on 2/23/11 i purchased a 2011 chevrolet silverado 1500 and drove 40 miles home when i activated onstar 2/24/11 i was informed the vehicle had a dangerous rear axle condition and not to drive the vehicle.why is national highway allowing general motors to sell a vehicle having this defect to a customer without repairing the vehicle before the sale or delivery. if anyone is hurt the liability will go to general motors but also to national highway for allowing this to happen. i will make a effort to notify the media to inform them of this dangerous practice gm recall #10426 please stop this now before anyone is hurt.

rear axle has a gvwr of 3950 lbs the vehicle a 2plus 1 rear spring pack, 3 different spring suppliers rate this spring pack at 1425l or 1500 lbs each for a combined rate of either 2850 or 3000 lbs per pair. which makes the factory rating of 3950lbs either 1100 or 950 lbs higher depending on the spring supplier. using the industry guideline the weakest component controls the gvwr is being violated by chevrolet i have a truck marketing institute certificate in this area and a cd from michelin verifying the weakest component controls gvwr .i asked chevrolet for replacement springs from another model that has a combined rating of 4050lbs 100 lbs above there 3950 lb axle rating. this issue has caused trailering problems but chevrolet refused this is a safety issue the springs i requested would correct the problem can you help? i can supply further information if needed thank you *kb

my 2011 chevrolet silverado 1500 has unwanted acceleration. its been happening for apprx a month, on and off. on tuesday 10/4/2011 i was leaving my parking space at work, i had my foot on the brake as i was turning out of the space, the vehicle just took off - accelerating without touching the gas. i then hit the brake which stopped the vehicle. i then got on the highway - (i-94) to head home, while driving on i-94 my vehicle lunged forward nearly striking the vehicle in front of me. i then backed off and kept a safe distance in the event that it happened again, sure enough - my vehicle started accelerating on its own. i realized it was doing it and had enough distance between me and the other vehicles ahead, so i allowed the vehicle to take off. my silverado got up to about 1500 rpms at 60mph, i clearly had my foot off the brake and the gas, feet flat on the floor. i allowed it to accelerate on its own for apprx 1 minute but then had to stop. it is clearly driving itself. i drove the truck straight to the dealership and left it for the shop to look at the next day. the service dept could not re-create the problem, go figure. in the past month i've nearly hit several parked cars when pulling into parking spaces as the vehicle takes off accelerating, in these events i was also able to stop the vehicle w the brake.

this is a dealer demo vehicle, first 2235 miles were demo. during my first morning (12hours after picking up at dealer) of ownership i was descending down a hill with the cruise on, and the vehicle proceeded to over speed approximately 5-7mph. i travel this hill both ways to/from work daily and this happens everytime. i though this might be an abnormal adjustment within the computer/etc so while taking in to the dealer for a tpms (tire pressure monitor system) issue i mentioned the overspeed issue to the service write up and they said that it was normal. i don't agree, but maybe it is. it does adjust back to normal cruise set speed but is unique. i had a 2002 dodge ram 1500 previously and it did not do this, and i have drove otr (over the road) semi-trucks and know the difference with overspeed being normal and abnormal. i would like this to be looked into, as it could be a hazard that could lead to unsafe situation.

conditions: heavy misting rain, 32 deg f, lowering temperature, daytime. this is to report a design defect of the windshield defogging system. the defogging system operated as designed. there was no failure of the equipment. when the windshield defogger is selected this vehicles system automatically sets to outside air and turns off the airconditioning compressor at 32 deg f and below. on december 6th while driving during misting rain at slightly above freezing with the temperature slowly lowering i experienced a rapid and serious problem clearing the windshield of mist on the inside surface of the windshield as well as all other glass surfaces when the temperature fell below freezing and the airconditioning compressor cut off. despite using the windshield defogger at the maximum heat and fan setting i was forced to pull over to the side of the road because i could no longer see well enough to drive safely. selection of windshield defogging mode actually worsened the problem initially. i believe that the design of the system creates the potential (and in this case actual) danger of rapid loss of visibility to the outside of the vehicle with the possibility of a loss of effective control.

this vehicle has several defects that gm claims as normal. 1. truck randomly lurches forward when started in park. gm says this is normal make sure you apply parking brake when parking. 2. drive train clunks when decelerating into 10-20mph range and accelerating again. gm says this is normal due to tolerances and accelerated in four wheel drive vehicles. 3. vehicle drain train randomly makes a bang or clunk noise when accelerating from a stop. gm claims this is also normal. i have purchased this truck new in november 2011 and it has been in the shop five times. each time dealer checks repair for defect and gm sends back bulletin saying no repair condition normal. dealer says a handful of trucks have come back with this similar problem. i can not believe gm accepts this defect as normal. *js

just seconds after having come to a complete stop, the transmission shifts while rpms increase causing the vehicle to overcome the brake pressure and truck to move forward abruptly. this caused me to roll out into the lane of oncoming traffic and strike a vehicle as it was passing.

i purchased vehicle use, with 384 miles. vehicle transmission became very loud, whining, growling, making clunking noise when shifting; downshifting at times produced runaway shifting, clunking and slipping. took it to one chev. dealer and service writer said he had a chev p.u. just like mine and it didn't make those noises. went back again and dealer found a service bulletin that applied to my transmission. they ordered parts, installed them, but no change. went back again and the service shop and they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission and there was nothing more they could do for my p.u. i went to another dealer and they said it needed front and rear planetary gears. parts were ordered and installed, again no change. went back to the dealer and they drove my p.u. the service manager said there was nothing wrong with my p.u. ! i spoke with a district specialist at g.m. and she said she would contact the dealership! it is now june 5, 2012 and i again called gm customer assistance and they said the woman who had my case no longer works in that department and they would assign another specialist. she/he would call me today, maybe tomorrow. i told them enough is enough and i wanted another vehicle!

speed control (cruise) does not hold. while going down an incline from the mountains, cruise control was set for 65 mph, and the vehicle increased speed to 85+ mpg before applying brake to slow down. called dealership and took vehicle to be checked in regards to this incident, and they stated that due to the department of transportation, new emission standards that transmission was made not to hold so as not to increase carbon footprint. this causes a very unsafe condition when driving when the cruise control is engaged.

when stopped at a stop light or stop sign on a road that has an incline, when removing my foot from the brake to the gas pedal, the truck rolls backwards and will not stop at all unless the brake is re-applied or the gas pedal can be pushed before the vehicle rolls too far back. talked to dealer and had vehicle in to be checked and they stated that the transmission was designed that way to eliminate stress on the transmission and it was meant to free roll for a short distance. this is an unsafe condition as vehicle could roll backwards into another vehicle, person, or object. on a very steep incline, the vehicle kept on rolling backward for several feet and unless i put my foot on the brake or gas it will continuing to roll backwards.

there was no accident to my vehicle i purchased a new vehicle from a company and i have been having problems out of the vehicle since i made the purchase. the dealership replaced the tires, then replaced one of the rims but the problem still exist they also did a front end alignment, the service manager stated that he had no idea what to next to solve the problem, there is a shaking or vibration in the vehicle when it is driven. i have had several conversations with gm and still the matter hasn't been resolved.

the truck i purchased has a max towing package that is supposed to safely tow 10,600# in crew cab configuration. i have a 28' pace daytona trailer that weighs under 8,000# as i tow it. at approximately 50 mph, the truck has a very severe sway issue. it is frightening to drive as the trailer starts shifting the rear of the truck back and forth. i have not had an accident with the truck as yet, but i feel the situation is very dangerous. i have contacted chevrolet customer service in michigan to ask for assistance with this issue. they say they have no information that can help solve my problem. i was instructed to bring the truck and trailer to lone star chevrolet in houston where i purchased the truck. several visits there and talking to several service people has yielded no help. i was told that the truck can't pull a trailer of that physical size. oddly enough, the 2012 model truck advertises a new sway control feature. this 2013 brochure ever depicts a scene of the trailer swaying as mine does, with a box type trailer in the add. since chevrolet claims it has no history of this being an issue, i felt that i should notify someone of this unsafe situation with this particular vehicle. thanks for allowing me to share my problem with someone who might research this issue and try to prevent a serious accident.

tl* the contact owns a 2011 chevrolet silverado 1500. the contact stated while driving various speeds, fuel leaked continuously onto the ground. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road and then towed to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the technician informed that there was a crack in the feeder fuel line. the vehicle was repaired. the failure occurred after fuel was dispensed into the fuel tank to the full capacity. the manufacturer was notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000. the vin was unavailable.

ENGINE

the automatic belt tensioner pulley is in the process of going out. the pulley itself is slowly suffering from a high pitched whining noise which is caused by bearing failure. with the current mileage the part in question shouldn't by any means be failing, the tensioner works fine but the pulley wobbles a bit too much. if the pulley continues to wobble more and finally results in catastrophic failure it can shred the serpentine belt which will render the vehicle useless or even become a danger to any and all occupants in the vehicle especially if it fails on the highway. if the belt goes out it can bend other pulleys or shear off pulleys, bolts, or even bend the harmonic balancer (engine vibration dampener) which would result in a blown or seized up engine. i'll also add that the belt could cause a fire if it gets wedge between other spinning pulleys at the time of the pulley's bearings overheating and the pulley either breaking off or causing the belt to shred.

AIR BAGS

i had closed one of my doors on the driver side with pretty strong force (slam), and the side curtain airbags deployed on both the driver and passenger sides. the seatbelt pre-tensioners also locked up. the airbag nearly missed striking my passenger who was seated in the passenger seat when it occurred.

i was driving and was pulling into a parking spot and the vehicle accelerated instead of slowing down and coming to a stop causing it to collide with the brick building i do not what the truck speeded up to but both of the airbags went off and i missed a little 5 year old girl by about 2 inches.
