will cost me money to fix. this is in addition to the dealer telling me each actuator will cost over $300 to get replaced. after researching trying to find this actuator part, i came across the lawsuit and many many others with this problem. sounds like honda needs to recall this and pay for fixing their problem!!!

the first incident involved the back gate which would not unlock with the key fob. i tried locking/unlocking from the driver's interior door controls and also with the key fob. attempts were made with the car running, ignition turned to accessory, and also with the car turned off. nothing corrected the problem. this persisted into the next day when it started working without any particular intervention beyond my previous attempts. the problem reappeared a few days later, only now it is the front passenger door. i lock the car with the key fob, but the passenger door remains unlocked. the same is true when attempting to lock using the switch on the driver's door. like others who have posted on this site, this car also attempts to lock/unlock at unexpected times well above the usual speed where the automatic lock normally operates. this is a safety and security risk. my young passengers are at risk if the locks disengage. my property is not secure if the locks are not reliable. my personal safety is at risk if my alarm system fails to secure all doors. it is unsettling to consider the consequence of being unexpectedly trapped inside the car. it is equally troublesome to drive the car not knowing if my children and i may become locked out in the dark, in a parking deck, or in a remote location during travel. repairing each lock as it fails is a risky gamble, but i cannot afford to replace actuators (approx $250 x 5 doors) on every door as a preemptive repair, either.

i was ready to leave work when i pressed the unlock button on my key remote i noticed the car didn't unlock. i tried several more times and still nothing. i decided to try and unlock the car manually with the key and realized that wasn't working either all could do at that point was call a locksmith who after several tries was able to open the driver door which in turn allowed the rest of the doors to unlock. i called the local honda dealership and was told they had never heard of the car not being able to open manually and offered no other solution to my problem. after looking online i noticed this is a very common problem for honda crv's 2007 and newer. there is an issue of the door actuators. this could potentially be a life threatening defect as the doors open or lock on their own.

my 2008 honda crv in 2010 began having problems with the rear door lock and then the hatch lock. when i put the rear door lock into child safety mode and took it off child safety mode, the door lock would not unlock. it kept locking and i would have to manually press down on the lock button in order to open the door from the outside. i took it to a honda car dealership service dept. and was told it was the actuator and it happens often to honda vehicles and it would cost me $380 to repair it even thought the part i was told was actually only $80 dollars. to me and to everyone else this has happened to, this is obviously a manufacturer's defect if it happens often to honda vehicles. i refused the repair because it was very expensive. later in a few weeks, my hatch would not unlock unless the defective rear door lock was also unlocked. now, it is 2014 and as of friday, 2/28/14, all my locks are now locking immediately after i used my automatic door unlock on my key fob. i can't even get into my car unless i'm quick about it before it locks on me again. then when i want to get out of my car and the door unlocks, before i can even open the door to get out of my car, all the locks lock up again without my having done anything. this is a safety hazard for me and my family. the door locks are defective and honda should take responsibility to fix these defects. here is the link to arfc.org which has a list of complaints by other honda crv owners having the same defective issues: http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2008/honda/cr-v/latches_locks_linkages/problem.aspx. is it necessary for honda driver or their children or other family member go to their grave until this defect is addressed? i urge the nhtsa board to read all the complaints and take action to make honda set a recall for this defect so that honda crv and other honda vehicle owners are safer on the road.

locks started locking within a second of being unlocked. so i could unlock the doors with the key button and pull quickly to open the door to get in. the locks would engage as soon as i got in. however, if i tried to manually unlock the door from inside, i would have to use two hands, and it was difficult. once the doors closed the locks would immediately engage. as it turns out i locked my purse and keys inside. my spare key would not open it. there was no manual override! this is my concern. in case of an accident or a child inside, there was no way to open, not even with a key. had the car towed to the dealer and it has been fixed, an actuator (?).

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

door locks remain unlocked or locked. in once case rear right door does not lock whether you do it manually or automatically. this is leaving children exposed to unsafe condition where the door may open while car is in motion if they played with the door handle. a week later, front right door does not unlock at all whether you do it manually or automatically. in an unfortunate situation, one cannot unlock the door to escape the vehicle in an unfortunate situation. to me both of these are serious safety concerns. i am going to the dealer to have it take a look, but honda needs to address the issue by recalling the door locking mechanism.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

was driving down the road and i heard my doors lock again. they usually only lock when i put the vehicle in drive and not again during that particular trip. it kept doing it after i would come to a stop and then accelerate. now it makes a screeching noise everytime i put it into drive. sometimes it locks, sometimes it doesn't. the dealer wants 330.00 per door to change out the actuator. i understand honda is involved in a class action lawsuit over this. i cannot figure out why they would not issue a voluntary recall over this. there are safety issues involved for their customers. honda usually has a great reputation for making a reliable and affordable vehicle. they should be concerned about their customers, not the bottom line. they will lose customers...

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

my car first began automatically locking constantly every time i released the brake pedal and began to accelerate with the gas pedal. a few weeks later i noticed that the passenger side front and rear doors were no longer locking. i tried to lock them manually but they automatically unlock. my car is still continuing to automatically lock every time i switch from the brake to gas pedal only now it makes a very loud, startling buzz sound from the front passenger door with each lock. the issues seem to fluctuate between not locking at all, locking constantly, and buzzing loudly with each lock each time i drive the car. it also seems that the child locks are activating themselves as you cannot open either passenger door from the inside of the car. this is becoming a grave safety concern being that i cannot lock my doors properly. i became very frustrated to find that this seems to be quite a common problem with cr-v's made between 2007-2011 and honda has not recalled them. fixing this issue through the dealer is very costly and does not promise to correct the issue. honda campaigns to "start something special". i have yet to see what it is that they have started that is so "special" when it comes to repairing their own mistakes to benefit the safety and convenience of their loyal customers.

STEERING

the 2008 honda crv has issues with the power steering system. ~3 years after i purchased the new car, i was told by honda express service that the power steering fluid level was low when i was doing oil change. but the dealership couldn't identify a leak. when the vehicle was 6 years old, the leak finally showed up, and the whole rack&pinion needs to be replaced. of course, the fluid is flammable. the slow leak doesn't show up till a certain amount has been gathered, which makes it a fire hazard not easy to identify. dealer says it's a common issue, but honda never admitted it, not to say a recall on the problematic seal.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

the car's auto-lock system has been designed to automatically lock the car doors when driving. however, one of the doors started to automatically unlock itself. so, whenever the car is stationary (i.e. stopped at a red light or stop sign) and then goes into drive, the car would automatically lock but then the one door will unlock. even when the car has been parked and turned off, the door will not stay locked thereby posing a big risk in an event of someone trying to enter into the car or steal something.

i also have a honda crv 2008. the left rear door started unlocking while the vehicle was in operation. i used to be able to play with the doors and the locking mechanism a bit and finally get it to stay locked. however, since it first started, it has gotten progressively worse and now is not locking at all which presents both a safety and security risk. i spoke with honda and there is no recall on this safety/security issue. however findlaw.com says there is a recall for 2012 crvs and acura ilxs for this same issue. i am curious as to why it was not extended to all crvs experiencing this same problem.
