i just bought a 2006 sebring convertible touring edition, i had driven to work 23 freeway miles. i noticed there was a lot of wind noise with the top up. i checked to make sure it was latched properly. on the way home i had the same wind noise(it was a windy day) after 20 miles on the freeway at 65 mph in rush hour traffic, the top gave way & blew back. you can see where the latch scraped. i almost had an accident in rush hour traffic. i think their is a seal defect. the dealer claims i was at fault, and it was not latched properly. the car had been purchased 4/27/06. *jb

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

this is a 2006 sebring touring, bought with around 33,00 miles. the first night i tried this car, the check engine light came on with them saying they would fix it. it didn't come back on for months...after the warranty was up. i have had this car almost a year and it had a 30 day warranty. i took it back at least once a week for the warranty with them saying they could find nothing wrong. the brakes make rubbing noises, even though i was told they put on new brake shoes and it wobbles, even though they said they calibrated the rotors and fixed them. it jumps when you stop and on take off it just took it to another shop in another town and was told they couldn't find any wrong other than it needed an update and that this should take care of 99% of my problems if not all. after paying out 178.45, it do not take care of the problem. the also told me that i needed a new fuel pump and that one of the problems was it was pumping too much fuel and that this would eventually do damage to other parts of the engine and i would be looking at more than just the fuel pump to replace but they didn't think the car would just quit on me right now, but i was looking at problems on down the road. so now, i am looking at around 450.00 for the fuel pump and labor and still don't know if that is the problem. in july i had about an inch plus water in my passenger rear floor board, after sucking the water up several times, they finally said i needed a new type of drain line on the air conditioner, but come to find out, it had the new line. i did get the line blown out because they said that the air conditioner line getting clogged is a problem. the water has not come back, yet. the air conditioner makes like a hum-hum noise, then it will quit and the car sounds quiet for a few min, and then it starts again. this is definitely a car i am dissatisfied with. i had bought 3 sets of wiper blades and none of them seem to sit on the windshield correctly to get the water off.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

i bought my sebring sedan in may of 2006 with 5 miles on it. for starters, i immediately had issues with the radio cutting out. i took it back to the dealership asap, and they claimed to have fixed it, but didn't. my second problem was my horn. it all of a sudden started sounding muffled, if it sounded at all. i called about that problem and they told me to bring it in. which i would have, but over that weekend out of nowhere, my car stalled out on me without any kind of warning lights or gauges. i called a local towing company to pick it up, and they immediately told me that they could see right off the bat that i had a large hole in my oil pan, and all of the oil had probably leaked out. so i told them just to go ahead and replace it and we would go from there, thinking that would be the end of it. unfortunately, i was wrong. after they replaced the oil pan, they soon realized that my engine had seized. so assuming the dealership would be the ones to install the new engine, i had the car towed back to my house until i confirmed things with the dealership. i also figured that because the car was barely a year old, it should be covered under my warranty. i was wrong again. so, long story a little shorter, the dealership refused to pay for any of the new engine, nor did they even give me a good price on one. their cheapest one was pretty much the price of another mechanics most expensive. so, because i had the engine replaced somewhere else, my warranty for almost everything else was void. since then, i have had nothing but problems out of it, and its going to break down for good soon because i cannot afford to keep up with the problems. my engine light is currently on, and has been for about 6 months, i just recently had an antifreeze leak fixed, i think there may be a transmission problem, and my horn still doesn't work. those are just to name a few. it has been the most unreliable vehicle i have ever owned. i am actually thinking of letting the bank just take it.

tl*the contact owns a 2006 chrysler sebring. while driving 20 mph, the contact heard a knocking noise coming from the engine compartment. he pulled over and noticed a large amount of oil leaking from underneath the vehicle. he shut off the engine and added a quart of oil into the vehicle, which stopped the leaking. once the vehicle was started again, the leaking returned. the dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that the crankshaft oil seal had been pushed out due to excessive play. they further stated that the vehicle needed a new engine. the manufacturer stated that they would not be responsible for the repairs. the owner believes that due to the year of the vehicle and the mileage, the failure should not be occurring. the current and failure mileages were 46,150.

my 2006 sebring is having horn problems again. in august of 2007, i had it in the dealer to do a warranty fix on the "air bag module", which was causing my horn to sound at odd times and prolonged durations. now, in april of 2009 the problem has returned. this time there is no warranty coverage and the price to fix is ridiculously high. i have searched online and have found this problem to be very common with chrysler vehicles. i think chrysler should issue a recall on affected vehicles. a working horn is a safety requirement in many states. my state inspection is due by the end of this month and i have to have it fixed in order to legally drive in texas.

there has been a film on the windshield ever since i bought this car. i have tried to clean it with several things advised and even took it to a place that cleans vehicles in our area, but no matter what, the film is still there. i have bought at least 3 new, different types of windshield wipers. there is a spot here and there on the windshield where you will have clear vision but it is not where it is needed. i have tried cleaning the blades also because of build up and the squeak is awful. this car has been the biggest disappointment and lemon that i have ever bought.

low power when trying to accelerate. i was told my car was getting too much fuel. i took my car into the shop because of water in my back floor board and asked them to check out the check engine light coming on and that when hooked to the a readout meter that they could find nothing other than 1 time about misfiring. when they did some rather expensive tests, i was told that my car is getting too much fuel. it feels like it just kind of bogs down at times when trying to increase the speed...you push the gas pedal and it just doesn't want to increase the speed. i was also told that this car is made to go fast and that it doesn't like going slow.

i have a 2006 sebring with a 2.4l engine that has had the seals replaced twice and it still kept pouring oil. my original mechanic said there was nothing more he could do and the engine should be replaced. i was referred to anther mechanic by a friend who did a lot more work in trying to fnd out why they could not fix the oil leak. he found out that the 2005 and 2006 engines were missing a thrust bearing and so it kept pushing the crankshaft against the timing belt which pushed out the front seal. chrysler fixed the design by adding a second thrust bearing with a new revision to the engine. after 8 weeks and $5500 of repair and rental builds, i have a new half block and it seems to be fxed. i think chrysler should have put out a recall on these motors since there was a design flaw fixed in the new version of the 2.4l engine and short block. it is not safe to be driving a car leaking oil nor fair for consumers to eat the cost of the repair when it was an engine design error. i am paying car payments on top of having to pay for a chrysler design flaw. thanks for any info you can give.

bought the 2006 sebring with 32,000 miles on it, just before the warranty expired. it now has 62,000 miles on it, and it leaking oil profusely. i had my mechanically inclined father look at it, and it appears to be an issue with the crankshaft. as i have been looking online, this appears to be a recurring problem with these vehicles, and worse yet, if it starts to become a problem before the warranty is up, dealers are simply replacing the seal, essentially putting a band-aid on the bigger issue and leaving the expense up to the consumer to deal with. at this time i think i caught it before it got the chance to lock my engine up, i just thank my lucky stars that i had to drop my son off to school on a cold day and had left the engine to idle while i walked him to the door, as the engine only leaks while running. had this not have been the case, i was about to travel to a town that takes over an hour to get to, taking a road with virtually no good places to stop, and many "dead-zones" which would have made getting assistance nearly impossible and potentially dangerous. i am very disappointed and will not be choosing chrysler for any future vehicles, unless this problem is rectified.

in the middle of the night and then while driving, the horn will begin to blare (like someone laying on it without letting up) for 30 seconds or more. i initially took the car to my local mechanic who could not reduplicated the issue and even performed an electrical diagnostic test. one week after getting the car back from the mechanic who could not find the issue, the horn blared in the middle of the night again. i believe this is a safety issue because, this morning, i will need to deactivate the horn relay again. if the horn goes off in the middle of traffic which it has done to me before, it can cause confusion and anger. without the horn, however, i do not have the means to alert another driver of a potential incident (example, another driver attempting to change lanes and not realizing i am in lane next to them). also, i understand i am not the first one to complain about this exact same issue. from other complainants, i see that the horn is tied in with the airbag assembly in the steering wheel/column, so apparently the airbag is affiliated in this malfunction, again a safety issue and very expensive repair i cannot afford to make.

i was driving down the road and the horn started blowing by itself! this is a huge safety issue!!!!! i almost had an accident because of this happening. i am handicapped and have my grandchildren in my car. this is such a distraction to my neighbors and to other drivers on the road. other drivers are distracted by the noise which is a safety hazard! i have had the car for 6 yrs and have never received any information about this problem. but in doing some research there are many other cars like mine that have the same problem. this is a grave situation with this happening. why isn't chrysler doing anything to fix this problem in their cars? would chryslers upper echelon put their families in these cars and send them off to drive on the highways with the horn randomly honking and not being able to stop it while driving a vehicle? funny how people just can't put themselves in other peoples places because of their pompousness and narcissism. this needs to be addressed yesterday!!! i can promise chrysler, if something happens, to anyone, because of this safety issue, especially in my family, because they we negligent in fixing the horn problem, i will see them in court with a good lawyer!!!!!!!! that you can bet on!

at first i thought it was my own inept use of the horn that i was not pressing it right, but the horn would not sound when warning other drivers of a dangerous situation so i didn't realize that the horn was actually defective. a car was traveling through a red light and i needed to sound my horn to warn on-coming traffic that there was danger and the horn would not go off and the accident happened right in front of me. perhaps my horn may not have prevented the accident but it would have helped. the horn sometimes worked and sometimes didn't but i just thought that i was always pressing the wrong place on the steering wheel. since may 1, 2013, my horn just decides to sound at any time. it seems to be making up for lost time!?! it not only causes me to pull over in heavy traffic but it makes other drivers pull over as well. people are looking for danger when there is none. it is a real problem and i know others with my make and model have been having the same problem. the chrysler dealership said that the horn must be fixed for safety issues and requires the horn and airbag to be replaced (mega expensive). but, if they replace the horn with the same assembly, what prevents it from being defective again? is the air-bag part of the problem, if so, is it defective too? these are questions that the dealership will not answer. the part needs to be redesigned so that this issue does not pose a problem again after being fixed.

this is a safety issue not only for the driver of the car the others on the road with them! i was just going down the road and the horn starting going off all by itself. finally took out the fuse. the horn just goes off randomly. it went off when hitting unlock button on remote and or just driving. then took it to my mechanic and he said that the horn pad assembly which was a dealer only part had to be replaced some sensor or something. so right now i have just left the fuse out, because it is an expensive fix. $1000.00. i agree with all of the other people that chrysler should be fixing this issue. removing the fuse has caused the air bag functions to be unknown. removing the fuse to stop the horn also affects part of the fueling system according to the manual (same fuse). removing the fuse has caused us not to be able to use our horn incase something ran in front of the car or to alarm others of harm. the horn is a function of safety and warning. this is standard on all cars as a precaution and warning system. this is not a part of the car that is special ordered, these come standard with all cars. so why is chrysler not paying for this safety issue? your company has been run into the ground with recalls and safety measures not being taken seriously enough. time to act on this situation; with over 70 complaints this must not be a whim. sad part is this is not the only issue with this car three recalls on it and the dealer sold the car anyway without repairing recalls.

the horn started blowing on its own while i was driving on a local interstate. it caused the car next to me to swerve thinking i was blowing at them. i also got several angry looks. thankfully the horn eventually (5 minutes) stopped & i did not encounter bumper to bumper traffic. since the first incident it has happened several more times sometimes when driving and sometimes when parked. i also had a problem when a car pulled out in front of me and the horn would not blow when pushed but did start blowing a few seconds later and would not stop. this a very dangerous situation when the horn is needed & does not blow & is also a problem when it blows when it is not supposed to. i can imagine how i would feel if while sitting in stopped traffic the car behind me would lay on their horn for several minutes for no apparent reason. i have been told if you remove the air bag relay or unplug the horn wire the horn will stop blowing. this of course would leave you without a horn, which is not a good situation. i have also been told but have not confirmed that by unplugging the horn relay, it makes the drivers airbag inoperative (definitely a safety issue). the problem appears to be in the horn switch located on top of the air bag. i have been told by a chrysler dealer that the entire air bag needs to be replaced. if the horn does not blow when pushed or blows when it is not pushed it is a real safety concern not to mention if you were in a serious crash & the horn relay was removed causing the air bag not to deploy.

when i unlocked the car remotely, the horn sounded continuously for more than a full minute. it happened a second time about a week later, but continued on and off for a few minutes after i drove a short distance. i have read online of many similar happenings, and in most cases, it looks like a possible repair for about $1,000. most seem to be removing a fuse that also disables the air bag. if the air bags are life savers, do we have to wait for a death for chrysler and the government to do something about it. ...updated 11-06-13 *bf

horn or alarm randomly goes off. impossible to stop, it does so eventually on its own. this is on entry to the car, whether by key, key fob, or even opening trunk..and when driving at speed randomly. is this not a serious safety issue? did a dealer check and they could not find anything. no recalls, no problems from chrysler...hard to believe since i see many complaints online that point to a horn pad assembly problem that costs $1000 to fix. this is a low mileage low used car, i am the second owner, the first being my father. not a lot of horn blowing. took in again to dealer, called chrysler, no info from either. returned to the dealer with mechanic and replicated the problem, and he finally agreed it might be the horn assembly, and removed the horn fuse. apparently there is a foil that gets worn through causing a short activating the horn, and the only way to fix is a reassembly. this is not a fix, this is a faulty manufacturing issue (materials skimping to cut corners). this is not a way to be a long time manufacturer and maintain the quality expected of american cars. its awful and unsafe. they also led the mechanic around in circles testing computers and all sorts of things when 5 min on the internet directed me to the problem and after a quick test proved true. such a waste of time.
