SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

brakes on my 2003 chevrolet silverado truck are spongy and do not adequately stop the vehicle resulting in several near miss collisions. the problem has become progressively worse. my vehicle has 111,000 miles and i have replaced the rear brake pads due to accelerated wear without a similar situation on the front brake pads. this shows me that the primary (larger) front brakes pads and rotors are not working correctly.

TIRES

tire tread is falling apart. hunks and pieces are missing from tread all 4 tire. these are general ameritrac tire from the dealership on my 2010 chevy silverado. dealer will comp them but our fleet is full of these tires doing this. tires look almost like retreads. size is p245/70r17. 13,600 miles on them. i have pointed this out on many vehicles wherever i see this tire especially on a silverado.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

safety issue with 2010 gmc/chevrolet 1500 pickups with 6 speed automatic transmission. the issue involves driving one of these vehicles with the tow/haul mode turned on. if going down a hill at 55 to 65 miles per hour, actually any speed, by laying your foot on the brake pedal hard just hard enough to turn on brake lights these vehicles will begin downshifting. the one i own will go from 5th gear to 2nd gear in less than 10 seconds. at this point the tachometer will peg to the max and the rear tires will begin to slide. i have had this at the dealer twice and have been told this is normal and they recommend i don't use the tow/haul mode. my vehicle hit a small bump in the road once while this was happening and actually was completely sideways at 50 mph.

when the air temp starts to drop to about 35 degrees the truck automatically turns off the air conditioner compressor and if there is any moisture on the coil it is then blown into the cab of the truck and severely fogs up the inside windows making it impossible to see out. had to pull over and keep windows down until the moisture evaporated. (shower effect on mirror).

2010 chevrolet silverado 1500 z71 lt ext. cab, driver front seat foam dealership said they replaced, but the seat is angled to the left and the seat back (what you lean back on), is leaning back on the left. seat belt crosses over left breast around your neck. the seat (what you sit on) slants down on the left. this throws your whole body off balance driving down the road and you are at an awkward position driving in my vehicle and the dealership said they have done all they can do to remedy the problem. my truck was purchased brand new and shortly after i noticed the front seat back was twisted toward the front and i took it back and that is when all the trouble began. if there were to be a collision and the air bag in the steering column deploy, it would in fact make your head go off the headrest because your head is at the edge on the left. i received a letter from the dealership that the seat meets gm specifications, but i have had three different people sit in the seat and all say it is crooked. i have called the gmc customer service department and now i have to take the truck back to the dealership again on monday for the same problem, so a representative can inspect the vehicle. i was told that this truck could be fixed, but the problem is worse and now the seat does not go back as far as it did when new and the whole driver side automatic seat looks like it has been switched out and i know it has three different times because the seat looks warn and the foam is squashed down and the padding in the back and frame wiggle around. the seat in my truck, when i purchased it, were firm and now they are loose. popping noises i keep hearing, like something is breaking loose, under the seat. the lumbar, if you can sit straight up, hits you in yourback, right side at lumbar and left side way above your hip. what does this tell you? but, i feel, since i paid cash for this vehicle, that they will not fix anything and it only has abt. 10,800 miles on it.

tire monitor light came on. read, right rear tire low add air. pulled onto side road to inspect tire. tire was up on first look and placed my hand on tire to bend down and get a better look. side of tire blew out , i ended up in ditch. was not injured. after tire removed from wheel found much damage to sidewall inside and one hole in tread. nothing found in tire that may have penetrated treat. oem jack bent and would not raise truck.

2010 silverado k1500, 4.3 l v-6, long bed, standard cab. from new the exhaust rattles/vibration at cruise 1300 to 1500 rpm. does not do this at any other rpm only the range stated. on shut down backfire pop out the exhaust tail pipe. vehicle has 3100 miles on it now. no other issues noted.

my truck has had this problem from the time it was made. they designed the defroster to work with the ac unit to produce dry air. but once the outside temp drops below 35 degrees the ac unit shuts off. with this setup it causes my windows to fog up with moist air requiring me to pull off the road until i can get the window cleared. over the last two years i have almost wrecked due to not being able to see. i have contacted the dealer and chevrolet and have not got any help.

transmission cooling lines are leaking where rubber hose is crimped onto metal hose, gm part #25999419. dealer is aware of issue, and states it is very common, but would not replace under warranty. vehicle is less than 3 years old but has 47,xxx miles on it and the warranty is only 3 years / 36,000 miles. if the line busts, it could cause the transmission to stop shifting and would be unsafe as automatic transmission fluid would leak everywhere.

as i was driving down the road my tire started going flat. after changing the tire and putting the spare on i noticed that where the tire went flat there had been separation from the outside tire and the inside of the tire rubber. i noticed that both my wrangler goodyear p265/70/r17 tires had bubbles in them where the tires are separating in the middle of the tread. the tires dot number is 4bt6 fder 0610. this is definitely a manufacturing defect and should be looked into. the tires are on a 2010 chevrolet 1500 pickup.

the leather driver seat developed a small tear from limited wear and tear. being out of warranty, i have to bear the cost of poor quality workmanship on a vehicle that is $47,000. i have done everything possible to avoid it tearing further, but entering and exiting the vehicle strains the tear area and it slowly gets worse.

this has happened twice in the last week. today i was sitting at a stoplight with my foot on the brake and suddenly without warning my 2010 silverado accelerated and lunged forward about 3 feet. fortunately there was not a car or person in front of me or i surely would have had an accident then the engine started missing. at the same time my check engine light came on. service traction control, service stabiltrak, engine power reduced flashed on my dash. i limped home at 10-15 mph max! after about an hour i started it and it ran just fine "both times". the first time this happened i was in a parking lot with the transmission in park. it is now at my local chevrolet dealer for repair.

this has happened twice in the last week. today i was sitting at a stoplight with my foot on the brake and suddenly without warning my 2010 silverado accelerated and lunged forward about 3 feet. fortunately there was not a car or person in front of me or i surely would have had an accident then the engine started missing. at the same time my check engine light came on. service traction control, service stabiltrak, engine power reduced flashed on my dash. i limped home at 10-15 mph max! after about an hour i started it and it ran just fine "both times". the first time this happened i was in a parking lot with the transmission in park. it is now at my local chevrolet dealer for repair.

POWER TRAIN

i purchased this vehicle at a somewhat reliable local dealership only to have the vehicle in and out of the shop a total of 6 months for the first year and a half of my ownership. the problem with the vehicle has been, and still is, the transmission and it's ability to slip in and out of gear at random. at intersections, stops and starts, as well as in movement the transmission will disengage and slam into gear with a loud clunking noise and jerking action. on an incline, it will actually roll backwards thus forcing the need to constantly cover the brake for this concern. the service manager at the dealership says he has done all he can do and gm insist that this is normal for the transmission to work this way. they even issued a copy of a memo to the dealership about this. they have assured me that if anything were to happen with the transmission it would be covered. forget about creating an accident, or my wife or myself getting killed! i figure this a very unsafe vehicle and will probably have to get rid of it before it gets rid of me or somebody else unless gm fixes it and makes it right. economically i'm not in a good position to just get rid of it because i owe so much on it but even if i did an unsafe vehicle is put back into circulation for somebody else to deal with. on another note, the service manager's shared with that his father bought a 2013 chevrolet truck with the same problem and had the transmission slam into gear the same way mine did while he was pulling away from a toll booth while towing a boat back from connecticut. consequently, this appears to be a problem spanning additional years as well. clearly a defective design in drive train. please consider investigating this issue and make gm responsible for addressing this issue other than issuing a memo and turning their heads the other way. there might be many lives save by taking action now.

STEERING

i had steering wheel turned all the way to the left, to pull into a parking lot, and attempted to turn wheel back all the way to the right to enter a parking space. when i attempted to turn back to the right, the engine rpm dropped and power steering failed. i was able to force the steering wheel through the turn to avoid hitting parked car, and power steering returned to normal after engine recovered. i have also had similar problem when attempting parking lot maneuvers and backing up trailers. took to dealer where they showed me a print out that stated the problem exists, but is not recognized as a problem because power steering returns to "normal" when vehicle returns to normal driving conditions.

on march 30, 2014, i noticed the right front parking light of my 2010 chevrolet silverado 1500 was illuminated and all the other lights were off. i tried several different things to get the light to turn off and was unsuccessful, so i disconnected the battery until i could have the issue diagnosed. the mechanic identified the problem as a portion of the terminals in the electrical junction block (fuse/relay panel), located in the engine compartment had significant corrosion which caused a short circuit situation. he also noted that there was no corrosion under the junction block where all the wiring harness plug into. he was perplexed because there was no signs of water or chemical damage to the junction block and also the age of the truck and low mileage. he further stated even with the ignition switch turned off, the panel was very hot due of the electrical resistance caused by the corrosion which caused a situation for a fire. he added that a local chevrolet dealership had a report of a 2009 chevrolet silverado 1500 that had a engine compartment fire due to a faulty electrical junction block. after conducting search of the internet, this seems to be a problem in 2009-2012 chevrolet silverado's. i am concerned that someone is going to park there truck in there garage and a fire will ensue that will cause injury of death.

driving approx 55mph down a highway when vehicle suddenly slowed to 30 mph and several messages came to dash (engine power reduced, traction control off and service stabilitrack). due to sudden drop in speed, i was involved in a near miss accident from a following vehicle i took the vehicle to be serviced at the chevrolet dealership and they replaced the throttle body sensor. due to a previously identified deficiency with the throttle body (identified by chevy) there was no charge for replacement after picking the vehicle up from the dealership and driving the vehicle 5 miles, the vehicle suddenly slowed and the messages reappeared. the vehicle was taken into the dealership and the pedal accelerator sensor was replaced. the mechanic explained to that the throttle body sensor was identified to be a problem by chevy. he also explained that the throttle body sensor and the accelerator pedal sensor work in conjunction and that he frequently sees the accelerator pedal sensor failing to operate as intended, resulting in replacements. however, he explained that chevrolet has not identified the accelerator pedal sensor as a defected part and no recall currently exists even though it is an integral part of the function of the throttle body sensor. i conducted research in general motors forums, etc. and this seems to be a common problem among chevy vehicles. some individual were traveling at greater speeds with children in vehicles when the vehicle came to an abrupt reduction in speed causing accidents. problem is that the throttle body sensor is often replaced and the problem will go away for a while, thenwill reoccur due to the failure of the accelerator pedal sensor and the interaction between the two parts the accelerator pedal sensor shall be recalled because of its importance to the function of the throttle body sensor and the history

my wife noticed a noise while riding with me and i determined that it was the air conditioners compressor motor. within a few days the motor failed. it is out of warranty and they want $1000.00 to fix it at the dealership. i priced an independent shop and it was over $800. this should not fail at 55,000 miles as over 3/4 of those were driven when no air conditioner was used. it's sad that you pay $40k+ for a vehicle and the main systems fail before the loan is even paid off. i guess it's back to rolling down the windows as $1000 to fix it is not within my budget.
