POWER TRAIN

vehicle while coasting in gear will accelerate on it`s own. engine rpm increases approx 300 rpm.. happens 10- 15 times daily. i drive 120 miles one way to work. car now has 7000 miles. purchased in dec 2012. kinda scary when it happens in traffic may cause an accident if not paying attention.. defect is documented by another owner at chevysparkforum.com under general powertrain discussions/ idle problems.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

the steering wheel controls (cruise control, audio etc) do not illuminate. after some research, i have found that gm has remedied this issue with models manufactured after november 2012. this is a safety hazard at night because if i use my cruise control, i have to turn on my dome light to see what button to push. i complained to gm and was told that gm is simply not going to do anything about models manufactured prior to nov 2012.

the steering wheel controls (cruise control, audio etc) do not illuminate. after some research, i have found that gm has remedied this issue with models manufactured after november 2012. this is a safety hazard at night because if i use my cruise control, i have to turn on my dome light to see what button to push. i complained to gm and was told that gm is simply not going to do anything about models manufactured prior to nov 2012.

i experienced two instances of sudden unintended acceleration in mid april 2013. in the first instance, approx. 04/10/2013, my spark struck a steel pole used to suspend a bird feeder next to my driveway, when shifting to reverse, and knocked it down, causing minor damage to the rear bumper. in the second instance, on 04/16/2013, my spark suddenly accelerated and struck and severely damaged the chain link fence bordering my driveway, when shifting to drive, and struck and damaged my garage door when shifting to reverse. this caused approximately $3000.00 damage to my car. now i'm afraid to drive this car!

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

while driving on the highway with the cruise control set at 70 mph, the vehicle kept accelerating and slowing down. by watching the tachometer, i could see the rpms go up and down continuously, and feel the vehicle surging forward and slowing again. the vehicle also did this with the cruise control set at 60 mph. while driving on the street and coasting, you can feel the transmission shifting up and down, and the vehicle will suddenly accelerate on it's own, making this a very dangerous situation since if you are not alert, you may be driven into the back of the vehicle in front of you.

AIR BAGS

air bag light lit, code 95 (airbag malfunction) light lit and service engine soon light lit on vehicle. have taken vehicle back to dealership 5 times in the past 40 days and problem is still apparent. chevrolet engineering has been involved for past 10 days and they are also unable to repair problem. chevrolet cannot say if airbag system will work in the event of a crash.

in june of 2013, my a/c stopped working on my 2013 chevrolet spark. the car was taken in for warranty service three times. the expansion valve and compressor were replaced and the a/c was partly restored. the a/c will not work while the car is at idle. when driving the car, the a/c will begin to cool the interior and seems to be fine. when stopped at a red light, stop sign, or in my drive way, the a/c will stop cooling and blows warm air out of the vents. a fourth warranty service call was opened for this problem in early july. the dealership has troubleshoot the a/c issue and do not know how to fix the problem. the dealership has given me a case number from general motors llc and told me that the engineers at gm are working on a repair for this issue (pic5858a: insufficient a/c performance at idle - jun 13, 2013). it is now august of 2013 and no resolution has been found. the dealership has no new information and gm customer service is no help either. my car was manufactured on 08/2012. it is the ls model with a 5-speed transmission.

TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM

when pulling out from side street, parking lot, drive way, ect. at normal speed. if there is any kind of bump, or rough road the car will loose power for about 5 seconds and the traction control light will come on. i have almost got run over 4 times now. had in service dept. at dealer 2 time and they say could not duplicate. this is going to get someone killed. dealer and gm are no help and just say it is a lite car so that's the way it is. car is a 2013 chevy spark 2lt / 4 speed auto transmission.

we have a 2013 spark. the a/c does not work while the car is at idle or at lower speeds. when driving the car the a/c will begin to cool once you hit about 40 mph. then when stopped at a red light, stop sign, or drive at speeds lower than the 40 mph, the a/c will stop cooling and blows warm air out of the vents. the dealership has troubleshot once when we had our first oil change in june. they sold us a new cabin filter they said may be blocked by dirt and suggested that there was also a service due at 15,000 miles that might alleviate the problem. we purchased the service suggested, but it did not help. we stopped into the service dept again and they do not know how to fix the problem. they told us that the engineers at gm are still working on a repair for this issue. it is now september and no resolution has been found. the dealership has no new information.

POWER TRAIN

car was shifting from 3rd to 4th gear on a manual model. with no warning the gear shift in car no longer would engage the gears leaving the car with no gear control. steered the car to the side of the road. diagnosis the plastic insert end broke on the shift cable. no warning to driver of a problem. have pictures of removed part.

POWER TRAIN

around 18,000 miles the manual transmission started randomly grinding while going into second gear and the clutch was fully depressed. this issue would occur the first few shifts after the vehicle had sat for awhile. this condition worsened as time progressed and it had to go in for warranty service around 19,000 miles. needless to say it took 26 days to get the necessary parts, as a number of gears/parts had to be replaced.

as i am driving the car, the engine will rev as though the car is in neutral and the car no longer moves forward (no power to the drive wheels.) the transmission appears to be slipping. this problem is intermittent and has occurred during all weather and vehicle temperature conditions. it has also occurred as i move forward from a dead stop and as i am entering the freeway on the onramp. i have taken the vehicle back to the dealership from which i purchase the vehicle on five occasions yet each time the vehicle is returned, the same problems occurs within a week.

the headlight remains on daytime running light, the driver gets the impression that the lights are on . but the rear lights remain off. one has to manually turn on the rear lights.. it is a safety hazard on a mini small spark car. as a safety on a small mini car . the rear lights must also be turned on as a daytime running light feature.

on multiple occasions i have driven my car and parked it. when i have returned to the car it will not start. on star diagnostics tells me there is a problem with the transmission, engine and anti brake system and that i am to get it to the dealer/repair immediately. i have had to wait several hours before i can get it started again. i have been in situations where i am in an areas without phone or cell reception to call for help. it has been to the dealer repair shop 4 times and they are unable to correct the problem. they say until they can replicate the problem - they cannot fix it. finally with this last (4th) visit they were able to replicate the problem twice. but i was informed they have no idea where the problem is coming from and they have no solution at this time. they will return the car to me after 9 days as is with no fix. i am afraid to drive across colorado for fear i will be stranded.

vehicle will surge forward while in gear. vehicle also will surge in neutral causing rpms to rise. this occurs after initially starting the vehicle and driving for approximately ten minutes. does not matter if the vehicle has not been started for a long or short period of time. when the vehicle surges it seems to be at 1/4 throttle.

my husband was pulling the chevy spark into a parking place when four people decided to cross over it. when the brake was applied to allow them to safely pass, the car accelerated instead. the brakes pressed back against his foot he said and car eventually stopped. we were both confused, surprised and afraid! the car was not driven again until i took it out two days later. it happened once more when i was braking at a red light behind a large truck at a very low speed. i pressed the brake harder a second time and then took my foot off the brake. this time the acceleration continued even after my foot was taken off the brake. i shoved the car into park to get it to stop. i sustained a broken toe and fractured ankle from the force of trying to stop the car. a few months before this, when applying the gas, the car would not accelerate at two consecutive red lights. engine was very slow and car was not able to accelerate to the speed limit and hesitated all the way home. the car has a factory recall on the air conditioner right now as well, which we received from gm. we are terrified to drive this car not knowing if these defects will continue! the car is in the service department and we are in contact with the dealership about a buy back from gm. we bought the spark august 30, 2013, so it is not even a year old. i have done a search for others who may be having the same or similar issues. there are reports of very similar incidents on sites for complaints for both issues of brake acceleration and the gas pedal hesitation also reports of the spark engine stopping in traffic. this is very concerning and dangerous. we hope this is taken seriously and investigated.

the air conditioning system cycles off for about 30-40 seconds during normal operation for no apparent reason. gm had a recall on it where they replaced some parts. even after the recall, the problem persisted and i was told by the dearlership (auto nation, greenacres, fl) that gm designers told them that the a/c was designed to work that way and there was nothing they could "fix." so i'm forced to live with a poorly performing a/c system in a brand new 2013 vehicle. really???

engine lost power on the highway when i was going 65 miles per hr , luckily i was on the right lane and was able to pull safety on the shoulder and did not have any accident . but i am afraid to drive my car and this car is only 2 years old. find out from other owners complains that engine lose power is cause because of excessive oil usage by the engine. i had this problem since february 2014 but i was told by dealer that there is no visible oil leakage., i do not believe engine was checked for that problem.

my daughter & niece stopped at a convenience store, locked the car, came back out and car wouldn't start. called onstar and vehicle had to be towed to a dealership. a module failed that locked out the engine as it would if vehicle was stolen. dealer got the module quickly, but couldn't get the keys to reprogram. this happened 60 miles away, i have gotten a loaner from the dealership, but my daughter couldn't as she's 20 years old. i purchased the vehicle so i had safe, dependable transportation for my daughter. what if this had happened hundreds of miles away! dealer said they had no record of this happening on any type gm vehicle in the past. it's six days and counting, still no car.

i was in the car with my son pulling into my yard which is at an incline and the car accelerated on its own. when i stepped on the brakes they failed and the car crashed into my brick house. the car has been totaled out and the house has structural damage. all the airbags deployed, however, my son had no injuries and i walked away with significant bruising and lacerations on my legs. i have contacted gm and they are currently investigating my claim.
