AIR BAGS

chevrolet uplander places the back seat passenger air bags in the seat. because it is in the seat, there is no armrest provided for the passenger. all passengers that i have had in the back seat have "made" an armrest to be more comfortable, but thereby blocking the function of the airbag. this safety feature of the car will not function properly in a collision, due to passenger desire to be comfortable. this is a very poor design and should be corrected prior to any injuries. *nm

i have a 2006 uplander - owned it 4 months - and 4 services. same thing - "low oil pressure" and "service required" on the display. the rattle in the back, and the horn that works when it chooses to. i have had the van - "reprogrammed" twice and am again waiting for parts. called gm and they said it is only their responsibility to fix it - not let you choose something else - guess i am stuck with it. repair shop knows my name now. *jb

the day we purchases our chevy uplander there was a problem with the air conditioning. the dealership replaced the o ring on the compressor and recharged the freon. after 2 and a half weeks of owning the vehicle and 750 miles on the vehicle i went on a trip to houston, tx with my 2 year old. the air began to blow steam and stopped working. i called my dealership and they advised me to call on star. they advised me where the closest dealership was i stopped there and they said they thought it was the actuator and they reset the computer and the air was working again. two more times the air stop working on my trip. i stopped the car at my grandfather's house and a gas station and it reset it's self and the air began to work. i brought it to tomball parkway chevy. and after 2 days of driving short distances they could not duplicate the problem. they contacted the manufacturer and they said they were aware there is a problem. they have received other complaints around the us but were not sure how to fix the problem yet. i travel frequently with my child i can not ride in 105 degree heat with her. how do i solve the problem when i am not comfortable having only had the car 3 weeks now? *jb

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

i purchased a 2006 chevy uplander 3 weeks ago from todays date. we just took it to myrtle beach when my husband noticed all lights were flickering at highway speeds. the flickering lights could be a result of a faulty computer voltage regulation, in that the alternator no longer regulates voltage, this is a very big issue because is not only distract the driver but to oncoming traffic as well. i have the van in the shop as we speak, here are some of the other issues we have... water leaks on both driver and passenger side, due to welds not being sealed at factory. i also have an issue with the radio going out completely when first turning on. *nm

after i purchased the vehicle (nesmith chevrolet - hinesville), the first time driving it at night i noticed that the headlights and interior lights fluctuated when pressure was placed on the engine. when i took it back to the dealer, they said they could not duplicate. problem still persists. it is very dangerous at night because some other drivers believe i am flashing at them, and in turn flash their high beams at me, by this time close to me causing me to have to take my eyes off the road. other times giving large trucks the idea that i am giving them the ok to get back over in front of me, when in fact it isn't. none the less, it is very annoying to be driving down the road at night with the headlights and dash lights fluctuating while applying pressure on the engine. still to this date nothing has been done.

i have a 2006 chevy uplander lt and i started to have problems around 3,000 miles of ownership. it started with electrical issues (hard drive entertainment system, gas gauge, dimming lights, radio losing settings, hard starts, service abs, and service traction control) and gradually moved to mechanical issues (clucking noises ? front end, vibrations ? front end, steering binding, and grinding noises from the front end). what has been replaced in hopes of fixing the issues are the hard drive to the entertainment system, main computer module (twice and reprogrammed several times), steering column, steering box, rack and pinion, front stabilizing control arms, front brake, front rotors resurfaced, abs control module (never fixed the service abs and service traction control). the dealer still can?t explain the grinding noise and is trying to convince me that it is normal characteristics of the van (they actually wrote that in the service report). they can not resolve the service abs and traction control errors. they can?t resolve the hard starts. the dealer has taken a position that no more diagnostic work will be performed to the front end until i replace a cupped tire (their opinion). i have hired a lemon law attorney to help with my problem.

me and my wife bought a 2006 chevy uplander from karmart when we test drove it we noticed a noise in the front end. we asked the salesman what it could be he said our cars are inspected 100 percent and it is not anything to worry about. the car had very low miles on it about 3,600 miles. we drove the car until it had about 33,000 the warranty expires at 36,000 we noticed another loud knock in the front end and it would start shaking really bad when you put on the brakes and i mean scary bad.the lights we also doing a flashing from a really low dim to back to normal that was also something we noticed from time we bought it. we called up speedway chevrolet in monroe and made an appointment. they took the car in and said it needed a new tie rod and a frontend the alignment was way out.they also replaced the voltage regulator. we went back to pick the car up and they said the front brakes were needing to be replaced and they were wearing uneven i asked him if this could be from the front end problem he said no. i also noticed the tires were wearing uneven and it looked like they were wearing on the outside more. we noticed the same noise was still there as from karmart.so we took it to les schwab and had the brakes replaced hoping it would fix the problem. it didn't fix the noise so we drove the car another 1,000 miles and started hearing another loud knock. the noise from the dealership was different from the loud knocks that started up. we made another appt. with speedway cheverlet and this time they said there was a recall on the steering box and the bearings on the axles were bad. they replaced the steering box and said it would be a while before they could replace the bearings. the bearing makers were on strike so we waited from july 26 til aug 13 or 14th to pick it up. we went the whole time with one car and really had a hard time doing so. i feel there was some major safety issues overlooked and they were hoping the warranty would run out.

this is in regards to claim #10242028 the mileage was closer to 9500 and we were referred to you through the attorney generals office in belling ham wa. i did receive a copy of there inspection report and they told a lie on hearing the noise it was not a quiet noise when you turned the vehicle left or right it would be very loud. we were told by the chevy dealer that it would be very unsafe to drive the car with the very same noise we left with off the lot. the issue is that i drove an unsafe car off there lot and it became more unsafe the more we drove it. the reason all of the other things went wrong on the car was a result of them not fixing what was wrong with it in the first place. they said the tires were wearing out because it was not properly maintained i don't believe this at all. i am very angry at them and i can't believe they can just get away with this. when i drove the van to seattle the other day the service t/c and service abs system lights were on all the way there i am afraid to drive the van and my wife is to. i truly hope there is something that can be done about this we paid $26,000 and we thought we were getting a fairly new reliable van that is what we paid for thank you for your help !!!!

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES

i have a 2006 chevy uplander, almost from the beginning i have had problems with the automatic doors. i took it back to the dealership i purchased it a couple of times and they would "do all they could" by cleaning the track and lubricating - then cleaning the sensors. this was always a temporary fix. the doors would close the majority of the way then open back and begin beeping. i tried turning the automatic doors off - still happened. then i started noticing on my passenger side that when the door closed the motor would run and you could hear the cable grinding. and about two weeks ago, don't know it the cable got off track, but when i opened the door it would open all the way and the cable would just hang out. well, today my 2006 uplander caught on fire while i was at my grandmother's house, the fire department came and after their investigation led to believe the fire started in the passenger side in the area where the motor to my door was. actually it was very clear that is where it happened, that was the area of the car most damaged.

purchased a 2006 chevrolet uplander lt in august 2006. currently have 45,000 miles and is out of warranty. since it was purchased, we have had two recurring problems. 1)interior and exterior lights "flicker" at night to the degree that it is a driving distraction and appear to represent the driver flashing their lights. this was taken to the dealer multiple times, and only once under warranty was a part replaced which did not resolve the problem. now dealer continues to state that they cannot replicate the problem. 2)automatic sliding doors will not open or stay closed. this is a safety hazard as they also will no longer close completely. we have taken to the dealer numerous times and it is apparent that they no longer know what to do. we have replaced several parts trying to resolve the problem. their last resolution was to turn off the automatic door feature. the problems are identical on both doors. several times we have been away from home and doors would not close and we could not manually close them. we asked dealer to contact gm for assistance with this issue and they advised that there is nothing they can do.

1st the check engine light keeps coming on and when put on diagnostic code came back po463. the van wouldn't pass emissions and when you fill up with gas it would say it was empty. there's a loud popping noise sounds like at axle. it does this after you stop at red lights. i was told this had to do with axle and could brake and cause fatal accident, the abs light keeps coming on and the braking system scared me to death. the doors constantly chime or ding and the doors will open going down the road. i was so upset because i have to transport my elderly aunt and two children and before i was about to pay to have all this fixed i decided to check out recall. i am so shocked that you can look this up online and they are 1000 documented complaints on all the same problems but yet no recalls. is it going to take people getting killed to do this. i am praying for something less tragic and trying to save these precious lives. there is research and lawsuits that the chevrolet uplanders have a lot of these problems from 2005 to 2008 especially with the doors and like me everyone gets annoyed and unplugs them and have to use them manually but why should we when are still paying for automatic doors. this van is truly unsafe and a lemon. i pray to god everyday to keep me safe while driving and have told my husband if i die while driving this vehicle he should sue!!! updated 01/17/12 *bf the consumer stated gm called and asked her to bring the van in for a diagnostic test. they stated she would have to pay for the test. the fuel sensor was replaced in 2006. however, the consumer stated it had to be replaced again. they also aligned the doors in 2008 which was proof of an ongoing problem. updated 01/18/12

i bought my 2006 uplander used. a week or two after buying it, the passenger back sliding door began giving me problems. it will seem to be closing all the way and then pop back open. i have never taken off when this happens, but i am very observant about it and with a small child i refuse to endanger him in any way. i thought that maybe this was just a fluke and didn't take it to be seen about. i still have not, because my warranty is out and i don't have the money to pay for an expensive fix. i was researching new vehicles, when i started thinking about not just the one or two times, but the 10's and possible 100's of times this has happened and wonder, "will i be stuck with a vehicle that could jeopardize my child, husband's and my safety." i think that it is not a good testament to safety when there are so many people with this problem and nothing has been done to recall and fix it. i beg of you. please get these vehicles fixed or take them off the road.

our 2006 chevy uplander first starting having problems at about 20,000 miles when our tires (continental brand that came installed on brand new vehicle from dealer) needed to be replaced due to severe cupping on all 4 tires. we were told it was an alignment issue, so we had the tires replaced and had a 4 wheel alignment. tires needed to be replaced again at 45,000 miles due to same cupping issue. again, another 4 wheel alignment was performed. fuel sensor was reading empty on a full tank of gas and the float was replaced at 16,000 miles. now at 50,000 miles, sensor reads consistently empty again on a full tank of gas. severe rattling/vibration from under the vehicle at highway speeds that resonates from between the front driver and passenger seats. (possibly e-brake cable or heat shield?) both front and rear shocks and struts needed to be replaced at 54,000 miles. there is a severe issue concerning the steering. when turning either left or right steering has some slop. the rack and pinion need to be replaced. the electronic stability control sensor, abs sensor, and traction control sensor all illuminate at random times while normal driving is occurring.

i bought my 2006 chevy uplander used with 74,000 in fall of 2011. while at an busy intersection stop sign, the traction control and stability service lights came on, then all dashboards lights came on and the van stalled. all lights (both interior and exterior) shut off and i couldn't restart vehicle. road conditions were dry and clear. after rolling onto the side of the road and letting it sit for around 5 minutes, it started and did not have any more problems. the following week, it happened again while driving on the highway. road conditions were slick and snowy and the traction control and stability lights came on, then there is a "clicking" sound in steering column. the van stalled, started, stalled, and started again on while i am driving down the road. i was able to turn onto a country road and shut it off (basically it died). i waited and restarted to try to get to town. it began happening again and this time i lost control and ended up in a field (luckily no injuries). after getting it out i took it to the dealership (no issues on way there) they hooked it up and there weren't any codes coming through. tech drove it over 4 days and it never happened to him. then today as i was driving into town, it happened again. the traction/stability light comes on, you hear a "clicking" sound in the steering column, and it begins to die/start again while continuing to drive. eventually it just dies. i will let it sit for a time and then restart it. depending on how long it sits (over an hour is better) it will either continue with issues or drive normally for upto a week before issue begins to reoccur.

this unit when steering input to the left makes a humming noise synonymous to the steering knuckle recall bulletin. when i took it to the dealer for diagnosis they asked for serial number that i provided and they stated my unit is not up for the recall and now what is my recourse?? i have spouse and 3 toddlers and commute daily at 110 km per hour for over 300 km. i am quite worried and afraid if something should fail mechanically as the noise is from the drivers side and puts us in the direct line of oncoming traffic for a potential head on collision and the dealer reps were not at all sympathetic or concerned and just brushed me off without offering an option at the very least. any help is much appreciated. thank you.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

vehicle has occasional flickering headlights. there are other occasional electrical system problems that last for one day only, but all day, and the next day are gone, until they repeat, but only for one day, every time. these are: the radio will not work; the alarm audible signal and dash indicator light for the parking brake being on will sound when driving, even though parking brake is not on; and the rear heater fan will come on and stay on at high speed even though it is switched off at the dash. have taken the van to two dealers and they could not duplicate. took vehicle to dealer service manager while the rear fan was blowing on its own. he observed the problem, but i had to make an appointment for the next week, and then, of course, the fan was not blowing. i now open the fuse box under the hood and pull the rear heater blower fan fuse when this happens; and replace the fuse in the morning of the following day when (i know by now) the problem is corrected... until the next time it happens again. the odd thing is that these three problems will only last for one day. but they will last the whole day. the parking brake alarm will sound sporadically at the start of the day, but will be a constant ringing while being driven as the day goes on. but the next day the problem is gone, until it happens again, weeks or months later. *jb

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

i bought this van around 2010,the mileage was around 60,000. the first thing i noticed was the light. i was pulled out by the police about my light. i went straight to auto zone and changed it. i have changed my bulbs more than twenty times. i got warnings. secondly, my remote control have been acting out. i changed the battery several times. it will work for only few hours and stop. i started locking my doors manually, only the passenger door is left to control the button. the worst experience that led me to file this report is the fuel tank and the steering wheel. my van had stopped more than twenty times without warning, each time i bought gas and it will start working. the last experience is still frightening to me. i was driving on a highway at 55m/hr my gauge was showing just below half tank, all of a sudden my van accelerated and sound went off,i immediately made a left turn on a green light to a street that went down the hill. i could not control my van no more,i turned off the key and it went to a stopped with a bang noise. fire fighters were around that area, they immediately rushed to help and suggested i buy gas which i did and my van started working again.i approached somebody using the same type of van,she said she experienced same issues several times. my daughter had an accident with this van once,i begin to wonder what might have caused it although she said another driver caused it and fled, now even if my gas is showing full tank i will make sure i still buy more.i am scared to give my van to my children to drive.i escaped accident more than four times because of the same issue.i don't drink, never smoke, i use my van mainly to work.recently the rod that holds the tire don't know the name just broke into two without any reason.i was just trying to reverse and i noticed my van will not move. came down and i saw that. i just replaced my tail light few days ago.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

i kept getting false codes when using test meter to diagnose and repair vehicle after replacing fuel pump evap canister gas cap plugs wires brakes rotors the ecm had it reprogrammed to car i was still having the same problems after careful inspection i found under the drivers side passenger seat a series of lines that just simply plug through the vehicle exposed to all elements when driving i carefully unplugged the wires and noticed that they were all corroded and not functional while noticing this i had noticed its proximity to the fuel tank and fuel rails just days prior to my repairs i had smelled some burning smell it is to my opinion that this is not only a safety issue because its closeness to fuel rails and tanks but it is poor design in the manufacturing of the vehicle i now have a vehicle that sits in my driveway that i am afraid to put my family in because of the opportunity to explode at any given time or catch electrical fire at the very least i have pics of the wires removed as well as the location of the wires please help sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

SERVICE BRAKES

the placement of the rear brake lines on this van are right under the frame, so when im driving and the van is going up and down due to bumps in the road the frame cuts into the brake line and eventually brakes the line causing them to leak and me having horrible brakes. i've had to replace the brake lines two times already and the brake lines on there now are already starting to leak again. this is caused by a poor placement of the brake line and there's no way of fixing it.

WHEELS

i purchased this vehicle from a private owner on 2/14/14. the dashboard lights do not work which is a problem at night, which means i can only drive it during the day and without it lighting up there are no codes available. i do not know how fast i am going on the highway, or if i am low on fuel, or in any other kind of danger. one evening i was on my way home from a family members house at night and it was raining and i was so afraid. i had no lights on the dashboard, so i had no idea how fast i was going. also, a new battery was put in the van on 2/14/14, and on 2/17/14 the entire vehicle died on me in the hospital parking garage. i had to have it towed to a repair shop. they said that the battery was not supporting the electrical system in the car, even though it was the battery that was recommended by the vehicle manual. i travel a lot with my church and am so afraid that this vehicle is going to leave me stranded on the highway or worst. the wheels at times seem as though they are about to come off. i put two brand new tires on it when i purchased it. the tire company said the other two were okay, so why does it shake and feel as though they are coming off? the sliding door on the driver side does not open, and the radio lighting works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. i was told not to use the radio because it causes the battery to run down... there are just too many problems with this fairly new vehicle. i am concerned about having an accident when the car suddenly shuts off, or the dashboard suddenly stops working in a rain storm or at night when i cannot see, or worst, being involved in an accident and trapped because the only way out is the passenger door on the driver's side that doesn't work... or the wheels coming off while driving at 70 mph. a recall of this vehicle is definitely needed!

my car will only start on the first start of the day other than that you have to keep trying to start it. i usually have to lightly tap on the gas pedal to get it to start. at least 2-3 times a day it will keep turning over and die. i'm afraid that it will cause a fire or something because of that . i've taken it to a dealer at the 14-69 auto mall in fort wayne indiana and he told me that an excessive start in gm vehicles is very normal. i know quite a few people that have this same van as i do and every single one of them has the same exact problem . bit it seems that no one knows what is causing it. i am afraid it may be an ignition or something similar to it . that k you for your time .
