VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

tl* the contact owns a 2013 chrysler 200. the contact stated while driving at highway speeds, his vehicle suddenly accelerated without any warning. the vehicle crossed three busy highway lanes. in order to stop the vehicle from accelerating he had to shift into neutral gear and coast to the side of the road. the vehicle was later taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the mechanic advised him they were unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. the failure and current mileage was approximately 2,600. the vin was unavailable.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

i have been researching complaints on my brand-new 2013 chrysler 200 limited sport; it seems that there is some kind of "shutter" which limits the forward visibility of the low-beams. as a result, any traveling at the posted speed limit, i.e. above 35 mph, at night, you are struggling to see, and "overdriving" the headlights. forget about when you are in traffic, with cars approaching, quite literally, you cannot see 40 yards. if a pedestrian darts out, you will not be able to see well enough to react. in my area, there are a great many deer; if i cannot let cars around me, so i am able to use my high beams, i will not be able to see in time. i am very concerned about this issue. even with the equipped driving lamps on, you still cannot see further. the driving lamps spread to the sides, but not even as far as half of the headlamp distance. the car is wonderful otherwise; but i am truly scared to drive at night with it. i have 20/20 vision with above average night vision, and i still have difficulty; my wife cannot drive my vehicle, and will not at night.

STEERING

i have a 2013 chrysler 200 that was purchased in 11/12, it has 2810 miles on it and is falling apart. i took in to the shop because the brakes were squealing and there was a rubbing sound in the front end. the brakes were replaced and the rotors were scuffed and now the rack n pinion will need to be replaced on tuesday. the car sounds as if it has 300,000 miles instead of less than 3000. the tappets are rattling when it idles at a stop light and the transmission feels like it slams from 2nd to 3rd. this just started when i was returning home from having it in the shop. i will never purchase another chrysler product and when this one is paid for in 2015 i will get trade it because the car is not safe, in my opinion. i had planned on giving it to my son but i do not wish him to be hurt in an unsafe vehicle that had mechanical when it had less than 3000 miles on it. i am not reporting the service department because they did listen to me and fixed some of the issues with parts they had in stock, but had to order the rack n pinion as to replace it on tuesday. i feel these are serious issues that should be addressed before a car owner is hurt or killed. i will be contacting someone possibly the highway safety and transportation board about these issues so that a recall can be issued or it can be noted and kept on file for future problems.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

this vehicle as a "shutter" on the headlamp. this goes down on low beams and up on high beams. i am unable to drive this vehicle at night, the head lights do not shine down the road, and clearly not be able to see. this is a huge danger issue, that needs to be addressed. dealership is saying...sorry, nothing that can be done. please help me.

engine misfires and stalls at start up and stall at stop signs. manufactured date 09-28-2012 as of july 2 2013 chrysler has not fix the problem. they tell us that they are working on it. it has been over a month without a solution.

2013 chrysler 200. consumer writes in regards to vehicle acceleration problems. *smd the consumer stated when accelerating from a dead stop or at any speed, the vehicle would pull to the right, unless he held the steering wheel very tight, in order to keep the vehicle straight. the dealer performed an alignment. however, the problem continued. chrysler claimed it was normal.

POWER TRAIN

transmission disengaged on the highway and the car coasted to a stop. after waiting 20 min i was able to limp off the highway, but the transmission would not shift out of first gear.

i started the 2013 chrysler 200 and shifted the transmission into "drive". with my foot still on the brake pedal, i checked the mileage on our new car and it read 139 miles. i could feel the transmission engage then i felt what seemed to be a second engagement before i took my foot off the brake. as soon as i began driving i noticed the vehicle was not shifting out of first (1st) gear. i stopped the car and shifted through park, neutral and manual in an attempt to free up the transmission but when i started driving again it still would not transition out of first (1st) gear even when put in the manual shift mode. i drove it directly to the dealer without turning off the vehicle, and after a test drive they confirmed that it was not shifting but stated they could not find a code indicating any problem. they restarted the vehicle and it began to function normally again. the dealer said there was nothing they could do, and to bring it back if it happened again.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

this vehicle has "shutter" headlights which make it unsafe to drive this vehicle at night. the seeing distance is very low. when high beams are on, they do not shine down the road but to the trees. oncoming traffic does not even notice high beams are in use. i have spoken to the dealer and to chrysler and have been told that is how they are made and nothing can be done. i have read several other complaints / concerns on the same issue, and ram trucks are being recalled due to the same issue.

i bought my vehicle in may 2013. so far i had to make 3 trips to the dealership for check engine light. first, i was told it was the fuel cap, it was replaced. second, i was told it was the fuel cap/system again. third, i'm assuming it was for the same thing again, but this time i wasn't told anything. now my check engine light is on again. an again, it's probably gonna be the same thing again.

in december of 2012 - i purchased the 2013 - 200 chrysler 4dr v6. at about 3400 miles on odometer - it began with engine light off/on (have photo) but dealer cannot find issue nor reproduce, along with a thump/jolt when shifting gears, when driving between 10 - 40 mph. i have been to the dealer and had chrysler representative ride along and the thump occurred on 3 occasions within 15 min test drive. chrysler rep stated "this is a normal experience with chrysler autos" dealer but mopar additive in transmission to "help the gears shift smoother" it did for short while and then the thump started again. now at about 9000 miles on the auto and a week in the shop for diagnostics, thumping as shifting gears at times seem as if it might stall-out. dealer offers a trade-out but not able to honor that offer either after three weeks of negotiation. big disappointment with 200 chrysler - big $20,600.00 mistake - dealer only suggestion is to keep bringing the auto back? four trips to the dealers-shop they still are not able to resolve the engine light, nor transmission issue with thump/jolting when shifting gears??? a big vote of no confidence for 200 chrysler & planet dodge chrysler jeep who has a defective transmission thump/jolt when shifting gears at random times. i am fearful this will cost a big problem in near future. *tt

the headlights on the 2013 chrysler 200 lx z are so bad that you can not see anything at night. their is only one blub for high and low beam. all the light does is drop a piece of plastic over hilf of the headlight to make it low beam, which you can't see anything be on 15 feet ahead of you, and high beam isn't any better. i've tryed to get help from chrysler about this problem, they know it's there but nothing can be done about it. all you have to do is go on line and see where alot of chrysler 200 owners are saying the same thing. i live in east tenn. and one day i took a trip over the mountains, i started home after dark and had to really tailgate a car ahead of me to stay in the road, and road signs were not seen at all, i hope other owners of chrysler 200's are doing what i doing to get this problem fixed before alot of people really get hurt. thank you for letting me have my say.

while driving on an unlit 2 lane road i experienced ( the first of several instances) the most dangerous automobile lighting conditions of my 50 years of driving. trust me this is scary! the headlights have a shutter system for normal and bright headlight control that is so bad i felt the need to pull off of the road to consider continuing my travel. when the headlights are set to dim it is like driving in a dark tunnel with visibility of only the immediate 20 feet in front of the car with no visibility at all of anything to the side. nothing can be seen above about 5 feet of the road. when one encounters a turn in the road the driver is unable to see beyond the curve. i beg you to investigate this problem and force chrysler to replace the shutter system before someone is killed. please send someone from your organization out to drive one of these automobiles on a dark night on a road with no street lights. i dare them to do it more then once. thank you.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

vehicle would not allow cruise control to be set. after several attempts, cruise control engaged, but would not allow me to manually operate gas pedal and braking function. it took several braking attempts to disengage cruise control. pulled over and shut vehicle off, restarted and reentered highway then vehicle transmission would not seem to shift into gears and "roared" allowing tachometer to reach into high 5,500+ range. pulled over again, shut vehicle off. restarted vehicle, reentered highway and it operated sufficiently to get to dealer. after dealer did diagnostic, they discovered speed control switch was faulty and replaced immediately. car now operates properly since switch replacement and have had no further problem. also, transmission now shifts at proper levels and gas mileage has returned to original higher level.

POWER TRAIN

on 10/25/2013, while backing the vehicle from the parking space, the engine surged in reverse and it was necessary to push on the brake to stop the car from surging in reverse, this is without acceleration. stopped the car, placed in park and turned car off. turned car back on and the surging in reverse stopped. subsequently, on the way home i stopped at a stop light, and the car surged again, and i had to press the brake all the way to the floor to stop the vehicle from going forward. pulled off the side of the road when the stop light turned green, turned the car off again, and the problem stopped again. took it straight to the dealership where it was purchased and made an appointment for 10/28/2013 to have the problem studied. the service maintenance had a tsb 18-029-13 that we were not made aware of involving power train issues with the 2013 chrysler 200. dealership stated they updated pcm trans flash and the problem should now be resolved. will wait and see if this is the case. the vehicle has 5,157 miles and was purchased 07/22/2013.

we test drove a different car than the one we took delivery on and it seemed fine. we took delivery on this vehicle and have trouble since we drove it off the lot. when starting from a slow roll or a dead stop when you accelerate it violently pulled to the right. we returned this car and it was serviced. they did an alignment and checked tire pressure. it was improved but still pulled. secondly when driving on a less than perfect road the driver continually feels like a loss of control could happen at any time not to mention driving in windy conditions or the snow here in michigan. recently we had the vehicle back to a local dealer and was told the car has torque pull and it's normal. i asked about the wondering all over the road and the service rep said the service tech didn't notice anything wrong. note the road it was drove on is less than five old concrete. this vehicle requires two hands all the time. we feel as if there is a problem with this model chrysler 2013 200 and is not being addressed by chrysler. i have looked in several forums and have read about several other owners having the same trouble. any assistance in resolving this problem would be great.

this vehicle does not drive properly. the rpms run high and many times does not shift out of 5 gear while driving at high speeds. i have complained about this since i bought the vehicle, however have been told "that is how this car drives", "it is ok to red line your car". after several complaints the dealership gm finally agreed there was something wrong and the "flashed" my car. after that i was getting 30 mpg highway and it was shifting without me having to take my foot of the gas. less then 5,000 miles later it is back to the way it was. dealership now says it is fine, yet i am averaging on the interstate 22 - 25 mpgs. i am so frustrated with the service i am receiving.

SERVICE BRAKES

car has started to make a grinding and squeaking type noises when backing up. took to my dealer and he told me there aware of the problem, but there is no fix for it right now. we just have to live with it. i told him my wife is afraid to drive it she thinks that the brakes are going to go out. if chrysler doesn't fix this problem pretty soon, we'll be driving another car from a different manufacture!

vehicle has noise at steering assy. when driving .you could also feel it. took it to chrysler dealer and it was determined to be tie rods. how can a vehicle with only 6500 miles on it have bad tie-rods? they just don't make them like they use to.

when i start the car on a "cold" start - it pulses and acts as if it is going to die out. i have to push the gas for it to catch and run normal. i have contacted chrysler and they are telling me that i have to deal with it because it is safe to drive and they have no solution for the problem as of right now. no timeframe for the solution!! this is not fair. i bought this car new with 69 miles on it. drove it home which is about 40 miles home and the next morning it starts this junk. dealer said it was "normal" and most new cars do this. it also had a rubber burn smell. that too was said to be "normal".

this car has a bad blind spots in it, when your changing lanes you have better make sure that you look all the way around over your left shoulder before changing lanes or you will hit the car that's beside you, i could not see the car in the next lane and i put my turn signals on and got half way over and their was a car in the lane next to me and the car hit me on the front panel and the door, they charge me with improper lane change and i couldn't see this car in my mirror, when you back up in this car you had better be careful cannot see well out of the car to back up, using your mirrors you still cannot see everything.maybe the mirrors should be one size bigger, so you can see more of the road beside you. this cost me 2points on my license, hadn't had a ticket in 30 years, cost me 155.00 and 1,100.00 in damage to the car. this needs to be look into, very poor design on this . i understand their are recalls on this car, but i haven't gotton anything from the dealer yet and a problem with the engine, it will shut down when driving, causing loss of control of the car;

2013 chrysler 200 convertible was bought new and a few weeks after purchase, this cars transmission got stuck in 1st and would not shift...this is an automatic transmission...took it in and was told it was fixed...long story short...this same problem has occurred 7 times...the dealership...glen e. thomas in signal hill, ca. did all they could to repair the car and were always very nice and accommodating. this is a factory problem and it was just in again a 7th time in may 2014...it happens on the freeway and my wife refuses to drive the car anymore...i have a new car, not even a year old and less that 6000 miles and cannot get the transmission to work correctly...now the driver side door and window rattles and is very annoying...car has been in 2 times for that...love the car but it is not working properly and is very stressful and disturbing to me and my wife because we are always nervous that the problem could happen again and leave us in danger.

i was involved in an accident on sunday june 8, 2014. my son and i were crossing at an intersection after stopping at a flashing red light half way through the intersection we were hit by an suv moving at a high rate of speed. the vehicle struck us in the front passenger door at full speed knocking us all the way across the intersection and over the curb before we came to a stop at no point during the crash did the side curtain airbags deploy. my son was driving and i was in the passenger seat both of us ended up in the emergency room. him for his upper back and me for my lower back and my leg where the door was bent in and slammed into my leg.

within the last two months my passenger side seatbelt has jammed up twice. when it occurred i was not in my vehicle nor was i driving. i frequently have passenger seat riders and this problem indeed is hazardous. i spoke with a representative at landers dodge and they didn't know what too do too resolve this problem.

we drive a 2013 chrysler 200, 3.6l v6. we have 12,500 miles on the car. this month we are experiencing a stalling problem at slow speeds when getting ready to stop. i took the car on the highway to see if the problem existed at high speeds. i set the cruise control and it died two times in ten minutes. the car started back up with no problems. i checked on line to see if there were any recalls on my 200. there is an nhtsa campaign number 13v043000 (feb 06,2013) that is categorized as fuel system, gasoline. this may be the issue but the chrysler dealer did not acknowledge this as a recall for my vehicle. this recall is for a gas tank that has a broken control valve in the fuel tank assembly. i think that my problem with the car could be one that was discovered two years ago on 2011 chrysler 200 with 3.6l v6 engines. my car has shut off when idling or coming to a stop without a warning sign and no dash indicator light. i turned the key to off and restarted the engine. it started right away and i believe that it let me start it while it was still in drive. my car has stalled (4) times in the last week. the nhtsa opened an investigation into stalling problems on june 22, 2012. it covered an estimated 87,288 vehicles. chrysler announced they had identified a powertrain control module (pcm) defect in their 3.6l engines. the pcm was initiating a purge monitor check while the engine was at idle or slowing down. the purge resulted in an "overly rich vapor condition that caused the engine to stall". chrysler developed a software patch which reprograms the pcm. the patch was released as part of a "customer satisfaction program" in september 2012. the nhtsa closed the investigation and did not force chrysler to issue a recall because chrysler classified the problem as "low risk".

on the drivers side headlight at night after 75 feet their is a black shadow. leaving you blind when driving thru streets and hillside at night. traveling at 75 mph on highway leaves no time to stop. have taken into dealer and told that chrysler says this is normal will not fix even though they feel it is a hazard. talked with other owner they also say it is a problem for them and have quit driving at night. have a printout from chrysler stating the above.

bought my 2013 chrysler 200 brand new from rameys auto.it had 50 miles on the odometer when we purchased it on may 27,2013,we have had issues w/ the car acting up going up hills & in level areas on the 4 lanes even sometimes when you stop at a red light it acts like it wants to stall and quit.i took it to the auto dealership after i called & complained they rode the car claimed nothing wrong w/ it, at times it would be worse than others, ended up taking this car for two appts. & a mile down the road it happened again majorly so my husband turned around went back to the dealership& ask for a mechanic to ride with us,he rode w/ my husband it acted up& the mechanic said we put it on computer,nothing showed up he said, well what happens if it quits on me& my children(ages 4 and 8 at the time)and someone hits& kills us he said leave your air condition down low its probably affecting the power on the engine& i said its the middle of summer its hot& theres no way i can ride around w/ the windows down w/ no air conditioner w/ two small children and he said there was nothing he could do because it wasnt showing up on computer, he told us that we needed to keep a notebook of everytime it acted up& have whoever was w/us to sign& date it so we have i found a recall on this car& ask the dealership about it said it had nothing to do w/ my car that my car was made after the recall came along he said the car was made in jan.2013 so it didnt affect it.im still having issues w/ this as we speak,seems as if you turn the air conditioner on it gets worse,but acts up going up smalls hills on the 4 lane(jerking,and scares me its going to stall out.we have been concerned& still are concerned about this issue w/ the way the car acts.we have considered trading it in recently for something else due to the fact we cant get the problem resolved nor can anyone tell us whats going on w/ the car.
